Exposing the underbelly of Armstrongism in all of its wacky glory! Nothing you read here is made up. What you read here is the up to date face of Herbert W Armstrong's legacy. It's the gritty and dirty behind the scenes look at Armstrongism as you have never seen it before!
With all the new crazy self-appointed Chief Overseers, Apostles, Prophets, Pharisees, legalists, and outright liars leading various Churches of God today, it is important to hold these agents of deception accountable.
Herbert Armstrong's Tangled Web of Corrupt Leaders
Doesn't the Bible context really mean that if you are fornicating , even when mutually consented , that this is labeled as rape?
Frankly, if your relationship while single has advanced to the stage that your are having full bore sex, you should be getting married.
Todays hook up culture has really cheapened sex and the gravity and seriousness of sensual activity. Sex should be a serious commitment to someone and not just a recreational activity.
Uh oh. You're really going to pixx people off here by posting videos from NonStamp Collector. However it will be funny to watch them twisting themselves into pretzels trying to find ways to refute them...

I have no problem living with a women who I am not married. A U-haul is cheaper than a divorce.
PS, Most boos and taboos in the OT were meant to control the belief system of Israel as defined by the Priests. This is true in all cultures I suppose.
Good example. It was the Priestcraft that got roiled at this breakout from the confines of Israelite religion in the name of their god who , of course, was jealous of the Moabite god and would have none of it. Of course, plagues don't really stop because you kill people being intimate but they seem to stop at nice round numbers.
Moab Seduces Israel
1While Israel was staying in Shittim, the men began to indulge in sexual immorality with Moabite women, 2who invited them to the sacrifices to their gods. The people ate the sacrificial meal and bowed down before these gods. 3So Israel yoked themselves to the Baal of Peor. And the Lord’s anger burned against them.
4The Lord said to Moses, “Take all the leaders of these people, kill them and expose them in broad daylight before the Lord, so that the Lord’s fierce anger may turn away from Israel.”
5So Moses said to Israel’s judges, “Each of you must put to death those of your people who have yoked themselves to the Baal of Peor.”
6Then an Israelite man brought into the camp a Midianite woman right before the eyes of Moses and the whole assembly of Israel while they were weeping at the entrance to the tent of meeting. 7When Phinehas son of Eleazar, the son of Aaron, the priest, saw this, he left the assembly, took a spear in his hand 8and followed the Israelite into the tent. He drove the spear into both of them, right through the Israelite man and into the woman’s stomach. Then the plague against the Israelites was stopped; 9but those who died in the plague numbered 24,000.
And too... The strict laws for women, (not men evidently) against adultery were the birth control and "who's the baby daddy" of times. Women had to be terrified to mess up with another so that any offspring could be properly linked to the husband for property rights protection. Stoning, drowning and other assorted nasty results of straying from a man they may not care for to begin with based on how the woman ended up with him to begin with had to be so severe as to assure, as best could be, that any children were his and not another's. No man wants to give his stuff eventually to non-sons of his.
Even in the NT, the woman taken in adultery, "in the very act" is the problem and not the man who is not charged, humiliated or threatened with stoning. He did nothing wrong in that culture. "The woman...she" was always the problem.
As for intimacy by consenting adults outside of being bound in marriage was considered rape, I have never heard that or considered it. It would not be actually true if it was considered rape however.

lol! Yes, but they are accurate to the text and reality of how it actually plays out if the OT is followed as written. Like the others called "Context" and "Bible Quiz" they show the way folk justify their own views and ignore or apologize as apologists for the contradictions and reversals that are actually in the scriptures and anyone should be able to see and wonder about.
Personally I don't find that curiosity about such things or even admitting them to be so to be things COG members think about or even notice in the Book they claim they know so well. Bringing them up to their ministers does not provide convincing answers and certainly does not have a history of ending well.
Sometime during the first semester of my sophomore year at Embarrassing College, I was listening to the radio in my dorm between classes, and heard Bob Dylan's original version of "All Along the Watchtower." As with all Bob Dylan's songs, the apparently simple lyrics which most people might just gloss over and dismiss conveyed and provoked some very profound thoughts. The words that leapt out that particular morning were "There are many here among us now, who feel that life is but a joke." Those words came back again and again as I sat in class, or performed my duties as a student gardener. In thinking of what my life had become, as compared to those of my past friends, cousins, and others who saw a future, and were actually doing something with their lives, honing their gifts and talents, I pondered my situation (and there had already been many clues along the way which I had dutifully repressed), and I began to realize that the reasons I had reacted towards AC in the ways in which I often subconsciously did (joker, outlaw) was that deep down, I realized that I had allowed my life to become a cruel joke. That was the beginning of my realization that I needed to carefully watch this very serious 1975 business, (HWA's boogeyman that gave him all his power over us) and to hold those who insisted upon its validity accountable. In 1967, the power structure of Armstrongism was cocksure and resolute about their appointed dates. They were not in any way in backpedal mode, they were in fact teaching us three math equations which proved the dates! At that point, there was no plan B.
Somebody's stupid fantasies could have set me back permanently, had I allowed them full control. In fact, there were some long-lasting damages which needed to be recognized and repaired, some of them very subtle. I often wonder what happens to the people who never realize that they have been damaged, as they dutifully allow less talented people to do their thinking, and to impose their wills upon them. The funny thing is, some of these folks might even realize when speaking to a Jehovah's Witness that they were not having a real mind to mind conversation with a fellow human being, but were instead having a conversation with a chuch and its programming. They just wouldn't make the connection that when their own coworkers, neighbors, and relatives were trying to have a mind to mind conversation with them, it would be exactly the same situation.
But Dennis, my Bible-toting friend told me that men in positions of religious power are given a pass by Jesus or His Daddy, due those men being the most bigly extremely greatest phenomenal intellects in history with the best words. (IOW, they can grab women by their pussies for fun times if they'd like.)
I don't recall a sermon on either incident. In the case of the man picking up sticks, it would require our minister to make up a justification for our after-service barbecue that was sometimes held instead of potluck.
In Torah law, witnesses are important. There must be at least two witnesses, who are in agreement and have warned the offender that what he was doing was wrong and to stop immediately. There are speculations on whether the wood was for a fire, or a weapon, or since they were not going to enter Canaan, the laws were not yet in effect.
With the rape victim, she had the right to refuse marrying the perp. He could face additional punishment and payment of compensation to the victim. The law was also considered a deterrent, a bit like our moral period when the requirement was you bed, you wed.
Sabbath laws are hinged on the verse below them where it immediately starts to talk about the tabernacle. Orthodox halachic law interprets this to mean there are 39 melachos or forms of work you cannot do during the sabbath. All these forms of work are directly related to building the tabernacle so a fire means a fire for heavy construction. But today Orthodox do not light any fire and even will not kindle electricity etc. This is a 'geder" or fence around the law. Since God said he was willing to destroy Israel when even one man broke the law fences were set up to make sure you would not come to break any at all. Same thing with picking fruit .. we are afraid you might come to reap an entire field. But yeah, there are 39 forms of work not to be done while the tabernacle is built.
If you believe in Christ, then you realize he finished the tabernacle and it is his church.

ReplyDeleteConnie, the Bible is friend to neither intimate relationships relationships nor children.
