Whew! It's Now Official - You Can Celebrate Feast of Trumpets Friday

Apostle Malm has declared that the New Moon was sighted in Jerusalem and you can officially observe the Feast of Trumpets Friday!  So get ready to start tooting that horn ALL day long!

The New Moon was not sighted east of Judea and at the same latitude last evening.  It has been sighted this evening making Friday the Feast of Trumpets as calculated and expected.

It was sighted at 6:30 pm by Pierre in Omer. That is adjacent to Beersheva in the Negev.

It was sighted at 6:45 pm by Nancy in Har Gilo. That is a suburb of Jerusalem.

This day is called Yom Teruah in the Hebrew, and Yom Teruah actually means a blast of rejoicing, or shouts of joy.

The instrument used is a Shofar which is primarily used to announce the presence of God; it is used as an alarm of war in the sense of warning the people and calling upon God to deliver.

We see from Lev 23 that:  1)   No work of any kind is to be done.  2)   This is to be a memorial of shouts of joy and Shofar blasts.  3)   A Sabbath and Holy Convocation of like minded persons.   4)   An offering made by fire [a burnt offering] is to be offered.
 4) Trumpets are commanded to be blown throughout the day. A loud sound is made by blowing or forcing air through the trumpet. This very thought of physical air reminds us of the raising to physical life of all Israel by the blowing of air or wind in Ezek 37. We know that this is physical life, for only the physical need air to live and only the physical have bone, flesh and sinew.

  1. Puzzling: A new moon cannot be sighted -- that's the whole point, it is hidden, invisible.

So How can it be sighted?

Now we've had this discussion before about postponements and slivers of moon and such.

The bottom line is, will there be a glorious full moon right at the Feast of Tabernacles, or it will it be just a couple of days after the full moon? Scripture indicates there must be the glory of the sky and that's at night. The same holds true in the spring when the Israelites left Egypt under a full moon.

Oh, well, we've already established that there aren't any real scientists amongst the leaders / founders / ministers amongst the Armstrongists, but to be fair, Dennis Luker was a fully qualified engineer working at Lockheed before he came to the lies of the Radio Church of God, gave up his career, endured GTA and ended up with the crap job he has now. We're sorry, it can't be much fun, but you know, sometimes you just have to live with the decisions, ya know?

At least there's money in it and possibly retirement... for now.

And yes, there are things I haven't been telling you... yet.

  2. Oh, well, OK, the Feast of Trumpets was yesterday.

  3. Interesting. UCG and LCg are keeping Trumpets today (Thursday). So are there 3 dates now that COG's keep it?

  4. If apostle malm had bothered to check he would see that the new moon appeared on the 27th. So he is 2.7 days off:

  5. Well, let's see. There's Thursday, today, when it's kept by the majority of the COGs(The fixed Jewish calendar won't let it fall on a Sunday, Wednesday or Friday even though the Rabbinic calendar's 19 year cycle places it on the 28th, and Nasa's data places it just after sunset on the 28th). There's Tuesday, Sept. 27 at 11:10 a.m.(GMT). The sliver of the moon was sighted in Jerusalem on the 29th by a group of zealots. Not sure what time, whether day or night. It was also sighted from Haifa, Israel on Thursday Sep 29 at 6:35pm. Not sure if any postponement rules apply this year. Whew! Sure glad I learned the truth about not having to keep those days any longer.

  6. Odd he would have such a problem.

The US Navy and Her Majesty The Queen's Royal Navy never get it wrong, and they always agree.

It was on the 27th at 18:22 (Ending Evening Nautical Time) in Jerusalem.

Most observers, I think, choose that date so when it was the 27th here, the New Moon began here as well.

Of course I no longer agonize over it any longer.

  7. Oops! I am so out of pratice with this stuff.

The astronomical New Moon began in Jerusalem at 13:09 and then was observed at sundown that day at(18:22 EENT)

  8. You aren't the only one out of practice! I had to look up UCG's "sacred" calendar just to see what day Trumpets was on! It's such a relief to not have to worry about that anymore.

  9. Comment to NO2HWA:

If you were with UCG, you still wouldn't "have to worry about that anymore." They would tell you what to believe, what to do and when to do it. As their assistant to Dennis Luker said a few years ago, "We have men who have studied all these things. Just believe what we tell you." .... NOT

This sounds familiar. I was reading a bit about the FLDS, since Warren Jeffs(prophet/leader of the polygamist FLDS church) has recently been sentenced to life in prison.
Some of the traditional sayings from the LDS(Mormon) church are-

"Follow the prophet, he'll never lead you astray."
"When the prophet speaks, the thinking is done."
"Do what the prophet tells you, even if it is wrong."

  11. The new moon, first quarter, full moon, and third quarter are PHASES, not precise days.

The first visible crescent moon can be sighted, the molad or dark moon cannot. Therefore, "observe the new moon....," makes it clear that it is the crescent moon which must be looked for.

Such are not matters of science, but matters of faith.

  12. The 27th is the molad (dark moon, the astrological new moon), not the sighted first crescent, which comes one to two days later.

HWA misled the COGers into keeping the substitute rabbinic calendar, not the lunar calendar.

  13. Actually, my dog goes outside, barks when he sees the new moon and the full moon, then poops and comes back inside. That sure beats an "ordained minister" telling me when to observe days, seasons, moons, and years!

  14. The bigger question is whether Christians are to keep it or not.

Feast keeping was added little by little over a period of time a Feast at a time, after the Ten Commandments. It wasn't as if "boom!" and they had a document outlining all the Feasts at one time.

Another thing for Old Testament Christians to consider is that the Feasts may have been given to point to Jesus Christ.

Oh, I know, Zechariah, in the last chapter shows that the Feast of Tabernacles will be kept at the start of the millennium. It should be pointed out that the sacrifices will also be kept, according to Scripture.

Fast forward to the last couple of chapters of Revelation where there will be no sun or moon and Feasts simply could not be kept because there are no celestual markers to measure when they would be (the irony here is that there will be 12 kinds of fruit trees bearing fruit according to the month -- wait! what?). Since (in theory) human beings will no longer exist, keeping the Feasts forever throughout your generations has an empty ring -- and it may not have related to the Gentiles.

Enter the Apostle Paul into the fray, screwing everything up for everybody -- Feast keepers and non Feast keepers alike. It's obvious that he kept the Feast, although it isn't obvious whether or not his thinking ever got past the Lord's Supper and the Days of Unleavened Bread. He may have observed the Day of Atonement. Did he? Didn't he? Maybe. Nevertheless, he does mention "The Last Trump" when Christ will return.

Oh, but here's a good one: The ACoGs question that. They think maybe Jesus is coming back on Pentecost for a near miss and rapture the saints away for another year until he comes back for real. Too funny! You probably haven't heard these theories, since they seem to have started with James Russell and have been pursued by Art Braidic, but if you want to clinically analyze the Bible and then map it to future events, you have lots and lots and lots of marvelous problems. These guys are trying to work them out, but seem mystified, even if they do fast once a week on Thursdays.

You know, some people seem to think I'm so extreme and "out there" with radical statements, but if you do some digging, you will find that they are actually true. It's just that, the Armstrongists are beyond belief. No really: The Armstrongists are beyond belief!

  15. Ya gotta luv those contradictions, and ya gotta luv those "translators" through the ages, for the book of "Revelation".
