Dave says:
"I want to make a statement about...me...now, if I became deceived, I will never tell you what I'm going to tell you now...I am telling you if I go off into strange ideas, misconduct, rebellion, you name it, don't follow me. I want to tell you that now, because if I start doing that I'm gonna try to get you to follow me! I'm gonna come to you and tell you it doesn't apply, it doesn't mean me, no, no, no, no, no, no, it's OK to follow me because ABCD and XY and Z. Do you understand what I'm saying? Listen to me now, when I tell you don't follow me if I go off into weird ideas, or if I get off into other things that are total absolutely unscriptural conduct, because if I do I'm gonna paint it with a different face and try to get you to follow me. Do you understand what I'm saying brethren? Please remember that, because I promise you that if I become deceived, I'll forget it, and I'll want you to forget it...And I hope you'll remember it well enough to quote it right back to me...But I'll tell you what, I'm not going anywhere."
I have tried to define what that last sentence is
really saying and finally can. Anytime you use a "BUT" after all of what
one just said, it is a wash out of all said before the "BUT." It is
projecting an awareness one has of their ability to screw up and be deceptive
which makes people feel good that you are aware of it. However, the "BUT"
cancels all preceding it so the person can go about their business and still now
do what they wish without a challenge because they said they would not be a
problem ever.
It's a false humility with no intention of actually
being something the author intends to be cautious about because they really
don't see anything THEY do as ever being able to be labeled strange or
weird.
Clever trickster.
I said: "...because they really don't see anything do as ever being able to be labeled strange or weird."
ReplyDeletewhich, sadly and of course, should have said "because they really don't see anything THEY do as ever being able to be labeled strange or weird."
I write this epiphany on the way out the door to work just to the Blogmeister as a thought. BUTT ohhhhh no....he puts it out there for all to see. lol
Off to an interview for both therapeutic massage and chiropractic assistant job. Here's hoping. If I don't get the chiropractic assistant part down right, I'll adjust....get it...adjust....never mind!
:)
fixed it
ReplyDeleteaw thanks...I didn't know mistakes could be fixed if you made them in church. I thought they could just be punished! lol
ReplyDeleteConsidering what the poor people in Pack's movement are forced to listen to week in and week out, they should call it what it is: The Re-bored Church of God.
ReplyDeleteAn appropriate double-meaning, to boot.
Dave teaches "You must be bored again...and often."
ReplyDeletePack is on Crack!

Dennis,
ReplyDeleteI can't see you in a chiro assistant job. Would immediately present you with ethical and intellectual dilemmas. Good look on finding something that suits you.

Thanks Glen, It's a combo of therapeutic massage and bodywork with some office modalities. At this stage of the game there aren't all that many options left it seems. The American Red cross just sent me a check for "retirement" they had saved for me while I worked part time for them teaching in the 90's which of course is much much more than WCG, who Jesus did a miracle for and they lost all their money, did.
ReplyDeleteDennis, you would make a great mental health counselor. There are even some modalities of mental health that integrate bodywork into the process (e.g., bioenergetics as derived from Alexander Lowen and Wilhelm Reich).
ReplyDeleteWith the advent of Obamacare it would be guaranteed income, and although perhaps not very much, still enough to live on.
