The FALSE Jesus in the unfunny cartoon said...

“I abolished outdated, oppressive laws thousands of years old and liberated people from them. Why aren't you doing the same thing.”

ANSWER: Because the REAL Jesus in the Bible said...

“Do not think that I have come to abolish the Law or the Prophets; I have not come to abolish them but to fulfill them. I tell you the truth, until heaven and earth disappear, not the smallest letter, not the least stroke of a pen, will by any means disappear from the Law until everything is accomplished. Anyone who breaks one of the least of these commandments and teaches others to do the same will be called least in the kingdom of heaven, but whoever practices and teaches these commands will be called great in the kingdom of heaven. For I tell you that unless your righteousness surpasses that of the Pharisees and the teachers of the law, you will certainly not enter the kingdom of heaven” (Matthew 5:17-20, NIV).

Not really much here to comment on although I know you had something in mind.

Carrier on the Galatians/Matthew contradiction:
"Matthew is an anti-Pauline text. It is specifically written (redacting the pro-Paul Mark) to attack and denounce him and his views, by putting those denunciations retroactively into the mouth of Jesus. Mt. 5:19 is a perfect example of that (a clear and direct attack on Paul’s gospel)"

Sadly and of course, the REAL PAUL came to undo the GOSPELS version of the REAL JESUS. ACTUALLY the gospels came along to undo Paul as did the book of James rebuttal of Paul's views in Romans:)

Wrong, 7:21. Paul's work and his vision involved demonstrating that Jesus' gospel and teachings were world class and cosmopolitan, and did not need to be practiced soley in a Jewish setting. They would work in a gentile cultural setting just as well, with the Noachide principles understood by the Jews for centuries applying to gentile converts, per James' further validation following the Jerusalem Council. This was also anticipated by Peter's vision of the unclean things.

That is difficult for anyone to understand if they have studied and accepted Armstrongism, because HWA did not recognize the differences between the church unto the Jews, and the churches unto the Gentiles. He taught that there was one Christian Church based on the Jewish culture of the second temple era, and that gentiles were required to become virtual Jews before they could qualify for Christian status. If one believes that, the entire New Testament appears disjointed, confused, and incapable of being understood. In fact, you and occasional others appear to be still suffering from some of that confusion.

8:20 "Paul's work and his vision involved demonstrating that Jesus' gospel and teachings were world class"
What Jesus gospel? "Matthew", which contradicts Galatians, wasn't cooked up until until 30 years later!

Maybe, and maybe not, Minimalist. Much of what we think we know is based on theory, deductions, and textual criticism. Acts, which was written after Luke, does not mention two very profound events: The fall of Jerusalem in 70 A.D., or Nero's persecution in A.D. 64. These were both huge, and did affect both Jewish and Gentile Christians. That would seem to narrow your 30 year gap to 10 or less.

We also have the so-called Q-source gospel to consider. If Matthew, Mark, and Luke, or whoever wrote the gospels with their names on them, were quoting from Q, then all bets are off.

It would be nice if we could definitively and assuredly make statements such as yours and become agnostics and atheists so that we didn't need to worry about anything, but there are any number of nagging counter-point facts and theories which are always coming up to create reasonable doubt.

Dating Galatians in the 50s & Matthew in the 80s is MAJORITY SCHOLARSHIP. You need to drop your little Armstrongist conspiracy booklets and start reading the scholars.

"Q-source gospel"?
Please explain this.

the law is oppressive only to those that desire to do things their own way....to those of us who wish to live lives that please God, there is nothing oppressive about His law.

Not my fault Paul was antinomian, deal with the conflicts in the Bible.

Anon 8:49, atheists and agnostics don't need to worry about anything? I'm confused.

I thought it was true believers who don't need to worry, because they put all their trust in God. They are told that everything works out for the best to those who love him. The are told they can show their love for him by cheerfully stifling their own desires about ways to spend their time and money and instead, to please him, spending long boring hours listening to sermons and writing bigger checks than they can afford to men who claim to be collecting money on behalf of their god. As anon 6:57 points out, there is nothing oppressive about that.

Atheists and agnostics are just putting on an act when they appear carefree, right? Whistling in the dark? Because there always lurks in the backs of their minds the nagging secret dread of the lake of fire.
