@wwcga.com A video from COGWA's Family Dance, Feast of Tabernacles 2023. Is this God's Holy Spirit? Would God approve? repent. #cogwa #fot2023 #bransonmo ♬ original sound - WWCGA.COM
It is another day in the Church of Godland and another self-appointed guardian of the church is having a coronary. It seems that those fun-loving folk in COGWA did the YMCA dance at their Branson, Missouri Feast site and as you can see from the notations on the TikTok above, the Kitchens did NOT approve! Bad COGWAites! Bad!
I was disappointed when I first saw it, I thought it was Bob Thiel's group, but alas, it was not. Bwana Bob apparently prefers the Mr Grumpy Pants dance.
Can you imagine being in Petra or the so-called "kingdom" these guys think they are all going to be part of and how incredibly depressing and boring it will be?
What else would you expect from cogwa? They water down every thing that is called holy, their ministry is being filled with untrained people who headquarters tells them sink or swim. They are so afraid of losing any one who has money but the old or sick the local minister here in Roanoke Va. has told the elderly to die that's your healing. Also has said go and die that's your place of safety. One day we will all be judged by Christ.
ReplyDeletedie...that's their healing? Does that Roanoke VA minister also expect us to use Ecc. 7:1 as further reason to not celebrate birthdays? He'd rather us lean toward day of death instead, eh.
DeleteIf that entire sentiment were taken literally, since Eden, then shouldn't Adam & Eve ought to have "went on strike" so to speak regarding childbirth, just until they presented a Book Of Job style discussion with The Father, politely asking Him to consider removing Satan 1st before bringing Abel, Cain, etc. here to just grow old and be a nuisance like the curmudgeonly Roanoke minister thinks of his elderly members?
It would be a guaranteed way to never have arguments in COG over whether to celebrate birthdays, or not...
I guess that next time, they should do the Macarena!
ReplyDeleteOne thing that never ceases to amaze me about Armstrongism is how trends, styles, and crazes that were criticized from the pulpit when they were actually enjoying their first run of popularity are embraced decades later, when the only remembrances of them might occasionally be found in the cut out bins at your local Goodwill store!
But, I can't forget that everyone else seems to do the same thing. Who ever thought that there would come a time when one would be shopping at the local supermarket and hearing Led Zeppelin songs in the music mix on the store PA system!!! Obviously, I still have the well-worn original vinyl myself, but the WW-II "Boogie Woogie at the USO" generation would most likely have a panic attack over that if there were any of them left around with their hearing intact!
Many former LCG members will remember in years past seeing Carol Weston, now wife of LCG's Presiding Evangelist, dancing rather wildly (by ACOG standards) at LCG Family/Winter Weekend events.
ReplyDeleteOthers will remember that Gerald Waterhouse traveled a great deal, and knew very well that it was fun to stay at a YMCA.
Even many snobbish ACOG members who look down on pop music and stick to classical compositions would be shocked to discover the perverted themes of the operas for which so many classical pieces were originally composed.
If Song of Solomon were sold as a novella, most ACOG ministers would deride it as soft-core porn. So what are we to do about that?
Be careful if one chapter is Eze. 23:20 & keep the kiddies back till you 'splain it better.
DeleteKitchen has it wrong about what the youth were singing! Kitchen's group , calls itself the "Worldwide Church of God Archive " aka WCGA.
ReplyDeleteSo perhaps the kids were singing "Y (as in WHY!!) W- C- G-A !!!!???
Mock it all you want but this is demonic and leads God's children into sin.
ReplyDeleteI agree 9:33
ReplyDeleteDemonism is infecting all of God's church right now. It is a time for repentance before things get so bad and the times of trouble catch everyone up short.
"Demonism is infecting all of God's church right now. It is a time for repentance before things get so bad and the times of trouble catch everyone up short."
ReplyDeleteIf I were you I would put the crack pipe down for a while and engage your brain. Those demons sure seem to have such great power over so many of you.
Crack pipe ? Does the average clean living person even think like that ? Shows the world you dwell in.
DeleteYes, crackhead, it"s a common expression indicating that your commentary is so absurd that they're wondering about your state of mind.
DeleteThe absurdity of the Armstrongite mindset is nowhere more apparent than in the realm of music. If Satan is busily influencing today's music, what is the rationale for saying that he wasn't also influencing the music of the past (some of Wagner's music is pretty dark). Armstrongites also exclude a whole lot of Christian music, "because it is full of error." My question: What's left? What music is acceptable to their god?
ReplyDeleteI remember at the ‘feast’ in Rotorua NZ at a singles event a band at our function started belting out a new Rolling Stones numbers. Well the dance floor filled and we all went on to have a great evening. Ever heard of any backlash, and while it did raise a few eyebrows, the evening brought a smile on many a face.
ReplyDeleteAs to YMCA, I remember it was all the craze when I was younger, as to if it’s an ‘gay’ icon, I don’t know or care. There are many well known songs which have very dubious backgrounds of which many are unaware or simply don’t care.
Still enjoy ymca and a few of the ‘stones’ numbers. And occasionally I have a peak at some old recordings of the Sex Pistols.
Actually, the Pistols' record is one of my favorites. Snark and silliness aside, its just a great use of rhythm for a bunch of mangey white kids.
DeleteMaybe they should have been dancing to the "donkey butt" song...
ReplyDeleteI like the song. It is innovative, carries a good message, and the tune is quite “catchy”. And by the way, I’m a Christian in good standing with my creator.
ReplyDeleteIn honor of the Kitchens I have been playing Village People all day here at work.
ReplyDeleteIt was even more disappointing when the WCG plagiarized the Big Bird character and called its copy Big Beak. The WCG should have been able to come up with good stuff of its own rather than copy worldly stuff from a grungy television show like Sesame Street.
ReplyDeleteHey, they plagiarized it SO WELL, that I remember dating a lady from Hannibal, MO back then when we were both WCG singles, & she almost got in arguments with me over how SURE she was that the actual Sesame Street Big Bird became part of WCG literally. But in reality, "Big Beak" yellow facsimile character was in a 1980s WCG Feast video viewed at all sites. Pasadena tried being really "hip" & "with it" those days.
DeleteMaybe Dave Pack is plagiarizing the date-setting game that Harold Camping dabbled with.
11:03, that Rolling Stones number didn't happen to be "Sympathy for the Devil", did it?
ReplyDeleteActually, when I think of dancing to the Stones music, the first song that comes to my mind is "Brown Sugar"! But then again, we couldn't have all the young single guys looking for the nearest girl of color as dance partner to that, now could we? Not even a little bit? Even if it would be fun for the guys and the gals? Somehow I don't believe the ACOGs are into the new millennium with that quite yet.
Huh? That's nothing didn't Clyde Kilough at his last President UCG GCE Ministerial fun show get dressed up in full cowboy gear and sing 'Rings of Fire' song ? whilst throwing rope hoops around ??!
ReplyDeleteCrack pipe ? Does the average clean living person even think like that ? Shows the world you dwell in.
ReplyDeleteCocaine use has been documented in at least two of the families of splinter group leaders. That's the world you dwell in, so your sanctimony is ridiculous.
Did you know that The Village People were paid actors and did not legally own the band or their music.
ReplyDelete11.05, "are you smoking a crack pipe" or similar, often appears in the comments section of YouTube videos. But definitely not acceptable in the Puritanical ACOGs.
The drug dealers at Imperial Schools and Ambassador College were are children of leading evangelists and high ranking pastors. At most Feast sites there were parties that drugs could be used at.
ReplyDeleteYup. In at least a number of the local congregations too. If you were looking for a teenage drug dealer, it was usually the kid of one of the "favored" families.
DeleteExposing the reality of the dangers of being part of the 'elite'. Garner Ted's gross double life was never exception to the rule, he was a major warning sign that rotteness was dwelling in the 'elite'.
DeleteSin in the WCG and its Splinter Groups
ReplyDeleteAt its peak in 1988 the WCG had about 150,000 people attending. It appeared that people knew something and believed something and obeyed something.
Unfortunately, behind the facade there was all sorts of sin going on in the WCG from top to bottom. The sin at the top of the WCG led to the Great Apostasy of January 1995 and the WCG exploding into many little splinter groups, and the sin at the bottom of the WCG led to a lot of fucked up little people.
Now, all the sin from top to bottom in each of the splinter groups is preventing them from growing, and leading to more splintering and decline.
Not all, (but enough for it to be a trend) of the ministers' kids were also the ones who were getting away with all the fornication.
ReplyDeleteIt also used to just blow me a way to see big, new Chrysler New Yorkers tearing up and down the streets of Pasadena, some evangelist's kid at the wheel.
In my church area, the Sabbath masks were ditched as soon as HWA died. It was replaced by the previously submerged 'right to sin' belief. Those with a sense of morality were hunted by these 'sin zombies.' There's a reason that zombie movies and TV series are so popular. People can relate to the phenomena in their every day life.
ReplyDeleteThat sounds completely made up.
DeleteAnonymous at 11:44 AM said...“In my church area, the Sabbath masks were ditched as soon as HWA died. It was replaced by the previously submerged 'right to sin' belief. Those with a sense of morality were hunted by these 'sin zombies.'”
ReplyDeleteI noticed all that too. Many WCG people did not seem to have truly repented. They still loved their sins but kept quiet about it until the apostate Tkaches made sinning great again. Then people went right back to sinning more openly and proudly instead of hiding it.
Well, is it queer or not queer? What are the facts?
ReplyDeleteThe personal moral failures of ACOG leadership were never a major problem for most of the membership. They would simply excuse the behavior by pointing to David and saying that God used flawed men. After all, these guys were preaching "THE TRUTH." This also underscores the fascination of that culture with Trumpism. As long as their leaders are preaching what they want to hear, their personal behavior doesn't matter to them. The real truth cuts like a knife and makes people mad!
ReplyDeleteWhat were people doing there if they liked to sin so much? Why not just go to some other church? Or why go to any church at all?
ReplyDeleteAnonymous at 7:48 AM said...“What were people doing there if they liked to sin so much? Why not just go to some other church? Or why go to any church at all?”
ReplyDeleteHWA had people afraid that they had to go to the WCG in order to escape to Petra or else they would fry in the trib. The Tkaches removed that fear and released the sinning.
7.48 am, Until Internet use became widespread, most members were unaware of the moral failings of the church elite. Knowledge of GTAs womenising was common, but was viewed as an aboration, with the elites still viewed as virtuous. When their sinful lives became public, I don't believe most members excused their misbehavior, but were aware that God did used flawed figures such as David and Balaam.
ReplyDeleteIt is strange that the COGs play YMCA as much as they do. It is beyond reasonable argument to deny the gay male overtones. But, granted, it is upbeat and gets a crowd going and it is not explicit.
ReplyDeleteAnonymous 7:48. The ACOGs use the business model in order to attract and keep numbers. So they make their churches "sin friendly." Church members get away with all manner of sins that would not be tolerated in the real world. So ministers typically side with the abusers rather than the abused.
ReplyDeleteThese churches are like a Disneyland for sinners. The same is true for outside denominations.
The Disneyland for Sinners Churches of God.
What's the Kitchen's beef with this, anyway? Did COGWA members just dance to this song, or was this a gay-themed social that they put on? About fifteen years ago, there were "pimp and 'ho" dances on some college campuses, but somehow I never imagined a COG as picking up on the major trends of the times. They always called that stuff "worldly" back in the days of classic WCG. I'm a little bit surprised at the departure from big band sock hops, but hey! Sooner or later there must be concessions to time! Hopefully they finally get to listen to "Hound Dog", "Lucille", "Cathy's Clown", and "Blueberry Hill".
ReplyDeleteThe splinter groups seem to be getting away from any interest in religion. For example, Gerald Flurry is now wasting the time, energy, and money of his followers in the PCG on endless Irish dancing.
