UCG's Melvin Rhodes Resigns Because of "Unchristian Behavior"

November 1, 2012

Dear Fellow Elders and Employees,

It is with deep regret that we must make the following announcement to you.

Dennis Luker, president, received a letter on Friday, October 26, that made a charge of unchristian behavior against Melvin Rhodes. Immediately an investigation was initiated according to established Church policy and a meeting was set up with Mr. Rhodes regarding the matter.

After meeting with senior Church administrators, Mr. Rhodes admitted that unchristian behavior had taken place a number of years ago, and voluntarily resigned from the Council of Elders. The Council was immediately informed by the administration, and directed that Church administrators request Mr. Rhodes also submit his resignation as an elder and employee of the Church. Mr. Rhodes voluntarily agreed to do this and is presently in full cooperation with the Council’s directive.

The Council and administration will continue to examine all information in relation to Mr. Rhodes’ past conduct. If further action is warranted, the Council and administration will take whatever steps are needed.

Roc Corbett was next in line for the Council and has been seated. A new Council chairman will be selected as soon as possible.

We ask your prayers for Melvin, his family and all concerned.

Sincerely,
Dennis Luker

  1. If UCG leaders are to resign because of "Unchristian Behavior" they had best all submit their resignations now.

  2. "Unchristian Behavior"

That is the ONLY type of behavior in the UCG, from top to bottom.

  3. I wonder how long this information was used to blackmail him, and if the reason why this was "leaked" now is because he refused to be blackmailed any longer.

  4. "unchristian behavior"???

Like what exactly? Can they be a little more specific please? Since the history of Armstrongism has been a litany of sexual infidelity upon financial corruption and over again what do they mean exactly by the PC term, "unchristian behavior"?

  5. The entire fiasco of the "disuniting" of "United" which caused the split a couple years ago was ENTIRELY "ministers" exhibiting publicly (without shame, embarrassment, or recognition) a 9-month long spree of "Unchristian Behavior". They're all guilty of "Unchristian Behavior" and they and their followers are the only ones who can't see it or won't admit to it.

  6. I'm gonna miss Rhodes and his articles in the GN (and former WNP). His articles looking at the historical causes of present problems in America, Europe, the Middle East, etc. were pretty much the only articles I read from the mag. I can only but wish him well. Here's one fan who'll miss his work.

  8. Let's see...

Peter denies Jesus and doesn't hang himself like Judas who "betrayed him", and Peter gets the keys to the Kingdom.

Jesus, in unaccepted Gospels, kisses Mary too many times on the lips and the disciples complain.

"Interest in Mary Magdalene grew following the discovery of the Nag Hammadi Gnostic Gospels in 1945. The Gospel of Philip explicitly said Jesus kissed Mary Magdalene in the mouth, making the disciples jealous of her. Other gospels in the Nag Hammadi texts also spoke of the intimate relationship between her and Jesus, even referring to her as his "beloved."

Jesus gave special Kingdom of God lessons to a young man all night.

""...the young man, looking at Jesus, loved him and began to beseech him that he might be with him...they went into the house of the young man, for he was rich. And the young man, looking at Jesus, loved him...and after six days Jesus gave him an order; and when the evening had come, the young man went to him, dressed with a linen cloth over his naked body. And he remained with him that night, because Jesus taught him the mystery of the kingdom of God."(Secret Gospel of Mark)."

Saul/Paul made nice Christians damn Christ or die so they say...and he gets to be Chief Apostle and Bible writer.

Peter kills two well meaning Church members for not turning over all their money.

Revelation God and Jesus get to knock off most of the planet and yet still get to be one True God and Son Jesus.

    What's UCG's problem?

  9. There certainly seems to be a dearth of principled men of integrity with high moral character these days.
