Oh Noes!!!!! Don't You Just Hate When This Happens!

It has been a sad day in Israel, as no ripe barley was found.  Thanks to that misfortune, another month has been added to the calendar!  Don't you just hate it when that happens!

7 Mar:  The New Moon was not seen this evening at Jerusalem, therefore the first day of the 13th biblical month will begin at sunset on Friday.
No Aviv barley was found near Jerusalem or anywhere else in Israel.  Therefore an intercalary thirteenth month will be added at the next visible new moon [tomorrow evening], and the first month of the new year will begin in April.
Lest you think this silliness cannot get any worse, read the following legalistic nonsense:

7 Mar: Except for a report by Brian Convery of isolated patches of barley mixed with a high concentration of oats south of S’derot by Gaza [which are not Aviv anyway since this is barley plants mixed with standing oats, and is also not acceptable due to their location so far from Jerusalem]; NO Aviv was found anywhere near Jerusalem at this time.
The difference between Brian and the Karaites is that the Karaites [the ancient scribes] standard, is that the barley harvest must be Aviv by the end of the 12th month; while Brian’s standard is that he can forecast the harvest to be Aviv by the Wave Sheaf day.
I cannot accept the position that the Aviv can be forecast without any error two weeks before the fact, because it relies on human judgment rather than an actual observation.  What if it is forecast with the best of intentions and information, and there is an unexpected weather issue and the barley is not Aviv by Wave Sheaf day?
This explains the 12th month or offering day issue between them; but still does not meet the command for all persons to be present at Jerusalem for Passover and the Feast, which necessitates the cutting of the sheaf immediately outside the temple.  Which  was accepted practice during the temple period and accepted by Christ as the standard.
What is the command?  To keep the Passover and Feast at Jerusalem! What does the Wave Sheaf mean?  It is symbolic of the resurrection of Christ!
Where was Christ resurrected from?  A tomb immediately outside the walls of Jerusalem!
Where was the Sheaf cut, throughout the temple period?  Just outside the walls of Jerusalem!
To cut it anywhere else is to break God’s command,  and obscures the true meaning!  See more below.
Of course the temple no longer exists and we will not offer sacrifices until Christ comes and builds a new temple, but we should certainly use the temple site as the basis for establishing the new year.
Because of this fact an intercalary thirteenth month will begin at the next visible new moon [tonight or tomorrow evening], and the first month of the new year will begin in April. This is way too early, placing Trumpets in August,  Brian made the same error  of mistaking a few isolated advanced patches as establishing Aviv in 2016.
This year his pics showed a little barley mixed with standing oats which is a dead giveaway that the barley is NOT Aviv since the oats will always fall over a week before the barley becomes Aviv.
Devorah Gordon: no Aviv found anywhere in Israel.
We carried out our Aviv Search on March 6, 2019 and concentrated our search in the regions in Israel where the barley first ripens, namely the Jordan Valley and the Northern Negev. The barley in the Jordan Valley was extremely immature, either still in the boot or in the flowering or cotton stages. When we first started our search in the in the Northern Negev we were finding that there too the fields were in the flowering and cotton stages. However as we progressed more South, we found fields that contained a significant amount of barley in the worm and soft dough stages.
We even found some patches of aviv barley. However, these aviv patches were clearly micro environments and by far not representative of the state of the barley in the fields they were found in. One of the places we found patches of aviv barley was growing on a slightly raised mound, which for whatever reason seems to have caused the barley to develop quicker [James, this is because of better drainage drying the plant and forcing maturation]. The other place we found patches of Aviv barley was on the West side of a Tel, which due to its position and direction was receiving a lot of direct sunlight.
I want to reiterate that the little Aviv we found, were patches found in micro environments and by far not representative of the state of the barley in the fields they were found in, nor will it significantly affect the harvest yield if these patches are not harvested before their heads break.
It was the unanimous consensus of the team that they personally will NOT be beginning the new year with the upcoming new moon.
6 Mar:   Brian Convery seems satisfied with a little barley in the Gaza area and has decided to terminate his search.
Report from Jerusalem:  The barley at the Temple Mount (just north of the Eastern Gate) is either just coming out of the boot (Zadoks stage 5) or in flowering stage (Zadoks 6). The hulls where the kernels form are still empty. Aviv is Zadok Scale 8 and harvestable barley is Zadok Scale 9.Becca Biderman reports that the barley is not ready anywhere north of S’derot and around Jerusalem the oats were still vibrant green and the barley was mostly in bloom, basically, it was in the same condition as itwas in the north region. There are storks, swallows, doves, figs, leafing grapes, lambs and kids, etc. but the barley is not ready.
Brian Hoeck reports some fields in the south with patches of Aviv, and others intend to visit those fields tomorrow.
Unless this changes tomorrow, the barley at Jerusalem is NOT Aviv for a new year and the next new moon will begin an intercalary thirteenth month, and  Passover will be in April. Final Report tomorrow.
This is the kind of legalistic bullshit that James Malm wants to enforce upon the world.

  2. Have these people ever explained how they would handle a Space: 1999 scenario, in which their beloved Moon went away? It seems to me that these people get by without Jesus much of the time, but without the Moon they wouldn't have a religion.

  3. These guys are ignoring the Bible which says the oracles were committed to the Jews.
Unfortunately it is in the new testament (one of Paul's epistles) which is a different gospel from the ones they are using.
Paul writes that the Jews should be Jews and the Gentiles should be Gentiles and not try to be the other.

  4. Every time I read something like that from Malm, I can't help but think of the weird novelty song from the late 1960s that was popularized on the hit show "Laugh In" called "Tip Toe Thru the Tulips" by strange character "Tiny Tim".

I can imagine Malm singing a version of the song like this...

COME TIP-TOE THROUGH THE BARLEY WITH ME!!

  7. James writes:

“What does the Wave Sheaf mean? It is symbolic of the resurrection of Christ!”

“Lev 23:11 And he shall wave the sheaf before the LORD, to be accepted for you: on the morrow after the sabbath the priest shall wave it.”

“Once it got dark, [the reaper] would say to them, "Has the sun set?" and they would answer "Yes!". Has the sun set? and they would answer "Yes!" (Misnah Menachot 10:3).

The wave sheaf was ‘cut’ and “waved,” [better ‘elevated’] after the Sabbath [‘sabbat’].

The implication is that James supports a Sunday resurrection.

Just as the physical harvest began on the day after the sabbath so did the spiritual harvest.

  8. He must be an idiot. Generally Easter and Passover occur at similar times. I looked up the dates, and this year is basically the latest it can be with Passover on April 19, which is good Friday to Christians, and then Easter Sunday on April 21, which would be in the days of unleavened bread for the old WCG. They always coincided from my memory, at least approximately.

I don't keep these Jewish or christian days any longer, but I always pay attention to the timing of them because it relates to the beginning of spring (cycles of the moon). I note that this year in the beginning of March there is still snow on the ground where I live, whereas other years I might be planning to cut my grass soon. I won't be planting any seeds until quite late this years.

Maybe this idiot should join up with Wade Cox and they can start celebrating the new moons or full moons or whatever, and of course more trips to Israel just to make sure everyone isn't lying.

  9. Easter is actually calculated using the Paschal moon. This is the first Sunday, after the first full moon , after the spring equinox. The first full moon after the spring equinox IS when the Passover occurs. This is why , nearly always, easter and passover occur very near one another.

  10. Yes and No to HWA - this would make the wave sheaf offering on Saturday night, not Sunday.
However on Sunday morning according to one Gospel account, Jesus had not been accepted yet, which implies Sunday morning, since it seems He was accepted shortly after.

So why don't the COGs celebrate the wave sheaf offering since they say it points to Christ?
Seems very inconsistent to me, but then I did not spend 6 months in a small town public library learning all these things.

  11. James D. Malm rebelliously left the Worldwide Church of God in 1985 to try to “think for himself” while Herbert W. Armstrong was still alive. James Malm's wife then got into SACRED NAMES NONSENSE and divorced him for not going along with it too, and James Malm got into CALENDAR CONFUSION. Having never paid attention in the Worldwide Church of God, James Malm also GARBLED THE GOSPEL. Now, the apostle Paul's double curse will catch up with James Malm. Some sort of triple curse will catch up with those who are foolish enough to listen to the “odd things” that James Malm teaches. When people reject what Herbert W. Armstrong had taught, and listen to James Malm's nonsense instead, and then imagine that they are finally “thinking for themselves,” that is all part of the CURSE.

"this would make the wave sheaf offering on Saturday night, not Sunday."

In the time of Christ it appears that the wave sheaf was cut just after sunset, at least by some, see Mishnah Menachot 10:3-4. Whether this was the intended time is another matter.

1Co 15:20 But now is Christ risen from the dead, and become the firstfruits of them that slept.

Typology suggests that it should be cut on the mochorath - around the same time-period of Christ’s resurrection.

Lev 23:11 And he shall wave the sheaf before the LORD, to be accepted for you: on the morrow [mochorath] after the sabbath the priest shall wave it.

“In analyzing the 33 uses of the word mochorath in scripture, it appears that it essentially means the next normal period of wakefulness. Numbers 11:32 says: And the people stayed up all that day, all that night, and all the next day [mochorath], and gathered the quail... Clearly all the next day follows the night, which would have been completely unnecessary if mochorath began with sunset as some have claimed. Additionally there are five verses (Ex. 32:6; Judg.6:38; 21:4; 1 Sam. 5:3,4) which describe people rising early during this time period called mochorath, and yet this is 8-10 hours or more after the Hebrew day begins (not terribly early if mochorath started at sunset)” (Sanford Beattie, “Resolving the Passover Controversy”, pp.9-10).

But it appears it was not to be elevated until Sunday morning Roman time, probably around the time of the morning sacrifice.

After sun-set, as we know, is the first day of the week in Jewish time; hence I said Sunday which is not technically correct according to Roman time; I should have said the first day of week - the first of the sabbaths (Matt 28:1).

  14. If no ripe barley is found for three years in a row, Mr. Malm's year will be three months off.

  15. Actually mochorath merely means the next time period. In the verse Beattie quotes Num. 11:32 the word yowm designates the daylight portion of the day: they "stood up all day, yowm, and all night, layil, and all the next, mochorath, day, yowm.

Mochorath only means the next wakeful period as determined by context.

Unless Pentecost doesn't begin until the next wakeful period:

    Lev 23:15

And ye shall count unto you from the morrow H4283 (mochorath) after the sabbath, from the day that ye brought the sheaf of the wave offering; seven sabbaths shall be complete:

    Lev 23:16

Even unto the morrow H4283 (mochorath)after the seventh sabbath shall ye number fifty days; and ye shall offer a new meat offering unto the LORD.

Of course the context doesn't fit Pentecost beginning on the next wakeful period.

Where does James get this stuff? And where in the Bible does it say: "To cut it anywhere else is to break God’s command"????????? What command???????

Leviticus 23:10 "Speak unto the children of Israel, and say unto them, When ye be come into the land which I give unto you, and shall reap the harvest thereof, then ye shall bring a sheaf of the firstfruits of your harvest unto the priest:"

Who cuts? Not the priest! The people (peeps) do! Do all the peeps live in Jerusalem? No! The peeps live in Jerusalem area and "everywhere else!"

And the peeps don't all cut it at the same time; they cut it at different times, and then what? They bring the wave sheafs to the priest in advance of when the priest must wave it. Duh!!!!!!!!

The peeps weren't breaking God's command when they "cut it anywhere else!"

What happens when Satan causes drought year(s) and there is no ripe barley anywhere? Duh!

James should stop making "his stuff" up. Will he? Probably not, but...

    Time will tell...

  17. Yes, time will indeed tell! By the time that climate change has advanced to the point where the very specific constants required for the successful growth of coffee are no longer present, the barley cycle will also be so radically out of kilter that a James Malm and his teachings are no longer possible. Maybe at that time, if he is still alive, he will see the wisdom of conjunction, and Hillel II.
