The "Common Ploy" and "Golly...all those books"

" Anonymous said...

"I can't help noticing how Dennis's new pic has him with his reading glasses on, plus all those books in the background. That's a common ploy used by the XCOG leaders including Herb, Flurry, Tkach and Dave.

Golly, they must be very smart and knowledgeable having all those books in the background. I might do the same by having a pic of myself in a library, a real big library."

...too late

2015

The picture was taken in the Portland Public Library, where I also happen to  live (Portland, not the library :) and where Herbert Armstrong did his "six months of intensive study" leading to the WCG. That was the original point.  I found the most likely spot in the theology section where HWA may have sat in perhaps the same setting.  I found "Mystery of the Ages" on the shelf behind me and held it upside down to make a point on it being more of a mystery than we thought.

The glasses are untypically down and in the mode of "well now, what have we here" as I hold the book. I don't really wear my glasses like that nor have the attitude you falsely and ignorantly assign to it. I'll tell the Portland Library Librarian you thought all the books on the shelf were a nice intellectual touch. I tried hard to find a location in the library that had books where I could look exceptionally very smart and intellectual.  Portland library is a really big one so come on down and you can have your picture taken in the children's section.

  1. For me it is personally either karmic or at least ironic that I ended up in Portland on the same streets where HWA roamed, drive often past the Hinson Baptist Church where HWA was baptized and near the neighborhood where GTA was born. I don't let my WCG experience define me, so don't you try to do it for me ok?

  2. These bookcases are straight and there are no dingy curtains, so it's okay!

  3. Hey Dennis, you remind me a little of Richard Gere. How many times have you heard that?

  4. Is there a book there called "HWA for Dummies" ??

  5. We remember our oppressors in certain poses. They were certainly not the orignators of those poses, they were using them to cultivate a particular image.

There were other memorable images, too. How many of us have as the most prominent image from our youth a mental picture of Mom or Dad wielding a belt or paddle, and yelling “get your pants down and grab your ankles! Do you realize that if we were in ancient Israel, we’d be turning you over to the priests and you’d be taken to the outskirts of town where we’d all stone you?”
Or alternately, “ I believe that you are probably going to have something to do with the antichrist!” Or, “God is probably going to supernaturally keep you alive through the whole tribulation so that you can suffer the full brunt of the Germans!”

Ah, the sweet memories of being raised in an Armstrongite household! Hey Nicky, wanna tell us this stuff never happened?

  6. I’m thinking that people like Dave Pack or Jon Brisby would probably vehemently disapprove of a minister appearing in public (let alone the library!) dressed down in casual clothes with his hair flopped forwards. So it appears that Dennis isn’t anywhere near conforming to Ambassador culture, or to the Pharasissies. Case dismissed!

That's the subtitle for Mystery of the Ages when read upside down. It's a mystery! :)

Often plus Steve Martin lol. Gere is Buddhist in his views and Martin is a Wild and Crazzzy Guy! So.... fits! When I was 19 and being counseled for baptism, the interrogating minister said, after I listed my sins or lack of them at the time, (they came later) "And those big brown cow eyes of yours aren't going to help you either!" That one threw me as I always felt them to be an asset :)

  9. And I just bought some cottage cheese. I am eating it now. It is small curd and it is all cut into tiny cubes. What's that all about?

    1. Apparently, cottage cheese dates from 3rd century BC Mesopotamia, and was later spread and popularized throughout the empire by the Romans.

I personally enjoy the small curd variety, mixed with Chives or Lipton powdered Onion Soup as a dip for kettle cooked potato chips. Makes for awesome snacking materials over the weekend.

  10. @ 11:38AM, even the splinters have had some government attention in the wake of the Waco incident and Branch Davidians. There are credible reports that LCG has had as many as two government infiltrators on its payroll.

    1. Look I m no friend of LCG. But those "credible sources" have no idea about how the government works. I assure you that lcg has not been on a watchlist due to waco.

Hilarious assertions by nimcompoops. I know of fbi directors sitting with splinter cog officials in the local country club from truly reliable source.

    2. Apocalypticism is a dime a dozen in American Protestantism and its many non-Catholic offshoots (just check Facebook comments on any article about the use of passive RFID chips and enjoy the inanity). I find it hard to believe that much about LCG would merit federal attention. Sounds more like wishful thinking on some LCG member's part.
