Pining For The New Moon

Leave it to James Malm to make life ridiculously legalistic as he searches for the faintest glimpse of the New Moon in order for him to officially declare the Feast of Trumpets is happening.  Imagine parking your sore butt on some rock on the hillside with your binoculars out as you continually scan the horizon for the faintest glimpse of the new moon.  This is what happens when you bastardize the law into something it was never meant to do.  Just like he waits for people to crawl over the Judean hillsides looking for the first grains of barley he places all of his energy in prostituting himself to the letter of the law instead of understanding what Jesus did and accomplished.  Just like Bawana Bob Thiel, James Malm has placed his faith in something he can never completely accomplish. They each search for the unattainable.

The New Moon was NOT seen from Jerusalem or anywhere in Israel this evening, therefore the first day of the Biblical Seventh Month will begin at sunset ending 11 September and the Feast of Trumpets will be all day until sunset Sep 12.
Early on Sep 11 there will be a post on the New Moon as it applies to the Feast of Trumpets. Tomorrow afternoon at 19:00 EDT there will be a post on events during the period between Pentecost and the Feast of Trumpets.  There will also be a post on the Feast of Trumpets, during the actual Feast on 12 Sep.

Living Church of God On How To Dress For The Feast

Apparently, the boys in Charlotte still think LCG members are too stupid to know how to dress appropriately. For over 80 years now the record is still skipping in the same spots.

What Is Appropriate Dress at the Feast?

General Guidelines: In most modern cultures, coats, collared shirts, ties and nice slacks are considered appropriate attire for men on special occasions. This may vary in tropical climates, yet, in all climates there is a distinction between what is appropriate and what is not. 1 Timothy 2:9–10 explains that ladies should dress “in modest apparel, with propriety and moderation.” This does not include the trendy and immodest apparel that is commonplace for many women in our society today: short, tight, form-fitting dresses, necklines displaying cleavage, bare shoulders, backless dresses, belly-baring tops, etc. Our challenge as Christian men and women is to come out of this world (2 Corinthians 6:17) and recapture true values so we can be lights to a world that has lost its way (Matthew 5:14–16). This is especially true as we gather to celebrate the Feast of Tabernacles—picturing Christ’s glorious reign on earth!

Beachwear
Beachwear at the Feast for ladies should be a modest one-piece or a modest tankini (covering the mid-section); and for the men, no Speedo-type swimsuits, except when pool facility rules require them. Fathers and husbands have a responsibility to be leaders in the family to teach and guide regarding what is appropriate and what is not (Ezekiel 22:26).

Special Music
In most Western-culture settings, the appropriate clothing for men doing special music is coat and tie; for ladies, a dress or skirt and blouse that are modest and conservative. Because being on an elevated platform or stage at the Feast makes hemlines appear higher than they actually are, a good rule of thumb when performing special music is for a dress or skirt to at least reach the knees, including when seated. Avoid high slits in a dress or skirt. If dress attracts undue attention, it will draw the minds of those in the congregation away from their focus on the music and worship of God. For sake of example, those chosen to be on the special music list at the Feast should dress appropriately and modestly, based on these guidelines above, at all times, even when not performing.

Gerald Weston: We Are Not Delusional! We Are Not Crazy!

Gerald Weston has sent out a letter to the faithful as they prepare for the fall holy days, which all lead up to The Last Great Day when faithful LCG members will become God and rule the universe.  But in the meantime, life here on earth is a crap fest.  The church is under constant attack by the "prince of the power of the air", disgruntled members, blogs and Bawana Bob.

Dear brethren, it is important that we keep this vision in mind. The world may see us as delusional, but if the Bible is the word of God, which we know it is, then we are not so crazy. We are following in the footsteps of biblical figures who went before us. We are following the faith of Abraham, the courage of Daniel, and the steadfastness of Noah.
We are not there yet, but this we can know for sure: We are all going to die, and either there is a resurrection or there is not. There is no middle ground. Either the Bible is true, or it is not. Again, no middle ground. We are here because we believe the Bible and we believe there is a resurrection—and we believe that the resurrection is to an eternal life of service and action. There is no great “candy store in the sky” to merely gratify our senses.
No, but there will be a great "candy store in the universe" when LCG members become gods and are given rods to rule their worlds with a strong spanking hand!

LCG should be careful about mocking those who believe in heaven when they themselves believe in something that is just as equally crazy or crazier!  Remember now that the Kingdom of God will be ruled this way:

God
Jesus
Moses
Abraham
David
Herbert Armstrong
Rod Meredith
Gerald Weston
pee-on godlet's
Oh yes, life in the family of God involves joy and pleasure, for we read in Psalm 16:11, “In your presence is fullness of joy; at Your right hand are pleasures forevermore.” But this is not separate from work, productivity, and service. “Jesus answered them [those who criticized Him for healing on the Sabbath], ‘My Father has been working until now, and I have been working’” (John 5:17). God the Father and Jesus Christ have never retired—and neither will we quit. How wonderful it will be to have bodies that do not break down with age and to live productively in a harmonious eternal family!
We must keep these things in mind as we struggle through daily life, and we must recognize how short this physical life is! We must follow the example of those who paved the way for us:
"These all died in faith, not having received the promises, but having seen them afar off were assured of them, embraced them and confessed that they were strangers and pilgrims on the earth. For those who say such things declare plainly that they seek a homeland. And truly if they had called to mind that country from which they had come out, they would have had opportunity to return. But now they desire a better, that is, a heavenly country. Therefore God is not ashamed to be called their God, for He has prepared a city for them" (Hebrews 11:13–16).

Yes, let's emulate the life of the great Rod Meredith who ripped apart long-standing marriages and destroyed families. Who defamed Leona McNair when he lied from the pulpit. The man who connived and plotted with Raymond McNair to set up Global Church of God so Meredith would have a job when he left WCG. Let's follow the same man who then stabbed Raymond McNair in the back and took Global Church of God's money and members to form living Church of God with the help of a known COG pedophile. Yes, let's follow a man who preached such depressing hate filled sermons that Terry Ratzman was led to kill LCG members during Sabbath services. Let's emulate the man who spawned off from his church two of the biggest liars the COG has ever seen, Dave Pack and his ever-so-bitter Bob Thiel. And let's not forget to emulate the man so obsessed with sex that he could not carry on a normal conversation, write an article, or preach a sermon without discussing gay sex.

Nope, they are not crazy.  They are not delusional. They are just the "living" Church of God.

The Ultimate Conspiracy Theory

THE ULTIMATE CONSPIRACY THEORY
By
Lonnie C Hendrix aka Miller Jones
A friend (who is also part of the Armstrong Church of God culture) recently forwarded me a couple of articles on the mechanics of conspiracy theories. Although his email did not contain any commentary, it was obvious that he felt these articles had a high degree of relevance to our shared experience in Armstrongism.

The first article appeared in the BBC’s Focus Magazine (online edition) and was titled, “What makes a conspiracy theory?” The article was posted 5 September 2018 by Moya Sarner and makes some very interesting points that I think most ACOG folks would find interesting.
Sarner states: “Conspiracy theorists tend to believe that everyone else is being deceived, apart from themselves. The methods of deception, they believe, are elaborate, complex, ongoing and executed almost perfectly – pulling the wool over the eyes of those who haven’t yet ‘seen the light’.” Armstrong taught his followers that they alone had the TRUTH, and that the rest of the world (including Christianity at large) were deceived. He taught that Satan and the Roman Catholic Church had plotted and executed an elaborate, complex and ongoing scheme to change God’s laws and pervert/distort doctrinal truth.

Sarner goes on to say that conspiracy theorists employ selective proofs and reject or ignore any evidence which contradicts their thesis. Continuing, we read: “Conspiracy theories are often based not on hard evidence, but on picking holes in the mainstream narrative, pointing out what does not fit or does not seem to have an explanation, and using this as evidence that the conspiracy theory must be true.” Armstrong loved to point out inconsistencies in the narrative of Traditional Christianity (e.g. the notion of playing a harp all day while lounging on a cloud, being tormented in the flames of hell, three days and three nights, the pagan origins of Christian holidays, etc.) In short, he described these things in such terms to his readers that their absurdity made his teachings seem like the epitome of reason and common sense.

In “The rise of the Flat Earthers” (same magazine and author), Sarner points out that these theories are often completely unsupported by scientific evidence; “But conspiracy theorists question the institutions that provide this evidence, and countering their beliefs with logical reasoning doesn’t seem to work.” That should also sound familiar to anyone who has read or heard Armstrong’s teachings. Herbie often ridiculed theologians, scientists and intellectuals.
Why are we susceptible to these theories? Referring to an expert in the field, Sarner writes: “‘Our brain has a bias towards seeing meaning rather than just chaos, so sometimes we may think we see a pattern when it doesn’t really exist.’ He explains that this has evolutionary benefits: if a noise in the bushes is believed to be caused by a tiger rather than the wind, the listener will take evasive action which could save his life. ‘So when it comes to conspiracy theories, it’s all about taking ambiguous information and weaving it all together, spotting the patterns and connecting the dots.’” In other words, there has to be an explanation for what’s going on in the world, AND THIS MAKES SENSE TO ME!

Likewise, Sarner informs us that there is this thing called “proportionality bias, where we assume that if something big happens, such as a terrorist attack or a president being assassinated, something big must have caused it.” Think about this in relation to Armstrongism. All of the violence, chaos and confusion in the world made sense to us when we viewed it through the lens of Herbie’s teachings. Yes, the devil had to be behind it all – it would take someone/something that powerful to generate this mess!

Finally, Sarner points out that there is evidence to suggest that the folks who are most likely to fall for these theories often experience some level of anxiety or paranoia over their surroundings. Moreover, Sarner concludes that “Recent studies have also found that people who are more likely to believe in conspiracy theories also tend to have a need for uniqueness – a desire to be in the small group of people who are ‘in the know’.” We were among the chosen few who were in the know.

Yes, when we consider the phenomenon of conspiracy theories, it becomes clear to us that we fell for one of the grandest conspiracy theories of all time. As a fellow traveler, I know that the path back to reality and sanity can be very painful. I also know that there was a certain kind of solace and comfort in knowing THE TRUTH, and in being part of the few who were not deceived; but facing reality has its own rewards. After all, we may not be part of a select few; but it can still be inspiring to understand that we share this planet and life with billions of brothers and sisters! What do you think?
