False Prophet Thiel: Unconverted Spokesmen Club Men IGNORED My Speech Against Football

What an absolutely brilliant day to be an inappropriate male!  The sky is a brilliant blue with white wispy clouds.  It’s a pleasant 75 degrees here in Southern California with a slight breeze.  Anticipation is in the air for the big game.  Traffic is light on the freeways and last minute shoppers are out getting snacks and food.  BBQ grills are going all over the place.

Now compare that to the dour holier than thou attitude coming from false prophet Robert Thiel.  He started his postings off today with this:

Today is known as “Super Bowl Sunday” in the USA. Most years, the American football (which is not the same as the sport called soccer in the USA) contest known as the Super Bowl is the most watched television program in the USA. Between 100,000,000-200,000,000 are expected to intentionally (as opposed to perhaps seeing a news item about it) watch at least some of it today according to various reports.

Ok, that’s not so bad.  Then he dumps this holier than thou comment on people.  Remember now, God’s ONLY true Christians are now followers of Robert Thiel and who keep all the laws, rules and regulations of the supposedly original church.

Since many people in the USA have, at one time or another, made some hint of professing following Jesus, a relevant question may be:

Should Christians watch the Super Bowl?

According to the false prophet, John the Baptist spoke out against American football:

Also, notice what John the Baptist taught soldiers:
14 And the soldiers likewise demanded of him, saying, And what shall we do? And he said unto them, Do violence to no man, neither accuse any falsely; and be content with your wages. (Luke 3:14, KJV)
I could not reconcile loving my neighbor as myself and cherishing my flesh and not doing violence to any man by watching others do it in a football game. Nor the following:
9…You shall love your neighbor as yourself.” 10 Love does no harm to a neighbor; therefore love is the fulfillment of the law. (Romans 13:9-10, NKJV)
The Super Bowl will do harm to participants in it.  Even if played according to all of its rules, American tackle football is evil because it actually physically harms many its participants...

The false prophet then has to tell us how those unconverted inappropriate males in his Spokesmen Club IGNORED his speech against football.  These pretend Christians that ridiculed him are bottom feeders of the Church because they had also refused to listen to God’s greatest man, Herbert W Armstrong who was also ticked off at football and all competitive sports.  I remember that time in Herb’s life.  He was ticked off about everything and everyone!  Anything that people liked, he was pissed at.  Since his life was at that time a miserable failure there was no reason anyone else should have any fun.

I once gave a speech at the old WCG Spokesman’s Club opposing football and watching the then upcoming Super Bowl game. Sadly, it was not well received. While some who claim to be Christians try to justify watching American football, they should realize that the 1980 comments by Herbert Armstrong were made mainly in response to how he saw supposed Christians playing and viewing sports that, of themselves, he did not oppose.  He then took his criticisms of competitive sports to the next level, and did not just condemn the improper competitive attitudes of sports participants/fans, but the violent sports themselves.

Next the false prophet makes another personal attack against Rod Meredith and the rest of the COG leaders.  Only Continuing Church of God, who is filled with only appropriate males, and is the only group that is boldly preaching against football.

BTW, the COG that has come out since HWA’s comments with the clearest statements condemning American tackle football is the Continuing Church of God. Most others, with a USA presence, either directly or indirectly endorse it or will not condemn it (could cost them supporters and donors). But should not Philadelphian Christians condemn truly violent acts against others?

Instead of feeding the poor, clothing the homeless and being real Christians, false prophet Thiel is worried about a football game.  Spitting and snarling at those who watching does NOT represent the god the claims to follow.  All he is doing is heaping ridicule and mockery upon himself and his little personality cult.  He has become the laughingstock of the broader Church of God.  If false prophet Thiel really wants people to sit up and take notice of him and his little group then why don’t they get out there and feed the homeless and the poor?  Why don’t they work in the soup kitchen in Arroyo Grande? All false prophet Thiel is doing is making and ass of himself and the god he claims to follow.

  1. Thiel seems to be one of those folk who can't seem to see the difference between his opinion, personal preferences, personal accountability and knowing the mind of God on all things.

Everything Thiel comments on from he significance, to him, of world news to this petty rant on football is merely his opinion.

Thiel's sermons need to begin with..." The opinions expressed by the following program are not necessarily those of the Deity, Associates of the Deity, the Heavenly Hosts or the management of this station."

But then again, much of the NT reflects the opinions of a very few men as well and didn't necessarily flow from near as high up as even they may have suspected.

  2. Have some sympathy for Thiel.

He believes God used Rod Meredith to save the church from the Tkach apostasy.

He then heard Rod Meredith encourage him in the idea that he is a prophet.

He then heard Rod Meredith disavow his prophethood.

How to reconcile all of this? There are really only two options Thiel can embrace:

    1. God wasn't using Rod Meredith to start Global and LCG, which means Thiel's decade of pro-LCG polemics were the false writings of a deluded fanatic, and Thiel wasn't in the One True Church™ after all.

    2. Just as God used Rod Meredith to lead the true remnant out of WCG, so too has God used Prophet Bob to lead the true remnant out of LCG.

Prophet Bob has done a great job of documenting the falsity of all the other non-LCG ACOGs. For him to embrace #1 is thus to admit that ALL the ACOGs are false, and he might as well join the Greek Orthodox Church.

If there's a positive spin on any of this, it's that he has burned all his ACOG bridges. His next step is to become an anti-ACOG critic. Of course, he will have to develop some real humility to admit he was deceived, so we may have to endure quite a few more years of CCOG first.

    1. Either you are not treating your body as God's temple, or, you are bearing false witness with the coarse joking. Modern gladiator-football should continue to be supressed by those such as Dr. Thiel. And the soup kitchens have some fellas eating there who only need an alarm clock & a toothbrush to begin their journey in the world of work.

  4. Not a word from Thiel about the fact they're running around throwing and kicking a PIG-skin?

  5. Poor Bob Thiel. He can't distinguish between the archaic usage of "violence" in King James' English and the modern, more narrow usage. You really can't expect an uneducated person like Bob Thiel to realize that the bible was translated from Hebrew and Greek words, into a form of English that was obsolete already in 1611. And then to boot, it was written to grind a peculiarly Anglican axe. All of this means that as nice as it seems, it isn't always as accurate to the original texts as one might hope. That's a lot of complexity and uncertainty for a little mind like his to have to wrap around. Bob is used to dealing in terms of stereotypes and formulas to make the world simple enough for him to cope with.

When it comes to football, these guys are getting paid millions of dollars every year in exchange for their physical health, and they think that, not only is the exchange worth it, but they're having a hell of a time doing it! Fame, fortune, and groupies: what more could a red-blooded male ask for? Better to live fast and die young than never to have lived at all (like Bob Thiel).

  6. Ok, so now you'll know the Philadelphians because they don't watch football? Well, shoot, I've been one my whole life and didn't know it. Maybe I'm the other of the two witnesses...

    Thiel who?

  8. I usually don't spend time watching the Super Bowl but I made sure this year to watch every single minute of it. When a jackass COG minister says not to do it, you can be guaranteed I will.

  10. "Herbert W Armstrong who was also ticked off at football and all competitive sports"

I may be misremembering this, but I am almost certain that one of the Feast transmissions from the 1980s had Armstrong speaking positively about competitive sports...not to mention all the basketball and hockey that was played in the YOU, at least north of the 49th parallel.....

I think I can make a pretty good prediction.

Probably words like, oh say, Offensive, vulgar, distasteful, inappropriate, immoral, repugnant, reprehensible, worldly, carnal, secular, incorrigible, disrespectful, revealing, Sodom/Gomorrah, you get the idea.

Never mind one particular COG minister used to run around in a speedo, so I hear.
