"Therefore, in the present case I advise you: Leave these men alone! Let them go! For if their purpose or activity is of human origin, it will fail."
Gamaliel in Acts 5

Id love to see an episode of the History Channel's "American Pickers" which is a television show that follows antique and collectible pickers Mike Wolfe and Frank Fritz, who travel around the United States to buy or "pick" various items for resale, for clients, or for their own personal collections.

I can see a "spin off series" that will pick the future cult HQs in collapse. This would be the opening scene narrative...

Mike Wolfe: I'm Mike Wolfe.

Frank Fritz: And I'm Frank Fritz.

Mike Wolfe: And we're pickers.

Frank Fritz: We travel the back roads of Armstrongism looking for rusty gold. We're looking for amazing things buried in garages, barns , buildings and more at defunct Cult Headquarters.

Mike Wolfe: What most people see as junk or bad memories, we see as dollar signs.

Frank Fritz: We'll buy anything we think we can make a buck on.

Mike Wolfe: Each item we pick has a history all its own. And the cult members we meet? Well, they're a breed all their own too. We make a living telling the history of Cults... one wasted tithe dollar at a time.

i, for one, am glad to see the destruction of these vain symbols of wasted tithes: goes to show you that despite the rhetoric, human beings are more about the physical than the spiritual, and generation after generation, from the temple in jerusalem to the modern day fruits of human vanity, these physical entities must ultimately be proven to be mere ruins, just like the carnal minds that built these corrupt symbols on the backs of the poor...

what lasts forever is the feeding of the flock, not the building of vain monuments...

2.13 PM your 'it will fail' interpretation is debateable. The churches mission was to witness to the world. Some would argue that the church succeeded in this regard. The former generation was told to repent or face the consequences.

These are buildings erected by organizations that are devised by humans. No church is "of God". Buildings are put up by the leaders to perpetuate organizations that control and manipulate human beings. You can have a deep relationship with God (if he exists) with-out belonging to or attending any church. Be free from the dictates of men!

Seeing that building I think of several people who occupied it while I was there, including HWA, GTA, Al Portune, Wayne Cole, Ron Dart, David Antion, Frank Brown, Brian Knowles, Robert Kuhn, Herman Hoeh, Richard Plache and dozens of others. Wish the building could have been aired out and have all the old vibes blow away, but razing it is probably better in the long run.

I was more saddened to see the old buildings go, the ones that were demolished to build the H.O.A. There was the old Letter Answering Department, a nice old Art Deco gas station that used to be the Transportation Dept., some garages, a field of ivy, and a quaint old gardening shed. A street that was later closed and the asphalt and sidewalks removed separated that portion from the grounds for the Student Center.

Ah yes, the gardening shed. One legendary Saturday night, some friends of mine who had left college the previous year came to visit. We went out on the town partying, and basically they were in no condition to drive home. I couldn't put them up in my dorm, because they weren't allowed on campus, so I showed them the gardening shed, which was a changing room with showers, towels, and fresh uniforms. There was space for them to crash overnight, and I told them to be sure to be out of there early because students would be coming to work at about 8:00 AM Sunday.

Oh, did I forget to mention that I would be one of those student gardeners? When I got there, I quickly realized that they they had had more to drink, and had not cleaned up their cigarette butts and empty beer cans. They had found a magic marker, and had written "Zorro" in a number of places. I almost needed to change my pants when I saw this. This being Ambassador College, some of the student gardeners assumed according to their programming that demon-possessed homeless people had crashed there overnight. My boss was not in the church, and had a certain amount of street smarts, so realized from my facial expressions and body language that I knew more than I had let on. He just told me to clean it all up, and nothing more was said. However, several months later, my friends visited again. They later told me that they were there to put what they called "washin' powders" in the pool and fountain surrounding the David Wynne sculpture of the egrets. They wanted to wash away the artificial aging, and make the egrets as shiny as a new copper penny. When cornered by security in the Student Center parking lot, they went all "Dukes of Hazzard" in their 396 SS Nova, jumping the curb, and burning rubber across the lawn! Once again, my boss had me clean up after them, filling in the deep ruts, but never letting on that it was my friends who were the perps. By this time, I was pissed at them, and asked them not to come back to visit any more. As for my not-in-the-church boss, he would occasionally bring some Jack Daniels Whiskey for the crew. We liked him, and worked hard for him. He somehow appealed to the rebel in some of us, and was kind of a breath of fresh air to counterbalance most of the other people on campus.

Ambassador College was fun! Just a little bit different from the official stuff you might have read in the Plain Truth, the Envoy, and the College Catalogue.
