UCG Loses Portugal Church and Feast Site Because of New Moon Controversy

United Church of God has lost another church from it's ranks.  This group is from Portugal and have left UCG over the UCG's refusal to observe New Moons and for keeping "holy days" on the wrong dates.  They are offended that UCG uses the Jewish calendar instead of the one the new moon crowd uses.

Apostate Apostle Malm has this to say about them:

A reader of Malm's site says:

Interesting developments in UCG. The loss of a congregation and feast site because they refuse to abide by God’s Biblical Calendar based on the New Moons. Will this cause them to look at themselves, analyze their beliefs and turn to God…don’t hold your breath. (Even though they should.)
Malm later responds:

The church in Portugal chose to dissassociate after UCG rejected their acceptance of God’s Calendar. I am NOT personally in contact with the Portugal Church and do not have any further details. I do NOT know where they got their new position from.

God's Calendar.
God's Church.
God's College.
God's Apostle.
God's Law.
God's Sabbath.
God's Holy Days.
God's Truth.
God's Commandments.
God's People.
God's Ministers.

Apart from being presumptuous in the extreme, such labels eliminate all possibility of discussion. Don't dare argue with it, because it would be disagreeing with GOD HIMSELF.

HWA started the whole mess; despite being woefully mistaken on issue after issue, time after time, no one dared disagree with him because it was tantamount to disagreeing with God.

In the end, that's what has always disqualified those who use such labels from serious consideration as reasonable people, much less representatives of God.

And the beat goes on, from an ever-deepening ditch.

So true, Deacon.

Also, these new moon people are lunatics. lol

Andrew, really?

The full moon is associated with lunacy (by definition).

This is something else... much worse.

The concept is right, though: Devil in the details and all that.

And we need details!

You gotta love the Shining Light Blog headline:

TOMORROW’S NEWDS: TODAY!:

Newds?

Sounds lude.

I saw that "TOMORROW’S NEWDS: TODAY!:" at the shining light blog.
(I even took a screen shot for later chuckles with friends.)

Apparently, when the Pope comes, Apostle Malm will be jumping right out of his clothes!

Oops, forgot to add-

There goes my plan of hanging onto Malm's coat-tails.

Dingleberries, anyone?

Next thing you know, some former COGster will claim to discover mistranslations and missing Bible passages related to homosexual activities. I can hear it all now! They'll speak of God's church, God's apostle, etc., and add to the list "God's Homosexuals".

To be honest this doesn't surprise me since I've always questioned the inconsistency within the ACOGs when it came to the calendar issue myself e.g. Colossians 2:16 is used as a proof text by most Christians to support their view that the "Jewish" Sabbaths and holy days are no longer in force; while Adventists believe it supports their view that only the Sabbath must be kept while the seasonal feasts (or "ceremonial" Sabbaths in their speak) have been abolished; but to the ACOGs it means both the Sabbaths and feasts are still to be observed. But, in the verse Pauls points to the weekly Sabbath, monthly new moons and seasonal feasts. So if the latter ACOG view is correct then why do they ignore the observance of the new moons? It's wholly inconsistent to "pick and choose" as both the Adventists and ACOGs do since this verse is a clear cut case of "either-or" i.e. "either all these rituals are abolished or all still remain in force" and if that's the case then the next logical step is to choose which calendar--the "Jewish" calendar with its post-ponements or a "natural" luni-solar calendar without post-ponements. In any event I think ultimately it should be left up to the individual to decide in mutual tolerance and respect not unlike Polycarp and Anicetus and the attitude they reflected towards each others differences over the observance of Christ's death.

Yes, John, that is a wonderful all-purpose verse. Whatever you believe, Col 2:16 proves it.

Col 2:16 Let no man therefore judge you in food, or in drink, or with respect to mushrooms, or of weed, or of acid, or of unicorns.

Later guys. I need to take the edge off. Thank God drugs aren't leavened, way too expensive to throw out.

Ain't that the truth?! And I guess it's use--or misuse--is justice to Carson's sage advice:

A text without a context is a pretext for a proof text"

and Colossians 2:16 is one of them for sure!
