Dennis on : " The Rest of the Story....Um...NO"

The Rest of the Story....Um...NO

Dennis Diehl - EzineArticles Expert AuthorWell actually there rarely is the rest of the story in some of the more controversial accounts in the New Testament of Church events.

I've recently been reminded of the Apostle Paul's admission that he didn't always do the right thing and in fact could not do the right things so he didn't.  (Romans 7)  He hems and haws around making up a convoluted explanation of how , no matter, it is not really him that is doing it.  It is sin in him and sin that has a hold of him that does it.  Really?  Ok, great.   But that's where the story ends.  We never hear if anyone asked him to elaborate on just exactly what his sins and struggles were.  Did no one ask "So Paul, since you are the Apostle and we are to hang on your every word and perspective, just what exactly is it that you do that you should not do?  And what is it that you should do that you can't do?  We'd like a list."

Of course, Paul just ends with a big oh well...Jesus took care of all this so no more questions please.   I bet lots of people asked him or others just what exactly he was getting at and it probably did affect their confidence in him.  I mean this is the same Paul that is bouncing people out of the congregation in I Corinthians 5-7 and making up lots of rules for who you can and who you can't hang around or even eat with.  But Paul never went on to say, "And you can't eat with me either because I can't do any better than they do."

It's a rather confusing picture.   After Paul turns the one poor soul over to Satan for the destruction of the flesh, we don't know if the guy died and if he did , did he have any family that blamed Paul for being a bit too hard on the guy.  Later Paul lightens up a bit and encourages the Church (maybe after Paul got a dressing down for being such a hard ass,)  to not let this guy or someone else be overtaken with too much sorrow, but hey, letting Satan take you out can do that to a guy.  Seems no one got to Judas in time for betraying the Gospel Jesus but managed to get to Peter for denying him.  Whew....gotta save those Peters.

(aside: Darn....the Mormon guys were headed right for my door and turned around...)

Paul had a way of telling you stuff without really telling you stuff.  Recall he went to the third heaven but couldn't share the journey with us.  He had a thorn in the flesh, but could not tell us exactly what it was.  Did bad things but don't ask.  Didn't do the right things, but again don't ask.

I bet lots of folk asked Paul lots of questions but we don't know the end of the story save for Paul evidently won out.  We don't even know exactly when or why Paul was executed in Rome.  Well I bet lots knew but perhaps the real reason was more embarrassing than inspiring.  We'll never know.  We didn't get to write the story.

My favorite is the story of Ananias and Sapphira in Acts .  Simply stated.  Two members said they would give the money from the sale of their property to the "Church."  When it sold, they held back and gave less.  Peter the Great gets really angry and "zap" you're both dead.  Let that be a lesson to the church.  Now...most of you realize I think this fairytale was a story meant to tell Paul and Luke's followers to ignore "Peter the Great."  Just as these two said they would do one thing and did another and thus died, so Peter said he'd do one thing, never leave Jesus, and did another, denied him.  Message:  Don't follow Peter.

But let's assume it's a real story and Peter really did strike these generous folk dead for holding back.  Do Roman's let you kill church members and never ask what is going on?  Do relatives who notice that mother, father, uncle, aunt, niece , nephew, grandma or grandpa went to church but were never seen again ask questions?  I'd think so!  Would not news get out of murder in the Church?  Would not some members leave because "well that was a bit extreme!?"  I'd think so!  But alas, we'd never know.  The left over members just took the warning and probably turned in all their stuff to the church as requested.

In Acts 15 Mark and Paul have a falling out.  Paul won't have anything to do with him for past offenses or perhaps common senses that Paul didn't like.  You know..like trying to tell Dave Pack maybe it's not a good idea to reinvent Ambassador College in the Winter spending millions we don't have on a place few will come to.   Other places say the problem was so bad that Paul didn't ever want anything to do with Mark, well at least not until Paul needed him for something at the end of his life.  But what was the problem?  Dunno!!  That part is not included.  It never is when someone has to win and someone has to lose.  Paul was not the kind who ever lost.

Saul/Paul says he oversaw the death and persecution of people in Jerusalem.  Did anyone ever come after the man when they found out he was now one of them?  Who didn't believe it?  What were the jokes about Paul the Apostle Now?  Dunno.  The losers don't write the story.

You can take this principle of there never being the rest or the other side of the story back to the OT as well.  Moses kills an Egyptian...so what.   Hey, where is my dad?  So what.    Isaac almost gets his throat cut like a cow in sacrifice by DAD!   How did that set with him over the years?  How did being saved just in the nick of time affect his religious views of YHVH?  Did he go on mountain vacations with DAD anymore?  Did he trust DAD when asked to take a little walk with me son? How did, "your father did what!!!!?"  affect Sarah the mom?

Anyone get offended at God for zapping Lot's wife for looking back at what was going on or how about how she may have felt when old Lot offered up her daughters to the crowd to be raped but please don't hurt my visitors?  I'd think dinner that night could have been a bit tense.  We' don't know do we.  Fairy tales are like that.

I'm sure you can think of dozens of stories where we know what happened but we don't know the fall out and there had to be fall out big time.

And so it is today.  Humiliate someone just enough to look righteous but leave lots out .  Mark and embarrass people just enough to come out on top and show your authority, but show no real love and cover the damn thing up with the love so often professed.  A man should talk about his own failings and not let others dictate the terms.

People with normal human failings can be pushed by Churches, scripture and the pristine leader types over the edge in despair.  Shunning or marking, disfellowshipping or "making an example of" can get someone killed or make the terrible person that is so different from the righteous ones end their lives in shame and guilt.  Guilt is "I did a bad thing," while shame is "I am a bad person?"   Both are fairly useless emotions and tools.

I think I am finally ready to break out and start my own Church of God.  I have resisted for years but I think I have found my niche.

I would like to announce the beginning of a new Church of God.  Church of God of the Exiled, Marked, Shunned, Marginalized and Thrown Away.

Thiel: Baron Guttenberg Rejected! Again!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Guttenberg getting troops ready for upcoming invasion
 of Arroyo Grande, California.

Poor Baron Guttenberg.  He was to give a speech recently and students walked out on him. Nothing special about that since students walk out on all kinds of speakers.  However this is different.  This has a Church of God connecting with Bob Thiel's bromance with the guy.  Thiel is so fascinated with Guttenberg that he is reading all kinds of prophetic nonsense into the life of Guttenberg.

Thiel writes:

Earlier this week, former German Defense Minister, Baron Karl-Theodor zu Guttenberg, faced insults and rejection when he tried to make a presentation in the USA at Yale:
A group of about 15 German Ph.D. students staged a walkout Wednesday afternoon against a talk on “Myths of the Transatlantic Relations” by former German Defense Minister Karl-Theodor zu Guttenberg.
Guttenberg — who had served as Germany’s defense minister from October 2009 to March 2011 — resigned after he was determined to have plagiarized a 2007 doctoral thesis in law…
“You’re not welcome here!” some protesters shouted as they left.
“I would say something about it if you could stay,” Guttenberg responded. “And also about shame, also about failure.”
“No, we actually have to work on our dissertations,” one protester responded, sarcastically. “We’re heading to the library.”  http://www.yaledailynews.com/news/2012/nov/08/grad-students-stage-walk-out-against-former-german/?cross-campus

Here is the Church of God connection.  Talk about stretching ones thinking to make things fit end time scenarios!  The more Thiel writes this kind of idiotic nonsense the more he discredits himself.

Bible prophecy warns about a leader who was rejected who will rise up and lead Europe per Daniel 11:21-44. One verse to focus on is verse 21. Here are four translations of it from Catholic and Protestant sources:
21 And there shall stand up in his place one despised, and the kingly honour shall not be given him: and he shall come privately, and shall obtain the kingdom by fraud. (Daniel 11:21, Douay-Rheims)
21 “‘His place will be taken by a reject, a man spurned and passed over for advancement. He’ll surprise everyone, seemingly coming out of nowhere, and will seize the kingdom. (Daniel 11:21 from THE MESSAGE: The Bible in Contemporary Language © 2002 by Eugene H. Peterson. All rights reserved.)
21 And in his place shall stand up a contemptible person, to whom they had not given the honor of the kingdom: but he shall come in time of security, and shall obtain the kingdom by flatteries. (Daniel 11:21, ASV)
21 ‘And stood up on his station hath a despicable one, and they have not given unto him the honour of the kingdom, and he hath come in quietly, and hath strengthened the kingdom by flatteries. (Daniel 11:21, Young’s Literal Translation)

Interestingly, the Baron was considered to have had a major chance to become Chancellor of Germany before the plagiarism scandal. In a sense, he was “a man spurned and passed over for advancement” as THE MESSAGE version of Daniel 11:21 indicates.
Here are some comments from Barne’s Notes on Daniel 11:21:
The Hebrew word rendered “vile” – נבזה nı̂bezeh – properly means one despised or held in contempt, Isaiah 49:7; Psalm 22:6 (7). The meaning here is, that he was one who deserved to be despised, and who would be held in contempt – a man of a low, base, contemptible character. Vulgate, “despectus;” Greek ἐξουδενώθη exoudenōthē…
And obtain the kingdom by flatteries – חלקלקות chălaqelaqqôth – “lubricitates, blanditioe.” “The word,” says Elliott (Rev. iv. 133), “has a double sense, being applied both to the slipperiness of a path, and the slipperiness or flattering and deceit of the tongue.

Mark Armstrong: American Nation Is Now Sodom

Mark Armstrong wants you to know that American has now fallen to the bottom of the barrel and it's only hope is a small remnant of COGers left to usher in in God's miraculous kingdom.

Our captivity is complete, the nation’s descent into something akin to Sodom assured. The results will be maddening and heartbreaking. Our formers allies will suffer, we will suffer, the world will learn what it means to be without a free and strong nation standing against tyranny as we devolve in to a socialistic mire of debt, regulation, and forced compliance with mandates that offend our conscience and violate our faith.

For now, we have a remnant of the blessings God has so generously provided in keeping with His promises. But our end of the covenant has been violated, by greed, by vice, by deceptions made to appear irresistible by corrupt media.

E W King Speaks Out On "Sissy La La's"

ht:James PT

One of Armstrongism's wackiest splinter cult leaders is talking about "Sissy La La's" tonight. What's a Sissy La La?  Republicans who have whored themselves out to the Democratic left.

Republicans sissy-la-la’s

Republicans sissy-la-la’s regarding Moralism
Sadly, those in the Republican Party have tried to deny their true connection with Christian morals and values. Because they now seek popularity, money and power they are abandoning their true Christian moral stand. The Forefathers of America [Manasseh] didn’t care about what other fallen pagan nations thought. They were willing to die for true morality! Even if they were a Remnant!
What you can expect to hear from your fallen Republican party is a denial of their Christian morality. Their whole argument for existence will be about economic stability, world control and money control minus Christian morality. They will claim that they have no problem with Homosexual-marriage, Divorce, Abortion or legalizing bad Drugs. They simply want money and power.

Now even the fallen apostate world of Christendom no longer believes in moral absolutes. Thus, America will fall just as God’s word proclaimed that it would. This is sad but at the same time, for true Christians [members of the “Worldwide Church of God” & COGSR] it means that God’s coming Kingdom is right around the corner!
Watch now how the fallen Republican Party fights for Abortion, illegal Hispanics, Gays and Drugs. They are more concerned about numbers than Truth. Christians will die for Truth…not numbers or fallen pagan acceptance!

Melvin Rhodes: Did UCG Go Behind His Back To COGWA?

James Malm has a comment today about information he received concerning the Melvin Rhodes debacle.  While Malm's prophetic and legalistic rantings are foolish, he does have many sources that feed him information that has proven over time to be pretty accurate.  This was on his blog today:

I have now received a small package of information from COGWA.  They say that no person in the COGWA ministry knew anything about the Rhodes matter until a person from outside COGWA brought it to the attention of a local elder.

This strongly supports other information coming in that it was a UCG conspirator who sent a representative to COWA to stirr this up,  It seems that this UCG man wanted to dethrone Rhodes and blacken COGWA at the same time.

I am quite confident that this was a power play by an arch liberal  master conspirator WITHIN UCG, to remove Rhodes and set up a man who will begin the final phase of the UCG apostasy..

He has this about Webber:

By about 1990 in the Tkach Worldwide Church of God, Victor Kubik was in charge of ministerial services aided by Robin Webber.  They acted as a vicious  enforcement arm of Joe Tkach, to root out and remove anyone in the ministry or in the assembly who was not inclined to go along with the evangelical changes being instituted.

This is so true.  Webber and John Kennedy were referred to by many as HQ's SS Guards.  These guys made the lives of many so incredibly miserable.  Webber was at command in ministerial services and disfellowshipped many people for not following the new teachings.  He did this will sitting in SOG Apartments 360 and 380 conspiring with Kubik and others about starting UCG.  They are all snakes in the grass and UCG members should beware!

Robin Webber New Head of United Church of God.

Robin and Susan Webber

I about coughed on my coffee this morning when I read that Robin Webber is now the new head of the United Church of God.  All I can say is, "God have mercy on those poor souls!!!!!!!"  Some people worship the ground he walks on.  I find him to be a jerk, especially since I have seen him in action for several decades.

November 8, 2012
The Council of Elders met at 4 p.m. ET to discuss various items of United Church of God business. On the agenda was the selection of a new chairman.

Long-time church pastor and member of the Council, Robin Webber, was selected to be chairman for a term that will continue through May 2014. He and his wife, Susan, live in Southern California. Mr. Webber will serve as chairman of the Council, and also of the General Conference of Elders.

President Dennis Luker told the Council that he looks forward to working with Mr. Webber, and reminded everyone that their long friendship goes back to the time when they both served in the Southern California area.

Did COGWA Instigate The Current Melvin Rhodes Debacle?

Malm is reporting that the individual that Melvin Rhodes had his affair with is in COGWA.  COGWA is ready to go through a huge trial in New Zealand that will expose the underhandedness of COGWA in their break away from United Church of God.

Franks is now one of COGWA's leaders and knows the scoop on a lot of shenanigans of UCG minsters.  Many are wondering why Franks dug this affair of Rhodes up at this point in time considering it had been "repented of" years ago.  Is this a dig by COGWA at UCG for the soon coming court trial?

I have a feeling we will soon see a lot of mud thrown around from both churches towards each other.  Doesn't it make you PROUD to be COG member today????!!!!!!

After the split Doug Horchak  became Ministerial Director for COGWA and along with Jim Franks knew most of not all of the issues in the ministry of both COGWA and UCG; including the problems of Melvin Rhodes which were no secret in the Rhodes congregation.

At the same time Vic Kubik and Melvin Rhodes knew most of the ministerial secrets of both ministries as well.

The UCG has launched lawsuits against COGWA and engaged in defamation and slander against people associated with COGWA especially in Africa.

Now the New Zealand law suit is coming to a head and will be extremely negative for COGWA and COGWA needs a distraction.  COGWA also is deeply offended by UCG attacks.
The timing of this UCG crisis could not have been better for COGWA.

Dennis Luker on Melvin Rhodes Resignation

Dear Brethren,

The warning in Holy Scripture is plain. Writing across time to members of  the precious Ecclesia—literally “the called-out ones,” who are given the priceless gift of the Holy Spirit—the apostle Peter deeply cautions us: “Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil walks about like a roaring lion, seeking those whom he may devour” (1 Peter:5:8Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil, as a roaring lion, walketh about, seeking whom he may devour:). That warning is for member and minister alike. There is no distinction. Both can fall prey to the deceiver who never sleeps if we neglect full use of God’s power. If we stumble, most of the time we can correct our spiritual course privately with God’s help. In other situations, for the spiritual health of the Church, we must acknowledge some transgressions publicly.

Such is the situation today. It is with a great deal of sadness and a heavy heart that I must inform you that Melvin Rhodes has resigned from the Church’s Council of Elders. He has also resigned as an elder and as an employee of the United Church of God, an International Association.

The apostle Peter also taught us that “love will cover a multitude of sins” (1 Peter:4:8And above all things have fervent charity among yourselves: for charity shall cover the multitude of sins.), and it is my fervent hope and expectation that Mr. Rhodes and   all those involved in this situation will receive this divine love in abundance in the coming days and years. Forgiveness is a godly miracle, and as we are forgiven, so are we expected to forgive (Matthew:6:12And forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors., Matthew:6:14-15[14]For if ye forgive men their trespasses, your heavenly Father will also forgive you:[15]But if ye forgive not men their trespasses, neither will your Father forgive your trespasses.).

The personal repentance of sin is generally a private matter between God and the individual Christian. However, the nature of this situation (including the importance of the position that Mr. Rhodes previously held and the regrettable fact that those against the Church may seek to twist this tragic condition for harm), requires that we provide you with additional information. This is painful, but it is necessary to be transparent and honest. Simply put, a number of years ago Mr. Rhodes engaged in unchristian behavior that was unbecoming an ordained minister and in violation of both biblical standards and our established policies.

This occurred a number of years ago, but it only came to my personal attention   a week ago. In conformance with established Church policy and biblical standards, Victor Kubik, operation manager of Ministerial and Member Services (who also   was without any previous knowledge this matter), and I immediately set about   to investigate the serious claim against Mr. Rhodes. He was overseas at the time, but he quickly came to Cincinnati at our request on his return.

In meeting with Mr. Kubik and me earlier this week, Mr. Rhodes admitted this unchristian behavior and offered to resign from the Council, even though he   had privately repented years ago. We accepted his resignation, and based on our responsibilities and scope of authority, relieved him of ministerial duties   pending notification of the Council of Elders. Mr. Rhodes also offered to resign as an employee and elder if so requested by the Council. Since the behavior in question is prohibited by scriptural standards, the Church’s code of conduct and other policies, the Council promptly and rightly directed us to request the resignation of Mr. Rhodes from the ministry and as an employee of the United Church of God, an International Association. He did and is fully cooperating with the Council’s directive and the investigation.

As I noted in an earlier correspondence to our elders and employees, if additional information comes to light the Council and administration will take further action as needed.

It is obviously extraordinarily painful for all, and Mr. Kubik and I—together with the entire Council of Elders—request your prayers for the healing and   forgiveness of everyone involved in this situation. We also request your prayers for the protection and shielding of the Church from “the fiery darts of the   wicked one” (Ephesians:6:16Above all, taking the shield of faith, wherewith ye shall be able to quench all the fiery darts of the wicked.) who doubtless would like to use this situation to harm the Church.

Whenever a situation like this occurs, our faith can be shaken, and we will feel that our trust has been betrayed. All people are fallible, and leaders   too often let us down. That is why we must always, and I mean always, look   to the true Leader of the Church, Jesus Christ (Ephesians:1:22And hath put all things under his feet, and gave him to be the head over all things to the church,), and to God   the Father and His Word as our example of godly leadership and for our salvation.   The United Church of God has a structure that preserves and protects our doctrines, provides checks on abuse of power, and has policies in place for the investigation   and appropriate application of disciplinary action against ministerial misconduct once discovered. When these policies are not followed there are also consequences for those failing to do their duty.

Lest we or others outside of our fellowship be quick to judge wrongly, we must also all humbly remember that “all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God” (Romans:3:23For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God;, emphasis added). While we may be forgiven by God of our sins, our sins may still have serious consequences.

The Council has already begun the process of selecting a new chairman. I sincerely invite you to pray with a solid and renewed sense of urgency and resolve that God would direct and bless His Church through our Elder Brother and soon-coming King.

While asking you to remember the Church—the spiritual Ecclesia—in your daily prayers, I also hope that you are fasting regularly as Christ directed   us to do (Matthew:6:16-18[16]Moreover when ye fast, be not, as the hypocrites, of a sad countenance: for they disfigure their faces, that they may appear unto men to fast. Verily I say unto you, They have their reward.[17]But thou, when thou fastest, anoint thine head, and wash thy face;[18]That thou appear not unto men to fast, but unto thy Father which is in secret: and thy Father, which seeth in secret, shall reward thee openly.). Over the past year or so all of us at the home   office have developed the tradition of fasting one day during the last week   of the month. The point is for us to draw closer to God so we can more effectively   do His work. We have not publicly talked about it because God tells us to “not appear to be fasting” (verse 18).

However, given the present circumstances, I invite you to join with us this   month and choose a day to fast for the Church, that we may all collectively   offer ourselves as “living sacrifices, holy and pleasing to God” (Romans:12:1I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, that ye present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable unto God, which is your reasonable service., New International Version). That way, as Paul instructs us, we will be better   able to “test and approve what God’s will is—his good, pleasing and perfect will” (verse 2, NIV).

Thank you from my heart for your continued prayers and support. May God be with us all as we humbly submit to and serve Him.

In Christ’s service, Dennis Luker

UCG's Melvin Rhodes Resigns Because of "Unchristian Behavior"

November 1, 2012

Dear Fellow Elders and Employees,

It is with deep regret that we must make the following announcement to you.

Dennis Luker, president, received a letter on Friday, October 26, that made a charge of unchristian behavior against Melvin Rhodes. Immediately an investigation was initiated according to established Church policy and a meeting was set up with Mr. Rhodes regarding the matter.

After meeting with senior Church administrators, Mr. Rhodes admitted that unchristian behavior had taken place a number of years ago, and voluntarily resigned from the Council of Elders. The Council was immediately informed by the administration, and directed that Church administrators request Mr. Rhodes also submit his resignation as an elder and employee of the Church. Mr. Rhodes voluntarily agreed to do this and is presently in full cooperation with the Council’s directive.

The Council and administration will continue to examine all information in relation to Mr. Rhodes’ past conduct. If further action is warranted, the Council and administration will take whatever steps are needed.

Roc Corbett was next in line for the Council and has been seated. A new Council chairman will be selected as soon as possible.

We ask your prayers for Melvin, his family and all concerned.

Sincerely,
Dennis Luker
