God's greatest gift to the church was James Malm, at least in his eyes. No one in all the COG's was trying to hold members accountable for their sinful wayward ways than James Malm. A legalist extraordinaire and a modern-day Pharisee, James led the way in vain attempts to strangle members with as much legalism as possible.
For many years, instead of working a normal job, James spent his entire day parked in front of his computer rewriting the Bible according to how he needed to see it. While suffering from medical issues at times, James depended upon his few acolytes that sent him money and the public assistance he got from the government in British Columbia, Canada.
After his sudden death, his son decided to set up a GoFundMe account in order to bring in $90,000. The claim was that the extraordinary amount of money would allow him to charter a boat and scatter James ashes at sea. So far, that fund is not drawing in money from James' followers and $90,000 is an unreachable goal.
Now it emerges that his son, who has no job but has relied upon public assistance (like James), is under threat by his siblings over his inheritance from James. One thing is for sure, COG families are the BEST!

Didn't that Jesus guy say something about, "If someone tries to take your shirt, give him your coat, too"?
ReplyDeleteDidn't Malm's kid learn anything about keeping the letter of Jesus' commands, like that one from Matthew 5:40? If David's siblings want their father's' estate, Jesus says: "Give it to them!"
Is anyone surprised?

ReplyDeleteFor even when we were with you, this we commanded you, that if any would not work, neither should he eat.
Malm in one of his posts wrote (from memory) that "his sons are not qualified to rule, but rather to be ruled." Which I interpreted at the time as code words for his sons being morally challenged. Not that I believe the words ruler or ruled as used by the ACOGs to be biblical.
ReplyDeleteJames wrote about how to masturbate young girls in the shining light blog. I called him on this and he staunchly justified his writings.
ReplyDeleteReally sad and twisted.
James Malm has an inheritance?!
ReplyDeleteBased on his writings, he scarcely had anything. He wrote 17 May:
...expenses are usually higher than contributions, eroding my life’s savings.

ReplyDeleteNo, that's not true. Rather he wrote how a husband is to break his new brides hymen.
I don't believe that such instruction is a ministers responsibility.
Whole situation seems murky and sad.
ReplyDeleteA lot can be said for earning through working for a living.

ReplyDeleteIt is!
One should remember that the Victorians came from or went to the place where there was no hymen, at first.
Hence HWA's enlightened book, for one born in the Victorian age.

How is it a ministers responsibility Nck.

DeleteOnly when they preached the Victorian values first. Then they have a responsablity to undo that. Or if they are the only ones in 50 square miles with an education, like tge 18th century OR Oklahoma.

Herbert Armstrong's generation born in the latter years of Victorian era tended to be known as Edwardian's and not Victorians.
ReplyDeleteHis love of splendour and high attire and making something of oneself points more towards Edwardian thinking than Victorian.

ReplyDeleteAn interesting observation to ponder.
Thank you,

ReplyDelete99 percent of my postings have framed HWA's philosophy as originating within the "American Progressive Era."
Now I must study Edwardian and Belle Epoque too and holiday is over, dang you.

The generation Herbert Armstrong was from was quite an unusual generation.
DeleteA tremendous amount of change was achieved by his generation for better and worse.
As so much of modern history is dominated by the two World wars the pre WW1 years are concentrated on the build up to war and a lot of cultural and social history is forgotten or overlooked.
I feel sorry for Malm Jr., but seriously why does he need $90k to dump his dead dad’s ashes in the deep?! How much does it cost for a cheap box and burial? Surely it’d be cheaper than $90k?! How can his proposal be cheaper at $90k?! It doesn’t make sense to me!
ReplyDeleteI see he has raised $1100. That's more than enough to rent a boat and pilot to go out for a little trip on the water. 90k could BUY a really nice boat.
ReplyDeleteThough i disagreed with Malm he did help to further open my eyes to the COGs. Because the cogs have a strong pharisaical bent, his hyper Pharisaical approach, helped to show how the cogs picked and neglected various aspects of the law. So they can’t claim to be keeping the law. For that and probably sincerity, may malm RIP.
ReplyDeleteEarl, the cogs never claimed to keep the Mosaic law. The claim is that the law has existed from creation, some even before and the Mosaic law was a contract to obey said laws with other laws thrown in that were only for said covenant. Like the physical priesthood, the ceremonial laws, etc.
ReplyDeleteIt was never that hard to understand for those God is really calling.

Jesus Christ spoke of the cause of what you call "...a strong pharisaical bent, his hyper Pharisaical approach..." Christ told them in John 8:44 :Ye are of your father the devil, and the lusts of your father ye will do. He was a murderer from the beginning, and abode not in the truth, because there is no truth in him. When he speaketh a lie, he speaketh of his own: for he is a liar, and the father of it."
Time will tell...
