An LCG source brought the following to our attention. It seems that Gerald Weston is wondering why the kids at LCG summer camps came down with Delta variant.
He writes:
We do not currently understand all the reasons we had an outbreak of the coronavirus at our Texas Teen Camp—almost certainly the Delta variant that hit Texas hard at the beginning of July—but in time we will understand better why God allowed it
Weston says he doesn't understand how the variant spread so fast, then says how it had fertile ground to do so:
We are physical beings, and summer camps are considered risky in the age of COVID-19. And of all types of camps, those like our Teen Camp are riskiest. We had about 240 campers and staff come from all over the country to a place where for two weeks they were to sleep in dorms and eat meals together, and they could not practice social distancing or masking in any practical way. We knew there was a risk, as all it would take would be one individual slipping through the cracks for the virus to spread like wildfire.
The first thing that pops into COG members heads when any church-wide illness breaks out, personal illnesses happen to individuals, or some tragedy hits members of the church, is to ask, "Has God removed his favor because of sin?" or "Were they/or the church lacking in faith?"
Weston then takes a swipe at Sheldon Monson and the Church of God Assembly. It is amazing how bitter LCG is still over this.
Some surely wonder, Why didn’t God prevent the outbreak? He certainly could have. Are we lacking in faith? First of all, it should be recognized that we have been transparent and have not tried to “hide” by not testing for COVID-19 when sickness occurs. We have not concerned ourselves with what others will think—instead, we have focused on honesty and on being upfront. And contrary to what many may believe, the 2020 Texas Teen Camp was not “illness free,” as several who attended the camp have mentioned after the fact, including some who were, themselves, sick at camp. This is not unusual for any camp, of course, and shouldn’t be considered remarkable. But it does help to put the claims of some last summer in perspective.
And this year, one particular group in which some have claimed great faith in God’s protection from sickness also experienced issues with illness in their camp, in some cases severe. Months earlier, the same group had experienced an outbreak at another event, and before long several were hospitalized, including the group’s leader.
Weston does want to make it clear that he only mentions this in Christian love and that he wants it known that just because people get sick in other groups it should not be taken as a lack of faith.
I don’t write these things to condemn anyone, but merely to state the facts and to note that these facts should put shallow claims about faith into perspective. Health challenges such as these should not be taken as signs that those who suffer should be judged as lacking in faith—whether those who suffer are in our group or in another. As I explained earlier, even some of the most faith-filled individuals in Scripture experienced sickness and calamity, and their faith was not shown in God’s miraculous protection, but rather in their godly obedience, attitude, and even gratitude as they endured those trials.
Weston then seems to refer to Monson and others who have left LCG as their "enemies".
Concerning those who have fallen ill, in our own organization and in others’, we are grateful to God that most have recovered, and we grieve for those who did not—again, whether in our organization or even among those who have left us. Many of us have prayed for their welfare. As David wrote concerning some who had attacked him and acted as his enemies, giving us perspective and something to meditate upon,
Fierce witnesses rise up; they ask me things that I do not know. They reward me evil for good, to the sorrow of my soul. But as for me, when they were sick, my clothing was sackcloth; I humbled myself with fasting; and my prayer would return to my own heart. I paced about as though he were my friend or brother; I bowed down heavily, as one who mourns for his mother. But in my adversity they rejoiced and gathered together; attackers gathered against me, and I did not know it; they tore at me and did not cease; with ungodly mockers at feasts they gnashed at me with their teeth (Psalm 35:11–16).
Never fear though, while they are LCG's enemies they must continue to pray for those lost souls to find their way back into the true fold.
David’s words are consistent with Jesus Christ’s command to each of us to “love your enemies, bless those who curse you, do good to those who hate you, and pray for those who spitefully use you and persecute you” (Matthew 5:44). Dear brethren, we must follow God’s inspired instructions—and that includes loving and praying for our enemies, even while they may despise us.
Weston then gets into disfellowshipping members who can't heed the governmental demands of LCG. It is interesting how they are so against members showing discord when their entire church is based upon Rod Meredith, Don Davis, Raymond McNair, and others sowing great discord as they very publicly rebelled against the mother church (only after it has sent millions defending Rod Meredith's big mouth in the Leona McNair lawsuit). Then, in the ultimate act of rebellion, they slapped down Raymond McNair, took all of Global's monies and most of its members in order to start yet ANOTHER splinter group. Of this one blessed True Church, it has birth at least 7 new splinter groups. Sowing discord has been LCG's legacy from the very start.
Does it make sense to believe and follow the reports of clearly divisive men? God hates division! I quoted Proverbs 6:16–19 in my “Dear Brethren” letter, and it is worth examining again. Notice the things that are listed along with divisive men—just as He hates those who sow discord, God says He hates “a false witness who speaks lies” (v. 19). I personally have been accused of “taking the Church into apostasy” as Mr. Tkach did. Brethren, are we not able to see how outright foolish such an accusation is? Where is the evidence? Have any of us in leadership positions hinted that we are not to observe the seventh-day Sabbath or the annual Festivals and Holy Days? Have we ever implied that we should stop distinguishing between clean and unclean meats? Have we gone against any of the 18 truths God restored to His Church through Mr. Herbert Armstrong? Have we neglected Christ’s commission to take the Gospel to the world? You should know the answer to that.
The fact is that over the last two years, the Living Church of God has had to face circumstances and make decisions that neither Mr. Armstrong nor Dr. Meredith faced—just as they faced things in the past that we have not had to deal with. We have had to make decisions regarding whether to limit the sizes of our Festival sites, whether to require masks and social distancing, and whether to worship together online in some situations. It is interesting that splinter groups that have decried online services are now of necessity holding online services. Brethren, we ought to be able to recognize rumor-mongering lies when we see them. And, of course, true Christians do not listen to divisive people who try to paint every decision in a negative light. Instead, true Christians follow Philippians 4:8: “Finally, brethren, whatever things are true, whatever things are noble, whatever things are just, whatever things are pure, whatever things are lovely, whatever things are of good report, if there is any virtue and if there is anything praiseworthy—meditate on these things.”
Weston then goes on to tell LCG members what they should do when they come up against divisive members (excluding themselves, of course).
Yet, while God tells us through Paul that we are to avoid those who cause division, this does notmean that we do not pray for them when they get sick or that we fail to pray that they may see the error of their ways. We are happy when a neighbor, a coworker, or a member of virtually any group—even those who have criticized and derided our decisions and efforts—recovers from serious illness. After all, we too are physical, and we suffer the same trials as our fellow human beings. Our real enemy is Satan the devil, the great deceiver.
We are not the only ones who in the last two years have had to shut down a camp early or cancel a camp due to the novel coronavirus. Virtually all Church of God groups have had outbreaks of the coronavirus and other illnesses as a result of a camp, family weekend, funeral, Feast, or other activity. This is not to say that all Church of God groups are the same or that all are doing the will of God, which brings me to another point.
Weston then goes on to discuss what LCG members should do with those who are no longer part of the chosen church:
Some among us see the various Churches of God descended from Worldwide as “all believing the same thing.” But if that is the case, why have they divided the Church by rejecting Dr. Meredith, who with the founding of the Global Church of God in late 1992 was clearly doing the Work of God by preaching the Gospel to the world (Matthew 28:18–20), giving the Ezekiel warning message (Ezekiel 33:1–7), and feeding the flock (John 21:15–17)? Many who went a different direction freely admitted that Dr. Meredith was already doing these things when they left Worldwide. On the other hand, we have other members who mistakenly believe that anyone in a group outside the Living Church of God is an apostate.
Weston then goes on to take a swipe at Bob Thiel and others who have left the one true church to form their own groups. It's going to frost Bob Thiel's sanctimonious butt to hear Weston say he and others make outlandish prophecies and that it is difficult to see Christ leading him and the rest of the rebellious heroics at all and that he has essentially gone NOWHERE! I can hear the butt pain all the way down here in Pasadena!
I was recently asked for my thoughts regarding these other groups, and here is what I explained. Some organizations that call themselves “Church of God” are clearly not God’s Church in any way, although there may still be some of God’s people among them. These are often the ones led by a single authoritarian leader who takes advantage of people, pressuring people to donate homes or life-savings they may need themselves someday. They make wild and continual claims about when the tribulation begins and other outlandish prophetic utterances. Some forbid their members from fellowshipping or even associating with family members if they are not members of their group. It is difficult to see Christ’s leadership in these groups in any substantial way at all.
Then there are groups that splintered off from us, rebelling against the leadership of the Church under Mr. Armstrong, Dr. Meredith, or me, and these have essentially gone nowhere. God is not going to honor division. These do not normally reach out to the world in any significant way, but fish in the pond of God’s Church, thus further dividing the Body of Christ and diminishing its ability to do God’s Work. While some make more noise and last longer than others, they virtually all end up splintering further and failing to do the Work of God in any significant way.
Pretty much like LCG is experiencing! As it splinters further and further the church is rapidly shrinking with no discernible message to the world.
Weston then lashes out big time against Thiel, Pack, Flurry, and others for their decisive tactics:
And that brings me to one final aspect I’d like to address concerning this whole matter. From time to time we see individuals who set themselves up to try vainly to bring all the “Church of God” groups back together. If only the leaders would get out of the way, we could all be together, they think. Rather than uniting people, these movements eventually separate people and further divide our efforts to do the Work of God. How often we see someone act as though only the “independent” can “serve the unserved.” How often we see un-ordained individuals attempt to bring groups together socially, as though that is the most important thing.
Brethren, do not get caught up in these movements. They will fail in the end, but in the meantime they further divide and distract people from doing the Work. We have a commission—let us not fail in fulfilling it!
LCG's commission is just as big a fair as Bob Thiel's. No one knows who LCG or even what its message is.
As for camp, I am grateful to be able to say that, in the eyes of most who attended, the Texas Teen Camp was not a failure. Despite having to close so early, we still heard from several campers and staff that it was their best camp experience ever. We were able to work with our staff, including a newly formed group of “high school” staff who caught the vision of where we want to go. This was a good start for next year. Lessons to be learned from this year will become clearer as time goes by. Where the world will be next year, we cannot know, but whatever happens, we trust that Jesus Christ is in charge and that He is working out a plan that we will better understand in the years ahead.
Always remember...Christ is in charge!
their entire church is based upon Rod Meredith, Don Davis, Raymond McNair, and others sowing great discord
ReplyDeleteRod Meredith later turned against Don Davis and Raymond McNair, sowing great discord against them (and many others). Loyalty in the ACOGs is not a two-way street.
Pitiful reading.
ReplyDeleteThe hypocrisy.
I want to puke.
I hope those bast**ds who call themselves Gods ‘true’ church and its ministers read this article and the following comments.
Won’t make a hill of difference to them I am sure ,except raise their righteous indignation to a higher level than us mere mortals.
Gerald Weston deceitfully cherry picked Psalm 35. I suggest readers read the whole chapter.
ReplyDeletePsalm 35:4 "..may those who plot my ruin be turned back in ruin.
5.May they be like chaff before the wind, with the angel of the lord driving them away.
8, May ruin overtake them by surprise. May the net they hid entangle them. May the fall into the pit to their ruin.
So Gerald has chosen to teach Kenneth Copeland Christianity rather than biblical Christianity. He should be consistent and join Kenneth Copeland ministries. There he can teach his audience the smooth things they want to hear, including partiality towards evil.
When Weston implies (incorrectly) that COG Assembly (Monson) has fared no better than LCG, he makes the case for COGA. LCG has spent the last year-plus cowering in their basements, cancelling assemblies, wearing masks, being afraid to sing. Maybe COGA was no more successful in avoiding covid (debatable) , but at least they lived as Christians should. They assembled together weekly, greeted with handshakes and hugs, sat next to each other, sang joyfully to God, had campouts, potlucks, winter family weekends, a full youth camp, picnics, fellowship and did everything a church is supposed to do. LCG wasted the past year because they were afraid.

DeleteI'm not a LCG member and never have been, but I agree with them on this one. COVID is hitting the elderly the hardest. If your handshakes, hugs, sitting next to each other, etc, had resulted in COVID deaths, there would have been an outcry. Criminal prosecution and lawsuits may have resulted. In my books, LCG exercised their duty of care to their mostly elder members.
Your macho talk sounds like that of an inexperienced young person.
I believe LCG is afraid of government persecution and persecution in general. I have inside info.
DeleteDamage control, pure and simple. They seem to do a lot of that at LCG.
ReplyDeleteLCG wasted the past year because they were afraid.
ReplyDeleteLCG spent the past year reaching millions with their understanding of the Gospel. COGA hung out with friends, sharing their cooties.
Yes, if your goal is to be a self-satisfied Christian, you can make a case for COGA. But if you are in the traditional WCG/ACOG mode, it's hard to fault LCG for continuing its mission as they did, balancing the safety of their older membership (COGA has lots of hardy young folks) with their need to carry out their mission.
I wonder if any of these ACOG leaders stop and think before they speak, or maybe they just don't care.

ReplyDeleteMr. Weston, you may want to reconsider retracting such a statement. I strongly suggest you reexamine the work / fruits of the various groups that spilt off from LCG.
Their is an organization in particular, that has restored the lost love of the truth which has seemingly mostly disappeared in LCG. This group I'm referring to I have actually messaged you about in which I received no direct response from you.. but none the less. Their work seems very prophetic and reminds me strongly of a scripture:
New King James Version
Jesus answered and said to them, “Indeed, Elijah is coming first and will restore all things.
In a way, Weston shot himself in the foot by instructing his readers to adhere to Philippians 4:8!
ReplyDeleteThe delta variant is only 0.03 % different from the original and your immune system can handle a virus that is 25% different from the original. This is all total bullshit. It's all about selling mRNA therapy. It has nothing to do with Jesus or health or healing or faith.

Weston, lacking faith, asked why other church break-off organizations from WCG rejected Dr. Meredith?
It's very simple; ask the former WCG hirelings who left their ministerial credentials behind in Pasadena and many of them will remind Weston as to why they rejected Meredith. Here is what some would answer:
"We don't want to come 'under the Rod' again!" They had enough of Rod during his WCG/Pasadena days.
I find Weston's lack of faith disturbing! But he is welcome to that lack of faith.
Remember? Remember how the WCG brethren were told, in the face of trials like losing their jobs b/c of desire for Sabbath observance, by the former hirelings of WCG: "Just have faith. God will work it out. Hang in there. Just have faith, brethren!"
Of course, the hirelings were not fearful of losing their jobs; however, when it came their time to consider observing the Sabbath vs. losing their jobs as hirelings under Joe Tkach senior, where was their faith? Hypocrites (Recall Jesus' words of Matthew 23!) they were as they tucked their tails between their legs and fled Pasadena's WCG, leaving their ministerial credentials behind, and created other organizations as splinters.
The were all scattered, and over time in that scattering were people like Weston, Winnail, Kubik, Franks, Flurry, Pack....on and on! Where was their faith?
So, did they all believe the same thing? No!
And Weston would have us believe that he and Meredith (since 1992? What has been accomplished as to today, 6 Dec 2021????....next year????0 were clearly doing the Work of God (another god?) by preaching the Gospel (another gospel?) to the world, giving the Ezekiel warning message (Didn't God inspire Ezekiel to give his own message?), and feeding another flock!
Really? How do we know that all of those who scattered (John 10) and fled were driven by another spirit (James 4:5; 2 Tim 2:26; I John 3:8, etc.?).......other than God's Spirit (which at one time led Christ into a wilderness).
Who is in control of the living group? Any scattered group?
Weston says: "...we trust that Jesus Christ is in charge..."
Vic Kubik disagrees with Weston's trust, and on 2 May 1995 Vic read the final words of a memo written by one of the ministers, who left his ministerial credentials behind in Pasadena, to create the United Ass., and those words were:
"...Be careful who gets control. Make sure it’s God."
Is Jesus Christ in competition with God. The leaders of Living and United still believe that Jesus and God had no beginning, that Jesus is God of the Old Testament. Who is in charge.
God inspired the preserved Bible to tell us that there would be a falling away, a scattering, that laodiceans would come into existence, and even that God does His own work. How do these leaders fit into that picture of apparent confusion?
Time will tell...
John
LCG has become such a bitter organization..."For the pastors are become brutish, and have not sought the LORD: therefore they shall not prosper, and all their flocks shall be scattered." - Jeremiah 10:21
ReplyDeleteThey NEVER focus on the scriptures that point out their (ministers) sins and problems....it's always the brethren's fault. It's sad that they think this type of gaslighting and bullying is an effective way to manage people.
SMH...
This Splinterist preacher wrote, "As I explained earlier, even some of the most faith-filled individuals in Scripture experienced sickness and calamity, and their faith was not shown in God’s miraculous protection, but rather in their godly obedience, attitude, and even gratitude as they endured those trials."
ReplyDeleteIn this he veers away from early classical Armstrongism. When I first came into the WCG, Armstrongism seemed to be pre-occupied with a transactional relationship with God. I think to a great extent it still is. The transactional formula looks like:
"If you do A, then I will do B"
This is a formula, hard and fast, for either blessing or cursing - Mount Ebal and Mount Gerizim. It has a Deuteromomic flavor. We find this transactional proposition stated repeatedly in Deuteronomy. But the OT sounds a clarion counterpoint to the Deuteronomic model. And this is found in the book of Job - about the man who met the conditions of the Deuteronomic model and nearly drowned in abject adversity. And the book of Job is in the same Hebrew canon as the book of Deuteronomy. And then we can go from Job on to the NT where transactionalism is a small sideshow, where good things are given and not earned.
There is a mystery in the working of God, not accounted for in the bare logic of the Deuteronomic model, and the book of Job draws back the curtain of mystery and permits us to glimpse negotiations that are not otherwise seen. Armstrongism seems immersed in the Deuteronomic model and seems to be assiduously counterworking the mystery.
But this is finally self-desctructive to these little apocalyptic Millerite denominations. First they are of the mindset that if they are faithful to God then they will be protected from all adversity. Then adversity happens, as it always will. Then rancorous judgmentalism gets traction. Those who know confidently that they are righteous look around peevishly and suspiciously for the faithless culprits in the congregation who contracted Covid. And division sets in.
So a statement against division in the congregation must be accompanied by, at least, some partial abandonment of the transactional model - some recognition of nuance - dare we call it grace. And that is what the quotation at the beginning tends toward.

"Then there are groups that splintered off from us... God is not going to honor division."
ReplyDeleteThat is not correct. Weston needs to read 1King 12:1-25. King Rehoboam was adviced to "serve them today. Give them what they are asking for. Then they'll always serve you." But instead, he decided to oppress his people, resulting in the loss of most of his domain. God used natural forces to rip most of Israel from his grasp to fulfill his promise to Solomon. The above applies to all governments throughout history. Governments that oppress rather than serve their subjects are unstable and often over thrown. HWA and his minions have always accused splinters of rebelling against God or their "rule" but always hid that it's their iron fisted rule and abuse that caused the splintering. They play the blame the victim card.
America is about to splinter because of Biden's misrule. Is that just a case of rebellion against Gawds government?
I should add that there are some people who prefer a transactional God. They want a God who is bound up in stipulation so that God will be controllable and predictable. And they then want to "hold God to his promises" like Philadelphia lawyers. And inexplicably they accompany this view with a much attentuated doctrine of grace so they bargain from a position of almost zero power. They never meet the Deuteronomic conditions, they just presume they do. They need to spend a lot of time with the books of Job and Jonah so they can finally graduate to the New Testament. My two cents ...

They'll throw a party to celebrate and go and join Connie's crap song group.
DeleteI believe LCG is afraid of government persecution and persecution in general. I have inside info.
ReplyDeleteThis may sound like conspiracist nuttery, and I wish I could reveal more detail, but at least one LCG HQ worker is also on the payroll of a federal intelligence agency. Because of this, LCG is at a much higher risk of being busted for some kinds of offenses, but because of the inside infiltration LCG is also protected against other kinds of attacks that might displace a valuable intelligence asset.
Weston is digging a deeper hole with this letter. It certainly sounds as if he's losing control and the flaws in his character are coming out as the heat is being turned up. He is not known for having love and compassion for others. The hypocrisy, the lies, and sins that roams the halls in Charlotte and runs throughout the ministry is such a stench. What Weston is doing is a stench.
ReplyDeleteWeston allows his director of ministry to speak lies from the pulpit. He himself speaks lies when he speaks of the mighty growth their "work" is doing. He allows his own ministry to lie and preach hate against people AND HE DOESN'T DO A THING ABOUT IT. A lying spirit has descended upon LCG. Hopefully in time, people will be able to see the rumor-mongering lies the Living Church of God is pushing out. Weston should follow is own words and reflect on Philippians 4:8. If so, he wouldn't have written this letter. He should examine himself when it comes to division. It's HIM, the ministry, that has divided the people. It's Weston that's allowing that church to enter into apostasy again. It's not doctrine they are playing with, it's GOD'S LAW they are breaking, with the lies, setting themselves up as gods, spiritually trying to kill people (they had to recently address their stance on abortion) and they are doing it right in front of the people.
People are starting to wake up, after years of being put to sleep by boring, dull, uninspired sermons. Keep talking Weston! The more you talk, the more you reveal yourself and the more you'll help people move away from your church.
Weston bases LCG's legitimacy and supremacy on its ability to do a public outreach via TV but what does that matter when he and his ministers are out of touch with the people's needs?
ReplyDeleteSo what if you have an office and a TV program when in your spare time you are disfellowshipping brethren by email and not responding to members who are trying to get back in?
Weston talks about loving your enemies? He can't even love his own brethren in the church when he disfellowships by email (over prophecy disagreements) and refuses to cast out demons.
Why didn't we all follow Meredith out of WCG? Why didn't Meredith continue to follow WCG before it went into apostasy? If he had a legitimate excuse to leave, then don't others have a legitimate excuse to leave him?
It is clearly evident that the PHONEY LCG is more interested in MAKING MONEY than in anything else!! “Then I will confess to them, “I NEVER KNEW YOU.” It is a house build on sand and will NOT STAND!! You can take that to the bank!!
