Is God Mean?
Some preachers seem to think God is always in a state of anger. They teach that God uses bad weather (tornadoes, hurricanes and earthquakes, etc.) to punish people for their sins. Just one problem with this nonsense type of reasoning. If God really did use bad weather to punish human
beings, then why oh why does the bad weather often happen to good people, while not impacting the ones who are responsible for vast evils in life on earth? Ever wonder why God does not target specific individuals for doing bad things like killing others in war, paid assassins, sadistic enforcers and those who pass legislation that hurts millions of human beings for the benefit of special interest groups (such as the medical establishment, the banking industry and so forth)? Oh yes there is evil in this world and most often it is the innocent who suffer at the hands of those with no conscience.
Wonder why God did not send a whirlwind (tornado) down on those who were responsible for the crucifixion of Jesus Christ? Instead tornadoes frequently hit housing areas of totally innocent human beings, as do hurricanes and earthquakes. Well, it is more than obvious that God actually does not use weather to punish people, anymore than any loving parent would do such things to their own children. Come on you preachers who teach that God is a monster just waiting to punish.
Perhaps if cult preachers got their heads out of the bible and started using common sense and reason, they would be able to think these things through. Fear-mongering never ceases from the pulpits of many churches. If you believe some of these preachers, then you have to think that God is a very bad parent who relishes judgment and punishment instead of love and mercy. Thank God that such preachers are not God, because they would be the worst parents in the universe, always ready to pounce on the heads of the helpless, the innocent and those with human nature. There is a vast difference between most human beings and the psychos with no conscience, ruling the world and who live to destroy what is right and good.
For God to send tornadoes upon the innocent is pure nonsense and no doubt many of those destroyed in bad weather are in fact Christians or good people no different than anyone else. They don't deserve the wrath of God. Anyone going to a church where the preacher teaches that God is a monster, should exit immediately, because Christ is not present in that preacher. Christ taught love and mercy and humility, where cult-preachers thrive on instilling fear in people.
God is not mean, but many preachers are.

A God cannot be angry...or sad or happy or anything that has to do with human emotions. Otherwise, it wouldn't be God, it would be a superhuman thingie subject to whims and temper tantrums.
ReplyDeleteHey...maybe that's why Jesus hasn't returned in the allotted time. Oh, I know, people have forgotten about that breach of promise thing (Num. 14:34) but that's God for ya, he can break his word if he chooses - part of the privilege of being God, you know.
God is much more complicated than simplistic preachers. He is certainly able to reward or punish, but often uses random patterns, or allows us to be mixed in with cause and effect of good or evil acts of others.
ReplyDeleteIn Revelation, the real lesson of the 7 churches is that people get stuck in potentially dangerous situations. God leaves them right in there, often at ground zero, but provides the assistance and mentoring so that His children can receive victory.
These people who like to play with prophecy are nothing more than wannabe gatekeepers. They want others to believe that their God punishes all who disagree with the preacher's worldview. It's just another way of playing God.

You've understated the case, Corky. God is like Chuck Norris. He can break his word without breaking his word. That's what it means when it says, "with God all things are possible."

If this is so, and of course this is just an idea itself, then no God can blame any human for not "getting it." Random patterns, mixed in, good evil are pretty slippery terms that seem to mean in reality that it can never be shown that any event is a God event or just plain life and reality.
This would be non-mentoring mentoring in my view.

Truth here...yes means no and no means yes, It always only appears that "God" does not answer or behave as advertised. Ultimately it is going to be YOU that missed something and is defective in YOUR views. God always gets off the hook no matter what and what you think you see you don't.
In a way, Dennis, the mentoring process is not unlike psychiatry. With God within, and the Christian being a full participant, one goes deeper and deeper to find the answers, solutions, God's will. someone presenting himself as a guru could actually get in the way coopting or circumventing the process. It's part of the reason it always seemed as if there was nothing there when we were under the "care" of legalistic gurus.

Relationship with God is a personal matter, and God being angry with a particular person is NONE OF OUR BUSINESS. Generalizing that a natural calamity occurs because God is angry is bringing us back to the Dark Ages. Oh yes, the WCG remnant churches are still in the Dark Ages, and no wonder why they have such belief and philosophy.
