UCG Attempts To Go Mainstream

UCG has been featured in an interview on Grace TV and is also airing their TV program "Beyond Tomorrow" on it. Darris McNeely and Steve Myers give a warm syrupy interview hiding the various facts of Armstrongism that places them outside normal Christan understanding. Is UCG waking up to the fact that their past did not work for them and they now are admitting they need to rethink their doctrines?  Or, is this just another slick way to get their legalistic based message out under the rader to hook in 10 or 20 new people?

I couldn't seem to get to it without going through all the other cheesy crap first, so I just gave up.

Steve, if the embedded player didnt work, you can view the interview through the website here:

You'll have to fastforward through more cheesy crap but if you drag the positioning button to about the halfway point in the video, that's where the interview starts.

It's pretty funny really, I particuarly love how they push their product as "free". Once they get ya hooked, it's anything but.

I was pretty hard ass on Beyond Today's Steve Myer a few years ago: http://lifeafterwcg.blogspot.com/2007/06/boy-this-guy-needs-theological-seminary.html. It is my hope that Myer and McNeely are for real and they are not using the guest on Grace TV as some kind of tool. We'll have to wait and see. I'm all for the UCG for a move to orthodoxy but not the way Joe Jr. did business.

MY COMMENT: That "free" shit used to work years ago, but today everyone sees it on all the advertisement gimmicks and are wise to the old shell game. It doesn't work too well anymore. Now, the con artists have to substitute, "If you buy one for $19.95, we'll GIVE you the second one for FREE! So, you get TWO for $19.95. What a deal!".

Yeah, right. They charge separate shipping and handling, which is where they make most of their money. A frequent user of EBay told me of companies that charge $.99 for their junky products with a money back guarantee, but multiple dollars for shipping and handling.

In the rare cases they have to honor their money back guarantee, they send a check for $.99 and are still in the black by a goodly amount.

What a couple of sleazes. Truly wolves in wool suits. They lie to you and take your money. Subtle though. It's like seeing a garbage dump for the first time after pretty newly fallen snow. Watch where you step.

Darris McNeely and Steve Myers spoke freely of financial responsibility and managing your finances responsibly. I didn't hear one word about tithing, let alone three tithes. They deliberately exercised deception, being all smarmy, looking every bit the ministers of the sweet Jesus Christ to bring Evangelism to the world. It looked and sounded good. It's too bad we don't have smellavision.

And as for prophecy. "If you put faces on prophecies and set dates" you're really in trouble. Sort of like "1975 in Prophecy". Nicely skirted around, you sleazes. Really slick.

It's not clear that when I go out to this new commercial enterprise at gracetelevision.net they will have any discomfort at all. I'm guessing that they are every bit as commercial as United looked to be on this webcast, so they won't lose any sleep over British Israelism hirelings of a dead false prophet at all, as long as that revenue stream keeps coming in from the UCG.

As for sincerity, just use the first three letters of the word and you'll get where these two yahoos are coming from. Sure, the current President wants to move in some of the same direction that Tkatch did, but what to do, what to do? It must be done carefully so his salary and retirement won't be harmed as he (personally) tries to become another incarnation of GCI.

All in all, it was a thorough but pretty waste of time on the hypocritical Pharisaical Old Testament Christian hirelings attempting to transform themselves into angels of light as any good representitives of the father of this world should do.

I just hope that 0 people will show up at United as a result of anything they do (not that CoGWA is any better, mind you).

What a staged performance, what a stacked deck, being careful not to ask or answer any tough questions, like: "Who is the beast, the woman riding the beast, what exactly is the mark of the beast, what day do you guys keep the rest day, what is your true origin, do you guys command people to tithe(at least two tithes) or is everything free with no follow up(I heard McNeely say that) and how do you pay for your suits and your new cars,I guess you learned how to manage your finaces "god's way", what do you mean "god's work", "god's church", "god's ordained ministry", what about the OLD Testament holydays, what do you mean that the gospel is the kingdom of god, I thought the gospel was Jesus. That's what my bible says, what do you mean no dates or names in prophecy, haven't you guys been doing that for the last 50 years? Assholes!

Well, I've moved beyond raining on others' spiritual journeys, or questioning their sincerity. I can only share my own spiritual oddyssey, and what worked or didn't work.

I would hope that UCG and all of the other splinters will be correcting false teachings and error, but so many have this stuff deeply embedded. They will often allow small variations (or there would be no splinters), but most won't even consider major change to the so-called 18 restored truths.

Best we can do is pray for these folks, and just watch to see what develops.

MY COMMENT: That's too bad.

"Best we can do is pray for these folks, and just watch to see what develops."

MY COMMENT: Prayer doesn't help them, BB. I've been doing it since 1969.The only way they will finally change is when Jesus personally shows them what they are and that He never knew them. They are not just deceived, but they are deceivers. All I can say is...their money perish with them.

"Beyond Tomorrow"

This video stems from a desperation to be heard, if not by a court of law, then by a court of public opinion.

Two UCG whores. Why don't they mention that they are part of the Armstrong cult? They said they don't put faces and names to biblical characters?
I say Bullshit!

This is desperation. In this staged interview these people attempt to convert arid deserts into lush forests, the worst classes of larcenous oligarchs there are.

The only real difference between Armstrong-ism and a pigeon is that Armstrong-ism shits on you intentionally!

Armstrong-ism, a direct pipeline to your Treasury.

I watched that interview and the most glaring deficiency with Darris McWheelie and Steve Mliars is they avoided stating the doctrines of the UCG (Armstrongism) which are the very things they condemn most other religons on: the sabbath, tithing three tithes, and keeping the annual holy days. Cowards!

McWheelie did mention the name of Jesus at least once but I think I saw him clench his fist at the same time and I think I saw a tick develope in his upper lip. Oh, that body language will tell on you every time.

Just a slight omission in my view. They were posing as if the UCG was just another church in the majority, maybe a little heavy on prophecy, but teaching grace on Grace TV when in fact they shun grace and faith for salvation in lieu of law.

Hypocrites!

MY COMMENT: And what about the body language of Myers? His thigh was bouncing up and down. Impatience, or maybe nervousness, afraid he might be asked the wrong question to an exposing answer.

MY COMMENT - Yes, but isn't that the essence of Armstrongism, is it not?

Steve,

", afraid he might be asked the wrong question to an exposing answer."

Exactly, I wonder if McWheelie gave the moderator talking points ahead of time so they would not get ambushed?

Steve said...

I'm sure the whole thing was rehearsed. It was obvious. The host didn't ask any tough, or put-on-the-spot qustions."Now when you say 'free with no follow-up', what does that mean exactly, that you will NEVER ask your followers for money, or lie to them about tithing?"

Byker Bob said...

Herbert W should have named his church "The Advertising Church of God", because his outreach ministry really drew equally from the Bible, and subtle sales techniques.

This is yet another aspect which has been embedded not only in the original Armstrong group, but has also been inherited by the splinters. It's part of HWA's toxic business model.
