Poor Dave. People are ridiculing him and making fun of what he teaches!
“Knowing this first, that there shall come in the last days scoffers, walking after their own lusts, and saying, Where is the promise of his coming…[Time is going on. Well, we’re in those times now. That’s one of the problems of the last days, by the way, there are scoffers]…for since the fathers fell asleep, all things continue as they were from the beginning of the creation.”
“For this they willingly are ignorant of, that by the word of God the heavens were of old, and the earth standing out of the water and in the water: whereby the world that then was, being overflowed with water, perished: but the heavens and the earth, which are now, by the same word [the Word of God] are kept in store, reserved unto fire against the day of judgment and perdition of ungodly men” (II Pet. 3:1-7). So there is a day that the heavens and earth are, sort of, being reserved and kept in the store against this day of judgment and destruction—that’s perdition, judgment and destruction of ungodly men.It is always interesting to see Church of God ministers throw this verse around so freely, especially when most of the things they have preached have failed to happen. All it takes is one failed prophecy to make everything they preach not credible.
Deuteronomy 18:21-22The Message (MSG)21-22 You may be wondering among yourselves, “How can we tell the difference, whether it was God who spoke or not?” Here’s how: If what the prophet spoke in God’s name doesn’t happen, then obviously God wasn’t behind it; the prophet made it up. Forget about him.
Everything Dave Pack, James Malm and Bob Thiel preaches been made up. Forget about them!
No one is willingly ignorant just as those that see the reality of Evolution in science don't do so "because they don't want to obey God." What is scoffing to the ministry is noticing to the layman. We notice the prophecies of the ministry do not come true. We notice that Dave has made immutable statements about August of 2013 and he was wrong. We notice Dave doesn't admit he was wrong or that Bob Thiel is a generalist that any clown could imitate in their dreaming or "could it be's"
ReplyDeleteWe notice that the "soon"s, the time is short, the hour now is, the day is far spent, the things which much shortly come to pass and the behold I come quickly was very wrong and thousands of years old. We don't necessarily find comfort in "well knucklehead, a day with the Lord is as a thousand years and a thousand years as a day" especially since He failed to mention this when the "prophecy" was given. It seems more like a disappointed after thought and an apologetic for the "we who are alive" and "we shall be changed" dying and not changed in their time as they said.
Let me play prophet.
Dave Pack will grow old and die. His campus will go bankrupt and become a school for the hard of hearing.
Bob Thiel will grow old and die and football will still be popular a hundred years from now
Gerald Flurry will grow older and die and the fact that "the first generation founds it, the second generation maintains it, and the third generation loses it" will come true.
Rod Meredith will die soon and the battle between Gerald Weston and Doug Winnail will begin in earnest. Law and Grace will clash for preeminence and Doug will lose. Then they will grow old and die too.
All who read Banned will grow old and die wondering "what was that all about anyway?"
No Deity will have returned to this insignificant blue dot to make silly narcissists want to rule over more cities than their neighbor or become a god as god is god.
Humans will continue to evolve, perhaps run their course and a million years from now the Universe will still be here noting that few will remember and have long forgotten the words we have spoken here today....
“Sit down before fact as a little child, be prepared to give up every preconceived notion, follow humbly wherever and to whatever abysses nature leads, or you shall learn nothing”

Dennis, you forgot "everything is meaningless..."
ReplyDeleteBecause we all die, the only thing you can take to your grave is honor. Living life as a honest individual is to be honorable. Something Dave Pack has never been known for. Did I forget anyone else?
During my tenure in the WCG, HWA forecast the apocalypse for 1972-75. This was what we WCG baby boomers grew up believing. It was what we believed at Ambassador College during the sixties, when we were taught three math equations "proving" that these were the dates. Shortly before 1972, although there was the youth counter-culture and its questioning of all societal conventions, accompanied by experimentation with street pharmaceuticals, and an economic recession, conditions had not embarked on any sort of final slide, and the church began backpedaling in an effort to retain credibility. "We never set dates, brethren" became a popular thing to say in sermons and sermonettes. But they had. And in a church brainwashed to believe what the ministers said rather than the truth, many members lapped that up, and simply reprogrammed themselves.
ReplyDeleteScoffing? Collectively, the ACOG splinters have continued to make so many false prophecies, and to wildly speculate regarding dates, that if anyone other than ourselves were paying attention to the ACOGs as a group, how could there be any reaction other than scoffing or contempt? They have made themselves appear ridiculous, have caused the scoffing, and then point to it as validation. It's the one element of their prophecies that actually appears to have been fulfilled.
There are always going to be factors which appear to be bad, trends to which people can point, which if they worsened and mysteriously combined with one another, could spell the end of civilization as we know them. By now, without the effort of scientists, AIDS would have had significant impact on the global population. Without the intervention of economists, there would have been global financial collapse. Without the intelligence community, the radical Islamic jihad would have been unchecked, and would have had far more terrifying impact on our freedoms. But, this is what man does; the drive for survival is the strongest drive known to man, and as a species, we are very resourceful and resilient. Armstrongism has historically underestimated this, in its enthusiasm for Herbert's hook. Some members have banked upon, and looked forward to "the end", while others believe their church but secretly hope they are wrong.
Wouldn't it be ironic if the movement finally got a clue, quit indulging in all of the wild speculation, and then it happened? (Not)

Dennis:
ReplyDeleteYour above post sounded like a sermon from Ecclesiastes 4--
New Living Translation (NLT)
4 Again, I observed all the oppression that takes place under the sun. I saw the tears of the oppressed, with no one to comfort them. The oppressors have great power, and their victims are helpless. 2 So I concluded that the dead are better off than the living. 3 But most fortunate of all are those who are not yet born. For they have not seen all the evil that is done under the sun.
4 Then I observed that most people are motivated to success because they envy their neighbors. But this, too, is meaningless—like chasing the wind.
5 “Fools fold their idle hands,
leading them to ruin.”
6 And yet,
“Better to have one handful with quietness
than two handfuls with hard work
and chasing the wind.”
The Advantages of Companionship
7 I observed yet another example of something meaningless under the sun. 8 This is the case of a man who is all alone, without a child or a brother, yet who works hard to gain as much wealth as he can. But then he asks himself, “Who am I working for? Why am I giving up so much pleasure now?” It is all so meaningless and depressing.
9 Two people are better off than one, for they can help each other succeed. 10 If one person falls, the other can reach out and help. But someone who falls alone is in real trouble. 11 Likewise, two people lying close together can keep each other warm. But how can one be warm alone? 12 A person standing alone can be attacked and defeated, but two can stand back-to-back and conquer. Three are even better, for a triple-braided cord is not easily broken.
The Futility of Political Power
13 It is better to be a poor but wise youth than an old and foolish king who refuses all advice. 14 Such a youth could rise from poverty and succeed. He might even become king, though he has been in prison. 15 But then everyone rushes to the side of yet another youth[a] who replaces him. 16 Endless crowds stand around him,[b] but then another generation grows up and rejects him, too. So it is all meaningless—like chasing the wind.
"Living life as a honest individual is to be honorable."
ReplyDeletequestion.....why is honesty honorable? because you say so?
if I'm dishonest I can gain wealth more quickly and provide for my family at a much higher level.....and providing for my family is much more honorable than being honest, right?
since there is no god and we all die, whatever we did in life will be of no consequence....so lets get all we can while we can.
if you got duped by a dishonest guy, that's your problem....don't blame him.

And it isn't even the last days and the scoffers have already shown up!
ReplyDeleteAnd unfortunately, so far, they've been right!
Thanks, Connie, for quoting some of my favorite passages from my very favorite Bible book.
ReplyDeleteAs long as such self-identified prophets and evangelists as Pack, Thiel, Flurry, et al. expand on scripture, let me take my turn. That opinion of the preacher that "But most fortunate of all are those who are not yet born. For they have not seen all the evil that is done under the sun"? Right on; the only happy people are the ones that never existed. But how many are that lucky? Not one in a thousand. Not one in ten thousand!
That is to say, even more fortunate than the not yet born are the unconceived. Like the merely unborn, the unconceived never have to worry about tyranny, fraud, corruption, or long lines at the supermarket. Even better, they are not subject to the perils of Zika infection, genetic malformation, miscarriage, or abortion. They are truly the happiest of all. And yet we keep on recruiting the unconceived from their blissful oblivion and imposing on them all the ills that ensue from actual existence.
Please. We must stop. Happiness is a precious gift. We should not deny it to any human being simply because he or she happens to be hypothetical.
Imagine if you would, a universal epidemic whose only symptom was sterility. No vaccine, no antidote, no immunity. That is all it would take to wipe out humanity. Painless extinction. Gone like Dino and his friends.
DeleteIf Satan were as Armstrongism theorized, you'd think he'd at least be experimenting with such a virus. Come to think of it, seems like that would be a painless way for God to initiate an apocalypse, if that were His will. No British Israelism, no German Assyrianism, no African Canaanism. As a screenplay writer might note, (fade to animal kingdom).

ReplyDeleteMY COMMENT - Are you describing Herbert Armstrong who duped many people? Every Feast of Tabernacles, HWA would tell us his life story and how he always wanted to be a millionaire. The dumb tithe slave sheeple were too stupid to take Herbert Armstrong at his own word, and failed to understand that they were financing HWA's life long desire.
Quote of the day - "If you want to dine with the classes, you must sell to the masses". Or, adapted to multimillionaire Herbert Armstrong flying around the world in his Gulfstream II private jet, "If you want to dine with the classes (with Kings and world leaders), you must lie to the masses".

Dennis, I'm coming out of the closet. I'm outing myself. I am one of those "silly narcissistic who wants to rule over more cities than their neighbour."
ReplyDeleteI'm proud of it, and won't be intimidated.
Whilst Dennis and others are ashes (silly fools), I'II be immortal and ruling over many cities.
Anon 12:39. I've already made arrangements to be ashes and if you want to have me under your saintly feet you'll have to go up to Mt Hood or St Helens to dance

ReplyDelete“Dave Pack: There Will Be Scoffers In The Last Days”
Even worse, there will be crazy false prophets like psycho Dave Packman (the devourer of everything). Those who do not scoff at him will suffer a great suffering.
Dave Quackman sure is scoffing at the true God with his quack teachings.
ReplyDeleteThese teachings make the Sharknado movies seem plausible and reasonable.

What an honor to have you among us, Mr. Trump. I am astonished, though, that you posted as "anonymous" and tried to hide your identity further by using British-style "neighbor" and "whilst." So unlike you.
"There will be scoffers" has always been my favorite self-fulfilling prophecy that religious con-men use to justify themselves. "The stupid shit I say has to be right because people are laughing at the stupid shit I say."
ReplyDeleteRetired prof, eternal life and death being discussed here, while you nitpick about spelling. If people post anonymously, shouldn't you respect that? This is another example of the fact that while many people here complain about the slivers, psychologically they are still in the 'WCG image.' The rejection and/or confusion about rights is one tell-tale sign.
ReplyDeleteActually it's Hillary Clinton that lives to (mis) rule.
