Greg Nice/PCG: Being Happy Is Pagan!

This is a comment from the thread on Greg Nice justifying shunning of family members.

Can this man truly be this stupid?

A couple years ago when Greg was at HQs for the birth of his grand baby, he graced us all with his presence and gave a sermonette. He spoke about "happiness" and how being happy is pagan! He said the origins of happy came from China and no where in the Bible is happiness mentioned and that we should never strive to be happy. I just remember staring at that doofus in absolute disbelief!

His daughter in law almost died during childbirth and he was rambling on about how it wouldn't make any difference if she lived or died because all things work out for the good.

He's a very callous man!

But then, the PCG teaches us all to be callous and cold, it's all part of the grand Brotherly Love Plan!

  1. After the sermonette, did the song leader stand and instruct the congregation to take their Purple Hymnals and rise to sing "Blessed and Happy is the Man"?

  2. Oh good grief! I was there at HQs and I remember that sermonette! Greg Nice is a real hard a$$. He was so self righteous and smug! Not a man any of us wanted to be around. His boys seem sweet. One is married to a lovely girl Ivory, and the other is married to Adar, she was the one that almost died during childbirth.
Funny how both sons immediately got HQs jobs after graduating from Armstrong college and both were given quite large homes. I never landed that kind of deal when I got out of college.
Sure makes you wonder who you have to sleep with in the PCG to get ahead.

  3. I wouldn't mind Greg Nices responding to this post. Experience has taught me to have both parties present their side of the story

  4. F*** the what!? Being Happy is Pagan!? Man the PCG is really full of nut-jobs. I spent three years in the Church of God International and I heard them preach plenty of stupid things, I thought they were as dumb as a bag of nails, but this statement from the PCG takes the prize. The PCG make the CGI look like they're sane. I'd rather spend the rest of my life being a happy pagan than a miserable Armstrongite.

  5. HAPPY: delighted, pleased, or glad, as over a particular thing:
to be happy to see a person.

    2. characterized by or indicative of pleasure, contentment, or joy.

He's right, there is no happiness, contentment, pleasure or joy in a Church of God.

  6. 12:42 Greg Nice does not have the capability to respond to this. Everyone outside his circle are apostates because they do not follow Gerald Flurry's nonsense. Like most in leadership positions in the far right COG's he would lie and say he never said such a thing. With the prohibition that PCG has in place of recording sermons it would be impossible for anyone to produce that, unless they did it under cover, which many do.

  7. The basic problem being that in most cases, happiness is one of several involuntary, temporary emotional states. So, in order not to be happy, you have to force yourself to suppress it, and to fake another emotion in its place to fool the fellow members of your Kool-Aid clatch.

Sheesh! I bet this guy spanks his cat every time it purrs! After all, cats were first domesticated by the Egyptians, another "pagan" group.

This is a very transparent rationalization, obviously concocted to deal with massive unhappiness in the PCG! Aren't these the people who are supposed to derive their happiness from news that their work is growing, and new members have been added? An alternate piece of artwork for this entry would have been a famous painting: American Gothic.

  8. The PCG is an interment camp. Were the Germans happy to be in an interment camp after capture? How about the Japanese? No, Mr. Nice is right. No happiness should be allowed. Only pain and suffering should be seen as a way of life.

I recall when I got baptized a letter came in the mail from the wcg. It told me how I was now going to suffer. I should have not seen God as the cause or even Satan, but the camp commandant who created the mindset that things were going to get real rough. And pain it was trying to live my life under an impossible set of endless laws. It didn't take that many years before I said 'better to dwell in hell than to serve a tyrannical god'.

  9. "When a man has taken a new wife, he shall not go out to war or be charged with any business; he shall be free at home one year, and bring happiness to his wife whom he has taken." (Deu 24:5)

    Just sayin.

  10. LOGIC QUESTION:

When Nice says that being Unhappy makes him happy, is this a logical fallacy?

Obviously, since this is what Nice is implying , it is a logical fallacy and is flawed reasoning.

    on hearing the

    pretty ugly

    words of this

  12. Anon 12:42...Greg Nice already did respond to his side of the story by saying what he said, we are simply responding to what he said. Yes there are two sides to every story, he gave his in his sermonette, verified by who wrote the article and by Anon 11:45.
