The Electric Guitar Riffing Prophet of Armstrongism Gives a Prophetic Message With His Guitar

The prophet King added a guitar to his rocking chair missives today.

It's too bad that King did not continue on and make something of himself by playing guitar instead of promoting himself as some kind of true spiritual leader in Armstrongism.

  2. What is this guy's background, and where did he come from?

Obviously, musically he was influenced by Tony Iommi of Black Sabbath, and probably Dimebag Darell Abbot of Pantera. Maybe Iron Maiden and Tool, as well. Too bad he didn't show us his guitar, although what we could see was unmistakably Fender headstock with rosewood inlays in the neck. I'm guessing Stratocaster.

Also, his speaking style was not based on the UAP (universal Ambassador personality). He sounded more like the pastor of a non-denominational Protestant church. At the cost of sounding prejudiced, I initially thought it'd be nice to hear him play the entire song the sound bytes came from, but on second thought, knowing he's into Armstrongism would probably spoil it.

Giving him his due, he is certainly a more effective speaker than Bob Thiel

  4. A couple of questions aside from the "music:"

If this is a MESSAGE OF FIRE, then why can't this guy's lighting be any better?

Was that supposed to be a dramatic exit, with the rocking chair continuing to rock? Ooooo! It actually made me think of the climax of Alfred Hitchcock's PSYCHO, when Vera Miles finds Mrs. Bates. That what you intended, Eric?

  5. As if we don't already knows all this...been there, heard that.

He should call his heavy metal cult>"Temporary Insanity!"<

All these so called "Prophet" churches all have this in common:see link^.

It does not have anything to do with following Christ. The way I see it, you are either in a cult led by a prophet or you are "the church" led by Jesus Christ...because their cannot be a physical man leading you when a spiritual being is suppose to be.

...blah, blah, blah, "Wow, what a revelation!"

  6. Here again, not that we should consider HWA as any kind of example, but back in the day, knowing enough about hard rock music to be able to play those riffs would have disqualified one from HWA's ministry. There was an AC grad doing menial work at AC Press who had been a candidate for the ministry, but for some unknown reason had taken it upon himself to tell HWA that he was wrong about rock n roll. Fill in the blanks. HWA was absolutely notorious for his "mercy" in allowing his challengers to drive the garbage truck or work as custodians, if they repented. Otherwise, they were out, and presumably enroute for the Lake of Fire.

  8. From Mystery of the Ages by Herbert W. Armstrong, hardcover pages 83-84:

"Great genius and skill in music was created in him [SATAN]. Now that he has become perverted in all thinking, acting and being, he is the real author of modern perverted music and the modern rock beat--of discordant moans, squawks, shrieks wails--physically and emotionally excitable beats--unhappy, discouraged moods. Think of all the supreme talent, ability and potential in a being created with such capacities. And all perverted! All gone sour--all dissipated, turned to hatred, destruction, hopelessness!"

  9. It would be interesting to hear what Herbert Armstrong would say about someone like Eric King with his open-collar dark shirt, no necktie, and electric guitar, pretending to be a prophet, and always rubbing his eyes and nose like he is on illegal drugs.

  10. Once again, E.W. King has taken the criticism of being off his rocker too literally.

  12. The reason I never liked classical music is that it was so depressing, with its discord, shrieks, and wails. I liked the harmony, the uptempo beat, and the danceability of popular music, like rock n roll, country, and blues. Give me uptempo improvisation over three or four chords any day of the week! Toe tapping stuff. The problem with HWA is that he had no respect for the working man or his passtimes. Anything blue collar was of the devil. It was one more way of making his followers feel less than, so they would need him and his putrid little church with its lying doctrines and fearsome prophecies!

  13. Although classical music is the best types of music- that requires more than a need for instant gratification- I also like other types, from rap to disco.

But, Eric's thing seems to be to try to appeal to people with "whatever means necessary"-
like what some mainstream Christians do with their "extreme sports ministries", "extreme tattoo ministries", "bodybuilding ministries", "karate ministries", "body-piercing ministries", "gay-haters' ministries", "motorcycle ministries", "skateboarding ministries", "gun lovers' ministries", "Muslim haters' ministries", "duck hunting ministries", etc.

    He's doing nothing new.
It's just an old sleazy salesman's tactic!
