Crackpot COG Prophet Claims Football Is A Lust For The Flesh And Eyes

Well, here we go again. God's most highly blessed prophet/apostle/chief overseer and dream weaver to ever grace the presence of humankind is back again telling us that REAL Christians will NOT be watching the Super Bowl football game this weekend. Jesus will NOT be watching the game and neither should you!

The doubly blessed dreaming prophet Bobiniah Thiel writes:

Would Jesus want you to watch the Super Bowl? What about the Apostle Paul who warned against approving violence? The same Apostle Paul who said to imitate him as he imitated Christ (1 Corinthians 11:1). Would Jesus or the Apostle Paul watch the Superbowl as football fans rooting for one team to crush the other team?

God's end-time man to 299 Caucasians says:

The New Testament also warns Christians against being violent or approving of those that are (Romans 1:28-32), while history records that early Christians would not watch violent sports. Notice one such report from Theophilus of Antioch perhaps written about 180 A.D.:

Consider, therefore, whether those who teach such things can possibly live indifferently, and be commingled in unlawful intercourse, or, most impious of all, eat human flesh, especially when we are forbidden so much as to witness shows of gladiators, lest we become partakers and abettors of murders. But neither may we see the other spectacles, lest our eyes and ears be defiled, participating in the utterances there sung. (Theophilus of Antioch. To Autolycus, Book III, Chapter XV. Translated by Marcus Dods, A.M. Excerpted from Ante-Nicene Fathers, Volume 2. Edited by Alexander Roberts & James Donaldson. American Edition, 1885. Online Edition)

Bobiniah continues:

Since American football games, like the Super Bowl, intentionally inflict various hurts, the following scripture supports the idea that American football will not be allowed in the Millennium:

9 They shall not hurt nor destroy in all My holy mountain, For the earth shall be full of the knowledge of the Lord As the waters cover the sea. (Isaiah 11:9, NKJV)

While “love does no harm to a neighbor” (Romans 13:9), what do sports like American football do?

The so-called doubly blessed prophet declares:

If Jesus Himself did watch the Super Bowl, would He watch it and hope that one team would tackle and crash into members of the other team? Or might He watch it, if He did, so He could make social commentary against the violence and/or distorted priorities of the land?

Would Jesus take pleasure in humans damaging other humans for entertainment?

Since most people in the USA have, at one time or another, made some hint of professing following Jesus, a relevant question may also be:

Would Jesus want you to watch the Super Bowl?

Jesus, of course, taught “You shall love your neighbor as yourself” (Matthew 22:39), while the Apostle Paul wrote “no one ever hated his own flesh, but nourishes and cherishes it” (Ephesians 5:29).

The Bible teaches:

15 Do not love the world or the things in the world. If anyone loves the world, the love of the Father is not in him. 16 For all that is in the world — the lust of the flesh, the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life — is not of the Father but is of the world. 17 And the world is passing away, and the lust of it; but he who does the will of God abides forever. (1 John 2:15-17)

Tackle football is a lust of the flesh and eyes. Those who claim to be Christian and endorse it are letting the pride of life deceive them.

It really frosts Bobiniah's homeopathic knickers that a lot of COG members will be watching the Super Bowl Game. How dare they!

How many who are in the COGs love the worldly sport of American tackle football and really do not care that it causes irreparable harm to its participants? Is not another reason that some watch it because of their lust for violence and/or for social acceptance?

Bobiniah says he will NOT be watching the game but assures us that there will be very high incidences of injury. He is a prophet, after all, he sees things.

Since I do not actually watch American football, I do not know how many violent acts are likely at this year’s Super Bowl, but the number is likely to be very high, and maybe even a lot more if thoughts of violence are included (cf. Matthew 5:21-22).

The Bobiniah goes on to declare that even touch football may be evil! The horrors! Even worse the Bobiniah can't watch football games because he would be filled with lust for the cheerleaders!

In my view, the tackle version of the sport of American football is evil (touch football I would not consider to be inherently evil–though attitude is still a possible factor there). Also, no Christian can really defend how professional football cheerleading females are publicly dressed and displayed–and presumably some of how they will be displayed at the Super Bowl game.

Would Jesus want you to watch the Superbowl? What about the Apostle Paul who warned against approving violence? The same Apostle Paul who said to imitate him as he imitated Christ (1 Corinthians 11:1). Would Jesus or the Apostle Paul watch the Superbowl as football fans rooting for one team to crush the other team?

“Perhaps,” some might answer. And still others may ridicule and/or dismiss what I have written.

However, if Jesus Himself did watch the Superbowl, would He watch it and hope that one team would tackle and crash into members of the other team? Or might He watch it, if He did, so He could make social commentary against the violence and/or distorted priorities of the land?

It's always fascinating to see COG false prophets whine and bellyache about all kinds of perceived evils in the world, but never lift a hand to feed the hungry, house the homeless, and care for the sick.   Their empty platitudes about some wonderful kingdom to come to the frozen chosen is empty and shallow.

Read the book of Revelation. Christ is going to take pleasure in damaging plenty of humans. Even rugby is pansy stuff compared to what Christ will inflict on humans when the time comes.

Rumor has it that God lost interest in the Super Bowl once the SAINTS were eliminated from contention!

Question For Bob Thiel--

Would Jesus want you to listen or watch a FALSE PROPHET?

From Wikipedia:
'The average life expectancy or lifespan of an American football NFL player has been reported to be extremely low, only 53 to 59 years depending on playing position.'

Playing this game is self murder. Heavy muscled men slamming into one another is destroying ones God given body. This game will not be played in the millennium, and God would not watch such a destructive game. It's not just that the short life span (Vs 80 years for the average person), but all sorts of crippling injuries as well.
This has nothing to do with any religious leader, but rather about simple self preservation.

True religion is taking care of those in need (James 1:27). How much of the WCG resources go for such care? True religion? I think not.

If one were to pick certain social evils to crusade against, professional football would certainly rank as one of the minor ones in terms of the damage that it inflicts on humanity. People train rigorously for the sport, knowing full well that injury is possible, and accepting that in their risk-benefit analyses before becoming involved. Participants in the NFL are compensated financially on a level much higher than nearly every other profession. Generally speaking, the football contest is akin to a miniaturized wargame, not unlike techniques and attitudes learned in the military, an organization which is and has been necessary for the preservation of freedom of all civilized nations, so that the greater good can prevail.

Obviously, many physical things which are taking place in the human world would have no counterpart in a spiritual world. That does not mean that they are blanketly wrong. Thiel is once again majoring in the minors by delving into an area which would have very limited impact on the quality of society as a whole if his pronouncements were implimented. Attacking football might make for a great opportunity for strong, controversial comment in a Spokesman's Club setting, but is of little value in the real day to day world. Football is considered to be a bonding activity, helping unite family or friends for a couple hours during which animosities are temporarily suspended, and problems are forgotten. It is one of those nice valves, or decompression activities that make the world more tolerable. And, honestly, I recognize that in spite of the fact that I don't even watch it. I'm a motorsports guy.

Don't recall any Jesus or Paul fussing about local gladiators or games. Maybe it wasn't safe to bring it to the attention of the Romans...

My bible says to "watch (the superbowl) and pray (that Newton looses) lest I be not worthy (to discuss the game on Monday morning)"

On a positive biking note.
Did you read the article about the "sinful" biker girl.

http://edition.cnn.com/2016/02/02/travel/zenith-irfan-pakistan-motorcycle-girl/index.html

Think about the implications for society.

What courage as compared to the 6:16 guy on the gay thread who feels persecuted only because he feels something and does not no how to relate those beliefs in a civilized manner to his peers. Indeed that person needs help or travel out of state for once.........The 6:16 guy cites the inquisition, while the overall purpose of the inquisition was exactly just that to save the "real christians" from the protestant abominations. A matter of perspective.

I pray 6:16 gets some perspective, without necessarily changing beliefs that are important to him. I hope this article is an introduction to the impact of "long held beliefs on society" but moreover I pray this girl gets to continue her journey in save manner.

In a world of those who follow Jesus, football is out, it's not something Christ would watch or play now or during the millennium, at least that's the way I see it right now. BUT, In a world of those who don't follow Christ, or do but maybe just still think its okay, football is great, people love it, those who play it love it regardless of the hurt and pain they suffer, and for those who don't play it, a couple of six packs, chips, tacos etc, a couple of friends over and the weekend is set, great time.

If we have doubt then don't watch it, if we think it's okay to watch and no doubt, then I hope you don't get too upset if your team loses.

Why would the God of the bible have any problem with American football? Didn't he drown just about everyone in a flood, tell the Isrealite armies to kill every last person in the nations he told them to invade and strike people dead who didn't do precisely what he told them. This God would have a problem with American football?
Really?!!

A friend of mine, a retired Methodist pastor, follows a liturgical calendar. Certain subjects are preached on during the year. It is very predictable. So it is with the C of G. Easter, Halloween, Super Bowl, etc. you can look forward to the same old articles. Perhaps if they read anything theological outside of their own writings, they might, just might come up with something new. We are to grow in "grace and knowledge." How have these folks done this over the years? When I traveled to Belarus, it was like stepping back in time to the former Soviet Union. The KGB is still bugging rooms, computers and phones. They still follow you around in the capital of Minsk. Political opponents are still kidnapped, beaten and taken to a mental hospital with the diagnosis of "Sluggish Schizophrenia" characterized by "reformist ideas and inability to conform." "The Churches of God, the Belarus of churches?" could be their new slogan. Their Alexander Lukashenko is either Meredith, Flurry or Pack." "Join the church and step back in time."

I bet the Boobinator would change his tune if Tim Tebow was playing in the Super Bowl after joining Boob's church and paying tithes to the Boob, on the gross of his NFL salary.

In such an event, Booby Thiel would muck things up, though, by proclaiming that every Tebow-related touchdown should be awarded double points, and that the goalposts' "upright members" should be crooked enough to help score extra points for Tebow's team's crooked kicks.
(Also he'd claim the Goodyear blimp is actually a UFO.)

Plus, Mr. Thiel would run a half-time Super Bowl commercial, revealing "Thiel's Real Congealed Matzo and Veal Snack Treats" featuring Tim Tebow kneeling in the end zone eating one and saying, "MMMMM... SO SO GOOD! YHVH's NOSTRILS WOULD BE DOUBLY PLEASED!"

Ha! The last thing COG ministers want is "new truth" or, for that matter, any other "new" idea. Every year, the same old articles and sermons are dusted off, rehashed, and then filed away for next year. Armstrongism is merely a seemingly large, but nonetheless impoverished set of platitudes, chestuts, shibboleths and catchphrases, combined with the idea that the memorization of this set means that after you die, if you throw yourself upon the mercy of the court, a capricious Heavenly Emperor will probably give you the "thumbs up" instead of the "thumbs down," even though you definitely don't deserve it.

8.48AM. The same holds true for all 'Christian' churches. Watching the Tele evangelists, it's always meaningless religious mumbo jumbo. They teach nothing relevant to practical everyday living. They all know that there are excellent books out there magnifying Gods laws, but they don't teach from them, and hide their very existence. With all their researchers and ghost writers, they can easily tap into these books, but they choose not to. This conspiracy of silence includes all the COGs. It's common knowledge that the GODs ministers read such books, but they don't share the information acquired with their congregations. They are generously paid for the amount of work that they do, are treated like royalty in their churches, yet they deliberately keep knowledge from people. This narrowing of knowledge and ideas is a totalitarian trait. May God give these traitors their just due.

8:48 here. Yes, the same does hold true for ALL christian churches. It IS always meaningless mumbo jumbo. None of them teach anything practical or relevant. It's also true that there are excellent books out there—but the excellent ones don't magnify any laws. They show how christianity is a syncretic blending of Hellenism, Judaism, the Babylonian mysteries, the Egyptian mysteries, and Zoroastrianism, how at least half of the books of the NT are most likely outright forgeries, the ones that aren't were not written by a single author, but were cobbled together from various sources and heavily redacted, why we should have no confidence in the canonization process that happened hundreds of years later, and why the OT fares no better under critical scrutiny.

Pastors who are well-trained, having gotten a doctorate of divinity from seminary school know the fraudulent origins and epistemic problems that virtually ensure christianity, and Judaism too, are false religions, and yet, because they know their congregations will not be comforted by the evidence, there exists, as you put it, a "conspiracy of silence" not to share pertinent facts with their customers, erm, I mean, parishioners, because that's not what most of them are in the market, erm, I mean, the church for. If they say what they know, they soon won't have a paycheck.

Unfortunately, the facts suggest that no god will give these traitors their just due.

My question is, if the Judeo-Christian god is so real and so true, why does he behave just like every other god? Why does he need people to write his books, preach his words, perform his good works, etc.? We know the reason why people would have to do all these things on behalf of a false god, but if there is a true god, why does he choose to not distinguish himself from the riff-raff? Given that no god does, why should we expect that any god can? Especially when he's supposedly delivering an ultimatum, pairing clinging to that expectation without a reason with divine reward, and departing from it with a rather horrific punishment. Yaknow, not so as to twist anybody's arm or anything...

6:25 PM Your "But the excellent ones don't magnify any law" is exactly my complaint. This is the conspiracy of silence I'm referring to. A good example of a good book is "Honoring the self' by Nathaniel Branden. I've mentioned it before. This magnifies self love (hated in the churches since it diminishes ministry power) and hence loving others. There are many good books on assertiveness, which is respecting others and your own property and rights (as in don't steal). These are the sort of books that power hungry ministers and their minions don't want the sheeple to be aware of.

Anonymous said...

9:59 PM Only a legalist thinks an "excellent book" is one that magnifies law. Good examples of excellent books are The Bible Unearthed by Israel Finkelstein and Neil Silberman, or Forged! by Bart Ehrman. These are the sort of books that priests and ministers don't want the sheeple to be aware of, and that the sheeple themselves don't even want to be aware of because they prefer comforting fables over facts.

JoeE, Talking of distortion, no one here thinks the ministers should not be paid or live in poverty. The complaint is that they live in McMansions whilst they ask members to hand over all their worldly goods to their church. Further, Armstrongs 'give way' that saturated his churches publications, is not just a distortion, but a monster lie. Gods way is the way of trade, which is still foreign in the splinters. My bible tells me that 'unbalanced scales are an abomination.' An abomination is what was taught. You are so typical of the ministers. No one should read any other sources other than the 'correct' church literature. Otherwise people might be mislead. No trust in freedom, no trust in adulthood, just treat people like 10 year olds. God gave you your hour in the sun to create your heaven on earth. It's called the Dark Ages. Only the priests had bibles, and told people what to believe. Did it work? Well, it's called the Dark Age for a reason. And why can you pick up the 'distortions' here, but you don't believe others can? Are you a god with everyone else here being an idiot? And please refer me to your 'distortion-less' alternative, because I have yet to find one.
You need to look at the log in your eye and the eyes of your churches.

Cheers. TradingGuy

Yes? No?

I see that on Booby Thiel's kooky website, it states, "We accept tithes, offerings, and other financial donations."

He accepts checks, cash, money orders, Western Union, bank transfers, VISA, MasterCard, Discover, PayPal, and more!

There's a handy-dandy "Donate" button there, too, to expedite parting a fool from his money.
Awwww.... isn't that special?
