Today is the 28th anniversary of HWA's death. Every year some Armstrongites believe HWA will be resurrected and come back to whip the church back into shape. The only problem now is, which campus will he return to and to which church.
Herbert Armstrong Goes to His Reward
I feel sorry for those people that still believe in almost worshiping this man and his dogma. What can be said to free them from this thought slavery?
ReplyDeleteMaybe nothing. Maybe its as simple as a life event that jars them back into reality.
I was at the funeral.
ReplyDeleteIt turned out to be a very hot day, unseasonably warm with bright sunshine. Well into the 80s, making it tough on the crowd if they were wearing suits.
Everybody was wondering if GTA would show up. Indeed he did, with a grand entrance, coming in by limousine. However, when the limo shut off its engine, it continued to "after run" or "knock" for a good 45 seconds before finally shutting down with a loud and profound hiss and collapse. My friends with me at the time and myself all had a good chuckle.
Ted looked magnificent, with puffed hair, that looked almost like it was "chromed". I have no doubt that he had a professional hairdresser for that day. Roman Borek, quickly ran to the limo, and escorted Ted to his assigned seat in the front row. It appeared that all the other Armstrong relatives were really happy to see him.
When the hearst came with HWA's body, it had in front of it a police motorcycle escort, with two motorcycles. I thought it inappropriate that one of the motorcycles had a styrofoam "Union 76" ball on the antenna.
Interestingly enough, the last person to leave was JWT. He made sure the body was buried. There were only flagstones on the grave. A couple of years later, Tkach commissioned a very nice headstone to oversee the on the ground flagstones of Loma, his mother, and Richard. There was one spot left for Ted.
Ted is buried in Texas, not taking advantage of the free site next to his father.

I don't know if Flurry will make this as part of a significant fulfilling of prophecy or not (he has claimed that important events will happen on HWA's death anniversary.... BUT...
ReplyDeleteSad to hear that "The Professor", Russell Johnson from Gilligans Island passed today at the age of 89. Also dying today, was Dave Madden, "Mr. Kincaid" from the Partridge Family at age 82.
A little bit of my childhood dies with them as well.

"It's January 16...Do you know where your children are?"
ReplyDeleteHmmm...Union 76 ball on a motorcycle antenna, inappropriate. Laughing at and mocking a son arriving at his father's funeral...
ReplyDeleteI had no urge to bop out at the funeral, having been gone from that scene for about 11 years. So, I perused the newspaper articles, mostly to see if some friends I hadn't seen in a long time were in any of the pictures.
ReplyDeleteSo far as significant events of that day go, it was probably far more important that 6 additional moons were discovered orbiting Uranus, and the first planning session to discuss the internet took place.
Also, the Union 76 ball incident could have been much worse. That was the era during which people were customizing "In n Out Burger" bumper stickers to say "In n Out urge". Imagine if that had been present on one of the vehicles!
I also remember the funeral, being shooed in as students to our appropriate assigned location.
ReplyDeleteGTA and the limo...
Because important people arrive in limos!
I think the resurrection of HWA occurs two 19-yr time cycles after his death, sometime in 2024? :-) or maybe three. Hard to keep track of all these time cycles. I think it works like Ptolemaic epicycles...
ReplyDelete"...HWA Still Is Dead"
ReplyDeleteI wouldn't be so sure....
There is video evidence that's he's been resurrected in the form of a baby and is currently roaming the streets of New York!
If there are real Christians in Armstrongism why in the world would they be looking for decrepit HWA to come back and lead them instead of Jesus?

ReplyDeleteEssential.

I was long departed from the cult when HWA died. I heard about it on the evening news, walked to my liquor cabinet and poured a stiff drink of scotch to celebrate the occasion.
ReplyDeleteHWA would have been resurrected but Joe Tkach stole his watch. So as you can see, Herbie has no idea the times we are in.
ReplyDeleteWell?? January 16 came and went. Nothing superfantabulous happened. What now?
