Living Church of God: Encouraged To Be Kinder?

From an LCG source:

Dr Winnail has written a brief piece encouraging us to be gracious and kind to each other. Many are wondering if this is an indirect slap at some of the ungracious things that Weston, McNair, Meredith and others have done to members over the years and still are doing today.

The Importance of Kindness: Jesus told His disciples that we glorify God when we “bear much fruit” (John 15:8). One of the fruits of the Holy Spirit that God is looking for in the lives of Christians is kindness (Galatians 5:22). The Scriptures tell us that Christians are “children of God” who are to grow to become “like Him” (1 John 3:1–3). The Scriptures also tell us that God is “gracious and merciful, slow to anger, abundant in kindness” (Nehemiah 9:17). David wrote that God “has shown me His marvelous kindness” (Psalm 31:21). Solomon describes the virtuous woman: “on her tongue is the law of kindness” (Proverbs 31:26). Jesus said that God is even “kind to the unthankful” (Luke 6:35). In 1 Corinthians 13:4, we learn that “love suffers long and is kind,” and that anyone who ministers to others should be recognized “by longsuffering, by kindness” (2 Corinthians 6:6). This is why the Apostle Peter urged believers to “add to your faith… brotherly kindness, and to brotherly kindness love” (2 Peter 1:5–7). If we hope to become like God and be in the Kingdom of God, we need to develop and exercise this important quality of kindness.
Have a profitable Sabbath,
Douglas S. Winnail

Having known Doug personally his nature tends towards kind in my experience as opposed to GW and RCM whose personalities tend towards law and obedience with consequences for failures perceived.

Are you perhaps looking at a German translation of LCG material? "Kinder" is the German word for "children." LCG does teach its members to be children and to trust adults (the ministry) who know better than they do.

I am surprised that you haven't noticed how Doug Winnail is so lazy that he rarely writes new comments anymore. Usually he recycles old material, sometimes changing a scripture or a phrase or two, and sometimes leaving the old item untouched. This makes it unlikely that any particular message was written in response to a recent situation. At most, he found an old piece to recycle because he thought it was topical.

Others can probably find additional instances, but a very quick search reveals that Winnail gave almost the identical comments on:
March 20, 2008
and August 23, 2012 . Hardly an example of Philadelphian zeal.

Kindness is totally foreign to the ministers. It's all manner of verbal abuse and extortion that rules the day. I don't recall one mention of kindness in any of the sermons and sermonettes that I heard in my 8 year stay in the WWCOG. Presumably, the ministers realised how ridiculous they would sound teaching something they don't practice.
The ministers motto is 'In bully morality we trust.'
Herbs was more specific, 'In misleading marketing I trust,'

In case you may think Doug Winnail's self-plagiarism is rare, here's another example, pointing out that his December 28, 2018 comments ("The Importance of Patience") are almost identical to what he "wrote" on May 17, 2012
and December 20, 2007.

Since when has anyone in the leadership, other than maybe Doug Winnail, been a kind and benevolent leader? I sure never experienced that.

I think the LCG full time ministry has lost it. Listen to current versus old sermons and it seems like the life has been sucked out.

Cruel to be kind.

It’s not necessarily even kindness. In whatever internal screening processes lead to one’s being ordained to the ministry in Armstrongism, empaths are generally screened out. Being an empath is considered being week in terms of ability to vigorously enforce the authority, laws, and gnosticism of Armstrongism.

Any empaths amongst the Armstrong ministry somehow either slipped through the system by accident or later grew a conscience as they observed some of the consequences of their authoritarianism.

Yes, it's true. Many of us in LCG are aware that Dr. Doug has been on autopilot for several years. Why shouldn't he be? Although he is Director of Church Administration, he knows that any decision he makes can be overturned by the Presiding Evangelist. Yes, Doug has less real authority in LCG than any friend of the Presiding Evangelist. Unfortunately, Doug can't just go to some other ACOG, because LCG has changed its doctrine to allow him to teach his wacky new doctrine about the great falling away, a doctrine that the other major groups have rejected. Any other group that accepted Doug would have to require him to recant his pet doctrine, which his ego wouldn't allow him to do. This means that Doug's best bet is to lay low in LCG until Gerald Weston replaces him as CAD Director, then to take a cushy pastoral assignment and hold on until he can take partial retirement.

Kindness is not a strength of some ex-members either. I guess all the decades they spent reading the bible never did them any good. What further proof do we need that noble ideals have no effect on certain people?

We ought to have some sympathy for Doug Winnail. Rod Meredith, for the last couple of years of his life, was stating rather openly to his inner circle that he was grooming Rod McNair to take over the CAD Director position as soon as possible. As many LCG members can attest, having Rod McNair nipping at your heels is an uncomfortable and dangerous situation, and it can't be fun for Winnail. At least Weston is now giving real honor to a couple of the long-time pastors serving on his Council of Elders, which must frustrate McNair but at least gives the brethren some hope for better administration, whether by Mr. Millich or Mr. Greer, if McNair doesn't clean up his act and repair his dismal reputation.

I don't think it's because of laziness that these ministers recycle their material. There's darker motives involved. As a matter of observation, all the ACOGs recycle their material, so it must be a calculated policy. Otherwise, a good article would occasionally surface, which doesn't happen. Meaning, members are fed spiritual milk rather than spiritual meat in order to maintain minister power and superiority.
These same ministers probably secretly read good self help books, whose contents they refuse to share with their members, while preaching the give way.
Members giving ten percentage of their income to a church, and in return getting spiritual slop (slave or prison food) is fraud.

What else would you expect? They bet on the wrong horse, and are stuck with the consequences of their bad choice. Many of the ministers are just as badly depressed as the members.

I often say "time will tell," and those above Anons were observant to see that Doug Winnail has not spiritually "grown" much, if at all, over the years, appears to be in some holding pattern (like aircraft flying in elliptical patterns above an airport "forever" waiting for the fog to clear enough to allow the aircraft to land) while his messages are stale, the same 0ld, same old, "junk food!" Where's the beef? People wondered about that. We all received the milk of the word and plenty of junk food. What's new?

People wanting to be like God, in the Kingdom of God, just don't/can't develop kindness and exercise it like Doug professes. When has Doug done that. Doug preaches against scripture, but is too blind to see it.

Once upon a time, Doug worked in the New England area, using the AKJV, encouraged by HWA, and as Doug was taught at Ambassador College, so Doug has made some changes, but were they for the better? Why is Doug using The Message?

Doesn't Doug realize that to obtain a copyright on Bibles, so as to make $mammon$, one has to greatly modify the words found in the public domain KJV. Is Doug really smarter than all of the rest of us by using The Message, and not sticking to what he was taught at AC?

Doug wrote about: "The Importance of Kindness: Jesus told His disciples that we glorify God when we “bear much fruit” (John 15:8). One of the fruits of the Holy Spirit that God is looking for in the lives of Christians is kindness (Galatians 5:22)" and gives us a quote from The Message.

What's wrong with that? The words contained in Gal 5:22 don't even contain the word "kindness." How stupid is that? I am not saying Doug is stupid; I am saying what he is writing is stupid. If that weren't enough, even the AKJV does not use the word "kindness." Which word in Gal 5:22 represents "kindness?" Is is love? No. Is it joy? No. Is it faith? No. What did Doug have in mind?

Doug's message is confusing and Doug strives to give us the impression that he (and all hirelings in that group he is with) have developed kindness and exercise it in their lives. Doug is also fooling himself, but he can't see it...hence the recycling of his junk food, which many people are sick of. Anyone feel like vomiting?

How confusing? Doug already admitted that kindness was a fruit of God's Spirit, which means that kindness is God's fruit: not Doug's fruit, or my fruit. Well, then, God must give and develop that fruit in the lives of those who are God's workmanship, but God gets all of the honor, glory and praise for doing that.

Doug should not steal that, nor encourage us to steal glory by getting us to believe we can do it.

Hasn't Doug read, and believed, the following?

John 5:30 “I can of mine own self do nothing…”

Does Doug do more than Jesus Christ could do?

“For the flesh lusteth against the Spirit, and the Spirit against the flesh: and these are contrary the one to the other: so that ye cannot do the things that ye would.” Gal 5:17

Just with those 2 verses alone, how did Doug develop kindness? How could we develop it?

Personally, not that I have any choice in this, I’d rather be the workmanship in God’s hands.

Another verse Doug should focus on is God’s love for this world. Paul told us this:

"To wit, that God was in Christ, reconciling the world unto himself, not imputing their trespasses unto them; and hath committed unto us the word of reconciliation." 2 Cor 5:19

Did God lie to us via the Apostle Paul?

Will Doug think on these things…and figure out how God will pull off that reconciling of the world, which the Father sent Jesus Christ to save, not condemn, ……whether we develop kindness and exercise it or not?

Will Doug get away from all of the Junk Food and begin to give out some strong spiritual Meat, for a change?

Time will tell…

John

Imagine HWA handing out sermon subject assignments for the upcoming FOT:
Rod Meredith, your subject is gentleness. Let's see, Garner Ted, you are to preach on self-control. I myself will speak on patience.
Credibility of many of these speakers on these subjects? ZERO! Though they might be able to make a funny SNL skit out of their presentations.

Umm...kindness is one of the fruits of the spirit. “Now the fruit of the spirit is love, joy, peace, long suffering, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, self-control. Against such there is no law.” Galatians 5:22-23 NKJV

Not really sure what all else your comment contained, but I just wanted to bring this to your attention.
