Joplin Devastation

Pictures of Joplin Missouri tornado.  Absolutely amazing to see.  Sadly we will soon be subjected to a rash of COG ministers claiming this is a sign of the end times or God spanking these people because they are not Sabbath keeping LCG members.

Check out this article for a lot of other pictures: Daily Mail: Joplin Tornado

Click on pictures to enlarge for a realization to the magnitude of the damage done.

  1. Evidently nature does not abhore a vacuum. My heart goes out to all who have had to suffer through this as with all others such as in Japan.

It is just weather in the Spring and we humans can be in harms way for sure.

I idea that wind, rain and fire is the Deity's way of "trying" to get our attention is paleolithic. It is what humans imagine to explain these amazing yet natural forces on the planet.

Live on a shifting plate-get an earthquake

Live on the slopes of a Volcano--get buried in ash or burned out.

Live in the North--Snow in winter

Live in the Midwest--Tornadoes in Spring

Live in the Pacific NW--earthquakes, tsunami's and magma

Live in Australia--get an occasional Kangaroo through the windshield.

All the "pagan" gods of the OT are weather and agriculturally related save for the occasional, "send me your sons and daughters to eat" ones. It's how we explain our world, appease the gods and why the world is full of temples where they must be served or else.

Strange how grown men and women suspend all understanding of nature and all science truly so called over the past thousand years and pull out the book to explain our natural world and how it works to keep itself balanced.

The concept of God "trying" to tell humans something has always been a bit strange to me. I still say the Deity just needs to offer seminars, a nice lunch and a face to face question and answer session in person of course. Yet...without the drama having to go before where 1/3 of everyone and everything that gets caught off guard dies

  2. Live in the Southeast--get an occasional hurricane or two. Every time something devastating happens, even a car accident, bank robbery, or a murder, Not a day goes by that I have to hear about how we are living in the time of the end from my relatives and in-laws who are still held captive by Herbert's loony "ministers".

  3. So how does this all work, seeing that a member came into LCG services and shot the minister and several of the members dead?

I suppose it fulfills prophecy because the LCG is corrupt, preaching false prophecy.

It sort of makes a perverse kind of sense, really, don't you think?

  4. Say, wait one darned minute! Isn't Joplin the home town of a prominent Armstrongist "Evangelist"?

If that's true, isn't this a WARNING from the ALMIGHTY GOD to a FALSE PROPHET to give up his TV program???!!!??!!

  5. " I still say the Deity just needs to offer seminars, a nice lunch and a face to face question and answer session in person of course."

Yep. Noah's Flood was like WWI- totally unnecessary and preventable. All god has to do is come down here and communicate via his ESP to every human that 1) he is real and 2) exactly what he expects us to do and 3) leave a bunch of angels to head off any human violence before it starts.

Of course, that all depends upon who he is. If he is indeed the god of the Bible and he did drown all the children of the world in a Big Flood, then I'll just raise my hand and take the Lake of Fire. I don't want to live in his Totalitarian World of Tomorrow where we will stone children and homosexshuals.

  6. That old superstition about disasters being God trying to get our attention still resides in the "tapes" in the back of my mind and I have to consciously overide them. It is no walk in the park to root out the superstitous nonsense.

As long as we are in this material life, we have to resign ourselves to the old principle that "s++t happens." Human influence is probably behind much of the weather related disasters. They seem to be getting much worse and I can't put it down to just better reporting.

MY COMMENT: Or, at least give us an 800 number, or how about an e-mail? I mean, come on! Why does He "talk to us" from a book that has been manipulated and interpolated throughout the ages? He's smarter than that, isn't He? He tells us to trust no man, but HE does???

  8. It's interesting to see how God evolves out of the scripture.

Genesis begins where God is just chummy as can be with humans and available. Then He speaks a bit with Abraham but is not seen much and comes to wrestle a bit with the ancestors. (Can God wrestle?)

Then God talks thru clouds of cloud n fire or the occasional burning bush.

As humans become more conscious and less robotic, God needs the King to interprete him and then the priests.

Later we throw bones, cast lots, go to mediums and ask questions of the Urim and Thummin. All trying to get back in touch with God.

As humans get more conscious, and writing comes along, the word becomes God and tells us how it all is. God speaks thru his prophets, priests, apostles.

    But ever he fades.

Then he speaks to us through his son who never wrote anything and about whom we have little or no real info from history.

Then the Son disappears and informs us with a holy spirit which you have but everyone else is of the devil and his spirit.

Then priests only can tell us what the spirit says.

Then people get the spirit and tell the priests they are full of it.

Then it happens in visions and we get real truth through as single apostle who went to heaven but won't fess up to what he saw telling us it was merely amazing.

The voice of God is heard by all and then by none.

Then we all ask, "Why art thou so far from us..return oh lord...."

And poof, he is gone and still we wait....

It would seem that the god who created the universe with magic could spare some supernatural energy to ensure that his word wasn't left in the hands of "fallible humans." But...we must all have faith in His Big Mysterious Plan.
