Anthony Rowell, Former COG Member, Sentenced To 21 Years In Prison For Kidnapping, Sodomy and Rape

From a reader:

Here is something you may have missed. Anthony Rowell, a former Church of God member and Ambassador College student was sentenced to 21 years in prison for rape, kidnapping, and sodomy. Another shining example of the COG. What a legacy we have left behind!

Investigators: Man posed as officer before assaulting woman
COLUMBIA, Mo. (AP) — Investigators allege a central Missouri man already facing rape and kidnapping charges posed as a law enforcement officer to force a woman to perform a sex act.
The Columbia Daily Tribune reports 49-year-old Anthony Rowell, of Holts Summit, was arrested Wednesday on warrants for first-degree kidnapping and first-degree sodomy. Bond was set at $500,000.

Missouri State Highway Patrol investigators wrote in charging documents that Rowell posed as a police officer while offering to help a woman whose car stalled in December 2017. The woman told investigators the man said he suspected her of using marijuana and driving drunk but implied he would let her go if she performed the sex act.

Rowell has been in custody since March 2018 on charges in two other assault-related cases.
Rowell’s attorney, Shane Farrow, did not immediately return a call seeking comment.

Former Holts Summit Uber driver faces new sex crime and kidnapping charges
BOONE COUNTY — A former Uber driver, who was previously charged with rape and kidnapping twice, is now facing new sex crime and kidnapping charges.

Anthony Todd Rowell, of Holts Summit, faces charges of 1st degree sodomy or attempted sodomy, along with 1st degree kidnapping for a incident in 2017.

The probable cause statement said a woman ran out of gas in the early hours of December 2, 2017. It stated the woman said Rowell approached her, saying he was a police officer and indicated he could take her to jail for driving while intoxicated and for possessing marijuana. The statement said he implied he would overlook her arrest if she engaged in sexual favors, to which she agreed.

Investigators matched a fingerprint from the victim's car to Rowell. In June of last year, the victim was interviewed and shown a line-up to see if she could identify the man who was responsible for sexually assaulting her. She pointed at the photo of Rowell and said she was "70% sure" Rowell was the man responsible.

His bond has bond has been set at $50,000.

Rowell was involved in two previous incidents regarding attacks on women.

Holts Summit man pleads guilty to Boone County sex crimes
A Holts Summit man admitted to several sex crimes on Monday that took place over several years.
Anthony Rowell pleaded guilty to two counts of second-degree kidnapping and one count each of rape and second-degree sodomy. The crimes happened in 2017 and 2018 during three different incidents throughout Boone County.

Judge Brouck Jacobs sentenced Rowell to seven years on each of the four counts. Two of the four will run consecutively to two others, amounting to a 21-year prison sentence. Rowell will be under lifetime supervision of the sex offender registry once he is released.

Rowell was first arrested in January 2018 after trying to kidnap a woman on Greenwood Avenue in Columbia. Prosecutors charged him two months later with a sexual assault that occurred in 2017. The victim in that sexual assault said she left a Columbia bar with only memory of being held in a van and attacked with a stun gun. A sexual assault kit found DNA evidence that matched Rowell.

Prosecutors then charged Rowell in 2019 with sodomy and impersonating a police officer for a December 2017 incident on Highway 63. Law enforcement claimed a woman ran out of gas when Rowell pulled up behind her claiming to be an officer. The woman said Rowell forced her into giving him oral sex in exchange for help.

Assistant prosecuting attorney Sue Boresi dropped the charges of impersonating an officer in the plea. She said the case had several unique aspects, including the number of victims and the "predatory" pattern of Rowell waiting for women to be alone in order to seize and sexually assault them.

  1. Shirt on him says "Bridal Cave", Thunder Mountain.

This is a Lake of the Ozarks attraction Missouri that my wife and I went to while at the FOT a long time ago. Scary the idea of being in the cave at the potential same time as this dude!

  2. How do we know this guy was apart of the COG?

  3. He was mentioned on the Ambassador University Facebook page in addition to Stephen Allwine. People knew him there.

  5. The COG attracts alt right, conspiracist, self-righteous, elderly, single, and desperate individuals. It’s rare that a well adjusted stable politically neutral younger individual joins.

  6. I've never understood the motivation behind rape. To me, the greatest pleasure of intercourse has always been the knowledge that one has righteously gotten one's woman off. Weaponizing sex would totally ruin it.

This guy is a real dick!

Rape is not about mutual pleasure. Rape is about "satisfaction" through power.

I hope you are saying this in jest. If not, it's the dumbest thing to ever come out a persons mouth. Why? Because every human on the planet has fallen into that category at some point in their lives!!

  11. Precisely WHAT does his former church have to do with this? Are you saying that his being a former WCG member explains this? What about the many, many former WCG members who HAVEN'T done anything even remotely like this? Are they totally irrelevant? Or will you say that they simply haven't shown their true colors YET? And is there any possibility that this is NOT simply a display of hateful prejudice?

Great point. You have to understand, this site is a vendetta site by people who love gossip, rumor mongering, and running down other people. That way they never have to look at their own lacks.

Further, it seems it is impossible for them to apply the same anti-others against themselves. Plus, it is totally impossible for them to offer better alternatives. They have none.

In addition to that they are incapable of seeing the millions of killings, rapes, mobs, liars, etc. etc. done around them by christians and non-christians of all stripes. Why? They have a vendetta against the only individuals and group that tells them they are sinners, misfits, and other such sins.

Try to get the main writers here to publish uplifting, informative, inspiring posts here at least five in a row, and see how far you get.

People love gossip, especially if it is bad, and could care less about goodness, facts, truth, love, joy, peace, long suffering, meekness, temperance, gentleness, and more such uplifting topics.

If more folks who visit here having good news to give, would post, this could become one of the best sites on the internet.

Or, if y’all want to continue filling the mind with garbage, have at it. It’s actually fun to watch the struggle to see who can come up with the worst sounding put down.

On the other hand, there are some huge successes that came from the wcg.

Why even some of those who “became” atheists after AC have made a good living peddling their works. Who says the college and WCG was all bad?

Think positive for a change and see how much better one feels. Why, like W. Clement Stone taught his salesmen to say out loud many times daily: I FEEL HEALTHY, HAPPY, AND TERRIFIC!

Try it, you won’t just like it, in a few days you will start to LOVE it, and start experiencing more JOY.

So, who here has the courage to step up and be first to post a little joy here. Can’t wait to see the deluge of positivity coming our way!!!

  14. Truth is , that every group has its outliers, deviants and freaks.

This goes for the police, Nuns, Doctors , you name it.

What would be interesting to know is how COG demographics stack up vs. a large public group baseline, and if there is a significant standard deviation from such, that could be accounted for based upon the religion's effect.

Told you it was impossible for them.

So, let’s talk about your falsely named Armstrongites.

On the other hand, Howard Clark, wounded in war could’t walk, paraplegic, was healed. Knew him personally.
Lynn Torrance, prisoner of Japanese, became a great influence for good at AC. Knew him personally.
David Jon Hill, great guy, wonderful teacher, didn’t cave, after leaving helped many with personal problems like he had to overcome. Knew him personally.
Kenneth Westby, another great caring man. Helped me with a serious situation. Knew him personally.
Dr. C. Paul Meredith, kind gentleman who lost his wife. Still remained faithful. Knew him personally.
Herbert W. Armstrong, always kind to me, didn’t get upset over an event like others said he would. Knew him personally.
Art Docken, jumped all over me for an event I never did. Knew him personally.
Rod Meredith got upset over a picture hanging I was doing at his home. His wife Margie told him I was doing just fine, and to leave me alone. Knew them both.
Garner Ted Armstrong asked me to stand in for him during basketball as he had an appointment. I couldn’t at the time. So he adjusted and didn’t get mad, as others say he would. He also broke up a relationship I had at the time. Yet, we remained friends. Knew him personally.
Al Portune, very caring person in helping others, including my family. Knew him personally.
Herman Hoeh encouraged me to go ahead with marriage plans. I did, now 57 years this coming April. Probably longer than most of you here are old. Knew him personally.
Dr, Charles Dorothy advised my to be wife to wait. We didn’t. So, he performed the wedding service. Knew him personally.
And, on and on I could go. But, not now.

Why keep writing Knew him personally? Cause I can speak from personal experience, not just blab 3rd, 4th, 5th, 10th, level fake stories that I personally know nothing about and never experienced, like our jackal friends claim.. At least 50+% of the negative stories told here are lies or exaggeration. You might say embellished.

However, some of Gary’s and Dennis’ posts are ok, because they are writing about ministries today that have gone astray and truly are led by fake Herbert Armstrong wanna be’s. And, of course, he gets the blame for them by the vendetta jackals here.

The point is, anyone can criticize, but the hate and anger is not necessary. It is one thing to clearly explain the problem. It is another thing to use names, as is done here. Scripturally one should get rid of their filthy mouthings.

    Words leave consequences.

In a court of law they use the expression "the whole truth and nothing but the truth." The bible agrees with its "live by EVERY word of God.," By contrast, you have cherry picked the odd situation which paints a fraudulent picture about the church.
For instance Rod Meredith used mental cruelty to load it over members. Bisexual GTA wrote a childrearing booklet that sanctioned psychopathic violence against children. Members personally experienced the church toxic culture, so we know that you are whitewashing HWAs church. No one likes a liar, and your lies have consequences as well.
Btw, why not comment on the church being morally neo-Marxist. Members had no rights, were regarded as the property of the church, had their lives micro managed, and were punished for independent thinking.
Again the picture you have painted is a monster lie. and no liars will be in Gods kingdom.

Interesting typical comments. And, you experienced all of that personally.

What I said was NOT A LIE.

Secondly, you seem to be like all the other critics here who are talking about the post 1961-4, time frame. The time frame you speak about is after the atheists, christians, even masons, and others came into the college and church and began changing it from the inside. Many of these people became ministers who did not preach what the church taught. Those are the ones you are fed up with.

Sorry, your morally Marxist bit is just another phrase critics come up with.

But, thanks for your input, once again it proves my point, no one here knows how to be positive.

I’m certainly glad I began in the pre-1963/4 period. What an exciting difference. In fact, I’ve been treated worse on this site than I ever was as a member. And, most of your complaints here on this site mirror the very things you complain about. So, what makes that better than the treatment thrown around here.

  20. Good to know that positivity leads to such extensive name-checking. How nice for you! Apparently, you were one of the good ol' boys.

Ah well. I always did say that there are two kinds of thinking. There is positive thinking, and unfortunately there is also suppository thinking.
Guess which one Armstrongism fosters. And why there is such residual anger, sometimes decades after the fact. Thing is, we're having lots of fun here, and some people just can't stand it.

  21. It’s amazing how kind considerate and high class the fake rumor critics are here.

Very sad they have no discernment to go with it.
