The Role of Women Writers in the the UCG

For decades women in the Church of God have been relegated to the back burner.  It was not until all the changes hit the church that women really got a voice.  Huge debates wrangled around in the Journal for several months over the roll of women in the church.  A surprisingly large number in the Church of God have no issue with it now, while others rebelled at the thought of women "teaching" men.

Now UCG needs to write up a policy and approve it for women to really have a voice.  It's 2016 not 1936 or 1966

Media and Communications Committee (MCC)—Rex SextonA MCC video conference was held on Feb. 11, 2016. Currently their responsibilities are to review the current Media Operation Plan and how it is being carried out. They also discussed flexibility in carrying out the Scopes and Responsibilities. The subject was discussed regarding the role of women authors in Church publications. There was a general discussion on the history of female UCG authors, and it was agreed that there exists no approved policy or guidelines on the subject. It was suggested that the Council consider an approved policy for Media and Communications Services, and there will be discussion on this topic in this week’s meetings.

Some how the CoG7D seems to have worked this out. Maybe UCG should take notice of an organization that actually seems to have had some success as opposed to how things are going for United.

This is part of why their outreach and proselytizing falls on deaf ears. The fact that they have to even raise this as an issue in question shows how out of touch they are with the times and culture in which we live. We no longer live in "Leave it to Beaver" times. Women have been a key part of the workforce for years, and it is not unusual for men to have female supervisors. Women are also very influential when it comes to a family choosing a church. If 50% of the people who pick up a magazine get the impression that the publishers believe they should be pregnant and barefoot, or wearing a burka, they will automatically reject that publication, and move on to one that they see as relevant.

Yes I remember 'leave it to Beaver,' and 'Father knows best.' But the Burks being worn by the churches today is religious/ideological. There are many excellent self help books, and many woman magazines that magnify Gods laws. They are not called as such, but all articles regarding human behaviour amount to this, since only Gods laws work. Many of these secular writings put church articles to shame. All you get from these churches is give, help serve blah, blah, blah. All useless when dealing with the office psycho or the crazy work boss or the mad stalker that follows you like a dog. But according to the church Burka, we live in heaven. All that's required is give,....

Now guys, hold on a second. I think the folks at UCG might have a point.

Women SHOULDN'T be writing for church publications.

(wait for it)

We should be debunking the crappy writing and shoddy research these old men have been pumping out for decades.

RE: The roll of women.

Women have a very important roll to play in society. They have their children to raise and teach. Imagine how wonderful the world would be if all women had done this important job properly.

Before any woman gets carried away wanting to teach the men in the church, she needs to make sure that she is raising her own children properly.

Imagine if the mothers of Gerald Flurry, David Pack, Ronald Weinland, Robert Thiel, and others who are currently such an unmitigated CURSE on the COG scene had taught them to behave properly, to respect other people and their property, and not to lie, steal, and destroy. Imagine if their mothers had taught them from their youth on up to fear and obey God rather than to lie and steal in His name. They might not have grown up to be the destabilizing force that they are as the WICKED FALSE PROPHETS who started SATANIC IMPOSTOR CULTS. Their mothers probably shirked their responsibility, not realising what a disastrous impact their failure to train up their children properly would have on so many thousands of other people who would have the great misfortune of coming into contact with the spoiled and perverted brats that they produced.

Their mothers ought to be ashamed of what their children have become and what they have done.

Psh, all that "parents didnt teach em" hooey assumes that children are blankeyed robots who grow up to be likewise blankeyed robots.
I cant figure out if its advocates just happen to be very dull blankeyed robots, or just people with no children or very young children who wouldnt know.

And the word is "role".

I don't thing women can effectively preach a male oriented religion.
Judaism is guilty of weeding out the godess.
The Armstrongist religion is particularly male oriented since, in my observation, most of its adherents had some kind of psychological problem with their father or his role in their family. Thus hwa came to fill that role of the strict "father" figure.

Uh, what about their fathers??? Did they have no role at all in producing sex-obsessed ego-maniacs like HWA, Rod Meredith, etc.? (And let's not forget GTA while we're at it!) Let's blame it all on the poor mothers, why don't we? I mean, fathers aren't supposed to be role models for their sons, are they now, not according to your world-view!

It was the woman you gave me, Lord, she made me (and my sons) do it! Still a lot of sickos who always blame others and never take responsibility for their own actions. That's the WCG's teaching--always the woman's fault!

I wholeheartedly agree. If we'd come from healthy families with fathers who filled their leadership roles lovingly & respectfully yet firmly, we wouldn't have gotten within a half-continent of the dictatorial HWA & the dysfunctional family-substitute he created, the WCG.

I remember we had the Women"s Club much like the Men"s Club where speeches were given....Well, the women in my area loved it and were learning to speak up, and voice their opinions...Don't you know that after a period of time had a letter or announcement no more Women's Club....Need to stay home and learn from the husband from the pen of hwa...As a dedicated, submissive wife I did that.....I learned, after many years, I had to leave the marriage and wcg for my own sanity..I learned to stand on my own 2 feet;Began slowly to heal from the emotional, spiritual abuse....And became, and am now, the woman God intended for me to be all along...I am so grateful.....

And the debate goes on and on. Nature versus nurture. Are we the way we are because of our genetics, our biology or because of the environment in which we were raised. I remember a leader at AC in Pasadena telling us that if you are a good parent you can raise one good child after another, much like an assembly line. He gave no credit to the role biology/genetics, etc. play in a person's life. How many of us grew up with siblings, raised the same way, ate the same food, etc. yet one is so much different from the others? One our of nine has a drinking problem. Why? Genetics? Genetic disposition? or is everything the way you were raised?

If evolution is still taking place, then it would be both.

I just read the transcripts from UCG's discussion on this subjects. I had crossed my fingers that maybe this discussion was a proactive step in the direction all the hardliner COGs claim UCG is going.

Nope. It appears this discussion was spurred because someone took issue with a specific article - one written by a woman that seemed too corrective - in a church publication. The concern, I assume, was that the woman could have been considered to be in authority over men by correcting them. It then turned to a discussion over whether it would be appropriate to have women write articles about doctrine, or simply Christian living topics, and how articles and their subjects were assigned.

I'd like to point out that UCG, COGWA and David Hulme's COG-AIC have had women writing for various publications for years. COGWA even has an article by a woman in its latest issue of Discern. Come on, UCG, you can't let COGWA show you up!

The scriptures are very clear about this. Women are NOT to teach or preach, period.
You can try to twist God's Scriptures all you want, but in the end you are allowing and teaching Heresy. Can you say Laodician? I pray for the quick return of Christ Jesus, to put an end to these false teachings.
