Herbert Armstrong's Tangled Web of Corrupt Leaders

My Guardian Angel Will Chase My Hecklers Down

I am always fascinated by those brought up in the nonsense of Armstrongism on how magical their god is to them and how it specifically works in their favor because they are the chosen ones speaking the truth.

The latest to sic his angel on his detractors is Tom Mahon.  He writes:

Woe To The Wicked

This blog has been attacked by agents of the devil, because they don’t like the truth.  These misguided, malevolent agents think that they can intimidate me or that I will be overwhelmed by their attacks, and take down my blog.  Well, they are sadly mistaken!

My message to the agents of Satan is this, you will wish that you had never been born!  For the words of Jesus are these: “Whosoever shall offend one of these little ones that believe in me, it were better for him that a millstone were hanged about his neck, and that he were drowned in the depth of the sea”(Matt.18:6).  If it is better to be drowned with a millstone about your neck, what is worse?

So with a worse, terrifying prospect looming, the agents of the devil may as well kill themselves.  For later Jesus added: “Woe unto the world because of offences!”  And then he added: “Take heed that you despise not one of these little ones; for I say unto you, that in heaven their angels always behold the face of my Father who is in heaven”(Matt.18:10).

One of the angels that is assigned to looking after me will chase my enemies, and there will be nowhere to run or hide.

The hirelings in all the divided “churches of god” and their deluded supporters, who are hostile to the truth, but are greedy for money and power will suffer the fate of the rich man.

  1. Tom tries to defend Armstrongism, and I'm sure he is sincere, but people of greater intellect frequently make mincemeat of his apologetics.

I don't know why some can't just be themselves, and let the argument stand or fall. If they had a guardian angel, supernatural stuff would actually happen, and they'd be vindicated, but this never happens.

The mistake is trying to defend an indefensible package like Armstrongism in the first place. Neither humans nor angels could do that, although plenty of people have made themselves appear ridiculous and tragic by trying.

    Poor Tom.

  2. So never mind that I myself and others down through the years have been abused by all those a.h's. We don't count as being offended by the great (already gods) or Jesus.

    OH SHUT UP ALREADY!

  3. It isn't clear to me whether there are others who are "attacking" poor Tommie boy, but I know he is supremely irritated with me for disclosing that Herbert Armstrong was a charlatan who committed incest with his daughter for 10 years, disproved British Israelism, debunked "the true history of the true church" and absolutely made chaos out of his belief system. The horror of it all! Not having respect for Herbert Armstrong and his heresies! Defying the "authority" of the (non) Apostle who was also a false prophet.

You know, Byker Bob probably doesn't fare much better with him.

It never ceases to amaze me how such delusional people absolutely refuse to look at the truth. They lie to themselves and expect us to respect their lies.

Now I didn't really say that Tommie boy was a moron, but his misspellings certainly doesn't make him look as bright and intelligent that he would like us to think he is.

You know, he might want to start checking his facts before he launches into his ad hominem attacks.

    It makes him look silly.

  4. By the way, there's an excellent guest editorial, "Living in Indignation" in the October 2014 Analog: Science Fiction and Fact magazine by Richard A. Lovett concerning the disturbing trend of a "culture awash with outrage" used to polarize people on both sides of an issue. He says:

It's easy enough for this to get out of hand when someone really is getting away with some sort of injustice. But if blogger Clark is right, America's infatuation with outrage -- the difference between indignation and IndigNation -- isn't about redressing wrong: It's about creating excuses to feed self-righteousness. Hugo winner and Analog contributor David Brin agrees, suggesting as far back as 2005 that this might be a form of "self-addiction" warranting serious study by neuroscientists. He speaks of the intoxication of this type of outrage makes us feel morally superior to our opponents.

And then he gives my favorite part about burning kittens:

As an example, Clark likes to compare it to stirring up outrage over kitten burning. That's right, igniting baby felines. "Burning kittens is... quite simply evil," Clark Says, "No one should burn kittens." But other than perhaps a few psychopaths, nobody burns kittens. And that, Clark says, means that feeding our own self-righteousness by denouncing kitten-burning is itself not only a waste of time, but actively wrong. Anyone who did that who did that, he says, would be "not driven by their opposition to kitten-burning," but by their opposition to a make-believe faction of other people whom they imagine kitten-burning.

It's just another piece of hyperbole.

Richard Lovett ends the article by saying:

This doesn't mean we always have to agree with everyone--ore even come close to it. But if we can't understand where the other is coming from--can't break through the cycle of self-addicted self-rigtheousness to see our opponents not as kitten-burners but as human--we are doomed to being less than the humans we ourselves could be.

And just to be clear, I don't burn kittens. If I were to set fire to felines I'd make sure they were fully grown cats.

Hey, Mikey, where are the matches, here kitty, kitty, kitty.

Or so those who would oppose my debunking of British Israelism would have you believe.

  5. My Guardian Angel helped me out a few times and made some "hits" on my behalf too, but is no longer available for me as he is now in the "Witness Protection Program" !

  7. Tom seems to be a tragic figure. I hope he finds the help he needs.

  8. Tragic, anonymous, yes. But in a greater sense, he is a typical specimen, someone who fervently believes that HWA was the modern equivalent of a Biblical figure, and that to enter the Kingdom, one "qualifies" by holding fast to the faith delivered by HWA. In micrcosm, he provides us with insight into the mind of the stalwart Armstrongite.

He is perhaps the very point of the iceberg. There are numerous other silent ones floating around out there who have not gone high profile. Seemingly, they are "protected" by an impenetrable membrane, a mental condom which even prevents sensitivity, from any outside information which would alter or influence their beliefs. He does represent a departure from the norm, and not in a beneficial way.

  9. Tom also is one who does not need a following near as much as he needs medication.

  10. If I can just stop trembling at the prospect long enough to type, let me assure Tom that his ethereal, non-existent angel will have no difficulty finding me. I don't hide and I'm very vocal all over the place, including Facebook and my blog. At the same time, I only have a vague idea of who his insignificance is.

  11. It's all good! My pet Martian who crash landed in the pool during a storm over the weekend knows Tom, and knows where he lives. We yucked it up over a couple of Saturnalian beers he brought last night! Martians act like leprechauns, and this one is a real ham. He actually manifested himself to Tom as HWA!

  12. Last I heard, Tom Mahon was eating cake and worshiping Herbert Armstrong while keeping children locked in a closet.

(And, Tommy Boy continually makes mincemeat of the English language.)

During prayer, Jesus asked me to show this to Tom.
