The Philadelphia Church of God posted a letter from a member in the members-only section of their website the following:
PCG's eternally pissed-off god was not happy that this person decided to go to the Doctor FIRST instead of getting anointed, so it had one more lesson to teach this person:
Magical god and magical phone calls from the minister. Powerful!
Then, the person has to ask the minister for permission to get a second opinion. No minister in any COG has the right to expect members to ask for permission to see a doctor or for any other decision, especially when it comes to health matters.
Divine healing, misdiagnosis, or the body correcting itself, it's hard to say. The problem with this article lies in the fact that this person thought they were turning their back on their god by going to the doctor first instead of to the minister.
The number of licensed doctors in Armstrongism is probably around .5 - 1% and that's being generous. No minister in any COG has the qualifications to tell a member what to do with their health issues.
The crazy belief that God is not going to heal you because you went to a doctor first is absurd. If you are going to ask the minister to anoint you while in the hospital then ask for God to guide the hands of the doctors as they perform their necessary duties.
Herbert Armstrong surrounded himself with doctors for many years and relied upon them. Many in the church woke up when they witnessed the unnecessary deaths of Richard Armstrong and Loma Armstrong. Letting the bullheadedness of Herbert destroy two lives was a wake-up call. Rod Meredith then stoked the fire more when he went to the doctor to correct an eye issue.
Like most things in Armstrongism, the leadership did the opposite of what the members were expected to do. You can be guaranteed that Gerald Flurry, Lil'Stevie, and all the grandkids make regular use of doctors when needed.

What happens if a PCG person is unconscious & recieves immediate lifesaving treatment or rescue from EMT personnel or ambulance...before the injured PCG person gets a chance to call any ministerial know-it-all super-counsel/health advisor?
PCG is legally guilty for causing bodily harm.
I would add to that…. Just making shit up because if people think that I am healed, it means I am righteous!
And, some leaders will zap selected congregants with a burdensome guilt trip, if their ailing member does not become healed. Recently a puffed COG leader cited Clayton D. Steep's article on it, where the surviving members are accused of not praying "effectively" enough if the leader's favored sick member remains ill or is not healed. A minister actually blames his flock for not healing the flock.
Conversely, if the minister's "less favoured" member is not healed, then it's a different story! He'll put them in the same league as those who perished on Francis Scott Key bridge :
"Do not be like those of Siloam or those on the Francis Scott Key Bridge who apparently did not take the proper spiritual steps and were taken unaware."
"Jesus realized that if people did not pay attention to prophecy and pray always, they would not properly take the steps to “be counted worthy to escape all these things.” Yes, God uses prophecy as a motivator for people. Remember that God used Jonah to warn Nineveh (Jonah 3:1-4) and they repented (Jonah 3:5-9), and they did not get the punishment they were going to get then (Jonah 3:10)."
For awhile there was freeflowing banter offered regarding the non-healed member from Hope Of Israel congregation.
To my favorite crackpot commenter who thinks this thread is about Gaza, Israel, concentration camps, zyklon-b gas, Hitler, and any other asinine thing you seem to occupy your little mind with - if you think I am intimidated by your comments about me, Dennis, or anyone else here you are truly delusional. After years of threats to kill me from both this blog and the old WCG Newsgroup, you are truly delusional if you think I care. You are free to continue to suck Hilter's little dick since he seems to get you off a lot. Cheers!
Thanks for moderating & sifting out the wacked hype, even on a few of my past excesses.
So do they get anointed too before going to a dentist as in many respects they have identical roles. Trying to fix something ?
This is funny. In old WCG, they often had us consult with doctors for the diagnosis which would enable them to be more specific in annointing with prayer.
...I send you the Sheriff, a boat, and a helicopter...
How is this still being perpetuated in 2024? I am in my 60's, parents raised me in Worldwide. I remember my Dad started going and letting us go to MD's after hearing from GTA's mouth about HWA saying that Loma and Richard would be healed, yet they both died and that after his heart attack HWA had a md available 24/7. As medical knowledge has increased, taking advantage of it is no more a sin than utilizing electricity. I would not be surprised if Flurry doesnt have some little blue pills stashed away for his recent bride. It is all about control.
Right on, 5:26! There are no doctors in the civilized world today, to my knowledge, who are into sorcery. Knowledge has sublimated the profession to a place far above superstition! Just as, all but a negligible few of the people who keep Christmas know nothing about Babylon, Baal, Nimrod, or paganism. Paganism has been co-opted for Jesus Christ to the extent that the pagan misuse of things and activities has been obliterated and forgotten.
Let's face it. So much has been done by the pagans millennia ago, such as breathing air, or drinking water, that is commonly done today by all humans. It is not "the thing" which is evil. It is the perverse misuse of the thing by reprobate individuals that God hates.
There has always been a double standard in Armstrongism. They tell us that Satan knew all about God's plan and set up counterfeits. That's how they explain away pagan temples which were exactly like Solomon's Temple, although the pagan ones predated Solomon by centuries. It's how they explain the Canaanite feasts which were incredibly like the Feasts and Holy Days of the Old Testament, yet existed centuries before the Israelites received them in the Torah. Yet, they forget that the same thing could be said of Satan setting up Saturnalia, knowing in advance that Christians would one day worship Jesus Christ at that same time of the year.
*****Ambassador College research always was debate style research, in which one sought out facts which would prove their "side" in an argument. It was NEVER the following of an evidentiary or factual trail to arrive at or discover truth!****
