As long a we're at it.....

The template of youth runs deep. We, as a family, and I as a child sung this of course, in the Dutch Reformed Church. I can picture my mom standing next to me singing the alto and Dad trying ever so hard to act like he could sing at all.

I listen to this day to all the old church hymns when I just want to be calm and away from all the news, views and opinions that don't seem to matter much anymore soaking in.
I still tear up very easily thinking back on so many good things in family who are mostly all gone now.

And if you want to kill me off....

  1. Good for you Dennis.
Memories are precious, especially those of loved ones, of years past.
These hymns are often a reminder of gentler times of a much saner world, than that which we have with us today.
May those memories be a blessing to you.

  3. Dennis I agree with you. I love to listen to many of the old church hymns. One of my favorites is “Amazing Grace”. They are peaceful and inspiring unlike those in the purple hymnal. Thanks Dennis for posting this.

    What the hell, Dennis?

LOL, It's complicated :) I find the emotions of such a very stable and calm family upbringing with lots of great memories are also rooted in the stability and positive experience with my church upbringing. Classic Beaver Cleaver childhood emotions tied to experiences. After all, I was a weird kid who went to AC specifically to be a church pastor as a result of my childhood I imagine. I had three considerations, Roberts Wesleyan college and seminary, Westminster Theological Seminary or Ambassador "Seminary" as I thought it to be in my naivete of the days. When GTA announced and I got over the "what the hell?" "If any of you men came here to be pastors, get that idea right out of your head..." I think he meant, he and the gang would decide that, I mumbled to myself, "oh yeah, we'll see"
    LOL

The music of my sane youth still mellows me out compared to the news.
