Gerald Flurry: Salvation Only Available through the Sabbath

Gerald Flurry has a new article up on his web site about the sabbath.  His byline starts off with this:

If we properly keep the Sabbath, we would never look to hopeless men.
The proper translation to that should be:   "If we followed Jesus, we would never look to hopeless men like Gerald Flurry. "

He starts by quoting Jeremiah  17:19-25 and then says this:
The Laodiceans can stop the curse. They must start with properly keeping God’s Sabbath day. The Sabbath is a sign that we are God’s royal Family.
“Speak thou also unto the children of Israel, saying, Verily my sabbaths ye shall keep: for it is a sign between me and you throughout your generations; that ye may know that I am the Lord that doth sanctify you. Ye shall keep the sabbath therefore; for it is holy unto you: every one that defileth it shall surely be put to death: for whosoever doeth any work therein, that soul shall be cut off from among his people. Six days may work be done; but in the seventh is the sabbath of rest, holy to the Lord: whosoever doeth any work in the sabbath day, he shall surely be put to death. Wherefore the children of Israel shall keep the sabbath, to observe the sabbath throughout their generations, for a perpetual covenant. It is a sign between me and the children of Israel for ever: for in six days the Lord made heaven and earth, and on the seventh day he rested, and was refreshed” (Exodus 31:13-17).
Today we must look at these verses spiritually. It is far more serious now than it was anciently. We get to know the true God through proper Sabbath-keeping. Only the firstfruits are called to that honor today. If they turn away, they won’t just die physically as ancient Israel did. These saints entered into a covenant with God. Now their eternal lives are at stake!
No ones salvation is contingent upon Sabbath keeping or law keeping, regardless of what the apostate COG leaders claim.

  1. Apparently no one in PCG keeps the Sabbath properly.

If they are keeping it as they are told by the ministry, they probably aren't. As with all the splinters, the fault is inherent in the system.

Life is easier once you dispel the notion of the Mythical True Church.

  6. Ephesians 2:8-9 For by grace you have been saved through faith. And this is not your own doing; it is the GIFT of God, NOT a result of WORKS, so that no one may boast.

Cult group-think is evident when you show these scriptures to COG members. They shrink away from this verse like a vampire confronted with a cross. They can't deal with the passage directly but must run for the shadow cover of a law verse.

Jesus is the light fulfillment of the shadowy law.

  7. Anon 513,

To throw a Roman amongst the Ephesians, add Romans 3:20, 5:20, 6:1-2, ...

  8. We can rest any day of the week when needed. We don't need the Sabbath. For whatever reason the Sabbath was invented by religious leaders thousands of years ago. The Sabbath was not ordained by a god but by men who are the true inventers of religion.

  9. Most in PCG don't keep the Sabbath properly. Many drive too far, eat out all the time, and talk about Flurry (as if he is God). The Sabbath is a period of time that God made holy, not a destination.

  10. it's hard to take them seriously when they rush out to a restaurant after Sabbath services, or have lavish catered affairs on the Holy Days...

  11. The Scandinavian members have some pretty serious sabbath challenges long about the Summer Solstice. The sun doesn't ever set in some parts. That should tell folks that the sabbath was created for specific people in a certain geographic area, but nobody in Armstrongism seems to notice. They don't believe in Noahide law.

or any of a number of other things. Like the stampede to the restrooms after services to get out of their 'sabbath go to meetin' clothes. Da meetin's over and I'm outta here kind a thing. I thought the whole day was the Sabbath. Do they dress up to impress each other or show 'respect' to God? If they dress up to show 'respect' to God, why the stampede to get out of 'those infernal clothes'? Did God leave the building or the day when services ended?

  13. I remember Brian Davis one time giving a sermon and saying that people should be willing to travel no matter how far to be at sabbath services. So I suppose people on fixed income which most of PCG membership is made up of would have to travel 3-4 hours and then have to sleep somewhere overnight which ends up costing them quite a bit each sabbath.
