Commercial Break: YES Lesson: "Incoming!"

"And I saw Satan fall as lightening from Heaven. He got all tangled up in the power lines before falling right into the Nave"

The story of Satan's Fall is an Astro theological explanation of the Planet Venus and the puzzling rise and fall it, as an inner planet, experiences in all it's pre-sunrise brilliance that puzzled the minds of those determined to explain it theologically. Back in the day, the stars were considered spirits. Venus has always been the "Lucifer" or "Light Bringer", i.e., the morning Sun. It was not generally realized that the planet Venus in the post sunset sky was the same thing. If it was, it was considered "The Morning Star" escorting Lucifer, the Lightbringer back to the darkness of the Underworld, i.e night.

Incoming!

Leave it to an artist!

Holy Trinity Church, in MaryleboneWestminster, London, is a Grade I listed former Anglican church, built in 1828 and designed by John Soane. In 1818 Parliament passed an act setting aside one million pounds to celebrate the defeat of Napoleon. This is one of the so-called "Waterloo churches" that were built with the money.

The first burial took place in the vault of the church in 1829, and the last was that of Sir Jonathan Wathen Waller in 1853.[2]

By the 1930s, the use of the church had declined, and from 1936 it was used as a book warehouse by the newly founded Penguin Books. A children's slide was used to deliver books from the street into the large crypt.

The Holy Trinity Church in Marylebone, Westminster, built specifically to celebrate the defeat of Napoleon, hasn’t been used as a place of worship since the 30’s, but that didn’t stop artist Paul Fryer from making a religious statement by hanging this terrifying statue of Satan inside.

The piece, titled “Lucifer (Morningstar)” is a wax sculpture depicting the devil snared in a set of power lines. The statue is equal parts grotesque and beautiful, showing Lucifer as an oily, black creature with immense white wings (created from real feathers). Even creepier in the fact that it’s lit via the church’s stained glass windows, an ironic juxtaposition that won’t be lost on many.

"Well, that didn't work..."

  1. Is this what Basil Wolverton's art work reminded you of? Really disgusting! How long will it be until someone posts a picture of a pile of steaming dog crap?

  2. I think that is a very beautiful work of art.

  3. Dennis, Dennis, Dennis! I understand that you're just messin' with peoples' heads, kind of like the Stones or Ozzie do. But surely some readers are going to rush to judgment and proclaim that you have finally crossed over to the dark side! Mr. Evilution, if he's still around will probably remind us that Dennis spelled backwards is "sinneD"

It's already happened- Dave Pack won the Golden Turd Award some time ago.

Speaking of Pack, I know a great place in Wadsworth for that Satan figure...

  6. What is this incessant fixation by Diehl on evil things? For a person that doesn't believe in God, Satan sure keeps his mind working overtime.

That pretty much describes the current state of affairs in all the COG's.

  8. Thank you for your post Dennis.
That ‘artwork’ by Paul Fryer is indeed grotesque, most certainly not a thing of beauty in my eye.
There are many parallels of the stories of scripture from myths and legends down through the ages and within many different cultures. Fascinating subjects to explore. But what alternative to scripture and these many different myths and legends can atheism give us?
‘Atheism is a long hard cruel business’ from none other than Jean Paul Sartre.
Wall Street Journalist Peter Berkowitz asks ‘why the twentieth century embrace of secularism unleashed human depravity of unprecedented proportions’?
In Tortured for Christ, Richard Wurmbrand gives us an idea of the Tartarean depths to which the atheist state will go to in crushing faith.
The ‘wickedness’ of faith cannot hold a candle to the unfathomable abysses of blackest evil perpetrated by those acting against faith. The historical facts are settled and written in the blood of over 150 million souls, a number hard to fathom by atheist secular regimes who brought unparalleled suffering to us in the last century.
We have yet to see an apology and acknowledgment from atheists for the carnage they have brought upon mankind.
We see something similar within ‘Christiandom’, a lack of acknowledgment.
Alternatives? Even noted atheist Antony Flew spoke of his ‘ growing empathy with the insight of Einstein and other noted scientists that there had to be an Intelligence behind the integrated complexity of the physical universe’.
It was interesting that Flew , Sartre and Camus amount others, all atheists of note came to the conclusion that life is not happenstance.
Life is complex and eminently interesting.

  9. This is what you get when you surround yourself with items of pagans. All those Indian artifacts carry the demons of the pagan gods they worshipped. That is why God had the Israelites destroy the idols of those around them. Bad mojo all the way.

It's a clever piece of artwork in a interesting place depicting a Biblical tale in Isaiah.
As usual, no one challenges the fact that the story of Lucifer's rise and Fall is actually the astro-theological expression in scripture of the phenomenon of the morning star Venus and it's apparent rise to the position of Most High, i.e. noon, only to be cast down.

Go ahead please. Tell me "No really, the Satan fell out of the sky and landed on Earth!"

  11. And too... the misery of non-belief and a life not lived to the tune of old hymn of "Trust and Obey for there's no other way, to be happy in Jesus, but to trust and obey" is imaginary.

The idea that the artifacts of cultures long gone now are items soaking in demonic worship is simply stupid. Don't ever go to a museum. The Boogey Man might get you.

  12. I used to think that giving the middle finger of grammar to satan, by refusing to capitalize his name was a funny jab - but this artist, given the last picture posted, found a new way to humiliate satan, by depicting his junk with a mere stump.

  13. Revelation 22:16 “I, Jesus, have sent my angel to testify to you about these things for the churches. I am the root and the descendant of David, the bright morning star.”

Revelation Jesus also refers to himself as "the bright morning star" or Lucifer=Light Bringer. This verse is used by some to imagine Lucifer and Jesus as being brothers.

Hebrew helel means bright. The planet Venus has long been associated with the passages.

"Lucifer [1] is one of various figures in folklore associated with the planet Venus. The entity's name was subsequently absorbed into Christianity as a name for the devil. Modern scholarship generally translates the term in the relevant Bible passage where the Ancient Greek figure's name was historically used (Isaiah 14:12) as "morning star" or "shining one" rather than as a proper noun, Lucifer.[2]

As a name for the Devil in Christian theology, the more common meaning in English, "Lucifer" is the rendering of the Hebrew word הֵילֵל (transliteration: hêlēl; pronunciation: hay-lale)[3] in Isaiah [4] given in the King James Version of the Bible. The translators of this version took the word from the Latin Vulgate,[5] which translated הֵילֵל by the Latin word lucifer (uncapitalized),[6][7] meaning "the morning star, the planet Venus", or, as an adjective, "light-bringing".[8]

As a name for the planet in its morning aspect, "Lucifer" (Light-Bringer) is a proper noun and is capitalized in English. In Greco-Roman civilization, it was often personified and considered a god [9] and in some versions considered a son of Aurora (the Dawn).[10] A similar name used by the Roman poet Catullus for the planet in its evening aspect is "Noctifer" (Night-Bringer).[11]"

    1. Yes, I know about helel, but I dont think there's a proper noun equivalent in early Hebrew? The business of "SATANS REAL NAME" is a later invention. IIRC, anyway.

C'mon, Dennis! Didn't you see 'Exorcist the Beginning'?

The Byzantines built a church and buried it at the spot where Lucifer fell- I think it was a desert somewhere in Kenya.

  15. I am a member of a particular Band of an American Indian tribe that worshipped the Morning Star (Venus) a couple of centuries ago. A part of their worship was to sacrifice a captive girl from another tribe to the Morning Star. The Morning Star was not the Creator but a member of a pantheon. Two members of my family, back in the early 19th century, started a faction that opposed these sacrifices. One of them rescued a girl who was to be sacrificed and carried her away on horseback. In the years after that, the sacrifices ceased. Some theorize this ritual was adopted from the Aztec. I think it is more likely to have come from Cahokia. Today most of the Band is Protestant and they probably are not even aware of this history.

We are all descended from pagans. Humans have a strong inclination to worship - something that has no value in natural selection. After the rebellion that is allegorized as the Garden of Eden incident, humans found outlets for their desire to worship. It led into some disgusting directions. Ancient Celts worshipped Bel. I don't know who the ancient Germans worshipped. It is all documented. Members of my family, generations back, decided to oppose pagan practices as a matter of principle. To my knowledge, they were not influenced by Christianity. They just acted on the inclinations of their heart - natural law. It is good to remember this tawdry history and those who, from time to time, struggled against it. This is part of what Christ delivered us from. Maybe that is the lesson of this liturgical artwork.

Initially, I thought of Santa/Satan and Omicron/Moronic, but Anon you did reminded us "...that Dennis spelled backwards is "sinneD"...", which upon considering another thought reminds me of sin that dwelled within an Apostle:

Romans 7:17 Now then it is no more I that do it, but sin that dwelleth in me.

And if we don't believe Paul there, he went on to say this:

:20 Now if I do that I would not, it is no more I that do it, but sin that dwelleth in me.

And if that weren't enough, Paul went on to speak of something called evil present with him:

:21 I find then a law, that, when I would do good, evil is present with me.

And then, we have another Anon comment:

Maybe Dennis is onto something worth consideration regarding evil. Wouldn't Bible-believing Christians be learning to hate evil? Shouldn't they learn to recognize evil? Learn to discern between good and evil? Or, did God and the Bible lie to us again?

Don't Christians have a fear of the LORD and love the LORD?

Psalm 97:10 "Ye that love the LORD, hate evil:..."

Proverbs 8:13 "The fear of the LORD [is] to hate evil: pride, and arrogancy, and the evil way, and the froward mouth, do I hate."

And we know love is a fruit of God's Spirit. So, fear of the LORD must also be what?

God, The God, the LORD hates evil, as other verses will consistency emphasize; however, God does not tell us to hate Satan and his vile, evil, angels, which seem to be carriers of evil, which were made to be destroyed (2 Peter 2:12) later beyond the Mickey Mouse Millennium (former WCG hirelings preaching "another Jesus" very soon to return to reign on earth) and the Day of the LORD.

Radios pick up signals/music that may be AM (Amplitude Modulation) and/or FM (Frequency Modulation), but one cannot transmit signals with just Amplitudes and/or Frequencies by themselves; they need a carrier signal to transport that Audio.

Satan and his angels are like carriers, or to use another analogy: like an automobile that eventually will get old and finally end us in some scrap yard and be destroyed.

How does Satan and his angels accomplish doing their evil wills? Hints are I John 3:8, 12; James 4:5; Hebrews 2:14-15; 2 Tim 2:26, etc. You can do your own study, but...

God's Spirit has good fruits/works; Satan's spirit has evil fruits/works associated with it (Romans 1:29-31; Galatians 5:19-21).

It is God's Spirit that overcomes/overwhelms Satan's spirit/nature which, in turn, overcomes/overwhelms a human being's "very good" (Genesis 1:31) human nature as illustrated by the sin within and the evil present with us.

Dennis and his blog is exposing some of the evils all about us. So, should Bible-believing Christians be learning to hate evil?

    Time will tell...

    John
