The Council of Elders meetings concluded this week, as Mr. Weston noted in his introductory comments. Our apologies that last week’s listing of the Council of Elders did not include Council members Mr. Dan Hall and Mr. Adam West. Also, two new members, Mr. Stephen Elliott and Mr. Paul Shumway, will fill two rotating seats on the Council. We are running the full list of Council members for your information. 20 men on their council? Do they even have a table that big?
10 of the 20 are based in North Carolina.
By "rotating seats" Weston must be talking about an amusement park ride, because I don't see anyone rotating OFF the council.
What purpose is Weston's Council of Elders supposed to serve?
Is it supposed to give Weston a variety of fresh perspectives from the voices of a wide-ranging group of spiritually wise individuals?
Or is it just another corporate board consisting of the same old department heads who are on the board because of their job, not because of their wisdom.
If I'm counting correctly, all the LCG regional heads are on that list. And all but 2 on the list are either regional heads, former regional heads, or HQ bigwigs. Which means that the advice Weston receives from his council will be the same advice he receives from his day-to-day interactions with the people on his CAD/HQ organizational chart. So, does Weston really make use of his council, or is council membership merely a job perk for ambitious underlings? Rod Meredith would often listen to his council members, then would go home and make decisions based on what he heard from his family and a few trusted friends and influential members, no matter what the council had advised. Can any insiders here speak up and tell us whether Weston is like that, too?
When they aren't in a COE meeting, around half of those 20 men either report directly to Doug Winnail as their workplace boss, or to one of the other regional directors in that room who report to Winnail. If those men are doing their jobs well, and are sharing their ideas and experiences with the boss, what purpose is served by having so many bodies in the room? If they share perspectives Weston hasn't heard, it makes Winnail look bad. But if they share perspectives Winnail hasn't heard, it smacks of politics or bad management and again makes Winnail look bad. At least three of the men on that list have openly expressed to close friends that they would like to have Winnail's job and that they think they could do it better than Winnail. This must make COE meetings very stressful for Winnail. Maybe that stress is part of the reason why Winnail can't write a fresh paragraph of encouragement for LCG brethren every week, and has to tweak old publications instead of letting fresh inspiration burst forth.
Its to bad that Robin Webber is not with LCG. They already have Mr. Adam West , (aka Batman on the TV series).
It would be cool if the council had BATMAN AND ROBIN on it!

In their old age, the council of elders are terrified of losing their jobs. So no new material or perspectives. No rocking the boat in the slightest. So instead of the living church of God, we have the Boring church of God.

When Charles Bryce resigned from the council, nobody knew. It was never announced, nor was there a picture published. (18 months later, Bryce was fired, and Winnail accused him of conspiring with Satan.) About the same time, Don Davis was kicked off the council, despite being Rod's initial and primary supporter at both the start of GCG and LCG. Again, it was never announced, nor was a picture ever published.
Interestingly, these council departures, combined with the deaths of John Ogwyn and Carl McNair, left Rod Meredith without any advisors who would tell him the truth straight-up. Instead, the council, now filled with all yes-men, failed to reign in Rod as he launched his series of hate-filled sermons directed at the leaders of all the other COGs.

Almost, but not quite. The proper form of address would be to "Mr. Jesus, the Christ!"

This site is populated by people who were influenced by Armstrongism, so even our humor must conform to legalism!
It would fit the acog culture only if Mr. Jesus Christ spent a lot of the service talking about Mr. Herbert W. Armstrong.
Are all these "men" on LCG payroll? All yes "men" it seems.
Every single COG that has a council has a group of men who only rubber-stamp the exalted leader's desires. Members are never part of the equation.
