Herbert Armstrong's Tangled Web of Corrupt Leaders

Will False Prophet Rod Meredith Retire Like Failed Prophet Harold Camping?

Dr. Bob is ripping Harold Camping a new one today for all of his recent failed prophecies.  He is also nailing Ron Weinlend for his stupid failed prophecies.  But the question still needs to be asked.  What about Rod Meredith's hundreds of failed prophecies?  What about Gerald Waterhouse's failed prophecies?  What about Richard Ame's failed prophecies?  What about Herbert Armstrong's failed prophecies?  Why is Prophet Thiel silent on all of them?  Rod Meredith is just a big a liar as Ron Weinland and Harold Camping is. So what is the difference?

According to certain, but not completely confirmed, news reports, false prophet Harold Camping has retired:

Harold Camping worst prophet ever: Camping retires, and Family Radio removes doomsday warnings from its website–finally…

October 21st has come and gone with no Rapture, which makes it a total Doomsday Fail.   Family Radio perhaps is getting the idea–they’ve removed doomsday warnings from their website after having them up for the last five months–perhaps for good.  http://www.goddiscussion.com/83473/harold-camping-worst-prophet-ever-camping-retires-and-family-radio-removes-doomsday-warnings-from-its-website-finally/
 Thiel goes on to write:

While I am not sure that Harold Camping is any worse than former UCG minister and self-appointed prophet/apostle/one-of-the-two-witnesses Ronald Weinland of CGPFK, the reality is that less people have thus far paid less attention to Ronald Weinland, even though he has made several false prophecies and has his last date for Jesus to return on May 27, 2012.  Yet it is certain that Jesus will not return for many years.
LCG has been predicting that the end will come in 3-5 years for ages now.  It was even throwing around 2014.  Have they now stopped doing this?  I doubt it.  They may not publicly be saying it, but you had better believe the die-hards still do!

Thiel talks about Ron Weinland (Weinerdude) who has declared that on May 27, 2012 is the date Jesus is returning.

Now, I am sure that Ronald Weinland will conclude that I am one who does not understand.  But Jesus is NOT going to return on May 27, 2012. And instead of having the physically required signs of the Great Tribulation or even those that the Bible requires from the two witnesses, he seems to claim that his odd interpretation of certain prophetic matters is “a very powerful, awesome sign“.  I say this is nonsense.

Ronald Weinland should announce his retirement from the ministry no late than May 28, 2012 if he has any semblance to decency as he will again be proven wrong, just like Harold Camping (Of course, if he takes up an offering on May 27, 2012, this should give his followers pause as according to his predictions he would have no ability to spend any of it–unless his prediction is wrong, which it is).
So the question needs to be asked again, what about Rod Meredith? Shouldn't his followers have paused after all these years to recognize that Rod's predictions have all failed too?

I do not consider that Harold Camping is a real Christian and he has repeatedly proven to be a false prophet.  The world did not end in 1994, there was no “rapture of the Church” in May 2011, and no one should base their life on following the dates of Harold Camping or Ronald Weinland.  They, and other false prophets, have caused the way of truth to be blasphemed. Sadly, people have spent a lot of money to promote something that will cause the way of truth will be blasphemed by some.
I do not consider Rod Meredith to be a real Christian either and he certainly is a proven false prophet. The world did not end in 1972/75 when Rod was proclaiming it would.  No LCG member or any COG member should be basing their life on the failed prophecies of any of the cult leaders.  They are all proven liars.  Hundreds of thousands of COG members have spent millions of dollars over  the years funding these liars as they blaspheme God.

Again, I have to ask?  Why is Rod Meredith never held to these same high standards?

  1. It is foolish to draw too close a parallel between Harold Camping and Rod Meredith. Here's why.

By all accounts, from all I have read about Camping, he is personally a man of great integrity and personal honesty. If he promises to give you a dollar, he will give you a dollar. If he tells you he will officiate at your wedding, he will officiate at your wedding. Regarding matters under his control, Harold Camping is a man of his word.

Rod Meredith, on the other hand, will promise to hire a man, then will break the promise after that man has resigned from his prior job. He will promise to meet with a widow, even make an appointment with her, and then fail to show up, deciding he has something better to do. He will flatter an unstable member who happens to give big tithes and offerings, but will ridicule the big tither in front of other LCG ministers. Harold Camping is a religious zealot, but Rod Meredith is a psychopath.

No, there is no comparison between Harold Camping and Rod Meredith, except that neither man understands Bible prophecy. Other than that one small thing they have in common, Harold Camping is a hundred times the man Rod Meredith will ever be.

  2. You know, when Dixon Cartright cancelled the ad for DNArefutesBI.com, he protested the use of narcissist, sociopath, psychopath and nut job to describe leaders of the Armstrongist Churches of God.

It's interesting that folks here would disagree with his assessment.

    Not to worry.

I'm putting his response in "Misery of the Ages" and examining his answers as to the cancellation point by point, beginning with Wade Cox.

But Banned has raised the bar and it certainly looks as though Roderick Meredith should be in the book response as well.

  3. Mr. Meredith is the living head of God's work. Mock him all you want but that does not change that fact. God has worked many miracles through Mr. Meredith over the years and continues to do so. He is a humble servant of God just as Mr. Ames is.

  4. I thought Camp suffered a somewhat serious stroke- at least more than the "micro" stroke Meredith suffered a few years ago. Anyway, Thiel sure seems like a narcissistic bully and hypocrite.

  5. Anonymous @6:46,

Yes, Meredith is the living head and I suppose Herbert W. Armstrong is the dead one?

I think most accounts Meredith is anything but humble and Armstrong pointed this out in his well known letter to him-amongst other things.
His record indeed has shown him to be a harsh taskmaster.

Oh, please do enlighten us... specifically -- with proof of two or three witnesses of widely acknowledge integrity outside of LCG.

In the meantime, we can agree that Roderick Meredith has performed many miracles, like staying at the top of an organization after he has lied and betrayed everyone, made false prophecies totally ignored by his followers, be totally wrong about the United States and British Commonwealth and have Dixon Cartright defend him, though he knows what a fraud the man is, that he can abuse so many people and not get successfully sued.

    Yes, miracles indeed.

But not by God -- merely a god: A god of this world.

But it's always nice to hear from idolaters from time to time so we can mock them.

  7. Mr. Meredith was sent away from Pasadena by Mr. Armstrong because deceitful men were lying to him about Mr. Meredith. It was not his fault he was sent away.

Mr. Meredith humbly went away and asked God to show him where he was wrong. Mr. Armstrong welcomed him back as a true son he never had.

Mr. Ted Armstrong was always jealous of Mr. Meredith's closeness with his father. Mr. Meredith's troubles were all initiated by Mr. Ted Armstrong.

Because of Mr. Ted Armstrong's lies, he was punished by God and paid the price with his life.

Mr. Meredith still has a mighty work to do proclaiming the truth to the world.

Do the "miracles" include how Mr. Meredith laughed about his wife's cancer, calling it only a "skin condition" and that she died from it?

Maybe that should be part of a video all LCGers are forced to watch this Sabbath.

That's something Rod should be able to watch, because he had eye surgery.

However, many former LCGers who didn't have surgery because of Mr. Meredith's teachings won't be able to hear such a Sabbath message, because they died due to Mr. Meredith's teachings.

Nonsense. For those who have lived through this, reading and listening to Roderick Meredith's false prophecies and knowing of his harsh abuse of members, we all know this is totally a lie: Herbert Armstrong realized the truth and you go read Herbert Armstrong's letter for yourself.

Now, Anonymous, here's a challenge: Go to that old charlatan and tell him that we will all accept that he is genuine if he resurrects Herbert Armstrong to full functioning to carry on the so-called Work and Roderick Meredith submit to him and support him in every way.

It's a trick question: The miracle is not for Roderick Meredith to resurrect Herbert Armstrong from the dead -- it's the part about submitting and supporting him.

Just imagine the two narcissists who have become used to having power over church people at a time when the original "End Time Apostle" returns and the "End Time Evangelist" has to do what he says.

I say that is a miracle you will never experience.

So until you offer this real proof, we just aren't going to listen (you thought you'd just get away with it by throwing words at us). WE DEMAND PROOF!

And even then... well, we've learned from Scripture that miracles can be worked by those using the Power of Satan the Devil.

We're going to be awfully suspicious, because it is obvious, Roderick Meredith is his father's son.

I am so sorry, NO2HWA: You asked this question and did such great research while presenting the material well -- but none of us really answered the question.

    I correct that oversight now:

    The answer is "No!"

    He'd die before he'd retire!

  11. Anon - all I can say is thank you for reminding me why I left the church and why I cannot visit one to this day. There were too many like you in Pasadena who still think they are being loyal to the "faith once delivered." It's depressing being around your ilk.

Douglas, he may have to turn that down because of the risk to The Journal of slander etc. Even the author of Malignant Self Love, Sam Vadkin will not commit to answering the question of "Do you think ________ is a narcissist" without saying he could not say without extensive medical and psychological testing.

    Just a thought.

RCM, IMHO , was in complete denial over Cheryl's cancer. He sat at my dinner table one evening crying his eyes out over her loss and the shock of it all to him.

I and former wife went through the same process when we finally had to admit to a ten lb ovarian tumor removed just before it would have burst and killed her. It took a church member,s suspicion to wake us up. We were young.

  14. I wonder if Bob Thiel could do some homework and admit that the Apostle Paul was also a false prophet in his predictions of "we who are alive and remain...' ending up as "I have fought a good fight...therefore is laid up for ME..." ?

    nah...

  15. Dennis, not to worry: We have proof at least one specific ACoG leader is a psychopath because he was declared to be one by a military psychiatrist.

    No wiggle room there.

And yes, I am well aware... after all, I was threatened with a lawsuit by said psychopath.

    I WIN!

  16. Ah, folks, don't you see: Anonymous actually said (if you analyze it) that God did not reveal to Herbert Armstrong that people were lying about Roderick Meredith!

    Oh, my!

The god of Herbert Armstrong and Roderick Meredith is incapable of revealing the truth? What kind of god is that? Not being able to protect his own?

    Or....

    Herbert Armstrong knew the truth.

Either way, Roderick Meredith came out like the south end of a north borne horse.

What does that Scripture say? You know the one... "God resists the proud". Seems like He's mighty resistant all the way around on this one.

  17. Well, the work is being done around the world, but not by these little invisible ACOGs who are smaller than your typical community megachurch.

Tens of thousands of disciples are being mentored to and trained in countries specifically identified as never having heard the name of Jesus Christ, let alone the gospel. Bibles are being subversively smuggled into communist countries. Christians are disrupting the sex-slave trade around the world and digging fresh water wells for children over in Africa. This, as all the little ACOGs slander one another, splinter over the least little difference, all the while they brag about being the one true church, and who is an apostle, prophet, or third in charge. It is pathetic.

The Armstrong movement never was anything other than a unique slant on Christianity based on HWA's personal theories and opinions. Unfortunately, such disinformation is a lock in the movement because his followers regard him as an apostle. Therefore, they are not able to correct the errors which become more and more obvious as time goes on.

  18. Mr. Armstrong WAS an Apostle of the Almighty God! Those who mock that truth will pay dearly in the future when God marks this country for destruction.

Mr. Meredith now carries on that mantle is is not afraid to speak boldly what he knows to be false teachings.

There are no Christians in mainline churches. They are just pawns of Satan setting about doing the works of the evil one.

God's TRUE children know that all things rest in God's hands and we do not need to worry about tragedies around the world or in this country. People suffer because they are sinners and doomed to destruction.

  19. Anonymous 1:35, are you some kind of spiritual anus, or something? I don't know whether you realize this or not, but you are excreting spiritual waste matter all over our blog!

Of course you could also be some sort of cyber character or troll. The devil's deceiving emissaries do take many forms.

I pray, daily, for those who have been seemingly hopelessly warped by the cult, and those who are still stuck in the Armstrong deception. With God, all things are possible, so there is still hope for you!

  21. Mr. Armstrong WAS an Apostle of the Almighty God!

    When, exactly? The 1930s?

If he ever were, it fled him by middle age. Of course, the Ockham's Razor explanation is that he never was.

  22. Oh no - Family Radio has posted a new audio message from Harold Camping this weekend, in which he says "other language in the Bible" has to be reviewed which "may impinge" on the end-of-days issue.

While he warns against not "dictating to God what He should do," he says supporters should NOT conclude God has abandoned them. Hmmm....

In a prior audio message from late September, Mr. Camping certainly talked like he was making a farewell address. He said his "work was done," and others would take over from there. "Good bye," he said at the end.

  23. Roderick Meredith is not a prophet. I had some family members try to convert me to his beliefs all you felt in the room was the devil. It was so strong, I had to leave the room. They left his books behind. My husband burned them. I don't want those lies in my house. I have been saved since I was 15, and I have attended church for almost all my life. I'm glad I am a strong Christian, and I knew when a cult was brought before me. They tried to twist the bible with lies. The wouldn't read the bible is a whole. This group has taking certain verses and twisted them to fit their beliefs. People run from this churches beliefs. They are a lie straight from the devil.
