Herbert Armstrong's Tangled Web of Corrupt Leaders

Apostle Malm: It is Disrespectful For Women To Ask Questions In Church

Women in the Church of Malm are currently being relegated to subservient levels of servitude.  The husband is lord and master of the manor and women are to follow the mans instructions without question.

Apostle Malm also says that women are never to ask questions in church.  It is disrespectful of the lord masters authority.

After spending over 40 years in the screwed up cult of Armstrongism where questioning was never allowed, I have made it a policy of telling those that I have in newcomers class at the church I am at now, that they are free to question.  Just because the preacher says something does not mean they have to agree with it.  He knows I do it too.  I tell them to question the doctrines they grew up with and teaching of churches they have come from. I let them know it is OK to question the Bible and not to take it as 100% literal.  The Bible is filled with stories, metaphors, allegories and myths.  It doesn't mean they don't have truth and meaning, but it also does not mean that it all had to literally happen. I also tell them that when they walk through the door of the church they do not need to check their brain.

The idea that women cannot speak in a church setting, ask questions, talk about God, question God, doctrine, and belief in a church setting  is appalling and ignorant.  What does Apostle Malm think the women in the New Testament era did?  They spoke out, they raised money, they paid for the spread of the gospel and even spread it themselves all without a man at their side.  It wasn't a group of grumpy Malmite men that went to the tomb of Jesus, it was women.  Women were the first to proclaim Jesus was no longer in the tomb.

Anyway, here is the apostle's directive for subservient Malmite women:

An acolyte asks:

Can a women pray and prophesy in church if she is wearing a head covering?

The apostle responds:

A woman is not to speak [as a teacher of the men, or in prayer when a man is present] in the assembly, due to the fact that doing so would be disrespectful of the man as the head of the woman. She is not even to ask a question without going to her husband first.
This is a matter of example and public discretion.

In the privacy of their own home, a woman should definitely discuss the scriptures with her parents and mate.

She may pray privately at any time, but should not lead in prayer, if her father or husband is present; the men need to learn to take the lead.
Husbands should always listen to their wives and take their advice very seriously making their wives their CHIEF advisor and confidant at all times.

More will be coming as I get into 2 Cor, Tim, Titus Peter ect. James

Then the apostle wants to reinforce his demand that subservient Malmite women wear hats in church.

An acolyte asks:

Are you saying women need to cover their heads in church? Would that be a hat, a veil, a handkerchief or what? Is not her husband her covering?
So, if a women wears a hat can she pray and prophesy in public?
As far as men having their heads covered, I understood this was a cultural situation where taking off their hats was a sign of respect.

The apostle responds
Anything modest; some hats are designed to be great attention grabbers and are anything but modest. Just use some judgment. James
and with this:

Another acolyte asks:
The covering that Paul is talking about, for a woman, is her hair not a hat.

The apostle responds:

That is just another HWA erroneous tradition: I ask you why is she to be shorn if she refuses to wear her hair then?

The HWA hair thing makes no sense either in the language of 1 Cor or in the context; which is that BOTH male and female Jews covered their heads with a prayer shawl.

Paul was simply explaining that men need not do so, but women should continue to do so. James
Great will be the day when these jackasses can no longer preach their message of legalistic bullshit.

  1. siddoen 13It is stupidity to take ancient cultural notes from the bible and enforce it as sharia law today. Maybe it was a good idea within the context of that culture, but it doesn't make it universally a good idea.

  3. Timothy 2: 11 A woman[a] should learn in quietness and full submission. 12 I do not permit a woman to teach or to assume authority over a man;[b] she must be quiet. 13 For Adam was formed first, then Eve.

However, since the story of Adam and Eve is not literally true and is retold and repackaged mythology , one cannot make literal rules based on non literal events. Also, the woman was not really first deceived and not the male Adam.

" A man ought not to cover his head, since he is the image and glory of God; but woman is the glory of man. For man did not come from woman, but woman from man; neither was man created for woman, but woman for man."[1 Cor. 11:3–9]"

Men in that culture were the sun and women were the moon. Men shone of themselves. Women only gave light reflected from the man. Women did not and do not really come from men (rib)as all human fetus' are first female, then become male as conceived. It's why men have nipples. Female is the template.

So women don't really come from men and weren't really just created for them.

Rules based on myth are mythological and Bronze age rules.

Once the fact of human evolution sinks in, the controling ideas of the magisterium fall apart.

  4. I don't think they hate women, I think they are afraid of them.

Sexism, Racism, and what ever ism you care to add, come from the premise, "I need to feel like what I am is better than what you are. Now I will back it up with my so-called facts"

They know that any woman who has even partly realized who she is would laugh and hold them in contempt for the pitiful excuse of a human being they are. Note I said "human being" not "man" because I don't think they are men. Real men aren't still trying to find ways to put mommy in her place.

  5. Ladies, it is hoped that as you go forth in your busy job as a realtor, congressman, Director of HR, CEO of a Fortune 500 company directing tens of thousands of men working under you, driving truck, working in the oil fields, fighting fires or wearing a badge and taking down scofflaws, you will reserve some time to ask questions in private of your husband.

"Honey, did you make reservations at that five star restaurant yet? And did you get your Tux out so I can introduce you to the members of the board at dinner?"

  6. To insure domestic tranquility: Other questions women may ask in the sanctity of marriage in their own home

"Honey, can you take out the garbage? Sweetie, will you mow the lawn today? Dear, could you put up the storm windows some time soon? My love, the children were bad today, could you talk to them?

"Does this make me look fat?"

  7. Biblical Questions

"Just how is it the men who wrote the Bible lost the text to the 'Proverbs 32 Husband'?"

"How is it that I am the weaker vessel?", she asked after she had just won the regional powerlifting contest.

"If he knew so much, why didn't Adam speak up?!?!!"

"Are they the lost tribes of Israel because the guys wouldn't stop and ask for directions?"

"Are you prepared to be the Bride of Christ?"

  9. Simple litmus test:

Essentially, what the COGers are saying is that all women have to do is acknowledge the special calling of Herbert Armstrong and therefore acquiesce to the wisdom and dictates of HWA and whichever various disciple they happen to be following right now -- Malm, Pack, Flurry, Meredith, etc.

How's that worked out for you, ladies?

The bigger picture is that the problem resides NOT in the various goofball ministers that enforce it, but in the text itself that demands it. On this topic, the Bible is clear. Baptists around here enforce this in the very same way big time upon the women of their churches. This is a cultural issues that Western Ministers simply do not know how to administer or if they should.

The book says what it says on all these women vs men topics. They are not all that ambiguous. The Bible is an Eastern Cultic Bronze and Roman age book. It's rules are based on what today we call ignorance.

Back then cultic YHVH could ask if Job knew where snow came from as if he'd never be able to know. Today we simply say "sure, we know exactly where snow comes from."

The Book is the first problem. The use of it is secondary.

  11. Christians in the USA are the worst kind of Christians, and, generally, a fairly stupid lot.

To paraphrase Byker Bob, their "lives totally suck pig-dick!"

It must suck to be a Southern Baptist looking for mate, unless you have the 'perfume' of genuine racism to draw another racist to yourself.

  12. Putting ancient writings by superstitious and basically ignorant people on a pedestal is the problem. Today, anyone who claims a god appeared or spoke to him is usually recognized as a candidate for the looney bin. Those places are full of them and the vast bulk of them are ignored.

Not so for a concocted Moses, paul, Abraham, etc. Oh, and don't forget the infallibility of any inanity that proceeded from the mouth of HWA or his proteges like Meredith, Malm, etc. as far as many starry-eyed, befuddled ACOG members are concerned.

Now, where did I leave that old book. Oh, yeah, there it is on the shelf all covered with the dust it deserves. If I didn't need to refer to it from time to time to debunk the stupid thing, I'd dig a hole and bury it.

  13. Paraphrase Byker Bob? Several months ago, or possibly even a year, I provided a retrospective review of approximately three decades of my life: That life without God, without Jesus Christ, sucks! I believe that statement to be 100% accurate based on comparative analyses of my own personal experiences.

Anonymous has added a bit of unclean meat, and a colloquialism to my statement. Just to keep the record straight out there, in my own original statement, I never referred specifically to the pediculatory organ of either an animal or another human. What I'm trying to say here is that what anonymous calls paraphrasing, I consider profaning.

  14. The story of Adam and Eve has language ( in the Hebrew) is like the language that is shown in the story of Cain. They are parallel in Hebrew really.
If you do bad, then watch out, sin is at the door.
Same with Eve, she is told if she wont let God rule her, then there is Adam at the door waiting to lord it over her. She has a choice.
    She makes the wrong one.
