It is Thanksgiving here in America where people celebrate the freedoms that allow them access to so much they can be thankful for.
Sadly, for some pretend COG leaders and self-appointed spokesmen, this day is not one that should be celebrated and if you do, you must REFUSE to participate in the Satanic observance of turning on your television and watching Satan's minions play football while being cheered on by scantly clad cheerleaders who are leading the men of God astray.
Where would we be without these hypocritical loudmouths with their endless spiel of pharisaical diarrhea?
Today, God's most highly chosen man from the entire history of Christianity is once more getting his homeopathic knickers in a knot. His very first paragraph is one whiny little bitch-fest of negativity:
Today is the national holiday in the USA called Thanksgiving. And despite certain claims, its specific origins are not pagan. But, of course, no Christian needs to celebrate national holidays like it if they do not wish to (cf. Romans 14). And the Bible does condemn gluttony. And with COVID-9 this year, government officials have warned about family gatherings.
I have never seen God's most amazing prophet ever decry the gluttony of members at the Feast of Tabernacles, at church picnics, or at the annual COG Christmas Party Weekends. Like many in the COG those are times of a foretaste of the kingdom to come and members should enjoy themselves to their best ability.
One thing that I have noticed on the day called Thanksgiving by those in the USA, is when I have been at many other places than the home I lived in, American football has been playing on television.
For many, other than food and family, football is a major focus of the Thanksgiving holiday for many in the USA.
The heavenly realm is weeping at this very thought right now!
The Chosen One then goes on to quote President Obama and others about their concerns over tackle football and then whines that real Christians should not be endorsing it.
He even goes on to quote that other authority on everything, Herbert Armstrong.
....the late Herbert W. Armstrong wrote:
Hostility toward the other is sin…Football (American football) is a violent body-contact sport. It is often played with an attitude of hostility and is dangerous and is fraught with physical injury. (Plain Truth, July-August 1984)Wherever a game in sports involves ANTAGONISTS–in HOSTILE ATTITUDE to harm the other and/or to “GET” from the other–to get the best of the other–then a harmful, Satanic and evil attitude enters in, and the sport is EVIL, not good…football,(American football)…because football is such a violent body contact sport, it TOO OFTEN is played in an ATTITUDE OF HOSTILITY, and is too DANGEROUS and fraught with PHYSICAL INJURY . Therefore it must be BANNED so far as participation by God’s Church or people is concerned…This is sufficient to illustrate the application of the PRINCIPLE of God’s Law to sports. That participated in with an attitude of HOSTILITY toward the opponent is evil. That which HARMS mentally or physically an opponent is evil.Satan is the author of COMPETITION based on hostility, harm to the opponent, GETTING by taking FROM an opponent–to his harm or loss. God’s way is LOVE TOWARD neighbor equal to love of self. (Armstrong HW. Not all sports are banned. Pastor General’s Report, Volume 2, Issue 36, September 5, 1980)
And yet, Herbert watched American football, soccer, "professional" wrestling, and the Lakers basketball games, all of which are filled with attitudes of hostility and vile satanic COMPETITION which TAKES from the opponent. The hypocrisy of COG leaders is appalling but never shocking.
The so-called doubly-blessed apostate then ends with this as he accuses all who watch football of being Laodicean.
...many (including Laodicean Christians) are too selfish to stop watching and encouraging the playing of American tackle football.
Christians should give God thanks, but not encourage violence in sports like American tackle football.
Everything in this world is Laodicean to these pathetic whiny little men leading Churches of God today. "Laodicean" is the favorite perjorative of COG leaders, falsely so-called.
COG members were given brains so they could make their own decisions WITHOUT any of the spiritually bankrupt diarrhea that currently flows from the self-appointed leaders of COGdom today.
So give thanks for your blessings, enjoy your family and friends, enjoy good food and enjoy a game of football on television or in person. God isn't going to turn his back on you if you do, even if these whiny men say otherwise.
Post says: Everything in this world is Laodicean to these pathetic whiny little men leading Churches of God today. "Laodicean" is the favorite perjorative of COG leaders, falsely so-called.

Hmmmm… Wonder how the Bible describes this site?
Oh, forget that, why we here are perfect and you ain’t….
Looking forward to eating turkey, dressing, gravy, cranberry sauce, corn , green beans, salad, pumpkin pie. Then settle back and watch two or three football games. Ah a wonderful day.
ReplyDeleteIt's an established habit in COGdom to be pissed off about any holidays not based on Torah. Even though Thanksgiving was not considered as being "pagan" by HWA, extremists such as Bob Theil would feel compelled to say something negative about it. He'd come up a couple notches in my book if he condemned it for other reasons, like our ancestors' treatment of Native Americans in the centuries following the first Thanksgiving.
ReplyDeleteI enjoyed the opinions of Henry Standing Bear in the Longmire TV Series. Henry refused to eat turkey, and referred to Thanksgiving as "Thankstaking". That was an interesting perspective, although some of my Native American friends do celebrate Thanksgiving with their families. Columbus Day? Not so much.
Be not deceived: neither fornicators, nor idolaters, nor adulterers, nor effeminate, nor abusers of themselves with mankind, nor thieves, nor covetous, nor drunkards, nor revilers, nor extortioners, shall inherit the kingdom of God.
ReplyDeletePerhaps Butthurt Bob needs to work on what the Bible actually condemns in 1 Corinthians 6:9 before he starts inventing new condemnations to inflict on people.
Butthurt Bob is too delicate to play football and that's why he got picked on in Jr and High school. Even though he had a man's man as a Dad, Bob felt he was forced to do things he did not want to do but had to "man up" and do them because his Dad said so. I'm not referring to his second Daddy, Rod Meredith, but his real father, the strict disciplinarian.

If you are so disgusted by this blog why do you read it several times a day? You like to be titillated by the latest COG happenings and then get your panties all wet when Armsgtrongism is exposed as being hypocritical and a lie.
You are entertaining, to say the least.
V. Weird response.
DeleteI'm sitting here eating a ham sandwich as I watch the football game. Later we will have dinner with family and friends with the most delicious bacon sausage stuffing ever! Oh, and the teenagers are across the street in the park playing tackle football. Such a great day!

Why, it’s very simple. It is fun watching to see if you can take it when you are exposed “as being hypocritical and a lie” and, it is clear, you can’t.
Like the famous line from the movie, You can’t handle the truth!
You = the critics here.
Besides, if one cannot criticize the critics, then we live in an unbalanced world. Now, you wouldn’t want that would you?
I think you overestimate the face value of your comment, Anon 3:07.
DeleteI seriously wonder why Bob invited his resident demon to take up residence in his mind?
ReplyDeleteACOG members don't realize how different their mental diet could be. It's only if they read secular writings or watch other religious programs that this becomes apparent.
ReplyDeleteAnd here I was going to send in an offering to the CCOG with my winning bet in the Lions Bears game. I guess Bob doesn't want laodicean money.
ReplyDeleteFootball is bad , but Jesus wrestling with Jacob all night, in a huge spectacle that left Jacob with a severely injured muscle is ok??
ReplyDeleteCome on Booby, a bit of a dichotomy for you , is it not??
My family and I do not watch football at all. I believe football is dangerous and injury producing sport. I used to like playing touch football with my cousins. The sport I watch is basketball and many of the Olympic Sports. These are not pristine sports but they are much less wreckless than American football.
ReplyDeleteThere is a philosophical inconsistency in Armstrongism about competition. HWA used to preach that competition was bad. It was a product of self-centered human nature. Yet Armstrongism was always aligned with conservatism. "Liberal" was always an epithet. And conservatives have always supported a robust capitalism based on...wait for it...competition. Any interference, such as government regulation, with competition is deemed by the right-wing to be socialism. All of the Trumpies and the various right-wingers in Splinterdom need to resolve this discrepancy.
And there is way too much starch and sugar in Thanksgiving. Just so you know...

DeleteThe official ACOG position has always been that capitalism and competition are evil. There has never been any discrepancy. Church culture has always been Marxist. Members lives, property, time and even their minds are viewed as church property. When HWA came out of the closet prior to his death with "government is everything," he was parroting commie literature. He even had the men in his church wear the equivalent of dark blue Mao suits in the 1960s..
The only discrepancy was the black market of members "cheating" by resisting these teachings.
Anonymous 12:56 wrote, "He'd come up a couple notches in my book if he condemned it for other reasons, like our ancestors' treatment of Native Americans in the centuries following the first Thanksgiving."
ReplyDeleteThere is a philosphical inconsistency in Armstrongism about Thanksgiving. (It seems like I am using this syntax more and more.) Native Americans are the Canaanites, Armstrongists think. And Canaanites should not be accommodated but destroyed according to the OT. Israel should not make friends with the Canaanites according to the OT. Yet, part of what the Pilgrims were thankful about was the food that the Canaanites brought to them. Hence, Thanksgiving should be roundly condemned by Armstrongists. Consistent with Armstrongist belief, the pilgrims screwed up by not murdering all the Native Americans that celebrated Thanksgiving with them. Then the first Thanksgiving would have been perfect. Yet they support Thanksgiving as rooted in American history because it carries the theme of gratitude toward God. Go figure.

For myself, I have no issue with football as I'm no sports fan.
ReplyDeleteNot caring to watch football really disappointed my father, who said he only went to college was to play football. I remember back in the 1960s he was watching one of the bowls, and insisted I watch the finish - it was a tie, and time was extended for a sudden death playoff - and he told me "You'll probably won't ever see this happen again". Well, he was right about that, I never did...
At least that other kind of football was on TV today.
ReplyDeleteMay Major League Soccer hold more playoff games on Thanksgiving. The ending of Colorado-Portland was dramatic. (Although Dr. Thiel undoubtedly would oppose that left hook which led to a red card.)
I think football is better than incest, what are your thoughts HWA and Thiel?
ReplyDeleteBob covered up Herbie's incest big-time claiming he "proved" it was all a lie. That alone disqualified Booby from being a leader when he lied about Herbie.
ReplyDeleteI wonder whether anyone ever told Bob about the night when Jacob wrestled Yahshua all night until early morning when Yahshua changed his name from Jacob to Israel.
ReplyDeleteBob like many short men in history, is really a pussy that probably in secret played with his Weiner as he couldn't get it up when trying to make out.
So there you go, Bobby boys real problem is penis envy.
Before Mr Bob points his finger at gluttony maybe he should take a look at his congregation. I know many that are obese. Perhaps acceptance though non-judgment might be a better way to live...
ReplyDeleteAnd remember, this self-appointed spokesman may still be carrying the pain of not receiving the accolades he thought he deserved for his football Attack! speech at Spokesman's Club.
ReplyDeleteI wonder if CCOG is carrying on this WCG institution (ie, Spokesman's Club) or if there aren't enough male members together (apart from Africa) to form one? I remember when I was in the WCG, "the Club" was used by our minister to groom sermonette men.

LMAO! You hit the nail on the head. Bob has always been envious of other men in the church, including Rod Meredith, his go-to Daddy. He can never live up to the stature of being a man's man filled with authority and admired by others. People look at him and laugh.

ReplyDeleteIf you look at his pictures his so-called "membership" in Africa is mostly women and kids. If Bob is using Spokesman Club in Africa or even with his caucasian members, it has been a miserable failure. Just try and listen to his feast speakers and you will be shocked at how BAD they were.

What's wrong with having a ball!
Let's hear from a real prophet, not one falsely so-called like Bob Thiel, who made mention of something inspired by the God of the Old Testament, the LORD of hosts, regarding a certain Shebna:
Isaiah 22:15 ¶ "Thus saith the Lord GOD of hosts, Go, get thee unto this treasurer, [even] unto Shebna, which [is] over the house, [and say],
16 What hast thou here? and whom hast thou here, that thou hast hewed thee out a sepulchre here, [as] he that heweth him out a sepulchre on high, [and] that graveth an habitation for himself in a rock?
17 Behold, the LORD will carry thee away with a mighty captivity, and will surely cover thee.
18 He will surely violently turn and toss thee [like] a ball into a large country: there shalt thou die, and there the chariots of thy glory [shall be] the shame of thy lord’s house."
Would Bob Thiel, prophet falsely so-called, and HWA both condemn this LORD of hosts for excessive hostility for violently turning and tossing Shebna like a ball (foot?)?
Shebna, pictures what is ahead for Satan, who will yet die, even though both individuals believed that spirit can't be killed, destroyed, slain, etc.
The Isaiah 22 context refers to an Eliakim, who pictures the future Jesus Christ, who will, in a sense, replace Satan at some point when Satan is killed...and that is at a time beyond Doug Winnail Mickey Mouse Millennium, b/c Satan has yet to serve time in this pit-stop for a 1,000 years.
Neither Shebna, nor Eliakim, have anything to with being titles for this prophet falsely so-called, whinning Bob Thiel, Weinland, Pack, or Flurry (pick a name).
Will this particular LORD surely violently turn and toss Shebna, whoever it represents, like a ball into a large country, and there subsequently die?
Time will tell...
John
A comment above: The official ACOG position has always been that capitalism and competition are evil.
ReplyDeleteCompetition, maybe - but capitalism?
That's not the way UCG has preached it over the years in its magazines. They leave no doubt that socialism is bad.
2.17 PM
DeleteHWA diplomatically avoided the word capitalism. Instead he took the indirect approach of preaching the socialistic "give way" and hiding that relationships are two way rather than one way. This under the table, sniping attack approach is used when a upfront approach would probably fail. So HWA indirectly rejected capitalism without antagonizing it's supporters.
I've read UCG literature. They are no different. Teaching that socialism is bad is just their lying outer face. A trait of all cults. HWA did the same by condemning communism, but if you look carefully, what he opposed is Soviet communism. The variety that would not let him play church. So he denounced their infiltration of American society and their undermining of the country's morals. He opposed anything that threatened him playing church. But otherwise, he embraced commie doctrines.
Btw, have you ever heard a sermonette or sermon instructing the audience that relationships are two way?
Rod Meredith taught and practiced competition as head of WCG's ministry and as Chief Poobah of LCG.
ReplyDeleteHe loved to pit people against each other.

ReplyDeleteAlthough I will yield to the temptation of sarcasm, satire and being overly critical of Bob, my overall aim is to follow Byker Bob's advice that we are "troubleshooters". So, it is my hope that Bob Thiel looks for the useful feedback that this blog provides, and apply it. After all, if he can improve through addressing the errors we find, it would definitely improve his efforts. Consider it like the feedback the evaluators give to speakers at Spokesman's Club - oh, but he didn't take that criticism very well, did he?
When you think about it, what is the millennium supposed to be? Pretty much communism, only Jewish Kibbutz-style communism, not Russian or Chinese.

Neo: I heard a dirty word while someone was struggling with the lightbulb! How dare youuuuu!

Ben Yoachim: Yes, that's a lightbulb. I have seen many what lit. please stop censoring me.
Random Anon: I once stood in a line at the post office five people away from one of the TOP MEN in WCG, and I just want to tell you that I knew him very well as a result. Huh? Lightbulb?
If competition is bad as HWA maintainied, then capitalism is unquestionably bad, because the engine that drives capitalism is competition. It makes no difference if the UCG just says it is against socialism. UCG needs to reconcile its economic views with HWA's spiritual views.
ReplyDeleteAnother condemnation of capitalism came from Herman Hoeh. His view was that angelic beings were placed on the earth initially to manage flora and fauna. But they abdicated this role and instead tried to set up a self-managing system that permitted them to be absent. This system was based on competition between life forms - known to us as evolution.
One cannot advocate that competition in human relations is bad and competition in managing the species is bad and then advocate it as a beneficial economic force. This is philosophically inconsistent. If Splinterdom wants to advocate conservatism or Trumpism because both are closer to pure capitalist economic systems than liberalism (which is also capitalist in the USA), they need to cast out HWA's dogma. As things are now, they are permanently locked in a philosophical dissonance.
The OT, in spite of what evangelicals say, does not furnish a ground for purely free market capitalism. Taxation was instituted in the form of tithes. Real estate marketing was modified by the jubilee year for instance. Other things.
I am not saying that I know the answer to this dilemma. Maybe Splinterdom can come up with an integrating theory that arrives at consistency across these conflicting views. They seem to be unaware of their inconsistent stance. My guess is that HWA would say that free market capitalism is not going to be permitted in The World Tomorrow. There will instead be a economy of kindness and generosity. The "way of give" not the "way of both give and get." Which means that capitalism is not an ideal paradigm but perhaps only a temporary working paradigm. And the worshippers of free enterprise are worldly afer all.

Yes, we do troubleshoot here, Hoss. The problem is that the people whom we troubleshoot place themselves above us. They say that they are soley responsible to God, and that it is not the place of members or ex-members to evaluate them. That attitude is responsible for every one of them going off track, never sublimating, always languishing in the doldrums, their "works" all but moribund. They are accountable to nobody!
ReplyDeleteHWA burned out, and he left this world with a leadership problem for the church he had started. The reason he did not get serious about appointing someone who could actually take it to the next level was that for all of his efforts, educating hundreds of men at the Ambassador Colleges, in the end there was nobody with the qualifications and experience to build upon what HWA had initiated. Mere imitation may be effective in leading a nostalgia group; almost anybody can imitate. What the WCG needed was a visionary, and none has ever surfaced! The best thing that could be said about the splinters is that they are holding on (just barely) to the faith once delivered by HWA. No breakaway, hyper-blessed group has emerged to take up the mantle, to unify the splinters, and to dynamically fulfil the commission of warning the world about the end times.
If God had truly raised up the WCG, if He had ever had anything to do with Herbert W. Armstrong or the church he started, there is absolutely no way this church would be in the condition it is in today! If anything, the world needs God and His people more now than it ever did during the lifetime of HWA. It is very plain that nothing is happening through the splinters. Either this is not yet the end times, or we need to be watching for the real end times work to emerge!
UCG is a threat because it the largest cog and they have a wide audience and they usually attract the pedophiles and other creeps that land up giving the church a bad name by their bad actions.
ReplyDeleteI agree with Bob thiel about this so many get hurt in football it is best we do not play such violent sports a 16-year-old football player from Farmingville, N.Y. even died at the school called Sachem East High School if there was no football he would still be here today.
ReplyDeleteIn my country, a 16 year old was made a paraplegic after being tackled in a rugby school match. It was painful watching his mother struggling to push his wheelchair. I do not believe such games will be permitted in the millennium.
DeleteBtw, rugby is a 'diluted' form of American football.
I cant totally disagree with you, Anon 8:28. CTE and other effects of repeated head injuries are serious matters. Though I do not concur with Bob's attempts to make it some sort of article of faith.
DeleteSome background to Shebna and Eliakim, mentioned above:
ReplyDeleteIsa 22:25 In that day, saith the LORD of hosts, shall the nail that is fastened in the sure place be removed, and be cut down, and fall; and the burden that was upon it shall be cut off: for the LORD hath spoken it.
“... there is a danger that can befall anyone who is truly responsible and reliable. That danger is spelt out in 22:23-25. Such a person becomes so dependable that people rely too much on him. Like a good, strong “peg” in the wall, everything imaginable, and some things unimaginable, get hung on such a person. A weak or broken peg we do not put so much upon. But the one that is obviously strong and reliable we hang everything on. In this case, there seems to be a suggestion that Eliakim’s family will become a special burden to him (22:23-24). This is still a feature of Near Eastern culture. If one member “makes good,” he is expected to care for and make a place for all the rest, even the ne’er-do-wells and the hangers-on.
“Sadly, however, even the best of us often cannot endure such pressure forever. That seems to be what Isaiah is predicting for Eliakim. Eventually, he will crack under the strain, and all that has been dependent on him will come crashing down (22:25). That such a thing will happen in that setting is entirely predictable. The people have rejected divine resources and are trusting in humans instead. Most humans fail their trust, and this if one turns out to be unusually trustworthy, the loads are simply piled on. But no human can bear what is meant to be rolled onto the Lord (Ps 37:3-6). Even the best person will break under those circumstances” (John N. Oswalt, Isaiah, NIVAC, pp.264-65).
“Eliakim is the very antithesis of Shebna, an ideal leader called and established by the Lord. Verse 24 and 25, therefore, come as something of a surprise. Eliakim’s family are apparently not made of the same stuff as he is. They take advantage of his high position to better themselves and so doing bring about his ruin. The peg gives way under the strain. Eliakim is destroyed from below.
“In the end, then, it is not just the Shebnas of Jerusalem that will bring it down, but the common people as well. What is presented in general terms in verse 1-14 is particularized in verse 15-25, but the message is the same. The failure of the people of Jerusalem to rely upon the Lord will bring both them and their leaders to ruin” (Barry Webb, The Message of Isaiah, BST p.102).
“... it turns out that, as usual, the prophet’s rhetoric has been leading us up the garden path. The declaration has a terrible sting in the tail (v.25). It is a scene worthy of Ecclesiastes. One senior minister is replaced by another, but he will then be replaced. There is no progress...” (John Goldingay, Isaiah, NIBC, p.130).
Bob Thiel was right about this.
ReplyDeleteCapitalism is evil because it is idolatrous and rooted in the sin of greed.
ReplyDeleteI agree with Bob thiel about this so many get hurt in football
ReplyDeleteYes, some years ago when Bob highlighted the film Concussion, I took his recommendation and watched it. There are indeed tragic football injuries.
In Australia, with several versions of football (including soccer) the players don't wear the heavy uniforms of US players - and Aussies can be really rough on the playing fields.
From back in the early 1960s, I remember some public service announcements that pushed protective devices for high school football - in particular, an animation that pushed mouth protection to prevent dental injuries.
So, yes, more care and less carnage is sane advice.
I wonder what Bob Theil thinks of Travis Pastrana. What an awesome athlete and dare devil! He has outshone Evel Kneivel and so many others, and demonstrated what the indomitable human spirit can accomplish.
ReplyDeleteImagine what we could all accomplish if we took a gonzo approach to our lives and professions. Or even religious hobbies in Africa for that matter.
