Dave Pack, The Cowardly Lion

Poor Dave Pack.

Dave is more concerned about his personal welfare than he is boldly proclaiming his gospel to the world.  Dave admits he will not go into certain neighborhoods.  The only neighborhood Dave is in anymore is his cult compound in Wadsworth, Ohio.  He has admitted he very seldom leaves the confines of his campus.  He has further isolated himself in the middle of the compound where he is surrounded by a few of his elite men.

Dave has never been a real he man when it comes to being a fearless minister who treasures the words of Jesus over hiding in some lily-white COG Steppford neighborhood.

Praying for the escape of brethren becomes so much more meaningful—and daily—with this new knowledge. Most of God’s people live in dangerous areas of the world, but when I say that, it’s a different world. Who is to say what is and is not dangerous, if you’re in a mall, on a train, or just walking out of a building and there’s a shooter. So I stay out of dangerous neighborhoods.
Some COG ministers over the decades went into the dangerous neighborhoods that impotent Dave avoids.  They valued their message and their God more than they did their lives, something that Dave is incapable of understanding.

 Poor old Dave.

The story of the good Samaritan was set in a dangerous neighborhood.

There is one thing I've known for years. If you are ever in trouble, don't expect a "citizen" to help you. They avoid eye contact, shake their heads, and walk the other way quickly. Now, you've got to be careful about this, but it's been my experience that rough people who know what it's like to be down and out often end up being the ones to help. That's the essence of the story of the good Samaritan. Samaritans were pariahs to the Jews, despised because of their mixed heritage stemming from the captivity.

Can you imagine watching Dave Pack as members of an outlaw motorcycle club changed a flat tire for him on the open highway? Or as a homeless guy returned his wallet after chasing the thief and retrieving it? He'd probably have a panic attack. What he may not realize is that even in his compound, one of his own members whom he pushes over the edge could retaliate. Nobody can elude karma forever.

Does he know what the word means? Or is a 21st Century Apostle a "stay at home" apostle?
He said he didn't want the job, I guess he still doesn't.

Well. He's right on who's to say what is and what is not dangerous.

-Northern Iraq christian territory (dangerous)
-Syria north of damascus (ancient aramaic speaking christians (terrible)

-I happen to like those COG folk moving into the Territories, (Oklahoma territory and the Dakota's) on the frontier with those pagan buffalo hunters and yes THE DALTONS around.
(and of course the dangers of auntie may smoking a pipe as condemned in the church minutes, or youngsters visiting the "skating rink" wink wink)

-Personally I am most at peace in some remote church on distant islands where ANY time a Viking raid, Slavic incursion or rebellious Anglo Saxon leader hearking back to the "olden days" could strike.

I guess all in all it is safer in that secluded white plastered sepulchre.

Oh my...great memories! Lol. From Chicago where I learned the Plain Truth about a white guy in a suit on Southside at Cabrini Green to Kentucky where redneck dogs put me back in the car as did a high power rifle in the hands of an angry person bound and determined I was not speaking to their mate about baptism, you warm my memories and heart. The only small victory I remember was having the door blocked so I could not leave by a really angry guy I mentioned we might not be comfortable with his scripture covered "the end is near robe" in church to. With fists raised he announced that he "knew karate". I mentioned I had just come from class and to date had made it all the way to Brown Belt, so please move aside. He stared , I stared...he moved. I left. I could hear him screaming at me inside the car. I do believe he was mentally ill.

Then there was the drop dead gorgeous stripper in Minneapolis inquiring about church but finally did mention she was a man awaiting surgery . I was 23 and sat for another hour asking her to please tell me her story and learned more in that one hour about the issue than ever from the Church of course. She never came to church but I thought that might have been cruel and confusing tot he single guys who would be torn between "he's a guy" and "She's gorgeous." She also was a very nice person.

Oh the visit stories I got....

SING ALONG TIME-- "SING WITH DAVE, THE COWARDLY LION "!

"If I Only Had Some Nerve" - From the Wizard Of Oz...

Yeh, it's sad, believe me, Missy
When you're born to be a sissy
Without the vim and verve

But I could change my habits
Never more be scared of rabbits
If I only had the nerve

I'm afraid there's no denying
I'm just an awful dandy-lion
A fate I don't deserve

But I could show my prowess
Be a lion, not a mouse
If I only had the nerve

This is what a real Apostle would do for the sake of preaching the Gospel:

Five times I received from the Jews the forty lashes minus one. 25 Three times I was beaten with rods, once I was pelted with stones, three times I was shipwrecked, I spent a night and a day in the open sea, 26 I have been constantly on the move. I have been in danger from rivers, in danger from bandits, in danger from my fellow Jews, in danger from Gentiles; in danger in the city, in danger in the country, in danger at sea; and in danger from false believers. 27 I have labored and toiled and have often gone without sleep; I have known hunger and thirst and have often gone without food; I have been cold and naked. Besides everything else, I face daily the pressure of my concern for all the churches. II Corinthians 11:24-28

Pack has never put himself on the line for the Gospel like Paul did. He often touts the immense persecution he faced by men in WCG and Global and how all of those experiences including supposedly pastoring tens of thousands has prepared him to be in the role that he is for the sake of the Truth. He suffered for staying true to Mr. Armstrong, only to change all the Truth and insert himself in major prophetic events and now he says he's a fire brand plucked out by God, and he regularly reminisces to the church about the "evil" men who made his life extremely impossible making the members believe it was some great ordeal and great trial.

GO THROUGH WHAT PAUL WENT THROUGH, AND HAVE CONCERN FOR THE CHURCHES LIKE PAUL DID.

In many ways, 639, Dave Pack and the Apostle Paul (and you know not to take this as a compliment to Dave from me) are two peas in a pod with their bragging while acting not to brag. ("I knew a man above 14 years ago..., ". "I more than they all,". "Above my fellows," "Called from the womb" and much more) to this list in in 11 Corinthians . Dave is no team player even as Paul makes it very clear he is not either in Galatians. Paul also puts the Jerusalem apostles down and claims he got his gospel from Jesus himself and no man. He calls Peter, James and John "reputed pillars" and then says, "I learned nothing from them." Very much like Dave in his "deeper understanding" and never before understood BS.

I find reading Dave and Paul's views of themselves, their ideas and claims about how intelligent they think they are and were to be similar in expression. No one seems to know just how Paul ended up an apostle or who ordained him, but we all can suspect he ordained himself when he looked at the apostles in Jerusalem and determined in his own mind he was just as good if not better. He claims to have spent three years in the desert doing only God knows what but came back an Apostle in his own mind. Kinda like Dave holed up in Wadsworth

Paul's Damascus road tale, written by Luke and not mentioned by Paul in Galatians where he says he was called in the womb is no different than Thiel having dreams to give himself a boost or Dave taking every title he can conjure up out of the OT because he just feels he is that.

Paul mentioned "ALL in Asia have turned aside from me." Aside from mentioning why, this tells me Paul exaggerates a lot , never wonders why people didn't like him or his message and hangs on to his ideas when "all" not just some don't agree . It speaks volumes about the man and his psychological make up. Persecution to many self appointed types is merely the fact that most don't agree with them and pay them no mind. That paying them no mind drives them nuts.

A widow, my mother married a man who very quickly became a local elder in NYC. They would have to visit many infirmed and house bound folks who would live in some VERY sketchy neighborhoods in the Bronx and Harlem. They would leave my brother, about 15, me then about 13 and my 5 year old sister in the car for over an hour for each visit. I was terrified, but thankful we were never approached by strangers. We grew up very street savvy in short order. Dave Pack is a wuss. Duh.

Southside Chicago sounds like South Central L.A. One of my customers' brick buildings was pock-marked by AK-47 rounds. I used to strut into the little neighborhood stores for soda or bottled water and try not to look like a victim waiting to happen. After the sun went down, the gangs and street people became active. One time, after working a little too late, a lady of the street offered anal intercourse for $5.00 (I politely declined). One time, a lady was so bold as to put her hand in my pocket! The scary thing is, you know that people are watching these ladies, so one false move could bring out their handlers, and they wouldn't be making an appearance to have a polite conversation. For the most part, people left me alone, but then, I wasn't in a suit and tie. When you have a job to do, you really can't refuse to go into certain neighborhoods. Unless, I guess, you are Dave Pack.

Dennis,
Contrary to what you say about Paul, I respect the man as do most Christians. If he was the charlatan you claim, God would not have inspired his writings to be part of the NT.

Oh, come on, 12:37. Those writings became a part of the New Testament hundreds of years later when they were canonised by a bunch of catholic prelates and their origins and authenticity is subject to no end of questioning. No god had a damn thing to do with it.

MY COMMENT - Oh, Dennis is going to have fun with this one, LOL!

This post reminds me of the WCG minister in Miami who was also a landlord in a rough neighborhood who was murdered attempting to collect rent owed. I don't remember his name, but Pack doesn't have the balls to do what his former WCG colleague did. Oh, and this Miami based WCG minister who was also landlord is another example among many that the Worldwide Church of God DID NOT, AND NEVER DID preach Common.

As Dennis' excellent recent post pointed out, Common is a Dave Pack doctrine. I'll add that Pack came up with this doctrine to save his ass because we don't know what his bank covenants require for cash reserves on his campus financing agreement. I'll bet Dennis Diehl's last dollar that Pack's Armstrong business franchise is not in compliance with his bank covenants thus the brazen shake down of all member assets.

Dave Pack's Common doctrine is evil to the core.

I didh't say he was a charlatan. Theologians note he is the author of today's gentile Christianity as opposed to the Jewish Christian church of Peter , James and John. The NT , when read properly, shows the rancor between these men and Paul as not a team player who did not do what is said he said he would according to Acts 15 etc. Galatians 1-2 should be enough to convince even a mere Bible reader that Paul had only use for himself and his gospel and no other.
