Become like a little child so we can tell you anything we want and you will believe it.
Those crazy folk at Philadelphia Church of God are always an entertaining bunch. They hate football just as much as Bob Thiel does. Bob must be wetting his pants right now in delight!
According to Six Pack and crew, church members need to start acting like little children and let more intelligent men do their thinking for them. Who knows, in the long run that person may have made a correct decision that saved your life. By being a little child you no longer have to question even worry about things. Those above you know better and will tell you want to believe and do. How can people in the PCG be this stupid that they believe drivel and allow others to tell them what to do?
Mr. Armstrong’s ruling on football shows us something much bigger. Sometimes a ruling is made that we may not totally understand at the time. Mr. Armstrong didn’t spell out exactly everything that could happen to those who played football. Probably he didn’t know all that the medical profession has discovered today. But God knew, and He warned His people out of love—God wanted to keep us safe.
Heeding those warnings has kept many of God’s people safe over the years. And maybe ignoring some has caused us problems. Christ admonishes His people to become child-like (Matthew 18:3). A well-trained child will follow his parent’s instruction immediately and as precisely as he can. They learn that they will find out the “why” later. In the case of why I shouldn’t play tackle football, now I clearly see why—33 years later. Now I See Why
Yeah, I guess David in the Bible shouldnt have been wrestling lions and bears and the like either, or practicing doing sling shots to bring down giants.
ReplyDeleteVERY DANGEROUS activities by young David, wouldnt you agree?
Next thing you know guys like Flurry and Thiel are going to mandate "flossing your teeth", "seat belt use" and limiting soda to less than 16 ounces.
First we have to put up with the "Nanny State" government, now we have to hear from the "Nanny State" Church.
All things Armstrong, based on his personal preferences is nuts. Armstrong was against country music too, and I remember him calling it , "common music" , in effect "low life".
Enough of such nonsense. Doctrine should only ever be "sola scriptura" and the rest is up to individual choice and taste.
Thank goodness Armstrong never said anything against pro-wrestling or roller derby, or Id have nothing left to watch on television!

Too late. Andrew Lochet gave a sermon many years ago admonishing soda drinking and held himself up as the example in giving it up. My ultimate favorite though was a sermonette by Bryan Weeks on vigorous towel rubbing after a shower. Something apparently Armstrong and Meredith practiced. Ummmmm....yeah.
DeleteThe article reads: "Herbert W. Armstrong was used as the end-time type of Elijah."
ReplyDeleteEither you are the end-time Elijah or you are not. You cannot be a "type" of Elijah. Nor can one say an end-time prophet "was used", if the end-times tribulation is still a future event.
But, I digress...
Why think at all, when you have god speaking thoughts aloud through GF's big mouth?
ReplyDeleteFootball is another one of those personal matters, in the category of likes and dislikes. It's not something that a Hitlerian guru should have anything to say about, or that his followers should even seriously entertain allowing him to intrude on their personal lives regarding.
ReplyDeleteKids who were fortunate enough to be involved in contact sports learn lessons that those who don't miss out on. Like, courage, facing danger, doing things safely to avoid catastrophic danger, etc. Those who are Christian, or have Christian coaches often pray that they can enjoy the competition, and that God will protect all so that there are no injuries.
Sheesh! Flurry and his ilk have no idea the wonderful influence that Tim Tebow and Kurt Warner have had on the sports culture. and on youth and family.
Racing has always been the branch of sports which captured my attention. They didn't have anything much nice to say about that, either.

Letters From Those Impacted by Philadelphia Church of God
PCG Told Me to Get Rid of My Mentally Handicapped Son With Cerebral Palsy:
June 17, 2013
I was told by a minister in PCG to "get rid of" my mentally handicapped son (who also had cerebral palsy) or don't return. He told me to put him in some facility, or if I couldn’t afford that, then take him somewhere that he would not know and abandon him in the mall or somewhere that people were. He said someone would find him and put him away, and that I was to turn and not look back, and just leave him there! I guess you can imagine just about what I told them!!
What helped me the most were people having the same objections and questions that I was having, wondering if these ministers in PCG really have the authority they say they did over us. The ministers try to make you feel you're isolated in your thinking, that you're the only one questioning anything. So you better get back under their submission, their rule--or suffer the consequences. (I decided to take the consequences). I am free and I am staying that way.
The ESN has been a Godsend. You have saved many people, including me and my family. We saw how others were questioning things, as we were, and realized things were just not right in there! Our feelings were right; we weren’t as crazy as others trying to pull us back in would have us think. They practice mind control there. All it takes is a few mentioning of buzz-words from them (i. e., "the Work," "the Church," "Mr. Flurry," etc.) and you start to question your own common sense and your sanity. Well, not anymore.
None are so blind as those who will not see. Well, now I see! Thanks for everything. God bless you. --Former PCG member
Sissyfication of the church members. Why do they care? Money!
ReplyDeleteRegarding the latest material pasted from ESN, this type of ministerial counsel is straight from Satan the devil! I would like to know what scriptures they use to support this advice! Under the Levitical dispensation, individuals who were "blemished" or handicapped were not permitted to serve in the priesthood, but nowhere is it suggested that they be abandoned in the fashion that the worst elements of our society sometimes does with unwanted pets! In the New Testament compassion and healing were written about more prominently
ReplyDeleteI had to check the date on this one to be sure it wasn't posted on April 1! If this report is totally factual, it raises all manner of fundamental issues, like how then could
PCG logically be against abortion? Or, do you believe that God heals today? Or what about the reputation of the corporate entity which you call God's Church? Is this the way you let your light shine?
Sometimes, because of past abuses, it becomes easy to believe the worst about these groups. However, there have been times when I read accusations in the media which I know don't square with the Armstrong belief system as I know it. Unfortunately, with the Flurry group, all bets are off. If this is what is truly happening in your church, you people from the PCG need to seek God's will as to whether this is what He intends for you!

>>Gerald Flurry the ANTI-Elijah strikes again.<<
ReplyDeleteReading this story that is exactly what happened to William B. Hinsom. He became a WCG minister in the 1960s. However he had a mentally disabled son. He was advised by people within WCG to leave him in a facility for such people in Franklin, Tennessee. He strongly suspected that his son would die, but he trusted them, he thought the Great Tribulation would soon start in 1972, so reluctantly he agreed. His son died as feared.
Later he left WCG and wrote a book about WCG, Broadway to Armageddon (1977). You can request it from Exit and Support Network.
Naturally Hinsom focuses a lot on the terrible consequences of people following HWA's anti-medicine superstition that he plagiarized from the Jehovah's Witnesses.
Congratulations to that brave commenter. No doubt you did the right thing.
This useless PCG minister's advice reminds me of this terrible incident I heard about. There was this man who murdered his wife and then took their eight year old young daughter on a plane and he then abandoned her at an airport. Did not do him much good. The authorities learned what happened and arrested him. He is now deservedly rotting away in jail. I think the PCG minister could have been charged with something serious if his horrific advise was followed.
Do some people actually believe there was a David who wrestled with lions and bears and won?!
ReplyDeleteHoly Santa claws!
More brainwashing madness.
ReplyDeleteIf HWA said something it must be right.
What about the time wrote that the return of Christ would occur "actually within the next two decades—THIS LAST HALF OF THE TWENTIETH CENTURY! (Mystery of the Ages, Herbert W. Armstrong, p. 298) (Source.)
Maybe we should pay closer attention to those words.
Oh wait! That's right. PCG editiors got rid of that embarrassing false prophecy. PCG members are reading a sanitized and censored version of Mystery of the Ages. Not what HWA actually wrote and promoted in his lifetime.
Maybe we should listen to his bold pronouncements that Christ would return within five, ten, twenty years during the 1950s and 1960s when he preached that Christ would return in 1975. Maybe we should listen to those words.
Or how about the time HWA taught that Pentecost must be observed on a Monday. Maybe we should listen to those words.
PCG only listens to HWA when convenient. That is the truth.
as far as football goes, a lot of long term injuries occur. One wonders if the insanity we see in pro football these days is more of a result or not. You see a guy like Tebow, fair QB, really guts it out when it counts, can hopefully learn something to become a stellar QB compared to the druggies and other criminal element playing the game today. The disdaining of Tebow and no real feeling against the ones with no character at all is simply amazing.
ReplyDeleteWe are really rather dumbed down. I know those who played the game for quite some time. Injuries they will never really recover from, juicing leading to more problems. Yeah like Bob said, you learn to be in dangerous situations and stuff, but is that worth the lifetime of pain and possible early death?
I would think many would be right to strongly suggest against it, encourage baseball or basketball, the latter still having its share of criminal element though. It was the keeping kids out of sports completely that was the travesty. Growing a bunch of weak men and the like. How many stories of youth who played the sports in HS or wherever who were lauded for their Sabbath stand? If I remember correctly there was a bball player who was in the sweet 16 back in the day or even further along and whose team asked for schedule changes for him. It would not happen in the pros, but up to the college level, pretty cool. Anyway, David wrestling a bear and lion vs playing FB, Joe M, you need some better comparisons, football is a joke compared to that.
