Van Robison: "Is God a Monster as Portrayed by the Bible?"

It leaves me speechless that so many "Christians" seem to relish punishment, judgment and pain for those whom they consider "sinners."   You indeed must be a "sinner" if your views differ with that of "Christians" or church goers, or the "pastors" of churches.    Some seem to think that Sunday church goers are so evil, that they have no chance of salvation, because they are part of "Mystery Babylon the Great."   Without realizing it, Saturday Sabbath keepers are a very small minority among human beings on earth.  In fact they are a speck of sand upon the seashore of humanity.   Are these the only people who will survive into eternity?

Oh foolish human beings, who follow preachers who take captives.   Every pastor takes captives and only the childish in thought, follow such people.   Pastors of churches dearly love to cause church goers to live in FEAR, that "God is going to get you, if you do not comply."   For thousands of years, the simple minded have been screwed by the religious rulers who assume power and control over the childish, naive and gullible minds of non-thinkers. Pastors of churches love to quote verses from the Bible, that instill FEAR in church goers.   Naturally FEAR is one of the greatest motivations in life on earth.

Preachers endlessly proclaim "tithe or be cursed", "obey those who rule over you"  or God will "get you."   I suspect that this fraud actually has been going on long before preachers, who use the name of Jesus Christ fraudulently ever existed.   In the old days, it was purchase your animals from the priests or temples and then sacrifice your animals for your sins, or be cursed.   The benefactors have always been the priests and the pastors.

Among the greatest frauds in life on earth, are "pastors" of churches and "priests" who pretend that they speak for God.   No one but the most childish of adults would submit their lives to such charlatans.   Every church goer who thinks some "pastor" or "elder" or group of men, speak for God, is among the most STUPID of human beings on earth.   Until God Himself speaks to you individually and personally, you actually know NOTHING about God, other than BLANK SPACE.

"God's Church"

If there is one phrase that packs punch in the Churches of God it is the use and over use of "God's Church."   The phrase causes people to freeze in their spiritual tracks.  It soothes the mind knowing that one has found it or is a current part of it.  It becomes nonsensical when one steps outside their own "God's Church" box and realizes that there are hundreds made up of the very ministers and people who once thought they all collectively were in it.  It is the one phrase that can niggle at you with the fact that all the "God's Churches" are run differently and have different beliefs or have the very same beliefs and can't get along because a man won't relinquish his hold over the masses, ok...hundreds to another man who also won't let go of power as he perceives power.

I don't recall one time where my Presbyterian ministers ever used the phrase "God's Church," in a sermon or in any way used it to impart speciality to the congregation.  It is a uniquely spoken phrase of fundamentalists and all who are just sure that the order of things is  "God, Christ, The Disciples, The Apostles, My Church, My Leader, Myself and a few other leading Evangelists not to be named."   It's simple and a direct connect that could not be proved if one put a gun to someone's head.

The phrase works nicely in a larger congregation.  Larger I suppose is an illusion about the concept of God's Church when one considers the population of the earth that "God's Church" has supposed to have been going ye therefore into all these hundreds and thousands of years.  Not much of a harvest for "God's Church" if you count it all up , but when all else fails we can default to , "ye have a little strength," or "the harvest is yet ahead."

Sadly and of course (let him who ears to hear understand:), "God's Church" is also a Meme which is a form of repetitive mind virus that takes on a life of its own and duplicates itself from one mind to the next.  "Things go better with Coke" and all that.  A meme is a jingle or slogan set to an engaging melody.  That's why "God Church" has hymns they can't stop singing but make no sense in reality.  "Onward Christian Soldiers," comes to mind and the part where they all sing, "We are not divided. All one body we. One in hope and doctrine. One in charity."  Sure fine...  Let's not forget the mind killer "Death shall them seize, and to the tomb, alive they shall go down," or "praise ye the Lordo." 

A meme is an "earworm" which is a song that gets stuck in the head for hours, days or weeks that you can't get out of your head and wonder why it keeps playing without your permission.  I got Freddy Mercury's "Bohemian Rhapsody," stuck in my head a few weeks ago and it drove me nuts.  Then it goes away.  "God's Church" is such a fall back earworm that when all else fails, turns on and reminds one that no matter how goofy the situation is, it is still "God's Church."

Nursery rhymes are memes as are many of the stories of the Bible and of "God's Church."  One could not actually prove anything in the Bible or any specific story with specific people ever really happened in time and space but they are repeated when needed to make a point and control "God's Church." An Angel grabbing HWA's steering wheel and driving him to a home he needed to be at is a meme.  It might also be a lie but I spare you. 

You can read ad after ad in The Journal, scores actually, about "God's Church."  Throw in the word "True" and you got a Super Meme that is meant to really grab those that merely belong to "God's Church."  If the "God's Church" concept included all of them, there would be no need to advertise or move from your previous "God's True Church."   In all my life, I NEVER met anyone, COG, Catholic, Protestant, Hindu or Pentecostal who said, "Yea...I know I am in the false Church, but it's close to home."  All Churches are "God's Church" in the mind of the congregant or it would set them into a panic and a quest for "God's True Church."

In my present truth there is no "God's True Church" or "God's Church."  If there is then they are a mess and not the kind that would attract a critically thinking and somewhat idealistic soul.  But the concept of "God's Church" can certainly keep one in their seat no matter how much human drama is consuming the church or how, what should be obviously something that would turn people away, does not.

For example...the recent conviction of Witness Ron Weinland for tax evasion and misappropriation of Church funds and all that.  I listened in part yesterday , to Ron's post conviction sermon.  He was not giving the sermon and I have to feel for him in the sense that he must be numb, or not, who knows.  But the speaker spent the entire time in "God's Church" mode.  Now remember  (or is it re-memeber?) Ron is a one man church.  He sets the beliefs.  He sets the goals. He sets the agenda.  He interprets the Bible for the audience.  He, he he.. (This is called DaveaFlurraphobia:)  Now he is going to prison but the speaker spent the whole time going through all the scriptures showing the leaders in "God's Church" had to experience prison and persecution.  There is NO connect to the obvious crimes committed unrelated to persecution, but the meme keeps one in the seat.  It's not Ron's Church...It's God's.   So it holds the space for him when he gets out evidently.  It's a powerful meme and Ron has successfully, up til now, kept the minds of others from thinking it is Ron's Church and to think it is "God's Church," no matter what.  This bigger falsehood defuses his reality to some evidently.

If all the Churches of God combined are "God's Church," then in my view, the God of the Hubble  telescope and the fact that in our time we realize just big the Universe is and that we may just be one grape on one cluster in one row of one vineyard of Universes is simply missing in action. All flesh is not grass, it is nothing.

I would have liked to find "God's Church" in this age.  At 14-18, which are very vulnerable years in the 1960's, I thought I had.  Why does a kid even think about such stuff?  I was weird and so were many of you.  lol.   I can understand men coming out of WW 2 looking for a better way.  One minister I knew flew P 38's but never said what he did with it.  Joe Tkach Sr. had war stories but he may have fallen into the category of wanna have war stories but didn't.  I don't know. 

But if there is "God's Church" somewhere, I have no clue where and probably would not trust it or allow myself to give up my mind to it.  I can't imagine myself ever sitting in "God's Church" much less "God's True Church" again.  I can't say I like that, but I can't be what I am not or believe the unbelievable at this point. 

I am glad for someone who can restart their Church experience.  Everyone of them drops the "God's Church" meme when they do or at least they don't use the term.  I doubt they would as "Church" becomes good enough.  I hear them repeating the same memes in different form but that is their journey and I have mine.  Church and religion eases our absolute fear of death. That is its origin.  That is why when one causes others to question their views, they get livid and attack back.  No one wants to belong to the wrong church or believe the wrong things, which of course no one does.  People don't like it when they feel threatened in what has, to this point, made them feel very safe.  Trust me...this journey does not feel safe to me anymore.

But I will not fall for the "God's Church" meme again.  If there is such a place then I'd have to think the Deity is playing hide n seek with us.  It's never been obvious what the Bible teaches on this or that.  It depends who you read.  The proofs of "God's Church" can be unproved by those not given to believing them and unproved with the Bible.  History can be seized upon as needed while others can undo your history with theirs.  Frankly, I have never heard one person, even on this blog, listen to another and say, "you know, I used to believe_______, but you are right and I no longer believe___________" 

Memes such as "God's Church" are very strong.  And while things may not really go better with Coke, or an apple a day may not really keep the doctor away anymore than a Twinkie, it sounds good.  It is comforting and settling .  It will keep you in your seats by turning off common sense and critical thinking.  Humans generally opt for feeling safe over being correct.  Phrases cemented in the mind such as "God's Church," or "God's True Church" are powerful reminders of what people will tolerate in religion and beliefs.

There was a great piece in the in the Pasadena Star News recently by Larry Wilson.  The article is about Bobby Fischer and a new play about his wacky life.  The interesting thing to me is the first few comments.

Pasadena has been home to the emergence of several wacko men who achieved greatness with their far out beliefs.  L Ron Hubbard and Scientology, Jack Parsons of JPL and his descent into demonism and the dark arts, G G Green and his patent medicines and more.  Add to that mix Herbert Armstrong and his empire and Bobby Fischers descent into madness through his affiliation with Armstrongism.

He starts the article off with this quote:

Maybe not so much now - although several lurk.

But, in the `40s and `50s, L. Ron Hubbard when he was still a mere science fiction writer and JPL co-founder and dark arts practitioner Jack Parsons; in the pioneer era huckster geniuses such as Colonel G.G. Green - patent medicines - and "Professor" Thaddeus Lowe, the Civil War aeronaut who made millions in hydrogen and lost it all on the failed alpine resort at Mt. Lowe.

All three of the above lived on South Orange Grove Boulevard. So did a later wacko - or just off of it, at least. Chess genius and if anything deeper wacko Bobby Fischer moved to Pasadena in the 1980s because of a truly weird affiliation with the Worldwide Church of God, center of Herbert W. Armstrong's empire at the magnificent Ambassador College campus on the boulevard and just east of it. 

Bobby Fishers association with Armstrongism is legendary.  It made the news in Pasadena for many years.  All the books currently out talk about how Armstrong and the Church exploited him for the publicity, then kept encouraging as he descended into madness.

Wilson continues:

Fischer was one of those creepiest of the creepy unfortunates in this world - a massively anti-Semitic Jew. So he latched on to the WCG as a port in his personal storm, when he'd achieved his lifetime goal of a world chess championship and then after a time declined to defend his title as he went more and more insane. 

Fischer found several compatriots that were anti-Jewish in Armstrongism.  There has always been that undercurrent of antisemitism present in the Church.  Many try to deny it, but it was there.  Some of the men in LCG and UCG were the men who were passing around The Protocols of the Elders of  Zion and other anti-Semitic books.

One would think that a church would not be involved in this stuff, would be setting the example on what it means to be people of faith and morality, but that has never been the case with us.  It's been one news story after another.  Adulterous leaders, fornicating Elders, rapists, murderers, thieves,  preachers of aberrant doctrine and more. The list could go on for many more paragraphs.  Armstrongism has left a sad trail of destruction it's wake.  So much for being agents of the Kingdom of God!  Like many others, I have to say "No Thanks!"

Bible Sabbath Association UK Founder Hearing Voices From His Computer

For some strange reason Armstrongism attracted a lot of really weird people.  These people were deeply into conspiracy theories.  They were into the Protocols of Zion, chem trails, Fema camps that were really concentration camps, black helicopters, the Illuminati, Masonic conspiracies and much, much more.  All of this useless balder all was used to further support many of the racists and totally absurd prophecy teachings of the Worldwide Church of God and Herbert Armstrong.

With the implosion of the WCG in the mid 1990's hundreds of groups formed to carry on the "true" mantle of the end time Church of God.  One of these groups was the Bible Sabbath Association UK started by Robert Taylor.

Like many who expected the Church to tell them what to believe and how to do it, the church implosion left many without any stability.  With the rejection of the Sabbath and other things they thought were commanded, they sank deeper and deeper into legalism.  Armstrongism could no longer fit the bill.  They sometimes wandered over to Judaism as their next step. Others jumped into Messianic Judaism.  This is what Robert Taylor did.

He maintained a blog for several years dealing with Messianic Judaism.  Then all of sudden last year it went silent.

It seems that he was messing around on his computer one day earlier this year and checked out the UK Government Communications Headquarters web site.  Apparently this was a VERY bad choice. According to Taylor, the UK government started spying on him and laughing at him through his computer speakers.  All of a sudden his computer mouse would have a mind of it's own and start moving around the desk.  Freaky!

A few months ago, I decided to visit the GCHQ website, this was during the time that they were in the news over a former spy who had been found dead in a box.

Little did I realise at the time, this would seemingly change my life for the worst. It was about a week later that I noticed things starting to change. My computer would act up, get even slower, the mouse would move on its own, and even began hearing voices coming out of the computer speakers. Sometimes, I would hear, "he's asleep" or just plain laughter.

At this time, according to Taylor,  the UK Communications HQ started bombarding his brain with microwaves and other mind control tools that started causing him headaches.and migraines.

To gain some peace of mind he would go for drives in his car. But, voices started coming out of his car speakers.

Several months later he has another entry where he says this:

Five months on, and the electromagnetic or satellite surveillance is in full swing, with increasing electronic pulses being sent to my brain, though many may think this is the world of craziness.  A new computer was bought, and again, the mouse moves on its own, and interference continues with the computer, with websites disappearing or changing etc.  

The UK Government was even mocking him on Passover. After celebration the Passover, the government was talking to him through his computer speakers.

And what was really upsetting was that during the Passover Service, I had an audience from the government agencies listening in the Passover Seder. They are able to hack into computers even when not connected to the Internet, since, I heard them say, "he's asleep" after resting after the Service from my computer speakers. 

 
Robert apparently is a prime example on what happens when a persons mind is destroyed by a cult.  He called up the UKCHQ to complain and a wise man there had this to say to him:

Some might assume that I am crazy, in fact, I rang up GCHQ to complain about this intrusion, the man belonging to public affairs stated that he thought I might need to see a doctor. 

 I couldn't agree more! Another mind destroyed by legalism and Armstrongism.

UCG Still Struggling Financially

Things still are not rosy, money wise, within UCG.  After COGWA's stealth apostasy against the UCG, hundreds of thousands of dollars no longer flow into UCG's coffers.  Money  continues to be tight as many UCGers are withholding tithes and offerings as they wait and see what is going to happen.

A recent UCG financial report states:

I’ve heard, second hand, that the income has grown some in the last year but frankly we now realize that we had not made the necessary reductions to reflect our reduced income from what we were receiving two years ago.  My understanding is that the savings we had, that would have been enough to take us through 10 weeks of no income, is now basically gone and we’re having a cash flow crunch.  Some expenses that were to be paid before the Feast of Tabernacles were paid after the feast.  There is still a cash flow problem despite having a good feast offering.

Church employees in the U. S. no longer receive matching funds for retirement accounts (this is one cut that was made two years ago).  Healthcare benefits are going to have to be cut.  There will probably be larger deductibles and co-pays.

Church pastors are being asked to cut down on trips and their mileage reimbursements are being lowered.  Most meetings are now being done on the phone or online rather than face-to-face.  The Council of Elders is having most of its meetings online, though they do need to get together face-to-face for some things.  Aaron Dean, our treasurer, wrote us this: “I hope that cutbacks in our travel will be a temporary situation, and that God will bless us with more income from donors. Please fervently pray as I and all in the Home Office are praying for God to increase income, heal our employees and increase our faith in him. The whole country faces a rough road ahead, as you all have preached for many years.  In the meantime, please do more phone visits and less driving where possible.”
