EXCLUSIVE BREAKING NEWS: Living Church of God, Rod Meredith and Rod McNair Being Sued For "Defamation of Character "and "Intentional Infliction of Emotional Distress"

Proverbs 22:8 “Whoever sows injustice will reap calamity,
and the rod of his fury will fail”

This just in from my LCG source:

For over a year there have been rumors floating around in LCG that Patrick and Elizabeth Scarborough were going to sue the church. The rumors surfaced big time at the LCG Winter Family Weekend in 2014 but then nothing seemed to happen so they died down again. A few Sabbaths ago the rumor started to reemerge. I called a few of my friends in the ministry but they said they hadn’t heard anything about it. Then I called a friend who is on LCG’s Counsel of Elders. He too had not heard anything about it. My source (an LCG member with family working at headquarters) was pretty confident which got me wondering so I decided to investigate further.

I started with a call to the Mecklenburg County Courthouse and much to my surprise they confirmed that LCG is being sued but they were unwilling to give me details over the phone. They suggested that the file is a matter of public record and said I could read it myself. I made the drive to Uptown Charlotte and got the gut wrenching surprise of a lifetime.

LCG is being sued for “The Intentional Infliction of Emotional Distress” and both Rod Meredith and Rod McNair are being sued personally and in their official capacities for “Defamation of Character” (Slander) and for the “Intentional Infliction of Emotional Distress”. The complaint made for jaw dropping reading and it went on and on and on. There were close to 150 items listed. It looks like they also tried to sue Bob League but that part of it was dismissed or withdrawn.

Mr. Meredith has clearly been hiding this information from his ministers, the Council of Elders and all of us tithe payer members who are now paying the bill for 2 lawyers (there were 2 LCG lawyers names and signatures) in a large and expensive looking Charlotte firm (Hedrick Gardner).

I guess we now know why Mr. Meredith is extra desperate for members to send in more money.

I guess we all now know why Mr. Meredith keeps alluding to the fact that the church is about to “suffer persecution”. It looks like he’s going to try to blame this lawsuit on “persecution” instead of his own harshness and unwillingness to behave in a Christian manor.

I have slowly become more and more aware of the complete lack of the fruits of the Spirit in my church leaders. I have watched as they bully and manipulate. I have seen these men that I once held in such high esteem, destroy the lives of good people I have known and loved without so much as a glance backward. I have observed the apparent and complete lack of mercy, justice and fairness in these leading men who are supposed to exemplify “Christ living in them”. It has been disappointing and heart breaking.

The lawsuit was initiated in September of 2015 and they have already gone to court once. It looked like LCG tried to get everything dismissed but was mostly unsuccessful.

I’m left wondering who will be called in to questioning when depositions start because so many of us in LCG were friends with the Scarborough’s. Many of us still wonder and talk about why our ministers treated them the way they did. Several of us have questioned but have never been given a solid answer. It makes it seem like they never really had a good reason to do what they did to these people that so many of us knew and loved.  Many of us still miss them and think of them every day. If we are called in for questioning and we speak well of the Scarborough’s, will we be kicked out of church and lose all of our friends? Are we expected to lie and cover things up?

I’m also left wondering, why didn’t Mr. Meredith try to work things out with them before it got to this point? I would think it wouldn’t be worth the huge amount of money and negative publicity that it will cost LCG in the end (no matter what the verdict is).

Is Mr. Meredith’s unwillingness to be a peacmaker going to bankrupt the Living Church of God? Is the stubbornness and unfair action of one or two men going to ruin the organization that thousands of people love? How can they allow this to happen?

I am sharing this information with your readers because the LCG tithe-payers they deserve to know that their hard-earned money is lining the pockets of worldly lawyers when it could be used to preach the gospel to the world.

Wow! Truly a leopard cannot change its spots! This is Leona McNair all over again. A personal civil lawsuit like this one can reduce an individual to a life-long poverty-level lifestle. Not even bankruptcy can protect against such a judgment.

The two Rods would do well to settle this quickly before it goes to trial.

Once this gets out the LCG will probably claim that this is Satan's attack on God's "church" and the end is near.

Anonymous said...

A while back I saw a facebook a post that said they had tried for a year to reconcile with LCG but LCG refused to even talk to them. It makes no sense that Dr. Meredith would spend our money this way instead of trying to work things out first.

I also saw that cogwriter posted that they went his source for the Mr. Apartian stuff that got them kicked out in the 1st place.

I just don't understand.

Anonymous said...

And since this means the end is near, send more money for a "final big push" in "the work"...

Karma is a bitch.

Think of all the lives Rod Meredith has harmed in WCG, GCG and now LCG.

I'm thrilled that someone finally decided to stand up for what's right and expose his evil abuse of power.

Hopefully Meredith and McNair will finally reap what they have sewn.

This site could also be sued for defamation and all of you who were in a COG know it, but few if any will admit it.

I hope this story is true! Oh, please, please, please be true!
RCM needs to reap what he has sown!
I am tired of getting slammed as the bad one, for repeating these stories.
I hope everyone in LCG wakes up!

I hope there are more lawsuits to come.
Of all the people Meredith and posse have hurt - now would be the time to pile on.
The membership should be clamoring to have Meredith booted, so their church does not have to pay his legal fees and judgements.
But, that's not likely.
How about a class-action suit filed against him on behalf of all who believed his false claims and sent him money?
His scam routine is well documented and he continues it even after each 3-5 year time frame that passes proves he was lying.

You people are unwittingly standing on the threshold of the most fantastic event you can imagine. You're about to be rewarded for your loyalty.

Why were the Scarborough’s disfellowshipped? Here is why: (this was written by Mrs. Scarborough)
“Over the years we have been completely dedicated to the Living Church of God. I used to spend hours baking so that I could fill each hotel room with snacks and bottled waters when there was a ministerial conference. Patrick worked at headquarters at his own expense for nearly 5 years. He provided computers, paid for all his own business expenses for trips to set up Feast sites and to attend the Religious Conference Meeting Association conference each year to network for better deals for the church and its brethren. We used our personal vehicles as a church taxi service for years at all hours of the day or night, rain, sleet, ice or snow anytime anyone was in need. I would make snack packs for ministers to enjoy as they arrived to their 2nd or 3rd Feast site completely worn out from travel and work. I hosted cocktail parties and dinner parties, not for myself, but so that visiting members would have a place to fellowship instead of being stuck in a hotel room with nothing to do as was often the case. We opened our home like a bed & breakfast FOR YEARS to visiting ministry. We single-handedly paid for the Tomorrow’s World television program to air on Kansas City channel 29 for a long time. We helped brethren be able to attend the Feast of Tabernacles when they otherwise would not have been able to afford to attend. Patrick paid to hire a software programmer to develop what you know as the Festival Registration Program when the church was stuck in the dark ages using paper registration forms that had to be manually entered to figure out how to plan on the correct numbers of brethren at each Feast site. Patrick has always been there when ANYONE needed him. He took care of widows, installed fireplaces, laid carpet, graded backyards with a Bobcat, cleaned houses, poured yards and yards of concrete to build patios, towed cars, fixed cars, picked up brethren the side of the highway after they totaled cars, etc, etc. The list goes on and on. We have always tried to be there for our brothers and sisters in need. We did these things NOT because we are enemies of the church trying to cause division but rather because we loved the church, believed they were doing the Work and loved our brothers and sisters.” - See more at: http://armstrongismlibrary.blogspot.com/2015/03/living-church-of-god-letterand-current.html#sthash.elWS670n.dpuf

1Peter 4:17 For the time is come that judgment must begin at the house of God: and if it first begin at us, what shall the end be of them that obey not the gospel of God?

We are all being judged. What for? Qualification into the Place of Safety!

Think on this: you have stood up and defended God’s doctrine; you defended Him without consideration of reward. In most cases, there is the feeling of spiritual suicide with all the punishments associated with it. Yet, you knew what was right and defended it.
God now knows that He could send you out and never be concerned about your loyalty.
My advice to you is that you had better prepare for the most intensive 3.5 years of spiritual training that so far, only the Apostles can relate to.
That’s what the POS is all about, it’s the completion of Christ’s 7 year ministry. Remember, He is coming to confirm the covenant you made with Him at your baptism.
He is creating a work force fit and ready to lead on into the millennium.

Here is another judgment you’re involved with: Rev 11:1 And there was given me a reed like unto a rod: and the angel stood, saying, Rise, and measure the temple of God, and the altar, and them that worship therein.
The word “temple” in that verse is the same word used in 1Co 3:16 Know ye not that ye are the temple of God, and that the Spirit of God dwelleth in you?

Ok Ok, enough of my preaching. If you have questions, e-mail me at itstimecog@hotmail.com

Place of "Safety"? Sorry, I'll pass. Without the protection of the US Constitution and Bill of Rights, ACOG ministers will most likely reinstitute the crueler aspects of the Old Covenant, like stoning. They'll have their own little version of Apartheid going on, too. There won't be right of appeal, or due process, or any sense of fairness, just "my way or the highway". POS is an acronym in my vocabulary for something altogether different, but it was entirely appropriate that you would use it to describe an ACOG place of safety.. It was one of the things they held over our heads to trap us in Armstrongism, intrude into our lives, and manipulate our behavior. If Jesus even dared to show up there, all of these fake apostles and false prophets would kick Him out.

Again this site is breaking news that should have come from my church! This is shameful that I find more information going on in my church on this site than I do from my ministers! Why do the leaders have such a problem being honest and forthright?
This is what started happening in Worldwide and I got sick of the lies then and now it is happening again. Just know I will NOT stand for this again!
You leaders who stand up there and preach and act like you are perfect and this is what you are doing? You are the ones who had better wake up again and realize the body of Christ is made up of the people of God!

itstimecog said...

Hi BB. Don't worry about any of them being there, not one of them qualifies and in spite of what you might think, there is such a place: Rev 12:14 And to the woman were given two wings of a great eagle, that she might fly into the wilderness, into her place, where she is nourished for a time, and times, and half a time, from the face of the serpent.
It's just to bad that the so called Christian organizations have twisted it to suit their own perverse doctrine.
You're sure right about how those ACOG organizations did and do use that as a tactic but it's easily proven that none of them will be there. They and their laity are scheduled for the rigors of the Great Tribulation.

With the following in mind, just what do you think their reward will be?
Rev 22:11 He that is unjust, let him be unjust still: and he which is filthy, let him be filthy still: and he that is righteous, let him be righteous still: and he that is holy, let him be holy still.
Rev 22:12 And, behold, I come quickly; and my reward is with me, to give every man according as his work shall be.

7.14 PM Sue this site? Unlikely unless something is said about a person that is really over the top. According to authorities on abusive cults (eg the late Margaret Singer), when there are many accusations of abuse in a cult, investigation almost always proves the accusations correct. The body of evidence of abuse is overwhelming in these groups. It would be near suicide to sue this site and the people who post here. Many here have horror stories, with proof, that would come out in court. And the COG leaders know this.

12.23 'intrude into our lives?' The ministers were like a rhinoceros in a china shop. They barged into the most intimate parts of people lives. They were like demons trying to merge with people. Gangsters, mafia men, barbarians. I trust they will be whipped on judgment day.

This is a mere shadow of what should have happened long ago while HWA was alive. Herbert should have been charged and tried in a multitude of deaths, as well as for incest and rape among other things.

The Leona McNair trial? Eh, that was only small potatoes compared to Herb's much more serious crimes.

As the COGs continue to fade into obscurity, this is small stuff, now, in the larger scheme of things. However, all things are relative, and it's a bigger deal to some people.

I do hope that justice prevails, and the Scarboroughs win big in court.
And hopefully, this will cause many LCG members to start using their critical thinking skills and leave that church!

Dear Anonymous, who stated this site could be sued for slander: no, it couldn't. You can't be sued for the truth. There are no lies here. I find it ironic that you, who apparently love "the church" would appear to "hate" other people so much. Open your eyes, friend - the actual, literal truth is here. You can read it for yourself. You've been lied to, over and over, throughout your years in "the church." Please, take a moment and realize that the person you've been convinced to follow was an incestuous con man, who pulled this entire religion idea out of his own head when he and Loma couldn't get in to see a faith healer... they saw dollar signs, and so he created wwcg. I'm not sure whether he believed it himself or not. I know it's hard to think of yourself as able to be duped; so many of us thought we couldn't be wrong. You are not a failure for believing what has been taught to you....you always have a way out. Just read. Educate yourself. You do not have to be lied to any longer. You deserve better.

8..58 PM And what will "the most intensive 3.5 years of spiritual training" be about? Why trade of course. The concept that Armstrong hid from the church. Members will be taught to honour self interest (and told to ignore all this 'without consideration of reward' nonsense). They will be taught to embrace profit (rather than working to profit others). Their minds will be swept clean of being beasts of burdens to others needs. They will be taught to pursue their own life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness, rather than pursuing the hopes bad dreams of others. Slavery to non winners will be a thing if the past. I can hear the commie-socialist Christians weeping and gnashing their teeth.

"LCG Source" here...

MEL,J & WARREN,BRIDGET, are the two fancy, high paid LCG lawyers.

There were a couple of things "dismissed" on the order that Connie posted above. I looked into it while I was reading the file.

It was somewhat confusing but it looks like the judge dismissed the claims against Bob League (he's dead) and dismissed the Scarborough children as Plaintiffs (they were named on the original complaint)so if they win, only the mother and father will be awarded a settlement.

The claims against Meredith and McNair survived fully intact.

Notice how in Mrs. Scarborough letters she writes: "He took care of widows, installed fireplaces, laid carpet, graded backyards with a Bobcat, cleaned houses, poured yards and yards of concrete to build patios, towed cars, fixed cars, picked up brethren the side of the highway after they totaled cars, etc, etc. The list goes on and on."

The Scarboroughs finally realized that they were robbed blind by all the church leeches, parasites and blood suckers. This is what happens when trade is hidden. Some members get royally screwed by others. And members are taught that all this theft is love. Ha,ha,ha.ha.

Brush up on the law my friend. This site could NOT be sued for defamation for a couple of reasons.

1. Anything posted or said "anonymously" is exempt
2. It isn't defamation if it's true

What LCG did qualifies because they stood before a congregation of over 250 people so it's all recorded. Further, what they did was based on lies. It's against the law to stand before people and speak lies to defame other people. It's abuse of power and brainwashing at it's best.

Black Ops Mikey said...

You know, this is concerning. People in the LCG are wringing their hands because of the injustices against the Scarboroughs, yet, they themselves do nothing tangible about it. Why didn't they all amass and tell Meredith to shut it? Why didn't they threaten the LCG that if they didn't straighten up, they'd leave with all their money? Why do they sit there and tolerate it? Why don't they have a shred of courage to stand up for what's right?

The answer: It's a cult.

That's how cult members act.

I wonder if the Leona McNair case can be used as evidence that Rod is still slandering people

In line with this discussion, I would like to bring your attention to the "Kruger-Dunning Effect":
Unskilled and Unaware of It: How Difficulties in Recognizing One's Own Incompetence Lead to Inflated Self-Assessment from those fun guys at Cornell University.

It's pretty clear that with the incredible level of incompetence in the Armstrongist Churches of God with their narcissistic inflated egos, there's not a chance that any of them could ever create a viable ministry of any sort after being a part of the poisoned well of the Cult of Herbert Armstrong Mafia.

Such people are incapable of even comprehending what competence is....

7.07PM your one 'final big push' brings to mind the song "Just One Look" by Linda Ronstadt:

"Just one last push, and I fell so hard
In finacial stife with you Oh Oh

I found out how bad it feels
To have you rob me Oh Oh"

Black Ops Mikey said...

My attorneys addressed this for me back in 2005. It turns out that most of the Armstrongist leaders are what is known as "limited public figures". This means that as limited public figures, they have to be reconciled that lots of people will have lots of negative things to say about them, but by law, it is next to impossible for them to sue anyone for anything they might say to wound their sensitive little feelings. There are very narrow specifications that a limited public figure could sue anyone. First of all, it must be proved beyond a reasonable doubt that the person did it maliciously fully aware that the detractions were totally false -- if the person believes they are true, no matter how ridiculous they are, that belief is a defense and the limited public figure loses. So far as we know, and against all belief of some very strange people, no one can be demonstrated to be able to read minds accurately. Mind reading does not fit the requirements of evidence.

However, and particularly in this case, the limited public figure can be sued. It doesn't take much, since it is presumed under the law that that figure has superior power and influence which can cause a great deal of damage if wielded inappropriately.

Unfortunately, unless the defense attorneys can trick the plaintiffs into opening the door, evidence of past behavior cannot be used as evidence for the current case. That means that the Leona judgment would be out... UNTIL it came to setting the settlement amount. The Manpower Papers would also be out. All they prove is that Roderick Meredith is a rotten guy who has an inflated opinion about himself -- quite in keeping with his statements that he never committed a MAJOR sin (what in the heck does he mean by that?) since he was baptized. Apparently, libel / slander proved in a court case against him doesn't register in his very small narrow mind.

Well, it's possible that not everything here is 100% accurate. Maybe someone has misspelled Meredith and that's enough to wreck everyone's credibility. We all slip up from time to time (not to mention that computer software and hardware sometimes contributes). Truthfully though, Meredith pretty much deserves all the mocking and exposure he gets here and other places.

It's too bad he can't see himself as he really is, but, I would suppose, it would be too terrible as a cruel and unusual punishment he may have to face in Final Jeopardy... I mean Judgment. Or not. He may never get it. He's too incompetent.

If the LCG claims to follow scripture, how about Matt 18? Did RCM go to them in private, one on one? I doubt it. Was RCM interested in disciplining someone in love, in private or simply destroying them.

Anonymous said...

Can we all just imagine how LCG ministry feels finding out about the lawsuit from sites like this and cogwriter?

Meredith clearly felt he could keep this under wraps. That or, as king, he doesn't respect his subjects enough to allow them into his circle of trust.

It should wake them up but I doubt it will.

They would rather stand behind RCM's horrible actions than stand up for what's right. A common trait in ACOG ministry is the complete inability to ever admit wrong doing!

Anonymous said...

I believe that every LCG friend of the Scarborough's that made the choice to participate in the Meredith ordered shunning is complicit in this lawsuit.

I can't begin to imagine how much pain and heart ache they must have felt by losing every friend they had had for decades on the inaccurate word of Rod Meredith.

I'm sure it was that pain in part that drove them to this lawsuit.

LCG members should be ashamed of themselves.

Their actions are not the actions that our Lord and Savior would have made. Following a man lead them off a ditch. Will they learn from this? Not likely.

James Malm and Bob Thiel both got blindsided yesterday by the exclusive release here of the letter confirming that the Living Church of God, Rod Meredith and Rod McNair are being sued for "defamation of character" and "intentional emotional distress". They both are taking letter released here and spinning it as if they knew about this all along, which they did not. Neither one of them have the wherewithal to provide a link that they got their info from here. When I find tidbits of info on their sites I almost always provide a link. James Malm is particularly guilty of this since he will sometimes quote word for word things that people have only sent to me as if he wrote it. Both Malm and Thiel have reached out to LCG for confirmation as to the legitimacy of this lawsuit. Its going to be fun to sit back and watch them both play their deceitful game as tools of the LCG spin machine. It will be interesting to see what Malm and Thiel report back since even some of the Council of Elders did not know about the lawsuit. There has been a wide coverup of this lawsuit by Meredith and a select few.

It truly is sad that LCG members have to come to this blog to find out truths about their own church. Truths written by fellow members who feel they are not being heard when they air their grievances. The internet has become the enemy of the Church of God because it allows free flow of information that the leadership restrict. This lawsuit is just the tip of the iceberg of they type of corruption that is rampant in the Living Church of God and the broader COG communities. If the Scarbouroughs prevail, it will set a precedent in other COG's for abused members to sue Gerald Flurry, Dave Pack and others. LCG will fight this with everything they have and will do everything in their power to smear the reputation of the Scarbouroughs. Rod Meredith did this exact same thing when he lied about Leona McNair in front of 800 Worldwide Church of God ministers. He blatantly lied about Mrs. McNair in order to make Raymond look like the persecuted one. Leona sued, WCG spend hundreds of thousands of dollars defending Meredith. They lost and had to pay Leona a substantial amount of money. It was not long after this that Meredith then jumped ship to Global Church of God. He stayed in the WCG long enough of for the church to defend him and pay for the lawsuit. For a man who claims to never have committed a major since since baptism he certainly has proven to be one of the most unethical ministers the church has ever produced.

I find it amusing that the living Church of God was founded on a lie, lack of transparency, prideful ambition, ego and secret Meredith shenanigans and now it going to be destroyed by the very same Rod Meredith behavior!

I find it rather interesting that this comes out not long after it came out that Meredith is stepping down and also is having meetings with other churches.

This site plays directly into the hands of Satan as he persecutes God's true church. The attacks on Mr. Meredith are purely the work of the devil and will be proven to be so. Justice will prevail and Mr. Meredith and the Church will be protected by God the Father. If I were the owner of this blog ands some of its commenters I would be sorely afraid and be on my knees begging forgiveness for attacking God's people.

Anonymous said...

I've been in the church for over 30 years and I've never seen a marking like the Scarborough's. Meredith was out for blood. Before church, during church and after church. We were lead to believe it was over a Bob Thiel post but found out soon after they weren't Theil's source.

It seems like Dr. Meredith just isn't man enough to admit he was wrong and we are all just supposed to swallow it whole because to question the ministry is to risk getting kicked out ourselves.

He is willing to risk everything he's built on this obvious vendetta and we brethren are the ones left to suffer.

Next month when I write my tithe check I will be wondering if my money is paying Dr. Meredith's lawyers.

Anonymous said...

Yes anon 2:20! We all hope Justice will prevail. In fact were counting on it! Meredith has a used his power and bullied his members for far too long. It's time for him to pay the price for his carnal, hateful behavior. We are all stoked for the truth about RCM to be revealed in all its glory.

Why should your master (RCM) get away with breaking the law? He shouldn't and he won't.

Black Ops Mikey said...

And yet... and yet... Deuteronomy 18 says not to be afraid of false prophets, of the which Roderick Meredith has proved to be.

If there is a Satan, he is well represented by Roderick Meredith and the other ACoG leaders.

Anonymous said...

To anon 220

It is Meredith who has "attacked God's people". This blog is just reporting the news. How is that "evil"? Should the truth remain suppressed unless if favors your master (RCM)?

Why would God "protect" a corrupt liar who intentionally set out to destroy these two people on false accusations and who refused to follow Matthew 18 because he felt he was above the law of God?

Was Satan attacking Meredith by forcing him to slander Dorothy McNair or does Meredith just have a problem using his pulpit to bully members with lies?

Should Meredith be able to break the law (the law of the land AND the law of God) without consequences just because he's Meredith?

If LCG looses this lawsuit, will it be Satan's fault? A corrupt court system? How will you rationalize it to yourself 220?

itstimecog said...

Wow, Anon 2:20, if you think we are attacking Meredith and his laity, just wait and see what Christ does to all of you in short order.

It is never a pleasant happening when someone is forced to seek redress through the judiciary. It usually means that someone has been taken advantage of, and the injured party either wants restitution, or wants to be sure that the other party ceases and desists from unethical behavior.

If this were GTA's particular pathology we were discussing, I doubt that anyone would be defending him.

Unfortunately, some never learn finesse, never learn the value of understatement. A person in authority, if he carries himself well, doesn't need to bark and growl. Most truly tough guys are polite and courteous, because there is nothing that they need to prove. Too bad Rod was never in the Army. He might be a far different person today. What a shame this is.

Attention Living Church of Rod Members - if you believe you have a duty to tithe, make sure your tithes go toward preaching the Gospel or serving those in need. Put your tithes in an escrow account so that they cannot be used for this fight this lawsuit or pay out for this illegal behavior. If you believe in tithing, then you believe the tithe belongs to God - not to pay for the acts of a criminal.

HOW RCM BEATS THIS:

1. He has LCR pay for his legal needs and the judgements against him - just like he did with WCG when Leona McNair sought justice over his criminal acts.
2. He can raise funds from loyal LCR members on the concept that Satan is attacking him and the church - just like he has done for the past 60 years.
3. Once the final bill is paid, he can start a new church - just like he did immediately after WCG paid the last of the settlement.
4. He can steal the membership contact info from LCG to aid in hooking up with loyal tithe slaves - just like he did when he screwed Global.
5. He can then be free to be the supreme leader of his new Church of Rod and continue to claim he has never committed a major sin since the date he was baptized.

Spanky had to know this lawsuit would eventually become public knowledge.

His most recent bit of shameless insistence that members send him more money was to fleece them for as much as he could get before this hit the news.

He'll surely attempt to squeeze more out of the poor minions citing persecution from Satan.

Spanky will try to keep the gravy train flowing his way for as long as the people approve of their tithes and assets being spent on his incompetence, inability to learn from past crimes, and his addiction to committing crimes.

For the commenter above who suggested that this lawsuit might finally push the members to take Rod Meredith out of power so that LCG doesn't have to pay the settlement... Meredith IS LCG. No matter who the talking head is, the bank account still and forever will say Meredith. Weston is an employee. He's coming to Charlotte to work. The money will still flow to Rod and Jim. The money doesn't go to "God's Church" it goes to Rod and Jim. Now and forever. When RCM created LCG he was sure to have his lawyers make it so that he could never be removed or replaced and he would always be the account holder.

I know these people. I don't want to reveal my identity because I am still a member of LCG (I'm sure you will all want to verbally destroy me for that). I will say that I have illegally communicated with the Scarborough's on a couple of occasions. I haven't seen them because I don't live in Charlotte but I wanted to let them know that I am praying about the situation and praying that God will reveal all things in His time and according to His will.

The Scarborough's told me that they have written dozens of letters to LCG and tried to call Mr. Meredith but that Mr. Meredith has never replied in writing or by calling. They say Mr. Meredith has never spoken to them before or after he had them disfellowshipped and marked. They also told me they had a lawyer write LCG a letter stating that they didn't want to take this to worldly courts but wanted to work it out as Christians but again, Meredith refused. I do not understand his hard heartedness. He had the power to stop all of this from happening but his ego and stubbornness are going to ruin everything.

I knew this was in progress but I never told a soul. Honestly, I was shocked it stayed under wraps for as long as it did.

It looks really awful that LCG members and ministers are learning of this lawsuit on blogs like this instead of from their leader. It has spread like wild fire throughout the church today.

Byker Bob said...

Whenever something bad is happening in these churches, our concerns go out towards our former brothers and sisters. Most of us here temporarily suspend any negatives that might come up with members, and we concentrate our efforts on the people who are actually responsible for causing the problem. When some leader lives the life of a king off the tithes, and doesn't even bother paying his taxes, we're on the ground acting as soundingboards for troubled people who need to discuss it. When another leader uses ridiculous prophecy and claims to be a Biblical figure in order to leverage people from their 401K's, or home equity, we are right here. When the policies of leaders cause suicide, we're here to console. If there is a mass murder in a local congregation, we're here to comfort people. When David Koresh was on the rampage, most of us were scared for friends and family the minute news reports mentioned the words "sabbath" and "apocalypse". We displayed a unified front of compassion this past summer when the young Australian lady suffered a fatal water skiing accident.

When these sad and horrible events happen, we know that they cause extreme mental turmoil. It's a conundrum that sometimes makes people start from scratch, reevaluating everything they believe they know. Some will go back to business as usual, but for the majority, this current example of cruel leadership, covered up by a wall of silence and disingenuous spin, is a major event, and potentially a game changer. How could it be other? Where is Nathan the prophet, who, as he did in the times of King David, could go to Mr. Meredith, and Mr. McNair, and smite their consciences for hurting some of the innocents? That part of the checks and balances which were part of the law of Moses has no modern counterpart in the ACOGs. It is why conditions have degenerated so severely. If you are going to base most of church teachings on the Old Testament, you cannot have a gigantic void such as that. The ministers need to be responsible and accountable to someone. They will tell you that they are reponsible directly to Jesus Christ, but there is incredible anthropomorphism in their concept of Jesus, so much so, that you might say they have actually made themselves accountable to themselves. The very concepts of the doctrines which they have inherited, and the ways in which they have administered them are directly responsible for all of the corruption you see around you. Those concepts spawn not only the corruption, but also a famine of blessings, leading to contraction rather than growth. The bad strands or threads which have been interwoven are so integral to the garment that they are not able to be separated from the body of the fabric. All of the splintering with roughly similar and very consistent results should be proof positive that this is true. And, when that happens the cloth must be discarded, and a new fabric woven.

Suing the Mighty Grand High Poobahs of the "church"?
Good!

On another note I suppose the Scarboroughs no longer consider the Grand High Poobahs of the Living Church whatever it is to be fellow Christians since you aren't supposed to take your brethren to court.

Anonymous said...

9.25PM Not taking brethren to court is not a law of God. It is an application of Gods law by Paul in a particular context. Paul had a eye on the court cases impact on the spreading of Christianity, plus his advice assumed justice could be obtained in the church, which is laughable today.

8.22 PM We see in the bible where "they(the ministers) will tell you that they are responsible directly to Jesus Christ," leads to. After murdering Uriah the Hittite, King David prayed:

Psalm_51:4 Against thee, thee only, have I sinned, and done this evil in thy sigh

So murdering Uriah wasn't really a crime, his sin was only against God. What a self serving piece of crock. So David considered Uriah a pinch of dog crap. This is what happens when leaders are only accountable to God. God in His judgment of David, didn't agree.

I think LCG's actions have proven that they are not "fellow Christians".

Fellow Christians would have followed Matthew 18 so it wouldn't have ever gotten to this point.

In ACOG land, what LCG did to these people would definitely qualify as "causing them to stumble". Maybe Meredith should hand a milestone around his neck.

LCG didn't follow the parable of the lost sheep either which says that a good shepherd leaves the whole flock to go after one of his sheep that's gone astray. If they felt the Scarborough's had "gone astray", didn't they have an obligation to try to help them? In this case, it's more like Meredith took the sheep and pushed them off a cliff.

After reading the letter the Scarborough's wrote (which is posted on another story on this site), it looks like the Scarborough's are following the next step in Matt 18;17 for dealing with their situation, "if they still refuse to listen, tell it to the church [the Scarborough letter]; and if they refuse to listen even to the church, treat them as you would a pagan or a tax collector". It seems they are well within their rights to now treat LCG as the heathens they truly are.

LCG has blatantly disregarded Biblical instruction.

And this is the result...

Martha,

I was not going to comment until I saw it repeated on the Bereans site.
But COG's ism is defenitely not an off shoot of SDA'ism.
The cog groups have a shared history with sda but COG did expressly organize separately since they did not accept the visions of EG White. You can look that up in all early documents of cog and sda of around 1850-1860.

Now continue with the main topic.

I still can't believe RCM didn't tell his ministry that the church was being sued. What was he thinking?

Anonymous said...

nck said, "But COG's ism is defenitely[sic] not an off shoot of SDA'ism."

It is. Just because Herbie didn't accept the visions of Ellen White, doesn't mean the WCG was not an offshoot of the SDA religion.

Many other religions are offshoots, yet don't rely on the visions of the religion's founder.

And heck, isn't SDA just an offshoot of something else, anyway?

Anonymous said...

LCG dug a ditch for the Scarborough's and now they have fallen into it themselves...

Martha said...

NCK, I didn't write that tagline, but anyway, the Churches of God were not a direct splinter of the SDAs but more of a meandering one.

All were descended from the Adventist Millerites, but the Millerite movement largely broke apart after the Great Disappointment of 1844. Ellen G. White hung in there and greatly promoted and grew Adventism. The COG-7th Day split from the Adventists (later the SDAs) because they rejected Ellen G. White's visions.

The COG-7th splinter happened around 1858 I believe, and the SDAs did not formally adopt the name SDAs until 1860 or thereabout. Herbert Armstrong was disfellowshipped from COG-7th and then started his own group.

So I guess, technically speaking in the Armstrongism community, it's something like relating COGWA to David Hulme's COG-AIC. Both were descended from the WCG, COG-AIC split from UCG, then COGWA split from COG later.

At some point we lose track of all the acronyms. I'm still holding out for Intergalactic or Interstellar COG.

Byker Bob said...

These offshoots were originally spawned by the Seventh Day Baptists, although William Miller was not a sabbatarian at the time of the Great Disappointment. The SDA started to really take off when Mrs. E. G. White began to be looked to as a prophetess, and the Jehovah's Witnesses were based on Russell's take on the SDA movement. The whole thing is a distinctly American amalgamation. HWA was a splinter of a splinter, and his eisegetics and proof-texting are somewhat convincing, so long as you keep your investigation and understanding superficial. I say superficial because HWA went deeper than the typical Catholics and Protestants of his day, but not as deep as highly educated university-quality theologians. He took the package which was based on a 6 month study at his local library, and marketed it to people for whose intellect he had no respect, even frequently calling them his "dumb sheep".

Yes it can. The first will establish the second. Character of the defendant was established decades ago.

"At some point we lose track of all the acronyms."

Agreed Martha.

But both the 1844-1860 period and the 1930 period are extremely important times in context of the development of American religious thought. So it needs to be set right. Even the word "fundamentalism" in which the general public brands Islam today was meant for 1930's Christianity.

The original cog people separated from sda in an effort to "continue" cog'ism branding sda as an aberation.

Just helping you with some free publicity and maybe correcting an immediate put off to your site since many wcg left adventism for reasons. Even the Bricket Wood campus was just across the road of the sda headquarters in England.

As a post scriptum I like to add that although BB's main concern seems for todays victims I find the quality of his historical analysis improving per day. As proven on this and the "book of revelation" comment. Somehow I miss Corey too commenting on the "book of revelation".

Amazing that Rod Meredith did this to these people without ever meeting with them (according to the letter). Still more amazing that he refused to meet with them to avoid/mitigate this situation. But what's most amazing is that he's paying lawyers with tithe money.

LCG members should withhold their tithes until this is over.

Anonymous said...

Meredith is fuming that this has been outed and he's practically psychotic that the Scarborough's started a gofundme account!

Anonymous said...

By keeping this a secret, Meredith looks guilty. If he had any legitimate reason for doing what he did, he would have blasted it churchwide in a fit of righteousness indignation.

Anonymous said...

I'll always remember Corky fondly.

And also, this one of Byker Bob's remarks to Corky: "I'd have to categorize what Corky is proposing as being some sort of unique or private interpretation, because I have never met anyone else who has read the New Testament that has come away with that idea. And, I am a person who has read widely over the course of a lifetime. It isn't even suggested in any of the often liberal footnotes of modern study Bibles. When the only source for some sort of theological contention is Corky, whom we all know to have an atheist agenda, then I can't take it seriously."

Frankly, that comment amazed me because what Corky had said was well thought out and within the realm of that which even many Christians would agree with.

Reminds me a bit of when Byker Bob suggested we not legislate Muslim people to have to leave the United States, but rather that we should bully them into leaving the country.

This one's for Corky.

You know this started about Feast time 2 years ago. And it was about that time that Meredith really started asking for money, saying the church really need more money. So it was not the church that needed more money it was Meredith.... he wanted to save up money to fight the court battle. That was all they talked about more money... and they have been asking for money all along. This really stinks... I will have to go back to the old letters he sent out and read them again with a new eye to what was really happening.

Many of us are still confused and wondering...

As I've stated before and can see it happening right before our eyes, the larger COGs are dying a slow death, just like ancient Israel's males 20 years old and older died in the wilderness because of unbelief. Some reasons? Lack of Godly and brotherly love for the brethren and the disgusting, nauseating class system, the doctrine of the Nicolaitans, which Jesus said He hates! Why can't these people see what they are doing? God Almighty is cleansing His people and His church to be the bride of Christ.

However, the pattern among small congregations has been changing in the past several years as we see more of them joining forces for holy days and Feast of Tabernacles. Let's continue to hope and pray that more brethren will see the light and begin to participate in joint services and fellowship. We are all fellow brethren. No one is better or higher than anyone else (Rev. 22:8-9). Our allegiance must be to our Father and elder Brother alone, and not to any man or organization!

Anon 5:24, you are missing the point. It's not that they are unhappy with the church - it is that the church has been using people, taking them for all they're worth emotionally, physically, and financially, and spitting them out once they're all used up. The WWCG, and all its offshoots, are *still* cults. They are all rancid, nasty, pervasive mind-control sects which seek nothing more than to increase their revenue. "Mark and disfellowship" are two things which only cults use - never will a real loving group of people tell someone to leave their friends, their family, and never speak with them again. Real loving and supportive groups of people do not tear families apart, or tell children of gay parents that unless they denounce their families they can't be part of a church. Never, in the history of ever, has love been shown by turning ones back on their friends and family. You need to do some serious thinking on why you are attending ANY kind of church in the first place - this whole situation isn't about a church, it's about a cult, the leaders of which have been growing fat on your saved dollars for decades. Just think about it, please. We will be here for you when your eyes finally open to the truth.
