One can always count on the Living Church of God and Doug Winnail to always be positive and grace-filled in their messages to the faithful. Usually. Well, not often, actually.
Are LCG members remaining teachable?
Are LCG members malleable enough to receive the word from on high or at least from Charlotte?
Are LCG members responsive to instruction?
Are LCG members humble enough to be teachable?
Why are LCG members' hearts so hardened...or, is it really the ministry and leadership whose hearts are hardened?
If LCG members remain teachable then they and the church can avoid problems and make it into the glorious Kingdom to come...soon. Maybe not today or tomorrow, but soon. Within 15 years, at least. Maybe earlier, maybe later, but soon.
Regardless of when, send us your money to prove you are teachable.
Are You Teachable? The Bible reveals that God is looking for an important quality in Christians and future leaders in His Kingdom—teachability. Abraham was responsive to God’s instructions (Genesis 18:19). Moses was a capable leader, but he was humble and teachable (Numbers 12:3). David exhibits this same attitude when he writes “Teach me, O LORD, the way of your statutes” (Psalm 119:33). Solomon asked God for wisdom and an “understanding heart” so he could learn to rule wisely (1 Kings 3:9). When Jesus said the “meek” and “poor of spirit” will be blessed, He emphasized the need to be teachable and willing to learn (Matthew 5:3– 5). The Scriptures also reveal that when we harden our hearts to God’s instructions, we will reap serious consequences (Proverbs 28:14). Let’s strive to be teachable so we can avoid problems and gain a reward in the Kingdom of God.

Anyone else find any other reruns? I guess we have the answer, though. Winnail's repetitions tell us that he thinks LCG members are not teachable.
Yeah sure, the members must be teachable while the ministers are above the law. Their lording, anti-rights policy will remain.
ReplyDeleteThey only insist that members act Godly so that they can leech off the blessings. They know that God would never bless them individually.
I wonder if they're also now down to ~1000 members like their competitor in Ohio?
ReplyDelete"Are you teachable?" implies that the teacher is perfect and we all know that is not the case. We are actually told to work out our own salvation. Church leadership can get us started, but it's up to us to continue learning and moving past what the leadership can teach.

DeletePlus the mental diet given in church literature and sermons is a one size fits all approach. There's the narrow gate with its left and right side. Church literature always assumes that everyone is on the one same wrong side.
I don't believe that the church writers are ignorant of this, since this results in partially towards the wicked. And the church does not want to lose these members and their wallets. All growing Christians must eventually go "solo" and choose their own mental diets. Just like at a restaurant.

ReplyDeleteA Key to Spiritual Growth and Success: Many believe the key to success depends on who you know. However, God’s instructions are quite different. Jesus stressed the importance of humility and teachability when He said, “Blessed are the poor in spirit” and “Blessed are the meek” because they will inherit the Kingdom of God and reign on this earth (Matthew 5:3–5). God was able to use Moses because he was humble and teachable (Numbers 12:3). Jesus was exalted by God because He humbled Himself and followed God’s instructions (Philippians 2:8–11). Solomon understood that “before honor is humility” (Proverbs 15:33). The Apostle James records, “God resists the proud, but gives grace to the humble” (James 4:6–10). Peter records that God will exalt those who are humble and can submit to one another (1 Peter 5:5–6). The prophet Isaiah offers a summary of what God is looking for in those He will reward: “But on this one will I look: on him who is poor [humble] and of a contrite spirit [willing to change], and who trembles at My word [a person who is teachable by God]” (Isaiah 66:2). These scriptures provide us with the real key to spiritual growth and ultimate success.

Teachable=kissing Doug's ass and telling him it smells like a rose!
ReplyDeleteYou watch any documentary on cults and you'll see they all follow the same patterns. If someone dies, it's the memberships fault they didn't have enough faith. If someone gets sick, it's the memberships fault they're committing some secret sin. If there's not enough money, it's the memberships fault because your heart isn't it. When is it ever the leaderships fault?? Since you ministers are so intelligent, holy and righteous and you have all the answers....why do you keep steering things off into the ditch, aren't you the ones behind the wheel? Wouldn't have anything to do with the abomination you're committing, would it Doug? Does Deuteronomy 24:1-4 ring a bell??
ReplyDeleteThey (LCG and other ACOGs) want to impose themselves as a glass ceiling to members' education. The mentor and starter of the movement intended for his church to be the sole source for all education for the members. Remaining "teachable" to them implies that members would never fact-check or evaluate the founders or ministers, never look to others outside of the organization for additional depth.
ReplyDeleteI am somewhat of a teacher in my professional responsibilities. I encourage my students to take what I impart to them further, to learn more, and to come back and share what they learn with me so that we can all become stronger. Of course, I am not teaching "gospel". Those who do are going to see themselves as being Jesus' exclusive designated agents, and want to be respected as such. They seem to forget the fact that in Jesus' time, nobody else was teaching Christianity. Today, the Christian religion is thousands of years old. Devotees have spent unfathomable hours studying and discussing the teachings of Jesus Christ. It is unbelievably arrogant and presumptuous for any one organization to claim to be the one true source, especially these days when there are so many splinter groups teaching essentially the same things, and no especially blessed group has emerged above the others making it possible to discern which one, if any, is the correct one. The fact that some groups have devolved into stupid, stupid things, and have become enmeshed in numerous false prophecies has caused members to become cautious and wary. If one group could fall into that, any and all of them could. So, members want to "prove all things", and I can see where leaders would interpret this as being unteachable. It is not "unteachable". It is simply exercising individual responsibility in getting things right.

ReplyDeleteWhen I became associated with WCG. I read all the booklets, PT and GN articles. I listened to the sermons. I was convinced I had “the truth”. If anyone said anything contrary to church teaching I refused to even entertain anything those ideas. I was right and no one could convince me otherwise. In 1995 the church was going through many changes. I was confused. Slowly I began to search for answers. I began to read the Bible for what it said not what WCG said it said.
I realized I had swallowed Herbert’s ideas. Herbert concocted a church that allowed him to be a sole dictator. He lived like a king while the members struggled to make ends meet. He took bits and pieces from other religions to form WCG. He plagiarized the works of other writers and claimed what he had learned was revealed to him by God. Walking away from WCG and not joining any splinter group was the best thing I ever did.
So am I teachable? As long as you let someone else do your thinking you are not teachable. When you start your own research and do your own critical thinking you are teachable.

Based on personal experience, I believe that many ministers are fully aware of the ACOGs moral compromises such as the unstated 'don' t be independent minded,' and 'don't outgrow the church.' And it's a blend that many members are comfortable with as well. Which is why the prevalence of church spys and snitches. Just like in any dictatorship.
ReplyDeleteUnteachable usually means non-compliant in the COGs
ReplyDeleteBeing or not being teachable is not the problem. Non chastisable ministry is the source of all problems.
ReplyDeleteAre you teachable they ask. Depends on who is doing the teaching. They, LCG leadership, is certainly aren't qualified to teach. They openly break the law from the pulpit by lying, allowing known adulterers do the "teaching", etc. Let a lay member bring things to light, then instantly you're not "teachable". So it's not about being teachable, it's about being controllable. The ministry can do no wrong so if they can't control your thinking, then you're not welcomed. 100% cult culture in that group.
ReplyDeleteDoug, so concerned about GET for SELF, wrote: "...Let’s strive to be teachable so we can avoid problems and gain a reward in the Kingdom of God..."
ReplyDeleteWhat kind of rewards does Doug think the people will get for SELF?
Can the members believe anything that comes out of Doug's mouth, or anything that he writes?
He is telling people that Jesus Christ is going to return soon and reign on Earth for 1,000 years, but that isn't true, because jesus' feet will not be on earth until after Satan is loosed from the bottom was pit and again deceives the entire world.
Doug, driven by another spirit, continues to talk about another Jesus with another gospel that is not true. And Doug is not getting any younger!
Doug encourages people to do works in order to impress God and hopefully maybe GET Salvation and GET rewards, but even Jesus took no credit for the works that were done in His life. So why should Doug take credit, and why should Doug teach others to take credit for any works that happen in their lives? Jesus Christ was perfect and Doug is not.
When will Doug Express confidence to believe the words in John 3:16-17?
Does Doug teach blasphemies?
Time will tell...
John
