Philadelphia Church of God "No Contact Policy" Causes Another Suicide

This was sent to us by a reader and is from the Facebook page of a former Philippines member of the Philadelphia Church of God.

Another PCG member has committed suicide due to the obscene and vile "No Contact" policy that Gerald Flurry instituted several years ago in PCG.  His various goons around the world wreck peoples lives as they enforce this unchristian lie.  This is the 4th suicide by Philippine members in the last few years.

MR. PEDRITO CARA, A PCG MINISTER IN THE PHILIPPINES, CAUSED ERROL CONCEPCION TO COMMIT SUICIDE

Brethren in the PCG,
We are so saddened by the news that came to us through one of your own people from Angeles City who could not hold the cat from coming out of the bag anymore. So we heard that Errol Concepcion committed suicide by hanging himself to death.
We took Errol in our group and provided him all the help we can give: a home, a foster family, encouragement, and our love. But because he misses his family, we tried to turn him over to his grandparents who were acting as his former guardians. The Concepcions were initially reluctant to take him back because of fear of the repercussions of acting against the counsel of Mr. Cara. Eventually, Errol was taken by his grandparents only to bring him to his uncaring relatives in Lucena. With that, his situation became even worse. He was a lot better off when he was still with his foster family in our group. But we are not blaming the Concepcions. They are mere victims of deception in the PCG.
Actually, it was Mr. Cara who made the situation unbearable for the physically sick young man by preventing his being reunited with his family due to his strict and uncompromising implementation of the irrational, illogical, Satanic NO CONTACT POLICY! That same policy has already claimed the lives of two other Filipino PCG members, namely: Mr. Rodolfo Marquez and Mr. Orville Lilangan. Errol Concepcion is now the 3rd victim of the murderous NO CONTACT POLICY of the PCG Ministers in the Philippines.
By God's words, what Mr. Pedrito Cara and his fellow ministers in the Philadelphia Church of God are doing in implementing their NO CONTACT POLICY is MURDER. Notice this:
1Jn 3:15 WHOSOEVER HATETH HIS BROTHER IS A MURDERER: AND YE KNOW THAT NO MURDERER HATH ETERNAL LIFE ABIDING IN HIM.
1Jn 2:9 He that saith he is in the light, and hateth his brother, is in darkness even until now.
1Jn 2:10 He that loveth his brother abideth in the light, and there is none occasion of stumbling in him.
1Jn 2:11 But he that hateth his brother is in darkness, and walketh in darkness, and knoweth not whither he goeth, because that darkness hath blinded his eyes.
Brethren, please use some common sense and let the Holy Spirit of God guide you so you can see what's going on in the PCG with true WISDOM FROM ABOVE!
CAN YOU SAY THAT SEPARATING A VERY YOUNG MAN FROM HIS GRANDPARENTS-GUARDIAN BY THROWING HIM OUT OF THE HOUSE AND CUTTING HIM OFF COMPLETELY AND LETTING HIM LIVE LIKE A PAUPER IN THE STREETS AN ACT OF LOVE? Where in the Bible can you see where it says that you can show your love for your son, daughter or even your parents by CUTTING THEM OFF COMPLETELY like what they have done to Errol Concepcion, Rodolfo Marquez, and Orville Lilangan? How many more ex PCG members will they kill? Who will be the next victim?
Just knowing the 10 commandments of God without truly understanding the intent of His law is useless knowledge! You have to use GODLY WISDOM to see through the lies you have been made to accept and practice like the NO CONTACT POLICY. It is premised on HATRED which is the exact opposite of God's love.
Your unrepentant ministers are all going to be burned in the Lake of Fire. Why should you give your support to the men who are worse than criminals since they are causing people to die the eternal death. That's where they are taking you!

On another entry on the same Facebook page is this story that continues the repercussions of the "No Contact" policy of PCG:

HE SHOULD BE BLACKLISTED FROM ENTERING THE PHILIPPINES
A request should be submitted to the Department of Foreign Affairs and the Bureau of Immigrations to declare Mr. Alex Harrison as "persona non grata" in the Philippines which will mean the inclusion of his name in the list of persons blacklisted from entering the country.
Under his term as Regional Director of the Philadelphia Church of God in the region including the Philippines, we have proofs that the church’s irrational, unconstitutional, and criminal NO CONTACT POLICY has caused the physical death of 3 members namely: RODOLFO MARQUEZ, ORVILLE LILANGAN and ERROL CONCEPCION. Despite the wicked nature of the policy which he would not apply to his own disfellowshipped son Paul Harrison, resulting in the earlier death of Messrs. Marquez and Lilangan, he still encouraged the continuing application of the policy in the Philippines. The death toll from this cultish practice has increased to 3 with the inclusion of Errol Conception who just recently committed suicide by hanging himself to death.
The ministers of the Philadelphia Church of God in the Philippines are going over and above the level of wickedness of their fellows in other parts of the world, as they continue to follow the examples set by John Macdonald whose heart is rotten to the core. The continuing influence of this man has remain strong due to the support of Alex Harrison who took over when the former fled to Australia to avoid his accountability in the death of another PCG member, Liza Fe Columna. Alex Harrison’s right hand man in the Philippines, PEDRITO CARA, is not using his own brain as he just follow the examples of John Macdonald and the guidance of Alex Harrison. PEDRITO CARA has lost his self-respect and considers himself a robot or a yes man in following these men. He has stopped using the guidance of the Holy Spirit in discerning between good and evil.
One day, Mr. Alex Harrison will find himself being held by Immigration officials at the airport and being deported back to his country.

Has PCG taken the "Prodigal Son" story and cut it out of the Bible?

There is madness in the COG, but much of it remains in the "cerebral arena". "Shunning" like Flurry is practicing, and "Common" like Pack is doing , raise the level to beyond the mental misery, into full blown temporal and physical destruction and complete HARVESTING of human lives in the present.

Heck, the alien invaders in the movie "Independence Day" seem like good analogies for these guys.

There is nothing more vile, more wicked, and more asinine then the PCG's absolutely anti-christian No-Contact Policy.

I am genuinely sad for the families suffering because of this. I am angry because Gerald Flurry concocted this and is passing the policy off as "divine". I am fully aware that ultimately, it all happened due to HWA's WCG and ordination of GF. It is a horrible, wretched display of absolute, appalling evil in every way.

I don't know what it's going to take for PCG members to break the spell and get out of the cult. You wish you could just shake them and yell at them to wake up and get out before someone else goes down the same dark path because of the pure dark evil of PCG policies. 4 Suicides. 4 too many.

You want to say "Enough is Enough" over and over again. But it just doesn't seem to work. People shrug it off as isolated. People just "give it to God" and let God handle it and shrug off any responsibility. "What can we do", they say.

I'll tell you what you can do. Take a stand, GET UP, GET OUT, before someone else commits suicide because of the no-contact policy. Enough excuses. It's time people see evil for what it is, wake up, smell the coffee, and take action. Gerald Flurry's no-contact policy is DEADLY. Anyone complicit in his doctrines and supporting his doctrines is supporting deadly doctrines that do nothing but steal, kill, and destroy. Being angry and sad about it isn't enough. Break the spell!!!!

I hope this tragic news will reach Mr. Gerald Flurry. As far as we know, he is being kept in the dark about what is really going on inside the PCG by his own son Stephen and all ministers who support him.

The people over there need to contact the authorities and see if murder charges can be pursued. This is not the United States where the ministry is hands off for the most part.

on another note, old Alex looks like a real prick.

On the one hand, if your family members are part of PCG, they are cult zombies, and if you want to visit them, all you need to do is read the Trumpet instead, because that’s going to tell you all of their opinions on any topic you wish to discuss during your visit.

But, there’s probably still the possibility of a bond if you are cult zombies only in different splinters.

Regardless, suicide is stupid and selfish, no matter what “causes” it.

@12:11 PM, you are deceiving yourself. Gerald Flurry knows what is really going on inside the PCG. It is true that he delegates a lot of authority to his son and son-in-law, but he also corrects them when they stray. Sometimes he even corrects them publicly, in front of PCG members or in PCG member communications.

Barbara Flurry was a warm and wonderful woman who did a lot to soften her husband's image. Gerald Flurry, however, is little more than a dry drunk, a cruel and spiteful narcissist who considers himself to be the King over all members of PCG, and who has even told some whistleblowers that they deserve to be killed for their disloyalty.

Underlings keeping the boss in the dark is generally not accepted in politics. The reason is that the boss chooses his subordinates, determines the policies, and sets the moral climate. So the boss is indirectly responsible.
But I doubt that Gerald is ignorant of the suicides. He would be aware of any publicity that can effect his church.

A blanket policy of shunning cannot be of God. It's the 'work out your salvation with fear and trembling' thingy. Each person is unique and God deals with people individually. If a person falls away, and God sees that all is lost, God would not keep punishing or tormenting that person.

Fortunately you do not seem to understand Flurrys shunning policy re your"splinter" comment.

It is specifically targeted at those in the splinters or wcg (former) baptized kin.

It would be ok to deal with some here on banned. But not with a formerly baptized wcg daughter or a brother in a splinter.

There are far more suicides in pcg. Some are by refraining from medicine so are not labelled as suicides. I find the younger than 21 most disturbing.

The Bible versus Gerald Flurry

The Bible quotes God as saying in one of his Ten Commandments to honor your father and your mother. In contrast, That False Prophet Gerald Flurry says to cut off all contact with your parents if they were not stupid enough to join the PCG imposter cult and worship That Runt.

The Bible, in the book of Malachi, quotes God as saying that he hates divorce. HWA had written an article called Should You Try To Convert Others? that cautioned WCG members to try hard to get along with unconverted mates so they would not end up divorced. In contrast, Gerald Flurry just wants to break up marriages, especially if the other person is in a more sensible COG than his PCG.

The Bible, in the book of Malachi, quotes God as saying that he would send Elijah to turn the hearts of the fathers to their children and the hearts of the children to their fathers. HWA had talked about this in his old age. In contrast, Satan has now sent his own anti-Elijah Gerald Flurry to do the exact diametrical opposite. Sure enough, there is a serious curse on PCG people.

The Bible quotes the apostle Paul as saying that if you do not take care of your own relatives, and especially those of your immediate family, you have denied the faith and are worse than an unbeliever. In contrast, Gerald Flurry makes his followers behave like a bunch of cruel satanic perverts and then tells them how great they are acting.

The Bible quotes the apostle Paul as saying not to associate with people who pretend to be church members but are sexually immoral. In contrast, Gerald Flurry's local goons will insist that you go along with whatever old sex maniacs, sex perverts, and predators in the PCG want or else get kicked out of the PCG.

When the Tkaches tried playing their Great Apostasy trick in January 1995, many people simply refused to go along with it. Some went with Gerald Flurry's PCG, which was pretending at the time to hold on to everything that HWA had taught. But That False Prophet Gerald Flurry was much worse than even the apostate Tkaches, and now makes them appear to be downright reasonable and decent by comparison. Flurry “flooded” his PCG cult with all sorts of “new revelation” about how great he is, and now forces people to cut off all contact with anyone who leaves the PCG or gets kicked out of it. If anyone tries to escape from the PCG, they will be abandoned by not only all their worthless fake “friends” in the PCG, but even by any close family members still there.

Before calling someone selfish if they were in a state where they committed suicide, it’s best to do a study on such a comment. Simply go to YouTube and ask the question if someone commits suicide are they being selfish. The person who said yes has no idea what deep clinical depression is or how it affects a persons thinking. For one thing no one wants to kill themself if they were in the right state of mind, obviously they aren’t thinking right and are hurting inside beyond words. If you haven’t been there it’s best to look it up and not judge those who suffered.such a horrible illness, something they just couldn’t handle without the help they so desperately needed, they were not stupid or selfish, only to those who really don’t know how a certain depression can affect someone, the person who commits suicide just isn’t thinking straight, their emotions are uncontrollable at the time. They are not selfish at all, the fact is they do care. Again, look it up and see the various answers instead of just thinking they are just being selfish, if you ever go through the hideous emotions of clinical depression whereas you want to kill yourself, you will know your not being selfish, you will actually know that you really care and need help.

BB said "Regardless, suicide is stupid and selfish, no matter what “causes” it." Please Bob DO NOT JUDGE. If you haven't been in that black hole of despair, with no family or friends to help you out of it, you will never know. We have no idea how really depressed he was and desperate. I'm surprised you could be so cruel.

When I reflect on all the sadness and evil the Worldwide Church of God and all her hundreds of splinter groups have caused people I wonder how anyone can be still be deceived enough to believe they are in "God's church" if that church has anything to do with Armstrongism.

They look down their noses at "worldly churches" or, heaven knows, the Catholic church all the while not realizing that they are looking down from a pile of festering, stinking, shit.

Anything that came form WCG and WCG itself was and is toxic and obviously unblessed. Talk about a counterfeit religion!

It is dumbfounding that people so devoid of any of the fruits of the Spirit or the understanding of the love and grace of our Savior Jesus Christ can even get people to follow them in this age of information. A simple google search produces dozens of heartbreaking articles of the fruits of Armstrongism.

Wake up people! All these Armstrong splinter groups are CULTS. Read your Bibles - the whole Bible - like, including Romans, Galatians and Colossians. Get out of these evil churches that harm more people than they help. Be free!

Galatians 5:4 - You who are trying to be justified by the law have been alienated from Christ; you have fallen away from grace

Not sure what all the issues are in this case.

But, "Philadelphians" and "Laodiceans are all members of the body of Christ. There is to be NO division in the body, according to the bible. None! The no contact policy is unbiblical. It puts creates division in the body. It is based on Gerald's personal interpretation of "inner court" and "outer court" in the book of revelation. Without proof, he claims that implies physical separation. That interpretation is in clear conflict with the scriptures which say there is to be NO division in the church. Flurry is just flat out wrong.

"Regardless, suicide is stupid and selfish, no matter what “causes” it."

Whoa.. In my experience with suicides in or out of a church setting, the person is not thinking such concepts. That's what people know the person say about what they have done. And suicide does have causes, not "causes" I would think.

They simply aren't thinking. Depression, hopelessness and no self worth have overtaken them and it is DEEP. While suicide is a long term solution to a short term problem, it never seems that way to the person. They see NO way out. NO reasons left to keep trying or being. All suicide does is transfer the pain of the individual on to all the family. I have told any number of people that and they do seem to get that. If they could reason that "I am being stupid" or "I am being selfish" that level of consciousness probably would not allow them to follow through. But those who actually take their lives are no longer conscious and are staring down a deep dark hole in their lives that seems to have nothing left to offer.

That's my view at least

To me the definition of hope is to not allow oneself to get sucked into anyone's personal or organizational black hole no matter how disturbing this might seem to those in the black hole or the ones warning for the black hole! I'm just floating not claiming to be a star at its zenith although the radiation flow might still finish some approaching.

Byker Bob said...

Actually, I spent quite a bit of time in that black hole years ago, and know a lot more about it than you might think. There’s always a way out, and there are dozens of remedial steps you can take along the way. Severe depression and PTSD caused by various factors involved in an upbringing in Armstrongism are an ass-kicker. They never completely go away, but they can be managed, and survived. During the seesaw of mood swings, there are always some rational and clear moments. You just have to seize on those and learn to say “This too will pass!”.

I’ve even got a humorous WCG suicide story, an oldie but goodie from my teenage years. One night, after another in a chain of endless days of excessive, irrational punishment, I went to the basement, opened up my chemistry set which had given me many pleasant hours of escape into the wonderful world of science, and ate my bottle of sulphur. I was totally dismayed the next morning when I actually woke up. The only thing the sulphur did was to give me a horrible case of gas, which although unknown to me at the time, was kind of a metaphor for that part of my life.

When you get to the end of your rope, tie a knot and hang on!

“....no way out, no reasons left to keep trying or being.”

Actually, Dennis, you can teach yourself to live under those conditions, and to exist in that state of mind for years. I’ve never been a drug addict or alcoholic, but the same principle the friends of Bill learn about one day at a time is an excellent cross-principle which works on quite a number of life’s conditions. Life gets better in most cases, and although at times it seems unlikely, people do frequently emerge from hopeless states, and can actually then help others who are still suffering.

BB

Byker Bob said...

Armstrongism causes a deep inner sickness of the soul, by systemically destroying anything from this life which an individual could enjoy, depend upon, or derive hope from, and then substituting a very deeply flawed and destructive religious philosophy as the total solution to the hopelessness which they created.

It would be irresponsible on our parts to simply acknowledge the many church suicides, and to act as if, or accept the idea that these are simply inevitable, another symptom or fruit of Armstrongism, something understandable, and something about which we can do nothing. There could be a lurker, or lurkers who unbeknown to us are contemplating suicide right now. I don’t so much worry about these lurkers, because they are being exposed to our collective example of survival. Still, there are probably others besides myself, who still remember and were shocked like myself by the suicide of Rodney Lain years ago. Rodney was a personal friend of Ed Mentell, who had created the Painful Truth website. There was much angst and compassion expressed in the articles some of us wrote following that event. You can still read about it in the archives.

Armstrongism turns down the volume on such things as empathy, consciousness of the feelings of those outside of “the church”, and now, towards members of other splinters. It is bad education which produces borderline personality disorders, radical deviation from normal humanity, callouses which do not allow us to see and perceive. It’s the old “Let God sort it all out in the 2nd Rez” mentality.

But, suicide is not just a given for victims of the Armstrong problem. Tough love will continue to state that it is stupid and selfish, one radical act that ruins the lives not only of the suicide, but also of those who are close to that individual.

I shield myself from those who committed suicide because of a perverted dose of empathy with "the worlds suffering". Who refrain from taking medicines for curable disease. Or who are so afraid to drift grom God that they rather die right now before they drift from him.

I piss on perversions like that. Go away with your "empathy" and sensibilities. It is the "do gooders" who have serious issues with reality and I have no qualm about calling them out on the issues they "care about" because of a deranged worldview framed by their survival mechanism.

They will walk alone into the valley of darkness without my hand to hold them.

Correctimundo, nck!

We must identify the areas from which we derive our sense of self worth, and make sure that if we lose one or two, we still have some left. Then you simply switch from areas that no longer work to areas where you receive positive feedback.

Armstrongism keeps the church in limbo for members, and also messes with their families. That leaves open for development at the very least career, hobbies, and your standing amongst friends or aquaintances outside of church. When I left, It was difficult. I pretty much wrote off the contaminated areas of church and family, and concentrated on career, hobbies, and building new friends.

A lot of the problem is, it’s human nature to dwell on the areas that are taken away, and to feel badly about them.

For anyone who even thinks they have a problem with depression resulting from Armstrong-related issues, I recommend finding a therapist and type of therapy with which you can feel comfortable. Just go for it. Avoid the downward spiral that the ministers and members anticipate for you.

Hello Wess.

I think we are divided by the means and manner of communication.

I gave "immediate, unrestrained unbridled access" to the minds of cog suicidals I encountered. (colleagues and student friends not included)

Its a good thing if you do not understand unhinged thinking.

I framed in such a manner that any response to it might give me feedback on the current case I deal with OR not.

I am not seeking advice but information. I flow, act, receive feedback, respond, observe, process, flow, act.... Perhaps you were in a modus to converse or learn, therefore interpreting the divide as cultural.

Thinking about your remark. Perhaps Jesus was talking in riddles and parables just to see how the thousands of cultures would respond to his storytelling differently.

Thanks for the thought Wess.

Byker Bob...one thing I’m learning, you can’t tell anyone anything if they know it all. If there was a way out of committing suicide then why didn’t the thousands who did so find it, I mean as you say, there’s always a way, ya right, I guess they are the stupid and selfish ones you talk about. You say you were in a dark hole once, well apparently not as dark as many others were in. You don’t know what others are suffering as to why they did what they did, you only think you have the answer and only yours is right. Look it up, look both sides of the story up, especially the part about is anyone who commits suicide stupid or selfish. Instead of trying to answer everything that comes up on here as if you know it all and then try hard to refute those who disagree with you because after all you can’t be wrong, although some of your points on suicide are valid, overall they are not, try talking to those who were in a deeper darker hole than you were, but of course you cant, they couldn’t get out of the dark hole they were in, it was to dark and to deep at the time, do you still think they were too stupid or too selfish to just simply kill themselves? No, that’s not it at all, there is a state of mind a person could fall into where the only way out for them is suicide. How sad it is to call them stupid or selfish. How did they get in that state of mind where that certain type of depression took over, I don’t know, but it is real, very real.

Byker Bob said...

The only way that I can respond to your comments, 2:15, is to share with you the fact that seven years ago, my younger brother committed suicide. It profoundly reshaped many of my attitudes. I’d like it very much if nobody else’s family had to take that same bad ride.

Suicide is unique in several aspects. For one thing, it is a crime in which the victim is the perpetrator. Also, it is one single final act that instantly overshadows all of the life accomplishments of the departed, a sad footnote that permanently reduces him or her to the status of tragic figure.

Speaking for myself I think the self preservation system takes over from the knowledge of books. No one will be allowed to exact damnation on the survivors. Not even victims or the mentally feeble.

If we as a society were to pretend that suicide were an acceptable alternative or solution, this scourge on humanity would increase perhaps exponentially. Empathizing is exactly the wrong thing to do assuming that we as a society are seeking ways to prevent it.

In studying for this discussion, I ran across an interesting statistic. North Korea actually has a lower suicide rate than South Korea. When I read that, somehow it just didn’t compute at first. Then, I discovered that North Korea severely punishes those who attempt and fail at suicide. They don’t just counsel and release. There are long jail terms.

I do realize there are many triggers for this phenomenon. The Japanese stress related one by extreme societal pressure, honor related, depression related. I'm struggling with the euthanasia by consent question.

I guess the last type is as unacceptable as divorce.....
..however reality perhaps requires a practical and humane approach.

The type under discussion is the "depression related" type. Depression should get out of the taboo sphere. It should be discussed more in schools or tv programs or celebrities.

Suicide should not be an accepted "solution" to this problem, perhaps even caused by the way we designed our present society.

If the secret of his family had never been spread all over the internet, then this man may have not committed suicide. Anyone who professes to be a Christian should understand Proverbs 11:13 A gossip betrays a confidence, but a trustworthy person keeps a secret. Capitalizing on gossip. This young man's private affairs were taken advantage by a group without his consent. Gossip is also a contributing factor of this young man's suicide. The group who spread his family's secret should have asked this young man if He would allow it. I bet he wouldn't.

And after taking advantage of his sad life, they would take advantage of spreading graphic pictures of him hanging. How tasteless can that be. Jesus did not convert anyone by destroying people's reputations and gossipping. This group also have to answer their making things worse for this man's life. And how they flagrantly call themselves holier than any one else. You know who you are! Shame on you! You took advantage of this man's private affairs without minding the consequence and the pain this man had to bear. You should have asked him, he was 27 and an adult! yet you also rendered him incompetent by your LUST to win people off from the PCG!

I don't know if anyone will ever see this, but I was personally involved in a romantic relationship with Paul Harrison for 3 years and I have many stories I could tell. For me, the abuse I received daily from him is the most prominent memory. I had personal interactions with his family and his local church. I personally saw hypocrisy at the highest and also most personal level. They are criminals, abusive both physically and mentally and emotionally, manipulate in terms of offering financial reward to me and it goes on and on and on. I discovered via being told from those at the closest level how many members had also received financial gain for keeping quiet, having abortions and remaining in the church, physical threats if people wouldn't leave the church or threatened to expose the behaviour!
