Church of the Eternal God and Bwana Thiel: People Who Fall Away Immediately Start Eating Pork

The self-appointed apostle and Elijah of the improperly named "continuing" Church of God Bob is lashing out at other Church of God members who went with other splinter groups.

The doubly-blessed one quotes a letter from the Church of the Eternal God about "why" when people "fall away" they start eating pork and doing other fun things.
Over the years, when members disassociated themselves from the Church, they immediately began to eat pork, celebrate Christmas and Easter, and reject the observance of the weekly and annual Sabbaths. We ask again, how could it happen?
The apostle Paul wondered about the same phenomenon. He phrases his puzzling observations in these terms in Galatians 1:6-7: “I marvel that you are turning away so soon from Him who called you in the grace of Christ, to a different gospel, which is not another; but there are some who trouble you and want to pervert the gospel of Christ.”
Christ warned in the parable of the sower that some would hear and immediately receive the word with joy, but because they have no root in themselves, they only endure for a while and when problems come, they immediately stumble and leave (Matthew 13:20-21). Others may hear the word but don’t really understand it (even though they may think that they do), and so Satan comes and immediately snatches away what was sown in their hearts (Matthew 13:19; Mark 4:15). In all these cases, their departure from the Truth comes quickly and suddenly.
When someone detaches himself and cuts himself off from Christ as the vine, he will wither away (John 15:1-6). This process occurs quickly. Christ showed us how quickly this can happen when He cursed the unfruitful fig tree. We read that “immediately the fig tree withered away” (Matthew 21:19), so that the disciples asked, “How did the fig tree wither away so soon?” (verse 20).  CEG
Then the holistic dreamy Chief Overseer, Bob the Elijah writes:
Yes, many quickly fell away from the truth...
But sadly, most who did not fall away completely from the truth, chose to ignore certain biblical principles and priorities and settled with becoming independent or otherwise affiliating with Laodicean leaders.
What does Elijah Bob think he is? Is he not independent?  Did he not set up his own group? Did he not lead people to ignore biblical principles when they started to follow him? Is he not a "Laodicean" leader? I do not doubt that his African followers are sincere seekers of God who thought they were doing the right thing when they hitched their wagons to his doomed train, but due to their desire to follow a human leader, they joined up with a wayward Laodicean leader that will ultimately lead them to their doom.

Bwana Bob really needs to eat some bacon, it would calm his hysterics down some.

Bob doesn’t understand the human mind. There are a variety of activities and responses which kick in when one person leaves a personality cult that another who is still drinking the Kool Aid considers to be the faith once delivered by God’s Apostle.

Armstrongism did not just invoke the Old Covenant dietary laws, they conducted aversion therapy towards the forbidden meats, dramatizing parasites, identifying animals as scavengers (you are what you eat), and citing opinions allegedly from doctors. For this reason, although I left in 1975, I never got back into eating pork or ham. I tried shrimp and lobster a few times, but even those disgusted me too much to eat. In fact, when neighbors are grilling pork chops out doors, I become nauseated and must go back indoors to avoid a headache or vomiting. Beef, on the other hand, has a superb and tantalizing aroma while cooking.

Bob’s statements are disingenuous, because he picks and chooses his own beliefs from his history in WCG and LCG. I guess he considers himself to be the final arbiter, just as do the macro-ACOGs!

These ACOG leaders are such whiny morons. Many people leave the ACOGs but still like the Old Testament. These people become Jews, Noachides, or Messianics, and they don't start eating pork. Unless they are Messianics of a particular kind, they don't start celebrating Christmas. Also absurd is the assertion:

Christ warned in the parable of the sower that some would hear and immediately receive the word with joy, but because they have no root in themselves, they only endure for a while and when problems come, they immediately stumble and leave (Matthew 13:20-21).

CEG and Thiel are mostly writing to people who have been in an ACOG for 20 years or more, and in many cases to people with a decade or two in WCG before their splinter experience began. The idea that these people stumble immediately when problems come makes light of their 30-40 years of non-stumbling. Yes, it is true that there is a revolving door of prospective members who leave within a year of baptism, but these few baptisms are vastly outnumbered by the ACOG members who finally decide, even after 30-50 years in the church, to leave.

Strangely, it hasn't occurred to Bob that one of the biggest signs that a person has fallen away from the truth is that he has started to use Mayan and Roman Catholic prophecies to form his worldview and prophetic message.

An implication of Matthew 13:20-21 is rarely questioned. That is, why do some "have no root in themselves" yet others do? My personal observation is that those who worked long and hard in school, do well in their Christian walk. Those who didn't study and do their homework, continue the pattern for the rest of their lives.
So make sure that your kids/grand kids do their homework or they will become spiritual failures. Then they will come to Banned, posting that there is no God and that the bible is not His inspired word.

If you think pork-eating is the gospel, as this post implies, you sadly have the wrong gospel.

This is sheer B.S. I know several people who have left all COG organizations. The unclean foods doctrine is about the ONLY thing that they have held on to. I personally know a widow who was with WCG for many years. All she learned in 60 years of church going was about food and nutrition. She has rejected EVERYTHING else.

It is interesting that all the splinter groups talk about this or that of things we should or shouldn't do. The only splinter that does not preach on anything about keeping any of God's law is COGWA. They give a nice baptist or methodist sermons don't rock the boat. They collect a very large amount of money and build themselves a new edifice. Do they do a work with the money they collect? The Answer is no and if you ask why you are marked as a trouble maker. That does bring up another issue they never get back to you if you ask a question they can't answer which is most of the time and again you are put on some list not to associate with you. Here in Roanoke is just a small sample of how inept Cogwa is.

I grew up avoiding kryptonite like the plague because I read comic books in which Superman told me kryptonite was bad for people's health. Also, my parents told me that if I didn't do everything Superman said, that he would get mad at me, and punish me.

But when I grew up, I realized that comic books are fiction, and Superman isn't real. I think that kryptonite is just fiction too, but if not, just because Superman told me to stay away from something, that's not really a very good reason to do so.

The bible is just a 1st century comic book of an extremist Jewish sect in which a fictional Jewish superhero saves them from everyone they felt were villains in the last chapter.

When I was a child, I spoke as a child, I understood as a child, I thought as a child; but when I became a man, I threw away all my comic books, including my bible!

If you did that as a joke, even I think that is not something to brag about or all that funny.
It's one thing to watch Bob major in the minors or pretend to be a prophet. It's another thing to deceive a person or dishonor their, no doubt, sincere practice. You did yourself more a disservice than you did Bob IMHO.

Did you know that more people suffer scalp and brain injuries from falling with a crown on than football players who wear helmets? It's true

The Bible teaches clean and unclean meats. It also teaches sanitation and quarantine principles.
If you ignore the genocide and slavery and focus on the positive, the Bible has many good principles to live by.
Use your mind to discern what is worthwhile.

I never understood this business about Satan stealing crowns. I mean, what does he DO with them? If crowns represent positions in the Kingdom of God, is Satan gaining positions in the Kingdom of God every time he steals a crown? If he doesn't gain something valuable when he steals a crown, what's in it for him? If God has prepared a certain number of positions for the firstfruits, we know that the number won't change because of Satan. God will raise up whoever/whatever He needs for His Kingdom. So, again, what's in it for Satan?

It took me quite a while after leaving to abandon the dietary limitations. Once I understood how utterly unscientific they were and only intended to keep the Israelites separate from the nations around them, I quit the nonsense. I just try to practice moderation in all things, including diet.

Why does Satan and his minions crown steal? Why did Cain kill Abel? Psychology texts use expressions such as "a compulsive need to drag others down" to describe toxic personalities. People being persecuted or murdered out of envy has been rampant throughout history. It's the reason why the Pharisees murdered Christ. "Alleviating ones sense of failure" is another reason given for destroying ones betters. There are various (temporary) negative rewards for murder.
Not forgetting, HWAs ministers (wrongly) believe that they can get better positions in the kingdom by crippling the minds of church members.

He’s the worst written villain. What’s his motivation? He asks constantly for permission to deceive. He’s obsessed with humans living forever. He already lost once but thinks he can win the second time? What kind of villain relies on the hero for permission to enslave and assault the creators creation?

Magneto and Thanos are better written. At least their motivations make sense

Seriously?! Lol! I look around at siblings and friends who definitely weren’t the academic types and they’re more successful than me now who was the “dumb” one imo focusing on completing my assignments, revising for exams, etc. and now they’ve got careers, partners, homes, children, traveling the country and world etc. and I’m the jobless, homeless, childless, and sick one who can’t do anything I want to. So much for working long and hard in school. Fat lot of good it did me in the real world. If I only knew then what I know now :-(

@ 8:35 AM, you seem to be forgetting that since God will admit the same number of crowns in the Kingdom he is preparing, according to ACOG teachings, Satan can't spread more deprivation by stealing crowns. All he can do is transfer the reward from one person to another, which seems like a waste of his time.

I was talking in generalities. I've heard of academically brilliant students failing to get or hold a job. Other limitations held them back. I've also witnessed people with good jobs, home, family, who are moral failures. The concept of struggle and heavy lifting is foreign to them.
People who quit school at age 15-16 for no good reason, or who get poor grades, are rarely successful in the broad sense.

True! 30 years after the fact I ONLY adhere to the dietary habits still.

And of course I still don't go around killing people among other values.

I do recognize many 100 year olds who never heard about such dietary habits.

Health was never or only a very minor reason to adhere to the food "laws".

What about the fake pork meat eaters? Eating turkey ham at potlucks was always very odd to me.
It's ok, its turkey.
errrmm turkey full of chemicals to taste like ham.

Would churches approve of Turkey human meat? Turkey chemically enhanced to taste like humans. What's the difference?

Papa can you hear me?
