Growing Up In Armstrongism
Benjamin Grant Mitchell discuss life growing up in Armstrongism:
I've seen this guy's website. He was out by 10? Yeah, he doesn't get it. I call publicity stunt. Good on 'im, though, as they say down unda'. Maybe those of us who were actually affected by the cult can find a way to cash in as well. I think that would be more appropriate than a book deal for someone whose parents (not him) came to their senses before he was even a teenager.
Thanks very much for putting this link up to my recent TV interview about my novel based on my family's experience. Being born into WC of G, being disciplined under the strict authoritarian HWA-set guidelines and living in an atmosphere of constant fear (re: 1975 and ambiguous apocalyptic prophecy claims) had a big impact on my childhood and subsequent adult world view.
I'm not sure what has upset Casey so much? Perhaps how I down-played the 'victim' angle in the interview? What I do know is this is not the first time someone has expressed a 'I was affected worse than him' type sentiment. To such people I say I empathize with you but wonder how you can be so sure how others have been affected?
And as for finding a way to 'cash in' as well? Anyone can read a free snippet at Amazon (of the eBook version) before deciding if they feel my novel is worthy of a $9.99 investment. I waited 30 years before spending 3 years writing full-time and feel it certainly is.
If you'd like the paperback version it is available internationally from my website).
