LCG: Members Being Persecuted By Pigs

From an LCG member:

In the latest Weekly Update on LCG churches, it has a feature about church members in Guyana who are being persecuted by pigs who are eating their crops of cassava.

Mr. Shumway reported, “A number of our Brethren [in Guyana] lost their crops because of flooding…. While rainfall has not adversely affected our Brethren [in Brazil], the wild pigs have. Hundreds of pigs have descended on some of the farms, destroying much of the cassava crop. If this continues, there will be little food left for our members…. The members are praying for deliverance and looking for a way to protect their crops. It is remarkable to see the dedication of our members in these remote areas—especially considering the infrequency of ministerial visits. Your prayers are deeply appreciated!” He also mentioned that they were able to provide some food staples as well as some needed items to help the brethren make a living, thanks to the generous tithes and offerings of brethren in more prosperous parts of the region.

Simple solution, make some bacon!

We should send them an industrial supply of Tomcat Rat Bait. They’d still need to deal with all of the carcases. What a bummer for these people. And to think that I complain about the pigeons in my neighborhood!

I would not want to make fun of people in difficult circumstance.

I do get the irony of it all that om some societies the miraculous descend of the pigs would be seen aa blessing by the gods.

Just like the citizens of the united states of america viewed low prized mc donalds hamburgers as an entitlement or blessing of the usa while in reality the cia kept a guatamalan dictatorship in place who allowed the rainforest to be destroyed in order to have american beef produced in former rainforest.

I have no illusions on who exactly is the american god who so called bestowed "blessings" on a cursed entitled people.

Hey, nck, maybe this plague of the pigs is intended to be LCG’s spiritual equivalent of Peter’s dream (Acts 10:9-16).

I was not aware of what Cassava was before. Apparently this is a major ingredient in Tapioca.

From Wikipedia:

Manihot esculenta, commonly called cassava (/kəˈsɑːvə/), manioc,[2] yuca, macaxeira, mandioca, aipim and Brazilian arrowroot,[citation needed] is a woody shrub native to South America of the spurge family, Euphorbiaceae. It is extensively cultivated as an annual crop in tropical and subtropical regions for its edible starchy tuberous root, a major source of carbohydrates. Though it is often called yuca in Spanish and in the United States, it differs from yucca, an unrelated fruit-bearing shrub in the family Asparagaceae. Cassava, when dried to a powdery (or pearly) extract, is called tapioca; its fried, granular form is named garri.

Cassava is the third-largest source of food carbohydrates in the tropics, after rice and maize.[3][4] Cassava is a major staple food in the developing world, providing a basic diet for over half a billion people.[5] It is one of the most drought-tolerant crops, capable of growing on marginal soils. Nigeria is the world's largest producer of cassava, while Thailand is the largest exporter of dried cassava.

Cassava is classified as either sweet or bitter. Like other roots and tubers, both bitter and sweet varieties of cassava contain antinutritional factors and toxins, with the bitter varieties containing much larger amounts.[6] It must be properly prepared before consumption, as improper preparation of cassava can leave enough residual cyanide to cause acute cyanide intoxication,[7][8] goiters, and even ataxia, partial paralysis, or death. The more toxic varieties of cassava are a fall-back resource (a "food security crop") in times of famine or food insecurity in some places.[7][6] Farmers often prefer the bitter varieties because they deter pests, animals, and thieves.[9]

There was a time when I actually said vehemently, “I will die of starvation before I eat pork!” Well, I lied. I now love (but don’t eat often) crispy fried bacon, well done sausage patties and an occasional hot dog. I’ve even eaten pulled pork bbq sandwiches and pork chops. Lightning hasn’t struck me (yet) and I’m still alive.

I do not begrudge their belief about pigs because more than one religion prohibits the eating of pork. And aside from the way they believe, I’m sorry their crops are being devoured. Is the head of LCG helping these poor people, or is he/they just telling the membership to send in what’s left of their hard-earned dollars?

This post seems kind of mean - the same thing we take the COGs to task for.
I recommend you delete it.
When people are subsistence farmers, they should have our sympathy and support, not mocking, regardless of their religious beliefs.

LCG news...
Messrs. Ciesielka, Strain, and Sweat are working hard to transition to their new assignments.

What about Jim Meredith? Has he transitioned already to his new assignment? Now that Dad is dead, is he forgotten already?

----
Further LCG news... how nice to read to your children and study the Bible together - but is LCG a Christian church or a branch of Judaism?
Don't Christian churches start with New Testament stories?

Reading to Your Children

Parents! Reading with your children is a proven way to make lifelong connections with them. Children love to be read stories—especially by their parents! And what better material to use than the Bible, which contains not mere “stories” but rather the real history of man? Each week the Living Church of God posts new lessons for you to use to connect with your children. At the end of a long week, after dinner on Friday night, what better way to start the Sabbath than by reading to your children—and talking about—the lives and lessons of God’s people in past generations?

Check out this week’s posting—you can find it at the lcgeducation.org website under “Children’s Bible Lessons” (where you can also access past lessons):

Level 1 (ages 6–7): “Cain and Abel Offer Sacrifices to God”

Level 2 (ages 8–9): “Noah and His Family Are Delivered”

Level 3 (ages 10–11): “From Abram to Abraham: The Circumcision Covenant”

they are godless, so theres no guidance or force of morality in them: they think theyve evolved from animals, hence they act animallike; devoid of emphathy...

and ironically these people, what claim to repect scientific research, conveniently ignore the science that has proven that the eating of swine is unhealthy...

and yet again they fulfill the prophecy of there being scoffers in the end time...

I do not like to read about anyone's suffering, whether it is LCG members, third world countries, abuse victims, people born into bad circumstances, or anything else. This story is no exception.

I hope that they will find relief for their means of income, and through that process, give thanks to God for His providence and care which is available for all.
