Jon Brisby
John Brisby, the leader of the Church of God, The Eternal has laid down the law on men with beards. Gerald Flurry was immediately disfellowshipped as a church leader because of his joke of a goatee...snark....
From a reader:
Here we are again visiting some of the most spiritually important problems facing the Church of God today, your beards.
Jon Brisby, when fawning over his own well-groomed beard that he wore years ago, had this to say about unkept beards. From “Just what do you mean the Faith Once Delivered?” #41 at 1:02:56 to 1:03:51 dated 8-21-2021.
“So what do I mean by well groomed? Okay, there’s beards, and then there is other beards. Again, the difference in the way you choose to wear your beard is definitely making a different statement by who you associate with. Ya know, are you trying to look like some outlaw biker? And to what extent is your choice in a beard giving that impression to people who don’t know you? Is that a Christian image? Why did you choose to have a long scraggly beard If you do? I mean again, re-assess this. First impressions do matter. Take it into consideration.”
This excerpt was just one of many in a long line of listed ways church members must look to be acceptable in their church and in the world to set a good example.
Comment by blog owner:
The longest-running thread on this blog and the one filled with the most comments is about Jon Brisby and the Church of God, the Eternal. COGE was the brainchild of Raymond Cole. After his death Jon Brisby took the reigns and he imagines himself as the most glorious man alive. Fast cars, flashy clothing, and overblown vanity are his calling cards. He and Bob Thiel have obviously been comparing notes. Bisby is just as weird as Bob Thiel in the outrageous claims "biblical" teachings he expounds. If you thought the teachings of Bob Thiel and Dave Pack are weird, Brisby is their long-lostbrother.
Church of God, The Eternal's Jon Brisby Sinks To A New Vile Low
If I were Brisby I would worry less about men's beards and worry more about horny women who think he is hot.
ReplyDeleteHot ? Flashing Willy in Church.
DeleteThe "righteous look" is very important in deceiving its members and other siders about the true moral state of their church. It's a tool in their war against truth.
ReplyDeleteWith all that is going on in this world, and all of the problems these brethren are facing in their personal lives; how is teaching about beards, and earrings going to prepare them spiritually to withstand whats coming? It's not. It reminds me of something Jesus said to Peter; feed MY sheep.
ReplyDeletePeople are paying this man 1st tithe to speak about this stuff, really? Just look at the material he preaches about, probably 5 percent of it is helpful.
Remember Mr. Brisby; look not on the outward appearance. So why do you keep telling them they have to conform to things not biblical? Thing's you even say are not biblical? Not a "thus sayeth the Lord"? Then quit making them into a "thus sayeth the Lord". Teach so that they may overcome in their hearts and their minds instead so that they can make their robes white. The real teaching of Jesus.
The only thing preaching like this may accomplish, is a small handful of people who congregate and all look alike still with the same unchanged hearts and minds. Seems to me there was a group of men who ran around attacking Jesus all the time who fit the physical model your trying to create Mr. Brisby. I think we call them Pharisees.
Get with it before it is to late.
At least 3 of the men I know over there who have these scraggly biker beards as Brisby says, are some of the most down to earth people you could ever meet. Salt of the earth I might add. I believe John the Baptist was an unkept man, yet he was approved of God. I wonder, would he have been approved of by Jon Brisby?
ReplyDeleteSounds a lot like 3rd John and a man named Diotrephes.
DeleteHave you not considered that you are giving Church of God Eternal more publicity than they could ever give themselves.
ReplyDeleteThis is true, never thought about that.
DeleteFlurry and Brisby should combine and be known as FRISBEE!
ReplyDeletePope Jon often likes to say: "Don't think you can read and understand your bible!"
ReplyDeleteThe doctrine of the Nicolaitanes was that of a religious hierarchy who claimed spiritual authority over those who were merely of the, "laity.". The term, "Nicolaitanes," literally means, "to conquer the people.". In a church setting, the meaning ought to be obvious. Jon Brisby is following the Nicolaitanes play book. No, makeup, no earings ,no wigs, no hair pieces for men, and much more. He is only concerned about the outward appearance of people not the inward as Christ says you should be. No one dares to counsel with him this is what I have been told. His golden boy Justin needed out of his marriage so, Jon Brisby setting in the place of God, said he is going to change the rules for divorce ,so now you can get a divorce over money. If you don't believe me just listen to his sermons. The sad thing is the church ministers just follow along with this.
ReplyDeleteHonestly when I see Gerald Flurry's newly adopted beard, I get the urge to order some chicken...
ReplyDeletePeople leave you alone if you look like an outlaw biker. Non-violent defense in a violent world. Of course, I can see where a beard could scare your ACOG minister.
ReplyDeleteBack in Jesus' time, observant Jewish men were required to have beards, and not round the corners.
ReplyDeleteWell,Dennis, that was funny!!
Dennis--
ReplyDeleteIm real curious about a report on your new community, the idealistic communal one. Is it working out??
He's already given an update.
DeleteI can see that!
ReplyDelete"Honestly when I see Gerald Flurry's newly adopted beard, I get the urge to order some chicken..."
ReplyDeleteFlurry needs to get classic black horn rimmed frames for his glasses.
BCG's as we called them in the US Air Force- Birth Control Glasses.
Jon has a naughty and nice list for those who are going to attend his Feast. If you are on the naughty list you are forbidden to attend his Feast .These people are members of his church.
ReplyDeleteWell said Anon 10:57. Thanks for sharing. The disease of the modern day Nicolaitane's religious hierarchy is a rampant disease that is raging, more so than the Covid delta variant, from within the ACOG.
ReplyDeleteEvery single splinter, big or small, stern or lax, open or shut, has it. Every. Single. One.
So many of Jons sermons have been about vanity of late. Do you dye your hair? Do you cover up blemishes with a little bit of makeup, etc... he asks his members to consider if they are being vain in doing these things. In other words it is about the outward appearance.
ReplyDeleteWhy does he drive around in a Corvette? Has he tried his heart to see if there may be vanity present? If it is about our outward appearance, then what is his deal?
I seem to remember some scripture that goes something like this: they lay heavy burdens upon you, but they themselves will not do them. Read your Bibles COGTE brethren, and TRY the man that speaks before you.
Doesn't surprise me Anon 6:36 AM, he's dabbling in double life living and taking it out on the laity. It's the done thing. Has been for decades.
DeleteGarner Ted liked to target the youth, laying down the law about etiquette and youth opening doors at church ect. You name it. And look how he was living. Double life living is an epidemic. Eternal Jon is no exception.
The smaller the church, the more snooping occurs, along with distrust by the snoopers of any members who would keep everyone at arms length for their own protection.
ReplyDeleteHence, the possibility of naughty and nice lists. It makes for a most unpleasant church experience.
Years ago Brisby spoke of this as something called a Matrix Organization. Something he had learned in the corporate world. A practice of getting co-workers to look at one another for things that they could go back and report to their supervisor. In this case him. At the time he said it was an ungodly and evil practice. Clearly he has seen fit to implement this over the years. I witnessed it when I was there, and you can hear it repeatedly in his messages now.
DeleteIt's so crazy, he is accusing the men over there who have unkept beards of trying to look like bikers, calling them unchristian; yet he has a lady who works in the office who is actually living the part. What hypocrisy. Get your house in order Jon Brisby before you spew to the congregation.
ReplyDeleteJust heard "fundamental belief 43" Jon admits that when Christ died the old covenant died with him and we don't have to follow it. So why do we keep the holy days and the ten commandments? I feel Jon is turning away from the truth. He is really concerned on how you look very shallow sermon. Just a concerned member .
ReplyDeleteHis income should stop then. Tithing in the New Testament is something entirely different. Would he like a basket full of fruit? Perhaps a dozen eggs? See, this man for a number of years now has been having his cake and eating to, but I tell you that time is coming to an end. One can only follow the path of error for so long before all the wheels fall off. Why do you think he keeps making statements like "if I'm the only one left holding onto the faith once delivered, so be it". Or, "if I'm the only one left wearing appropriate godly attire to services, then so be it". He knows, did you hear that readers? He knows he will be the only one left because he is purposely making it so. Remember, Judas was the only one holding the money bag. No board of advisors or anything between Jon and the tithe that is left. Think about it.
DeleteI find it interesting that Jon is coming out with more divorce and remarriage sermons right when his golden boy Justin Nalder is getting a divorce pretty soon. Timing is just right. He is telling everyone you have no right to divorce, but he told his "golden boy" it was alright to divorce over money issues. He thinks everyone is stupid and don't remember his sermons. It makes me sick to hear the lies and deception coming from his mouth. He is being judged by God, and I don't think he realizes it.
ReplyDeleteThis is from Jon's sermon on 6/1/12 "The Technicalities of Divorce #5", concerning Numbers 14:27-29; "What happened to those who wanted a divorce," Jon said "the whole generation died in the wilderness! No promised land for them - nor for us in the end time IF WE SANCTION DIVORCE! And yet in 2021, HE told Justin Nalder, (His best friend), it was ok to get a divorce over money. He is a deceiver of the brethren.
That sounds about right. Jon has given many sermons over the years where he has said something totally opposite of something he said earlier. You know how to find out that it's a deceiving spirit for sure? Call him on the discrepancies, and you will get your answer real fast.
Delete"Call him on the discrepancies, and you will get your answer real fast."
ReplyDeleteThat didn't work for me .... a few months ago, I wrote him about one of his lies, and he sent back a non-answer! He was supposedly going to give me proof that was documented and verified ... yeah, it was documented and verified by himself .... some verification. He's a liar and the truth is not in him, just like his father Satan.
Thats what I meant by "you will get your answer real fast". One, you didn't get an answer, and two, you verified by which spirit he operates. Truth never runs and hides, it is open and honest. May I ask, do you still attend there?
DeleteI quit weeks ago. What a relief . I read the the old testament and new. And ask God for understanding. I have not given up on God like most people do when they quit the church.
ReplyDeleteI left a number of years ago. Would love to chat if interested. We probably know each other. reqinfo01@gmail.com if you want to chat.
DeleteWill these marriage sermons ever end ????? Jon Brisby is re- hashing his old sermons and turning them into new sermons. In this Last year we heard 14 or more sermons on this subject. All because Jon's best friend Justin is getting a divorce from his wife. And it was Jon who told Justin to get a divorce over money. The deception never ends. By Jon's fruits he is a liar and a deceiver to his congregation and the sad thing is he does not even care, he just wants to look good.
ReplyDeleteAnd why is it that everyone Jon ordains, begins to mimic him in their speaking? Dave, now Bob, notice the facial expressions, the tone, even a little head wagging like Jon. Does anyone find that weird?
ReplyDeleteJon Mocks people he has never met. He wiggles his head back and forth like a wobble doll making fun of those he feels is wrong. He is sealing his own fate. Our minister said. you do go against Jon Brisby. That shows his true character of Jon when even his minister are afraid of him.
ReplyDelete" Our minister said. you do go against Jon Brisby. "
ReplyDeleteDidn't you mean 'you DON'T go against Jon Brisby'? If that's what you meant, that's exactly the way I felt when I left that crazy outfit a few months ago! He preaches heresy, and accuses anyone who doesn't bow to his will and brands them a heretic --- isn't that an ideal example of the pot calling the kettle black!
Brisby was always right, even tho the scriptures said different! Like .... Christ said He didn't come to do away with the law or the prophets, but Brisby said that wasn't true - and from what I now hear, He is saying that the Old Covenant is done away with - that Christ did away with the Old Covenant. Excuse me, but I always learned that the Old Covenant contains the Law and the Prophets, so who do I believe here, Christ or Brisby?? (I think I'll go with Christ!) And what's up with his statement that "reading the Bible too much will make you go crazy"??
Just sayin'
I think one by one, individuals are seeing the spirit present, by the fruits that are being manifested from Jon. You cannot contradict yourself in your own sermons, and then somehow claim both of your statements are one in the same spirit. Either you are crazy, or you are working with the wrong spirit. There is no other avenue.
DeleteWhat if Armstrong was never "God's man?". If that's the case, how much mercy do you expect on judgment day? You followed a man.
ReplyDeleteWe have to get away from this notion that HWA was God's man. Everyone wants to be Moses or sit in his seat. Either that or claim some Jesus status. The Bible is clear on trusting no man, looking to no man. Look to Jesus alone. Remember, even the very elect can be deceived, and many will be. Please, look to your Bible. Jesus is the word that was made flesh, that is all you need.
DeleteHow dare you talk in such despicable manner! (Psst, shhh, why wasn't I invited?)
