Davey Pack has been going on and on over the last several months about how he is taking on the mantle of Joshua. In every single article he writes you can tell he is pointing the finger right to himself as being Joshua. However, he has not had the balls to really come out and say, "I am Joshua."
We know for certain that Davey is NOT picturing in his mind that Joshua would be someone else in his church, say....Dale Schurter. If it is someone else in Davey's cult then it invalidates Davey as the true leader.
Could something far more sinister be in the works with Davey? Is he about to proclaim himself something beyond Joshua?
You all remember what Joshua is a derivative of don't you?
The English name Joshua is a rendering of the Hebrew language "Yehoshua", meaning "Yahweh is salvation".[6][7] The vocalization of the second name component may be read as Hoshea - the name used in the Torah before Moses added the divine name (Numbers 13:16).[8]
"Jesus" is the English of the Greek transliteration of "Yehoshua" via Latin. In the Septuagint, all instances of the word "Yehoshua" are rendered as "Ἰησοῦς" (Iēsoūs), the closest Greek pronunciation of the Aramaic "Yeshua" (Hebrew word #3443 in Strong's, Nehemiah 8:17).[9][10] Thus in Greek Joshua is called "Jesus son of Naue" (τοῦ Ναυή) to differentiate him from Jesus Christ. This is also true in the Slavic languages following the Eastern Orthodox tradition (e.g. "Иисус Навин" (Iisús Navín) in Russian).
Since Davey says salvation cannot be found outside his group and that he has the power to grant salvation if you join his new superfantabulous church, is he ready to declare himself something greater? Is Davey going to become Jesus before long? Only Jesus has the capability to reunite the church. Does Jesus live in Wadsworth?
I suckered Dave Pack into using the word "Jesus" in his own newly hatched title, as retribution and repayment for the 4,54,981 times he has used the word "Christ" when "Jesus" would be better in his writings, sermons and updates.
ReplyDeleteSince Dave Pack is neither a trained theologian or into Hebrew vs Greek upgrades, I knew he'd fall for it.
Dad and I along with all the Heavenly Hosts thought it was hilarious. We hatched this plot about 4 years ago with Dave by putting certain strange ideas into his mind which we knew would grow. We had hoped he would have brought this out four years as we would not reveal it to him four years ago if we did not want to play the trick on him four years ago. But he held back. We did notice he now says something about this August because he figured something or other out just recently so it has to be this August. Those weren't the rules four years ago so we can't figure out what's going on.
We think he's hoping his folk don't remember " ...I am telling you if I go off into strange ideas...... you name it, don't follow me. I want to tell you that now, because if I start doing that I'm gonna try to get you to follow me! I'm gonna come to you and tell you it doesn't apply, it doesn't mean me, no, no, no, no, no, no, it's OK to follow me because ABCD and XY and Z. Do you understand what I'm saying? "
He's hilarious. Anyway, not to worry down there. We're on to him.
Joshua Ben Joseph (AKA Jesus)
Not likely.
ReplyDeleteRemember, Pack has recruited members by ridiculing other groups for their changes in HWA doctrine about Christ's return.
HWA made it clear. Christ would touch down on the Mount of Olives on the Feast of Trumpets.
Davey thinks he is a very special man, but he knows he is a man. We know who his mother and father were. Davey cannot be faithful to HWA while being the returning Christ.
The madman most likely to be Christ is Gerald Flurry, who already teaches that he holds the office of "Christ in the flesh." Flurry already allegorizes/spiritualizes away enough of HWA's old teachings that it wouldn't be too big of a Leap for him to proclaim himself the returned Christ.
But not for a while yet. Both Pack and Flurry still teach that Christ won't return until after the Philadelphian remnant has been taken to a Place of Safety for time, times and half a time (3.5 years). First they have to get their followers (out of the country?) onto their cult compound for 42 months, and only after that would they be in a position to reveal themselves as Christ.
Which means I don't think we will see David Christ Superstar this August. Maybe Gerald Christ in 2018, though.
Dave's " strange ideas" sermkn in 2009 coincides with his 4 years ago revelation of Mr. Joshua. Sounds he was cautiously doubtful himself. Oh the difference 4 years can make
ReplyDeleteGo away Davey, you're cramping Flurry's style. There's only room for one lawful Joshua in these end-times!
ReplyDeleteAnyone remember Oral Roberts any more?
ReplyDeleteNo?
Davey Pack will also fade away into obscurity one day.
He surely has gotten close to the mark without actually crossing it, hasn't he? The titles thing has evolved into a pathology for some of the splinter "leaders", but not others. In a way, it was set in motion decades ago in old school WCG, when the pecking order of "God's Government on Earth" started with HWA, GTA, and RCM. But, that was another one of those extrabiblical teachings. Still, it set off a preoccupation with titles.
ReplyDeleteMeredith was exiled at one point, as had been GTA before him. HWA and GTA both died and are now fertilizer for the lawns in some cemeteries. Most people holding to the original old school doctrines of WCG treat the Tkach's as if they were Herod and Caiaphas (Roman appointees).
Some of the splinters have been led by people who teach a lifestyle dominated by the original doctrines, ie, keeping the faith they consider once delivered by HWA. The people who seem to be preoccupied with titles were present during the heyday of HWA, but were not some of the original evangelists. When HWA passed away, there was no further opportunity for official elevation for them, sanctioned by "God's Apostle" (another extrabiblical teaching native to WCG). Worse, some suffered the additional "indignity" of having been disfellowshipped by HWA's actual successors, or by one of the original evangelists.
So, what do you do? How do you rationalize your continued existence outside of anything which seems to be the official chain of command? Well, you draw on other parts of HWA's legacy. You follow the example he set when he left COG-7. You claim that no one else is true to HWA's legacy, and you exaggerate your own past relationship with the man. You fantasize about titles which will outrank anyone from HWA's former chain of command, and you begin to assume those titles for yourself. You "prove" that these are appropriate by acquiring things formerly owned by HWA, the rights to the writings which he plagiarized, and you imitate HWA's building program, even though it is now theoretically closer to the end than it was during HWA's ministry.
The problem is that, in a world where religion is based on HWA, rather than on Jesus Christ, and where there are competitors, or others vying for recognition as being HWA's official successor, all of these activities constantly escalate. It is only natural that they would spin out of control. You'd think that logic or the limitations imposed by the Bible itself would kick in and curtail the outright silliness of it all, but this is after all, Armstrongism, a world in which conventional rules have never applied.
Even if David Pack realizes that he is treading on dangerous ground and does not take on the ultimate title of Christ, I guarantee that someone from Armstrongism will eventually escalate to this, and that whoever does it will have followers!

NOWHERE PACK
ReplyDelete(sing to the tune of the Beatles "Nowhere Man" )
He's a real nowhere Pack
Sitting in his Nowhere Shack,
Making all his nowhere plans
For nobody.
Has a twisted point of view,
Who knows where he's going to,
Good he isnt a bit like you and me
Nowhere Pack ,please listen,
Your sanity is what you're missing,
Nowhere Pack, the world is not at your command.
Pack's as blind as he can be,
Just sees what he wants to see,
Nowhere Pack can you see truth at all?

This is all interesting and it seems to line up with scripture that a man of sin will sit in the temple of God proclaiming himself to be God.
ReplyDeletePreviously we thought that this will be fulfilled by the beast in the new Jewish temple, but now it does appear that this may be wrong. No where in scripture does it state the words that the 'beast' will sit in the temple and do this. It simply states that the man of sin will do this.
Perhaps we have all misunderstood this scripture. Time will tell.
Do You Know
ReplyDeleteWhere you're going to?
Do you like the things
That life is showing you?
Where are you going to?
Do you know?
Do you get?
What you're hoping for?
When you look behind you There's no open doors
What are you hoping for?
Do you know?
Once we were standing still, in time
Chasing the fantasies and feeling all nice (was it all worth it, the lies and crying out for attention..the door will shut and no man can open).
With apologies to the Shangri-Las:
ReplyDeleteI met him at the health food store.
He turned around and scowled at me.
You get the picture? Yes, we see!
That's when I fell for... the leader named DAVE PACK!
My minister was always putting him down.
He said he came from the wrong side of town.
They told me he was bad, but I knew he was sad.
That's when I fell for... the leader named DAVE PACK!
September 1 I had to find someone new.
I had to tell old Joshua "We're through!"
He stood there and asked me "Why?"
But all I could do was cry,
"I'm sorry you hurt me, you leader named DAVE PACK!"
