Non-Christmas in a hotel. How uplifiting and special. I bet they get to go to church and sing about "climbing through the windows leap" and " Death shall them seize and to the tomb alive they shall go down...smile brethren!" along with other great merry and joyous and COG hits. Well and there's "Praising the Lordo" too and not thinking that I would eat of bulls or goats..neeeeeehhhhhh, rather..." and all that. So I guess it's all good.

Dear Byker Bob; Can you please tell us/me, what the "A" stands for in ACOG. I tried to google it, and only came up with Apostolic. I don't think it stands for that on this blog. Thank you Biker Bob. Ashley.

Ashley, over the years, out of pure humanity, we've tried to come up with some inoffensive names that we could use on our former church so that when people who are splinter group members are participating in the discussions, we don't start off by offending them. ACOG is the acronym which grew out of that line of thought.. Since there are many churches which call themselves Church of God, to differentiate, we use ACOG, which means Armstrong or Armstrongite Church of God. That goes down a lot easier than "the cult" or some of the other names which were being thrown about.

The funny thing about this too is that the one time of year when EVEN "the world" is singing kumbaya and thinking thoughts about burying the hatchet, the big ACOGs are each having their own separate christm-um, I mean, Winter Family Weekends in different christmas destination hotels, because they can't stand each other, and it would be awkward if they were to run into each other, even at christmas time. The other funny thing is how they can't stand each other even at the times of year when they preach their god wants them to be singing kumbaya, at passover/ub and atonement/fot. The ACOGs never think thoughts about burying the hatchet.

I guess if everyone simply sat home they'd be accused of observing christmas too....

just because most of the country shuts down for 2 or 3 days doesn't mean Church members cease all activities.

I think you'll find some sort of pagan activity for every week of the year...doesn't mean we observe it by having our own social gatherings.

Yes, ACoG can stand for Armstrongist Church of God.

It can also mean Asinine cult of guilt.

Suffice it to say, CoHAM has not gained the traction it should as the Cult of Herbert Armstrong, but note that 'HAM' is part of it and Herbert Armstrong was quite the ham.

Thank you Byker Bob. Now is makes sense, Ashley.

Sure, it's easy to find paganism for every week of the year. In fact, if you're an Armstrongite, you've probably already been practicing paganism every week of the year.

The old testament are revised scriptures originating in the oral traditions of the ancient pagan Canaanites, and the new testament are the revised scriptures of the synchretism between that and Hellenistic paganism. So Judaism and all of its "activities" such as the weekly "sabbath," and the annual "holy days" that I was raised worshiping are just as pagan as christmas, easter, saturnalia, or lupercalia.

It's becoming a second feast of tabernacles. A fake feast, false feast. Counterfeit feast of tabernacles.

Good to know Byker Bob. I've always wondered myself what ACOG stood for. I'm glad someone here finally asked.

Because my parents felt guilty for our "armstrongism wackiness", they used to give us kids presents on Thanksgiving. My sister coined the perfect term for it- 'THANKSGIVING CHRISTMAS' ! Of course, we didn't let out parents know that's what we called it in secret.
Probably some of these armstrongist parents bringing their families to these "Winter Family Weekends" have kids who secretly call it their "Un-Christmas"!

Similarly, I knew an armstrongist lady who said her group held a costume party 'sort-of' near Halloween. Mind you, it couldn't be too close to October 31, or that would make it pagan.
They apparently were all hopped-up on the 'Spirit of God' enough to discern how close they could make it to Halloween without it being pagan and pissing off YHVH!

well anon.2:02, the Sabbath and holy days long predate any Canaanite civilization, and thus, their celebrations.
but then, you knew that, right?

they put the A in ACOG in order to divert attention to the man, HWA, who was just as vile as any of us here....

doesn't negate the validity of the bible though....

Is that like saying Charlie Manson "was just as vile as any of us here"?
Actually, when it comes to the number of deaths and destruction caused, Manson was a total lightweight compared to Herb Armstrong.

doesn't negate the validity of the bible though....
Like the validity as proved in the video Dennis inked to.

well I guess you feel better knowing that your sins are not nearly as bad as HWA's....and you thank God that you are not like that publican..... ;-)

Since Manson, Armstrong, Hitler, Pol Pot, etc all had leadership skills, maybe they'll be top leaders in The World Tomorrow!

Yay!

It's great knowing all sins are equally bad, and that killing and then raping the dead body of someone for 25 cents to buy a giant gumball, is no worse than stealing a giant gumball by putting a slug in the gumball machine at Walmart.

I'll remember that the next time I want a giant gumball and don't have a slug to put in the gumball machine!
