The People Don't Know Their True Power

If only Church of God members could take this to heart!
They do not realize the power they have.
When their bloviating minister or evangelist is standing up there spitting at them
they should remember there is a  door behind them!

  1. That tempting thought crossed my mind more than once over the course of my 13 years with the WCG. But I was too fearful to exercise that very simple right.

  2. If only I had the good sense to do that in the late 70's!

  3. Voting with one's feet is the best way to get the attention of a COG Pastor. As long as the crowd seems to be getting larger over time and no one speaks up, questions or challenges the minister's views that really affect the lives of real people, he will grow bolder.

Dave Pack won't be building any money pit HQ if those who actually will pay for it speak up and collectively say "we can't afford this." If that happened, you can bet "God" would inspire him to do as he was allowed not as he demanded.

Anytime a COG congregation has the pastor announce for the first time to them some big plan that is a foregone conclusion, that will come out of their tithe, their hard work, their family budgets etc... they need to speak up or put their shoes on and walk.

Even a well trained minister in the churches around my town who tried to just declare he was building an addition to the building would find himself out of work.

IMHO Personality driven churches are doomed to fail when the personality fails...

  4. I actually started getting up and walking out during several sermons by certain minsters. I did not need to listen to some self righteous jackass up there shouting at me when their lives were pathetic messes. The trouble is I should have walked out of the chruch entirely years before I did.
