Online Dating In The Philadelphia Church of God

Leave it to the legalistic Philadelphia Church of God where the young adults are forced into such a ridiculous position.  Instead of being able to date friends in other COG's or even school/college friends, these young adults are restricted to the miniscule field of Armstrongite worshipers who look at Gerald Flurry as one step below Jesus.  As they worship HWA so do they worship Gerald Flurry.

In my case, this relationship led to the point where, under the direction of our respective local ministers, we began dating each other exclusively. Two months ago we began marriage counseling. Our relationship to this point has been built almost entirely online, across an ocean!

Online dating requires time out of our busy schedules. But it’s not as much time as in-person dating may take! One benefit of online dating is that it allows you to come home from work, log onto your computer and dial up the individual you want to speak with. This definitely beats having to undertake a potentially hours-long drive to someone’s home—or, in my case, a flight across the Atlantic!

The Bible contains plenty of examples that demonstrate the need to sacrifice: Abraham sacrificed Isaac; Ruth gave up her entire way of life to follow God through Naomi; Hannah gave her firstborn son to a life that would not be his own; and many more.

Sacrificing a small portion of my time each day to serve my friend has helped me to be less selfish.

Another example is dancing. Believe it or not, dancing is not just about two coming together and spinning each other round and round. There are many types of dancing, just as there are many types of music, with individual preferences. One may like dancing more than the other. But if one of you likes it a lot, make it a part of your life—step out and give that individual time to show you what they can do.

A plethora of enjoyable online dating options exist. Here are just a few to consider:
  • Wine and cheese tasting
  • Online shopping (link sharing)
  • Have a fashion show with the items you purchase from online shopping!
  • Share in exercise routines and goals
  • Share in dietary preferences, nutritional information
  • Have a movie night
  • Go to the park (virtual)
  • Go on a walk through your town (also virtual)
  • Share articles from the pcg and Trumpet websites
  • Have Bible studies based on these articles
  • Show one another how you garden
  • Perform such tasks as showing each other how to do plumbing, electrics, painting, etc. (I did this recently when my friend was decorating her living room)
  • You might be able to even show your date what you do for a living, bring them to work, or show them what you do through video conferencing!

Oh give me a f***ing break! One more reason why I am glad I am free from all this Armstrongite bullshit. Did any of you read the comments at the bottom of that article? Talk about a bunch of brain dead cultists!

These really aren't dating ideas or principles so much as they are coping, compensating, and compartmentalizing methods. And that's basically what you must do to retain sanity living as a member of a cult.

Why would anyone in Flurry's cult even be pursuing marriage relationships in the first place? GF has already forbidden his followers to have children, and stated that they will be disfellowshipped in the case of accidents.

Believe me those PCG singles ARE NOT obeying their Master Flurry. They all sneak around and do what they want when no one's looking. I know, I was there and I saw. I know of one such individual who has them all fooled. OR probably not. I'm sure Brian Davis knows because he is as sneaky as him...PLUS he helps with Brian's paycheck...he owns his own business.
When the Worldwide split after HWA died...most people who were forced into marrying in the church, couldn't wait to get divorced, and a lot did. They arrange marriages between young people that grow up in >"the church". They counsel them and of course they know all the right answers the minister wants to hear. Most do not have a clue, or the wisdom or the life experience outside >"the church". You can't FORCE things on people. Even God knows that!!

How tragic! It is a truly wicked thing that the cultic leaders of PCG refuse their followers to marry or even date non-PCG members. This causes all kinds of perfectly avoidable problems for PCG members.

Yea, why would they be pursuing marriage relationships in the first place?
Everything with them is one big fat discouragement. Makes you want to become an Atheist and a Priest!

And woe unto them that are with child, and to them that give suck in those days! Matthew 24:19

This scripture is what it's all about.

But I heard Flurry give the spiritual interpretation. So which one is it?

And I would like to know what form of birth control GF suggests. Is it the rhythm method or doctor prescribed birth control. Surely not doctor prescribed, because they don't believe in going to doctors. So people are going to have to make some serious choices here because the rhythm method doesn't always work. So you either get married and hope you don't get pregnant because you get kicked out for that. Or you don't get married in fear someone may get pregnant because you'll get kicked out. Or your running around lusting and that's a sin. You can't win for losing!I wonder if GF has had all pure thoughts and actions all these years after his wife's death...I doubt it seriously!

I thought no one was under 55, so they wouldn't have to worry about getting pregnant anyway......oh was that another group?
Better not to have kids than raise them in a weird cult.

I am not in any way a PCG supporter - I despise most things about the sect. But comparing the comments at the bottom of their article with those here I know whose company I would prefer.
Their comments are devoid of foul language and are in the main edifying and positive. If you were asked to compare the two groups of comments. Which would you honestly say showed more evidence of fruits of the Holy Spirit.

Share PCG literature or Trumpet articles !!!!! :-)

HAaaaa, that takes the cake.
I was trying just now to imagine anything more romantic than that, and well, sorry i couldn't :-)

Oh, wait maybe "Have Bible studies based on these articles".
What exciting date suggestions.

If there's a reason these people are still single, I would argue that it is because they are a bunch of 3s. If you are attractive on any level, you have never resorted to online dating.

Could be wrong :-) but somehow i don't think this website cares one way or the other about "evidence of the fruits of the Holy Spirit".

In fact, many here including myself don't even give the time of day to the wild idea that some magical Force (or Holy Spirit if you want to call it such) even exists.

What's the big deal?

The PCG recommends dropping off your disabled child in a shopping mall because "someone" will take care of it.

So if you have an accident, just take the baby and leave it a shopping mall and someone will take care of it.

The marriage bed honorable and undefiled?

Not when a cult gets finished with it.

I love these people who post anonymous and say they are not a part of the group when by posting that, usually means they are. To them I say...

What PCGer's post are screened for one. Two,they aren't about to say anything to get themselves kicked out. They LIE and PLAY THE GAME!! I know how it works. I was there. One word describes most in that group...HYPOCRITES! Even the man thy worship was having sex with his daughter for more then ten years!! He divorced his YOUNG second wife because she found out about his perversion. But HWA had to blame his divorce on Ramona,(his second wife)Yea,blame the woman. It's all a big turn off. And guess what? The Holy Spirit will lead you to the truth!! So, who doesn't have the Holy Spirit working with them??

Is the bedroom off-limits? What about videos of getting dressed or undressed, isn't that what normal people do online? or is that a sin? we need some guidance here.

My online boyfriend wanted me to wear something weird next time I talk to him? Is that ok?
He also asked me to change my hair style and put on red lipstick? Can I wear makeup online?
I was thinking of asking him to dress up like a minister, is that ok?

pcg ministers interfere with dating relationships and try to control who you can and cannot marry

they try to play match-maker or match-breaker

they do this for their own agenda, what they think would be good for the pcg; what's good for the members is of much lesser concern

I am not talking about inter-racial dating here; I'm talking about interference without any biblical rational or even any precedent in the old WCG which they deceitfully claim to follow.

pcg dating was so controlling and the women so slavishly pro-ministry that I vowed never to marry in the pcg

It was better to remain single.
