Dave Pack is having some financial issues lately. With a rapid building program and the hiring of an international known golf course designer, and the purchase of all new office and building furniture, money is flying out the window. He has demanded members cash in their retirement programs, sell their stocks and investments, mortgage their homes and businesses, etc. and give all their money to him. He is so desperate for money that he forces those that leave him their money in wills to turn it over immediately. He does not want to have to wait for probate and other issues to get their money. He wants it NOW!
Now in another desperate greedy grab for cash he is demanding that church members start collecting all their loose change and send it in to HQ.

But that's not all! Visit the nickelodeon with your pocket change to see GTA pr0n and visit concessions to get your Felony Franks.
After the show, pop next door to the Holy Grill for a Manasseh sandwich. It's like a Reuben, but without the French dressing. All beer is served in your own take-home steuben crystal mug.

After the members give everything they have and have nothing left with Davey demanding more, they may realize that their survival depends upon leaving his cult -- especially when they find that all things continue as they have and the promised end time is not coming to a close.

If this is really true then why isn't he arrested for perpetrating a scam and stealing? People have gone to jail for far less.

I'd say this is going to taint whatever gospel message he claims to be getting out.
ReplyDeleteHere is the basic problem: Armstrongism preaches a gospel that, if believed, backs people into a corner, after which they have no choice, because they are trapped. Rather than providing or enhancing a spiritual experience based on a loving relationship with God, it sets up a conflict where this type of intrusive and demanding activity causes members to feel false resentment towards God, but then to pray their butts off for forgiveness and a better attitude. If they don't respond to Dave, and cash in their retirement funds, get the equity out of their homes, or turn over the moneys covered by their will, they will feel guilty, or almost like Ananias and Saphira.
One of the problems I always had with WCG was that most of the ministers seemed to be just absolute flamers, people who if the church hadn't put you together with them, and you still had free choice you just wouldn't want to have anything to do with them. They didn't always start out as flamers, but were encouraged by the doctrines and the system to work hard at it. Dave Pack is perhaps one of the strongest examples of this type of personality. In a spiritually metaphoric sense, what is a wolf? It's a spiritual predator!

PCG has a loose change building fund jar in our congregation. It's stuffed with 20 dollar bills every week, and it's the older woman emptying their purses (they seem happy to stuff it mind you. Why not give it to your grand kids or something? Seriously!). I've even noticed one lady making an effort for everyone to see her stuffing her money in there. I have yet to make a building fund donation and I plan on keeping it that way.
ReplyDeleteI think we may be seeing the beginning of the end for him here. When you get down to begging for change, you're getting rather desperate. Can't happen fast enough for the good of all those poor exploited people.

Well it's nice to see a tacit acknowledgement of something I wondered even as a kid. The Peter of Acts, not to be mistaken for the Peter of actual Peter kills off these two low life liars in the Church because they didn't deliver. This Peter is the Peter of Paul and Luke, who they hated and this is meant to make fun of him .
Just as Ananias and Sapphira said they would do one thing (give) and did another, (held back) so this great Peter said he'd do one thing, (never leave Jesus) and did another (denied him). Don't follow Peter. Great story. Never happened thank goodness.
I see a great deal of simiilarities between Dave Pack and the Apostle Paul but don't go thinking this is a compliment.
Mr. "And I mean, $10,000, 20,000, 50,000 , 100,000 send it in.." is not interested in chump change. He knows people will stuff the bills. However, it is a lame approach and it is going to take a lot of bill stuffing to fund his folly. How many times can the brethren give it all to the work?
